Description from the owner
A wonderful alternative to a hotel!
Four historic, renovated units ranging in size from large studio to 3 bedroom/2 baths. Located in the scenic hilltop village of Spello in the region of Umbria.
Once a residence for a wine and olive oil-producing family for generations, the property has been recently transformed, with the help of a local architect, into 4 separate units having all the convenience of modern amenities while retaining unique historic charm. There is a lush terraced garden available for your use, which has a view of the surrounding countryside. Each unit is beautifully furnished, and is equipped with full modern kitc...hen and bathroom, high-speed internet, etc. Ideally suited for weekly visits or long-term stays (discounts for longer terms)
Centrally located for daytrips throughout Italy -- just a 10 minute drive from Assisi; 30 minutes from Perugia; one hour from Siena; two hour train or car ride from Florence and/or from Rome.
The town of Spello has an authenticity that has not yet been spoiled by tourism. It sits on the Southern slope of the imposing Mount Subasio. With a population of only 6,000 inhabitants, Spello has a rich history which dates back to Roman times. It’s an ideal place for foreigners to experience the charm of a small medieval Italian village and to live like a local, experience local festivals and roam the antique / outdoor markets. It’s equally well-suited as a home base for daytrips or weekend excursions to many of Italy’s most popular tourist destinations (such as Rome, Florence, Siena, Lago Trasimeno to name just a few).
Within walking distance to public transportation (including a train station which connects to Florence, Rome, and beyond), local bakery, grocery stores, cappuccino bars, restaurants, post office, and churches. Tours of Roman ruins, cooking classes, horse back riding and spa visits can easily be arranged through a local travel agent in Spello.Read more

Fantastic find in Spello
Well equipped, gorgeous, comfortable stone apartments in the heart of Spello. Panoramic views and a private garden where you can enjoy a glass of wine in the afternoon as you watch the sun set over the Umbrian countryside. Gina was wonderful, adding enormously to the enjoyment of our trip with her tips on restaurants, places to see in Umbria and local festivals and events. To say it is like a 'home away from home' sounds a bit cliched .. but it is truly what Casa Spello delivers. There is even a washing machine in each apartment - such a bonus when you are traveling!! We stayed for 8 nights and would return in a heartbeat! Read more

Thank you so much for coming to Casa Spello twice within 2 weeks.
We are starting to have repeat guests who have come 5 and 6 times! It was my pleasure to host you. We continue to try our best to make a home in Italy for our guests. Most of our guests have said that the list of recommendations we give them are better than any guide books. My husband Dan and I travel all over the world and we always try to think of useful things to add to Casa Spello.
Please come again, Casa Spello is waiting for you.

The Italian dream vacation, old world charm, comfort and care.
My BFF and her 7 year old joined me for this relaxing and delicious stay at Casa Spello. We were thoroughly briefed by owner Gina beforehand . She covered transportation local sightseeing and of course food! Spello is a walking town so we walked all over, a necessity after all of the yummy gelato, cappuccinos and truly amazing food. sorry I don't remember the name but fabulous place just up from the church , it has red awnings and outside tables.
I loved going to sleep in my comfy bed and waking up to make breakfast , important for the 7 year old picky eater in our party. The beautiful old hand hewn pink stones in the house and stunning views were magical. Grazie mille, Casa Spello
We stayed three months and loved it and plan on returning.
Wonderful apartment furnished to a high degree. Exactly as advertised, first class all the way Great

Most memorable vacation week ever!
All the excellent reports we read about Casa Spello were correct. From the initial correspondence and meeting our key-holder and owners, to enjoying the wonderful accommodation we had an incredible vacation. We rented two units, one for Nana & Poppa and the other for our son, wife and 3 grandkids. Spello is an excellent town to walk and sight-see and can be used as a base to visit several close-by mountain top towns. You can even hike to asissi and Collepino! Love to go back.
My husband and I stayed at Casa Spello this September and loved it. We were so happy in Spello (truffles and wine) that we added two days on to our visit, moving from the garden apartment to the Cleopatra. Nadia and Gina made the move effortless. Very comfortable, attractive apartments, wonderful views from the garden and we enjoyed the fresh figs we picked to have with our morning cappuccinos. We'd stay here again anytime. Read more

We always try to make Casa Spello a special place. Glad you enjoyed our figs. The fig tree was planted by one of our guests. In the summer our garden offers plums, and apricots.
A charming stay at Casa Spello
My husband and I stayed in July 2013 at Casa Spello and we loved it. Our townhouse was charming and quaint. It had everything we needed. Casa Spello is nestled in the mountain and has beautiful views of Umbria. It also has the most lovely garden with plum trees and capers and rosemary bushes. It was a joy to sit in the garden and see the beautiful view of vinyards. Our stay at Casa Spello was very comfortable and enjoyable. We met the owner and she is lovely and always very helpful. We can wait to come back. G & A from NYC

This property was one of the highlights of our eight week trip in Italy. It has all the rustic old world charm you could want yet has all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay. Our dealings with the owner were easy and prompt. Gina was a delightful host and really generous with her knowledge of Spello and Umbria. She gave us some great tips on where to eat and visit. The location was ideal for getting around Umbria, and Spello itself could not have been a prettier place. The kitchen was the most well stocked we have ever come across. We will definately be back to stay again.
Lovely town and a lovely place
Our family really enjoyed our week in Spello. We had the ground floor apartment and were able to enjoy the garden and the view! The apartment and views were awesome! Because Spello is an ancient town, the roads are narrow and you have to park 2 minutes away from Casa Spello (we had and quite enjoyed the little cobblestone streets on the way). The apartment was comfortable and cool (even in record temperatures, we barely used the air conditioning). Our host, Gina, provided lots of touring and dining information and made us feel at home. We had everything we needed including a few plums off her tree! Read more

Thank you for visiting us in Casa Spello. We always try to do our best to make our guests feel at home by having well appointed kitchens and units. Your children were lovely and I enjoyed giving them a "Gelato Tour". As you had a chance to discover, Spello now offers some of the best Gelati and gourmet restaurants in Umbria. It has truly become a "Gourmet Ghetto". Please come again.

Magnificent Umbrian apartment
Umbria is our favorite place in Italy and now we have a favorite place to stay. Had never spent much time in Spello and it really is a magical village. Thank you so much Lynn, at Casa Spello we do our best to make our guests feel at home. You are right, Spello is " magical" and just like some of our guests say :"It has a Spell on you!". We furnished all of our four units just the way we would like them to be equipped for ourselves. Often in our travels we find ill equipped kitchens and only a couple of dishes. We appointed our kitchen to make it easy for our guests to cook and share meals. Please come again.

An amazing hilltop village with superb accommodation to enhance
You couldn't do better than this apartment to spend time in
Spello. Close to the village, with outstanding views. Spectacular outdoor area for enjoying a wine/meal while absorbing the surroundings. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here next visit.

Relaxing and comfortable an ideal base to tour Umbria and centra
The booking service was eaily managed and the reception and support arrangements onsite from "Nadia" were excellent. The apartment we booked had nearly everything you needed and it was a delight to be able to prepare your own meals with local produce. Spello has plenty of opportunities to purchase very good quality produce. The ability to also wash and dry clothes during the middle of a long holiday is also very convenient.
The location was marvellous with wonderful views over the local valley, the medieval town was a delight to explore with a terrific range of very good quality resturants. Touring to other locations such as Perugia, Assisi and Foligno, to mention just some, was easy either by hire car or train.
The only very minor issue is the lack of a DVD player, English speaking TV channels are a bit light on, fortunately I had a laptop and we managed to watch some downloaded material through their very good Wifi service.
We really enjoyed our visit to Casa Spello. The treatment we received before, during and after our stay was impeccable. During our stay, we hired Nadia to prepare an Italian dinner for us in the Casa. It was a wonderful dinner of local meat, vegetables and pasta. Nadia even offered to babysit our 2 year old daughter during our visit. She was available to answer our needs at anytime; however, we did not require any assistance since we found Casa Spello to be very comfortable and well suited for our entire stay.
The location of Casa Spello was perfect for day trips all around the Umbria region. We were able to visit assisi, Perugia, Bevagna, Montefalco and Spoleto all within an hour's drive. The town of Spello has plenty of places to eat as well as a couple excellent enotecas for wine and olive oil tasting.

Casa Spello - Third Time Visit
Last summer our family of three made our third visit to marvellous Casa Spello. Owners Gina and Dan were there to welcome us and made great restaurant recommendations and other terrific suggestions which added to our holiday experience. This was our third trip to Casa Spello (in past summers we have stayed in augustus). Last summer we stayed in Marc anthony. Both apartments are delightfully decorated with tasteful furnishings and local artifacts. Both are clean and extremely comfortable. The property has been lovingly and tastefully restored, and makes for a perfect home away from home in Spello. The fact we have returned to Casa Spello for the third year running tells of our delight the accommodation and the town of Spello itself. Both apartments allow for self-catering (kitchens are well equipt) and Gina's efforts to welcome us with fresh flowers on the table and a bottle of wine in the fridge were much appreciated. Thanks for another wonderful holiday at Casa Spello.

Such a stunning apartment and a wonderful village
We stayed in Casa Spello (Augustus) for a week in October and it was perfect. This apartment is a lovely home with stunning views across the Umbrian countryside.
We were met by our lovely host and had everything explained to us including great recommendations on places to eat and sites to see. We were able to park the car just outside the old town and took so many drives to beautiful villages and countryside.
We certainly want to return to Casa Spello and highly recommend the apartment.
Please...when can I go back? Simply Spello!!...A glorious week
What an absolutely wonderful week we had! Stayed in the augustus Unit #1 and couldn't have asked for a more charming apartment. Loved the stone walls. We've rented quite a few apartments and this was by far the nicest and most well equipped, from the kitchen to tourist info...so very much appreciated the detailed directions for the washing machine! Apartment exceeded the description!
Emails and questions all answered promptly by Gina and Jennifer. Nadia in Italy was there to greet us and was very welcoming and kind. Thought parking was going to be an issue but we found free parking available everyday...facing the bank in the Piazza, the road to the right. We took this road in and out of Spello. And Spello...what a charming, wonderful town. A great base to explore Umbria.
Had a wonderful "tasting lunch" , including wine and olive oil, at the Romanelli Farm in Montefalco. Enjoyed a delicious lunch at Ristorante Maggiolini in Trevi. Loved our excursion to Norcia and the Piano Grande which included lunch at Taverna Castelluccio and back to Spello via Visso. And of course we started our day in the typical Italian fashion with a cappuccino and cornetto at Tullia's.
A very memorable week in Umbria as part of our fourth trip to Italy. We love this country, the people, the food...and will certainly return. We're home two weeks now and I'm having serious withdrawal. I would like to thank Gina for sharing her wonderful home with us and hope that all future guests respect her properties so she continues to share them with us. It was truly a blessing to be able to stay here. Thank you Gina!
stunning, wonderful apartment and Umbrian town
Our family stayed at Casa Spello for 5 days in June. The apartment was really wonderful. we traveled with our 12 and 9 year children and they loved the apartment and the ability to run around this incredible town of Spello. We certainly will be back. The location is perfect for those who wish to live in Umbria, visit assisi, and truly relax in a special home.

Nice town poor choice for the stay
We travel Italy very often as we love our Italian Familia and the culture dearly. We wanted to stay in a hill top town close to assisi, so we decided on Spello. We love to do our own cooking when we rent flats in Italy with all their fine Ingridients but our kitchen was poor at best even for a Italian kitchen. The flat was clean and had a nice view of the country side out of the one window we had. We were very fortunate that we did not get rain while there, because it would be very Trecherous with the steep cobble stone streets. The lady that was Handeling the flat for the owner was very nice, but her English was minimal. We don't Regreat our time in Spello, which is a very beautiful hill top town with very friendly people but we would not Recomend this flat as a good choice. Mark and carol Read more

We were surprised (and a bit saddened) to learn that Mark and Carol intended to focus on cooking during their trip to Spello; had we known in advance, we most certainly would have directed them away from the more economic studio apartment they chose, to one of our larger units with a fully-equipped, modern kitchen...a much more suitable apartment for those desiring regular home-cooked meals. These larger units also have outstanding views. (See all other 72 wonderful reviews). As to the other complaints, of cobblestones , this speaks to the nature of medieval hilltop villages in Italy, all of which are built using local stone...Spello is known for its charming alleyway full of flowers, cobblestones streets, magnificent Roman arches and aqueduct. We are conveniently located in the heart of the historic center with outstanding views of the countryside, we are surprised to read that Marc and Carol didn't like the location, which all of our guests love. What some find charming and authentic, others perhaps do not.

A perfect family week in Umbria at the gorgeous Casa Spello
We (a young family with an 11 month old baby) recently had the pleasure of staying at Casa Spello. What a lovely place! Not only was the view from the garden of the Umbrian Valley incredible and the location superb in charming and ancient Spello, but the downstairs Marc anthony unit with its stone walls kept us sheltered from the summer heat. Natalie (the Casa Spello caretaker) went out of her way to make sure we had a pleasant stay and to bring a crib, bathtub and extra blankets for the baby. With a slight modification (easy move of leg rest) the place was totally baby proof. We used Casa Spello as our base for exploring the region and soaking in the views and would highly recommend a visit to anyone in any age group!
Like Home away from Home
I was luck enough to have found and stayed at Casa Spello while in Spello. What a wonderful property, the minute I walked in I said this is better than the photos. Spello is a wonderful town to use as your base while in Italy. It is so convienent to hop on the train for a trip to Florence, Venice, Siena, Rome and Lucca was one of my favorites. As well as assisi is only a 7 minute train ride away. Spello has wonderful restaurants also. While I travelled alot while in Italy it always felt so good to return to Spello and especially to Casa Spello.
Casa Spello - A Slice of Italian Life
Our stay at Casa Spello was our second one. We loved it so much the first time, we talked my sister and her family to join us in staying at Casa Spello. They stayed at Tiberius apartment, which was spacious and well equipped for the four of them. My husband and I stayed at Mark anthony apartment, that was so large we hosted dinners for 8-10 regularly there. The apartments are beautifully furnished with keeping modern conveniences along with the ancient architecture. We were lucky to be there with the owners, who were so gracious and helpful. We enjoyed breakfasts and evening drinks in the garden with panoramic views and romantic sunsets. The town of Spello is the perfect size town for living La Dolce Vita and feeling like an Italian after the week. Not too big, not too small, and you can walk to everything. Stroll to the bakery for fresh baked breads and pasties. Try to decide on the best gelato in town. My niece was so inspired that she started her own Gelato Blog that you can follow at gelatobuddy.wordpress.com. I highly recommend Casa Spello for your own Slice of Italy.
This was a gourmet paradise! Fresh produce and good eats everywhere. Literally just-out-of-the-oven fresh artisan bread, great wine, and all in the heart of truffle and prosciutto country! Did not have one bad meal, plus the gelato was great as well! And nothing tops a great meal more than a great meal on a beautiful hill, which Casa Spello has. Thanks Dan and Gina for showing us the restaurant in Preci, Il Castore! 7 courses of Heaven. Well stocked kitchen in Casa Spello and nearby markets made everything easier, and meals at home meant great time to talk, eat, and enjoy the view, and were gourmet treats. Delicious.
Spello is a place where I want to return and bring everyone I lo
I'm sorry this review has been so long in coming. . . maybe it's because my husband and I spend most of our time telling anyone who will stop and listen about how wonderful our stay was at Casa Spello. From the moment we arrived in the square in Spello, I was transfixed. Even though we had been traveling for more than 12 hours, all the fatigue slipped away as we followed Nadia to our apartment. It was a thrill to walk the narrow, winding, climbing streets, as all the time I kept thinking: "Oh my goodness! This has been here forever!" I could not take it all in! And then to be shown into our extremely spacious, immaculate and charming apartment, with a fabulous rissoto (cooked for us by Nadia) was just wonderful. It seemed that at every turn, there was something more beautiful to take in, whether the view we had of the valley from our bedroom window or discovering the garden where we watched every sunset during our stay. ( Note: you should know I clipped some rosemary from the gardens for dinner one night. Fabulous.) Meeting Cindy was a plus. She is full of life and good cheer and a wonderful traveling companion,(we went to Spoleto together.) I loved shopping in Spello itself and if I had stayed longer, would probably have known the shopkeepers' names. Daily shopping brought me back to my childhood growing up in the '50's, when I would shop for the day's meals at the local butcher or grocer's with my Mother or Father. Priceless. Spello is a place where I want to return and bring everyone I love with me. I am forever thankful to my son and daughter-in-law for sharing their hard-earned vacation with us. Thank you for creating such a warm, inviting and very special place.
A vacation we will never forget
I want to express the joy that we experienced at Spello and in the mountain towns of Umbria. The apartment itself was beyond my wildest dream. My immediate reaction as Nadia led us to the apartment was one of arriving in an Italian town in the Middle ages. Rather than feeling out of place, I felt quite at home and comfortable. Surrounded by stone everywhere, churches, houses, roads, pathways, there was not a sense of harshness, coldness or rigidity, but rather a sense of warmth, charm, and friendliness.
The interior of the apartment was unlike any place I have ever stayed in terms of its uniqueness and spaciousness, and I have never been afforded such a view from any bedroom in which I have slept. The valley below and the distant mountains were a vista that greeted me each morning and consoled me each evening at sunset. Watching the Umbrian sunset from the patio surrounded by family and friends was a daily gift, one of many such gifts that I feel that we were blessed with on this incredible vacation.
Nadia was the consummate hostess and caring individual. She wanted to make sure that everything went well for us, and it did. She was thorough in everything that she did, and she was helpful with any and all advice that she shared with us. He smile would make anyone relax and feel comfortable and know that they were welcome in her town.
We spent each day going to two different mountain towns in Umbria and one day in Tuscany. The only unusual thing that happened was that I was spending St. Patrick's Day in Italy. I am sure that St. Patrick didn't mind. I also considered myself very fortunate that by staying in Spello, we were only fifteen minutes away from assisi. I have wanted all my life to visit assisi and pray at the grave of St. Francis. That dream has been fulfilled.
Thank you Gina for the gift of Spello, the gift of Italy, and a vacation that we will never forget.
Great walks, new friends, friendly locals, simple life, a holiday
Casa Spello is magical.
My wife my son and I spent a wonderful week at Casa Spello in January 2012. We have never had such spacious, comfortable accommodation in a rental property. The location is perfect, with easy access to the town centre where first quality local produce is available. There are many excellent, reasonably priced restaurants nearby. We were pleased to meet Gina who gave us excellent advice regarding restaurants and walking paths. One week was all to short! We lok forward to returning for a longer period soon.

I loved the apartment. It was old and new and beautiful. It was in Spello, which has wonderful restaurants and can make day trips from there to lots of towns in Umbria. I loved the place. Vvv

We were 4 women traveling together to celebrate a 70th birthday. I picked Casa Spello because of the wonderful reviews and was not disappointed. Gina was a delight to work with and everything was as promised. Spello is a magical town and is close to everything. We rented a car from the Rome airport and with Gina's directions, had no problem getting to Spello. Nadia was charming and so helpful. The restaurants in Spello are excellent. We managed to visit 8 hilltop towns and each night looked forward to returning to Casa Spello. Thank you Gina, we loved Casa Spello and the beautiful, friendly, warm town of Spello. Thank you also for the wonderful bottle of wine and bread awaiting us. We so enjoyed sitting outside in the garden, meeting other guests and sharing wine, cheese and other goodies. We hope to return soon.

Beautiful property in a magic location
We have thoroughly enjoyed the last week here in Spello. We have found
the apartment comfortable and very well equipped. Being able to eat
outdoors , and enjoy the views and sunsets has been an added bonus-
the garden setting is lovely.
Well situated we have made trips to assisi, Viterbo, Orvieto, Bevagna
and Spello itself has a lot to offer in the churches, markets and
cafes' restaurants and bars. Nadia has popped in several times to
check that all is well, she is lovely and so helpful.

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Spello. Casa Spello is such a beautiful house with so much character. It was a great base for our travels. We visited Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Spoleto, Montefalco, Bevagna, Deruta and even caught the train to Florence. Our bags are a lot heavier with our goodies of wine, ceramics and leather. Our most memorable meal was a 7 course meal in alla via di mezzo restaurant at Torre Del Colle (near Bevagna), so much food and so delicious. It was always nice to return at the end of a hot day to our cool Casa Spello. We were blessed with perfect weather allowing us to have breakfast each morning on the terrace by the rose bush. We also had a couple of home cooked dinners outside and every evening enjoyed a glass of wine while taking in the special view. After traveling through Europe, Casa Spello provided the final relaxation we needed before our long flight back to australia. Also a special thanks to the lovely Nadia for her help and kindness.

Unit 4 Cleopatra - Built into a wine cellar but looks like a hermit's cave. Even though it's the smallest of the 4 apartments (at Casa
Spello) it suited us perfectly. We booked our stay at Casa Spello for three weeks, wanting time for relaxation and to make day trips to surrounding towns and cities slightly further away. The apartment always felt like home as we returned each day, glad to be able to throw together a simple meal, or try a restaurant close by. Our favorite restaurants were: Porta Venere, and Enoteca. Both have excellent staff and food , although wines there were very expensive.
Several times we shopped at the big supermarket in the lower town and found it had very reasonably priced meat and produce. The garden down below the window is ideal for drinks and nibbles on a warm afternoon, made even better when joined by guests from the other units.
Day trips we enjoyed most Gubbio, Cortona, Trevi, walk along the Roman aqueduct (acquedotto Romano), walk to Foligno, walk to Villa Fidelia and exploring Spello.Thank you Gina for providing such a cosy and convenient "home” we will recommend it to other aussie travellers who get the Italian bug.!

Lovely apartment in lovely Spello
It's hard to believe our month in Spello has come to a conclusion.
Your home is lovely, Nadia has been a wonderful representative of both
Spello and your home, and the people of this community have made us
feel very welcome. Martha has had a wonderful opportunity to work on
speaking Italian and I have enjoyed this setting for a couple of
writing projects. We feel very fortunate to have found Spello and
Umbria and we know we will return.
Everything we needed was here, and even though March was unusually
cold we were very comfortable in your apartment.
Thanks and all our best wishes,

Everything we expected and more!
This was absolutely awesome as it really was located in a hillside village. the weather was awesome and the view was beautiful. We also had a wonderful lady named Nadia come in and cook a homemade meal for our family and it was beyond amazing and much more food then we could eat and all homemade including the pastas! There is also a small, great winery about 2.5 miles away that makes 5 very good wines and olive oil as well. It is called Sportoletti winery(I think). Spectacular view and close to assissi, Foligno, and Perugia. would love to stay again.

Slice of Heaven
What a pleasant surprise we had as we entered the lovely center of Spello, a charming hill town that has been unspoiled by tourists. It is a town built of stone hundreds of years ago and there are beautiful churches and public buildings as well as small shops with art, clothing, jewelry, and food and wine. The local people were so warm and kind and willing to help with directions or suggestions whenever we inquired.
We were met by Nadia who is so sweet and caring. She showed us to our place and helped us get settled in and told us to call if we needed anything. This is a converted residence built about 700 years ago. It has been updated with all the modern conveniences and we felt at ease and comfortable while at the same time in awe that we were staying in such a beautiful and historic place. It is built of stone with very thick walls, (6-8 feet??) which keeps the place cool in the summer. There is air conditioning but we seldom had it on even though the outside temperature was 80-90 degrees.
The home is situated on the hillside with beautiful views and a delightful garden. We spent several lunches and a few dinners there under the trellis covered in grape vines, enjoying the views and italian wine as well as the cold fresh water from the natural spring fountain.
The town is perfectly situated in the hills of Umbria and is convenient for excursions to neighboring towns including assisi which is very near and beautiful, (though pretty touristy). We also made it to Florence and Perugia. We rented a car for the week though the train station is convenient as well.
We had morning cappuccinos in one of several charming cafes, one with a large and beautiful garden setting overlooking the surrounding hills. You can walk to ond of several very nice restaurants for evening meals.
This was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations we've had and we will definitely return and stay at Casa Spello. It really is a gem.

A Magical place to stay in a beautiful part of the world
set in the walls of a medieval village this apartment has wonderful views over the Umbrian countryside looking towards assissi.
The stairs to the main bedroom are steep so we did not carry our cases up but there was plenty of room for them in the lounge. the views from the bedroom and bathroom were great. The kitchen had all we needed and there is lots to do in the little town. We bought the Spello guide book and visited many of the places and took the recommended walks. A great place to stay.

Casa Spello...a beautiful home away from home.
I learned about Casa Spello over a year before my trip and dreamed about what it would be like. It exceeded my expectations in every way. I had the pleasure of staying in the Tiberius unit for 5 weeks. The accommodations, the furnishings, the location, the view were all fabulous. The highlight however was being there when the owner, Gina was also there. She is the "hostess extraordinaire". Her valuable tips, her hospitality, and (if you're lucky) her meals in the garden were above and beyond. The location in Spello is perfect. It's within walking distance of restaurants, shops, etc. and centrally located for day trips to so many of the Umbrian hill towns and sights. I definitely will return to Casa Spello!

Unique and Charming accommodations in a Magical Village
We spent 10 glorious nights in Casa Spello; 6 in Mark anthony and 4 in Cleopatra. I fell in love with Casa Spello and the town of Spello instantly. Our apartments were so unique and charming with all of the comforts and amenities you could want. It is difficult to describe the interior of the apartments, because they are unlike anything I have ever seen before. The views from our windows and front door were spectacular, and we enjoyed playing cards and eating our meals on the lovely terrace each day. I cooked dinner and breakfast most days, since we loved spending time in our comfortable and adorable apartment. The town of Spello will be etched in my mind forever, and I hope to someday return. Casa Spello is more than a place to stay; it's a magical adventure!

We stayed in Marc anthony apartment for a week and the place was just what we had been looking for! Nice, clean and "not just a hotel room" type of apartment for a relaxing holiday. Everything in Spello is within a walking distance, including severals nice restaurants as well as historical buildings etc.
All the practicalities were very well taken care of by local contact person, so it was really easy to concentrate on enjoying the nice week in Spello.
We really liked the Casa Spello!
Don't Tell anyone . . .
So I have to say, I have mixed feelings about writing this review. My problem is that I want others to enjoy this wonderful townhouse where we spent an enchanting five days. On the other hand, I don't want to share the secret of Spello, one of many hill towns dotting the region of Umbria. Unlike Rome and Florence with their hordes (both wonderful in their own way), Spello is one of those towns that fall in the crease between the pages of the guide books. Which means, aside from the occasional busloads of (mostly European) tourists who come through and take a few pictures, you feel almost as if you're the only foreigner, living like a local.
And Casa Spello is the perfect place to be that foreigner. The unit we stayed in, Uno (also called augustus), is actually the owners' unit, and was pretty much stocked with everything except the food we wanted to cook. It had one very nice sized bedroom and bathroom at the top of the stairs, with an additional powder room on the main level. And the clean, sophisticated design scheme was a welcome change from the sometimes overwrought attempts at "vintage" that one often sees in European accommodations.
The view from the garden of the medieval bridge in one direction, Assisi in the other, and the valley down below was magical, and if you weren't careful you could easily miss the mealtimes at the plentiful local restaurants. The binder full of restaurant recommendations made choosing one of those restaurants very easy. Gina and Dan, the owners, thoughtfully stocked the binder with other local and regional information that helped direct our day trips to Montefalco, Deruta and Bevagna. Just talking about it makes me want to go back. As I said in the guest book, we're already plotting our return . . . So don't tell anyone how great it is.

We love Casa Spello
We (two couples) spent a terrific week at Casa Spello. The accommodations were very private and extremely comfortable. Dan and Gina were wonderful hosts and made sure that we were comfortable. Their recommendations for restaurants and sight-seeing were spot-on. Would go back in a heartbeat. And we will!

We stayed in "Augustus" at Casa Spello for the month of October 2010. The apartment was a very comfortable and well equipped base from which to explore the many delights of Umbria and Tuscany. The Casa Spello staff and Gina herself were very helpful and provided suggestions that made our stay more enjoyable. Spello is an enchanting village which proved to be a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and its many villages and towns. We would strongly recommend Casa Spello for an extended stay in Umbria.

Our stay at Casa Spello was absolutely wonderful. The accomodations were perfect and Gina and Dan were very gracious and helpful. I would highly recommend this to my friends and family (actually, I already have). I particularly enjoyed the convenience to the restaurants and shops and the terrace offered a perfect ending or beginning to the day.
Perfect vacation home with all the Italian charm
I spent a week in the Tiberius unit at Casa Spello and it was fantastic. It was a wonderful place with all the comforts of home but included all the Italian charm. We had many dinners out but also a few in and the kitchen had everything we needed. The unit overall was a place I called home for a week, from comfortable rooms to clean crisp linens it has it all.
The patio garden with the picturesque views was a great place to really relax with a glass of wine
The location is ideal for walking anywhere in Spello or easy day trips to other nearby charming towns like assisi, Deruta, Bettona, Montefalco and Bevagna. We rented a car and had no trouble finding free parking a short walk from the unit.
Tulliah's cafe was a frequent stop of ours and the staff, coffee, wine and pastries there are outstanding. I was fortunate enough to spend my birthday there and chose my birthday dinner at Locanda del Postiglione and was probably my favorite meal of the trip. The food was the highlight in a casual but elegant setting. Thank you Fabio for a memorable birthday! Casa Spello is a true gem and I can't wait for a return trip!
Spacious, well appointed and great location.
Spacious and well appointed. Great location.

A relaxing, picturesque venue with all the home comforts.
The apartment had all the amenities we needed plus free internet. The views were magnificent. The secluded garden was great to relax in and share a wine with other guests. Gina and her staff always responded quickly to our emails with detailed information to our questions.
Wish We Could Move in to Casa Spello Permanently
My husband and I just returned for a wonderful two week trip to Italy. A week of that trip was spent in Spello staying at the fabulous Casa Spello in the Cleopatra apartment. We truly felt so fortunate to wake up in such a lovely place each morning. Casa Spello is located inside the town walls (almost on top of them to be exact) and has great views of the valley. It gives you easy access to the village as well as the surrounding countryside. The casa has a perfect private garden where we would sit every afternoon drinking vino and eating antipasto from the local market. It's also a great place for kicking back with a good book and has even space for doing yoga (and hanging laundry). The interior of the apartment is also lovely, exposed brick, very old wine-making materials on display, big comfortable bed. I can't say enough good things about the apartment, the location, and the host Gina - all top notch!
Casa Spello: The Perfect Vacation House
Casa Spello, located in the beautiful medieval town of Spello in the rolling hills of Umbria is the perfect house for your stay in Italy. Casa Spello has all the comforts and conveniences of home and is beautifully appointed with ceramics and locals crafts. It has vistas of the countryside and a beautiful garden that is perfect for a morning coffee or afternoon lunch with a glass of wine. Spello has restaurants and shops to go exploring. It is a perfect location to explore Umbria and points beyond.
The home was beautifully and fully furnished with all amenities, and the views from the windows and terrace were breathtaking. Gina was welcoming and attentive to all our needs. The town of Spelo is charming, intimate and quiet, and made a restful place to return to after a day out touring. We had no trouble finding a public space to park our rental car. Our college-aged sons appreciated the wireless connection and electronic devices in the home; we apprecaited the dishwasher and washing machine. We would say that we found everything to be perfect and the stay provided us with many wonderful experiences.
Wonderful stay in a Quaint apartment
We spent 5 nights at Casa Spello and it was terrific. The apartment was cozy and comfortable. I was vacationing with my husband and two 20 year old children and we stayed in the 3 bedroom "Tiberius" apartment. This apartment has beautiful brick walls with a variety of different accent lights and the kitchen overlooked the living room which was really cool. Gina (the owner) was staying there at the same time, she was very helpful with suggestions on restaurants and different activities in the area. My husband and I spent some time on the outdoor terrace and the views are just incredible. It was so peaceful so sit out there and Gina brought us a tray with wine, breadsticks and cheese -- such a wonderful surprise. She made all of us feel very welcome. Spello is a very beautiful little town in Umbria. We are so glad that we decided to stay at Casa Spello and you will be too!
A wonderful experience in a unique and beautiful town.
Nadia the housekeeper and her family made us very welcome in their small town of Spello. A gorgeous ancient stone town built on the hills near Assisi. This place was very welcoming and friendly. We stayed in Casa Spello in their uniquely redesigned cellar. We loved it! I would love to return here one day!
We just can't wait to go back
We, a family of 4 with 2 teens, stayed in Gina's
Augustus home,a home away from home - oh but so
much nicer, the way this historical building with
its lovely views has been so tastefully restored
and decorated. Not only were we very comfortable
and did not want for anything in the house, but we
felt very privileged to stay in Gina's beautiful
home surrounded by all her precious ceramic pieces.
Although there is a large choice of places to eat,
we walked to the shopping mall supermarket just
outside the town walls, stocked up for the 3 days
we were there and cooked at the house. The position
of the house and the position of Spello are both
perfect, from an aesthetic as well as practical
point of view. We did not hire a car (which we
would do next time in order to see the smaller
towns and hermitages in the hills which aren't
serviced by trains)but were able to see Perugia,
the Perugina chocolate factory and Assisi using
trains and buses. We actually walked the 8kms along
St Francis of Assissi's trail through the most
inspiring and tranquil countryside from Spello to
Assisi. Spello is a photographers dream come true
and we spent hours exploring the narrow, curvy
cobbled roads all adorned with flowers and
ornamental plants(in mid winter too). We also had
some lovely runs in the surrounding hills and
farmland. We will be back to do what we ran out of
time to do and won't consider staying anywhere else
but casa Spello.

Fantastic beautiful home in an ideal location.
Casa Spello was fantastic, fabulous, unbelievable, remarkable and incredible. The home was amazing. It was the perfect base to work from to tour Umbria and Tuscany. We were giddy when Nadia was giving us the tour of the property. It was everything your website said it was and more.
We loved the main apartment which was perfect for our family of four. The kids slept in the living room which they loved (probably because it had Wi-Fi and a TV) and we had the bedroom upstairs. The views from the house were incredible and the sunsets indescribable.
We traveled with my parents who were used to staying in hotels and couldn't believe how wonderful the accommodations at Casa Spello were. They had their own apt. in the home which worked perfectly.
We took advantage of the kitchens in both apartments. Our kids went to the market one day and came back and cooked us all dinner that evening. My mother then made use of the open market and local butcher to try her hand at Italian cooking. We felt at home in Casa Spello and that's probably the greatest compliment we could extend.
Italy with some American comforts
We stayed at Casa Spello with our two adult children. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations. The views are spectacular! It's a very comfortable and charming home with lots of books and maps of the Umbria region. We ate at many of the local restaurants but also had the ability to cook "at home" as the kitchen is quite accommodating. We enjoyed walking to the "bar" for our morning cup of cappuccino and pastry. We walked all over town and this was in the winter. I would like to come back when the pots are filled with flowers, the vines are growing over the doorway and the garden at Casa Spello is in bloom! Thank you.
Casa Spello was delightful!
My family and I loved Spello, which is a charming, medieval town set upon a hill. The architecture, food and shopping were wonderful in Spello. It was also a perfect place from which to take day trips to explore Umbria, which is a beautiful region of Italy that is not overrun by American tourists. Casa Spello was a lovely place to stay, and our host (Gina) could not have been more gracious. The apartment that we stayed in was nicely furnished and very comfortable for the six of us. It has thick stone walls, which helped keep it cool in August. The patio/garden area is a gorgeous spot for dinner and just for sitting to enjoy the view. I highly recommend Casa Spello, which is a jewel!
We had the unique opportunity to stay in 2 of the units during our recent stay at Hilltop Village in Spello. The accomadations could not have been better. Wonderful views, lovely garden, good beds, very efficient kitchen and bathrooms as well as lots of atomsphere. Spello is a delightful town. The food was excellent, the conveniences reasonably handy We especially enjoyed the Oro Di Spello shop and its great skin products. We found many things to do in the area and enjoyed our visit. It was very nice to meet the Waldman's who could not have been more gracious hosts. Climbing the hill was a daily challenge and while not my favorite thing to do, it always proved to be worth the effort.

Memorable stay at Casa Spello
I stayed here with my girlfriend for 4 days in May. We are regular world travelers and have definitely found that sometimes the "quaint" European rentals leave a lot to be desired versus the American five-star hotel standard. Well, Casa Spello is a major exception - we loved this place. It was quaint in terms of location and character, but with all of the modern amenities and creature comforts we have come to expect, like modern bathrooms, a huge kitchen, well-insulated, beautiful furnishings, internet access, etc. Great location in the middle of a medieval village (the best one in the area, IMHO). Fantastic restaurants and cafes nearby, stunning views from the house and garden, and very centrally located, only about 10 minutes from Assisi. Stay here - my only regret is that we had non-refundable reservations in Siena and had to rush away after only a few days.

Casa Spello captured my heart!
My stay at Casa Spello enhanced a wonderful visit to this quaint and
authentic town in Italy's historic Umbria region. I welcomed this relaxing
getaway in between busy trips to Rome and Florence. Both the home and
the town exceeded all my expectations.
This charming, immaculate home has 4 separate units, each of which are
well appointed and modern. Amenities abound, including a thoughtful
welcome basket filled with local treats. The owners are very hospitable,
ready to offer suggestions for great restaurants and shops.
Situated at the top of one of Spello's many cobblestone streets, its location
provides spectacular views with breathtaking sunsets which can also be
enjoyed in the lovely garden. Spello captured my heart; most of its homes
are adorned with flowers and built from beautiful peach colored stone which
is gathered from the nearby Subasio Mountain. The locals are welcoming
and friendly and nearby restaurants showcase this town's culinary delights
including local Tartufi mushrooms, homemade strangozzi pasta, and
delicious Sagrantino wine from the nearby town of Montefalco.
My only regret is that I only stayed one week, hardly enough to discover all
this area has to offer- from Perugia to Spoleto, from Montefalco to Assisi
each day is a new discovery. Having visited other parts of Italy before I can
genuinely say that Spello is what parts of Tuscany used to be before it
became overrun by tourists.
I highly recommend a visit to Casa Spello. I can't wait to go back.
Casa Spello will always have a place in my heart.
Spello is breathtakingly beautiful. Red tiled roofs, flowers around every corner even in November and the winding streets invite you to get lost in their charm. The town is filled with friendly people offering a "buona sera" to everyone.
Gina was very helpful from the moment we contacted her about her apartment. She provided a lot of extra information about the area, places to visit, eat and explore. She spent time discussing the apartment with us and was flexiable with our travel dates.
The apartment was large and decorated beautifully. The terrace was warm and sunny and the views of the valley from the kitchen window were picture perfect. We enjoyed cooking in a well stocked kitchen and walking to the piazza in the evenings. Mornings you must visit the pastry shop less than five minutes from the apartment for the best espresso and pastries in Italy. The apartment had a nice library, cable TV, internet, washing machine, dish washer, large bathroom and comfortable furniture.
This is a very hilly town so make sure you bring good walking shoes and learn a few words in Italian to make your visit more memorable.

Casa Spello-Delightful Experience
My stay at Casa Spello - Hilltop Village was a delightful experience - breathtaking, panoramic views; historic village with cobblestone, winding streets; excellent cuisine; great shopping; friendly people and more. All presided over by our wonderful host Regina Waldman who always knew where to shop; eat; and how to best enjoy Spello and the surrounding Italian countryside. Can't wait for the return visit.
Mexico City, Mexico
Our stay in Spello needed an authentic location where to spend our time there.
For starters, the town is beautiful and authentic, small medieval city on a
hilltop, and Casa Spello, a restored property that dates from the XVI century or
so is what we consider to be the best place in town to stay and take advantage
of the location, both of the town, which is strategically located (various
interesting cities like Asissi, Perugia, Montefalco, etc.) and the house itself on
a vantage point in town. The amenities I would rate as top shape, we stayed in
an apartment which resulted to be very comfortable, spacious and warm, and
the service deserves a five star rating. Nothing to dislike. If we ever return to
Spello, we'll definitely stay there again and will be happy to do so.
A place of life-long memories
There are places you go that automatically you know it will be one the peak and most memorable experiences in your life. Staying at this wonderful space in Spello and visiting the local area (including Assisi)with the wonderful walks and sunset can't be beat. Casa de Gina is incredible! Imagine living is a thoroughly and tastefully updated place with original stone work from 100's of years ago. Fireplaces, internet access, everything to make you comfortable, but at the same time getting the feeling from the stones of centuries of life! And the colors! Wow! This is a great combination of relaxing, eating great food, wonderful walks and great conversation with friends. I loved every second of it!
Casa de Gina has to be one of the best restorations in this area. There are quality touches throughout that add to the natural feeling of the area. And there are several wonderful units to choose from, both one bedroom and several bedrooms and baths. Great outdoor space for evening dinner or wine and cheese. This is what a European/Italian vacation should be like, a real experience of Italy and walking through history.
We have been to Umbria on many occasions. The Waldman's was by far our best experience in Italy. Not only were Dan and Gina very friendly and cordial, they are fluent in Italian and gave us recommendations that made out trip more enjoyable than any other Italian experience.
Spello is a small walled town with a wealth of history and is near the better known Umbrian towns such as Assisi. The accomidations were spacious, very clean and comfortable. We had a fully equipped kitchen which came in handy for breakfast and the occasional mid afternoon or late night snack.
I have, and will continue to recommend the Waldman's accomidations to anyone.
Wonderful Family Vacation Spot
We're in the midst of a long term rental here at Casa Spello and are having a great time. The apartment is very comfortable, the town is charming and well located, and there's lots for our family of five to do here.
The town itself feels authentic and the townspeople and our hosts are warm and welcoming. It is easy to do day trips from Casa Spello. We've gone wine tasting, visited the towns of Assisi and Trevi, and explored amazing Roman ruins in an archealogical park nearby. The kids play soccer on the local fields and love doing the shopping on their own in the town square.
The apartment is both luxurious and comfortable. We can't recommend it enough!

Incredible Experience at Casa Spello
Our four-day stay at Casa Spello was absolutely amazing. From the relaxing garden to the absolutely charming rooms, this "house" was spectacular. Everything was perfect on our arrival, complete with a welcome basket of local snacks and wine. The entire estate is spotless AND charming, with modern, up-to-date bathrooms. We stayed there with a large group and had access to all of the apartments so we saw the whole place. Every unit has its own personality but they are all very well-appointed and beautifully furnished. If you are lucky enough to be there when the owners are there, you are in for a treat - they know all of the local spots. Casa Spello is the perfect home base for a week in Umbria, centrally located and in my opinion, locaed in the most charming of all of the local medieval villages. There's a great cafe just a few steps away, and several excellent restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Because Casa Spello is located on the edge of town, you have a spectacular view of the entire valley from some of the rooms and from the garden. We loved every moment - my favorite memory was just relaxing in the garden for hours eating local cheese and veggies and drinking Sagrantino from nearby Montefalco...ahhh. Highly recommended, we will definitely be back!
SIMPLY THE BEST !!!
I spent a week in this gorgeous dream house in Spello.
Spello is everything you imagine when you dream of a vacation in a nice pastoral village in Italy. This is the real thing!
The house fits perfect with the landscape, very very interesting and beautiful design - a combination of a very authentic feeling, plus touches of the famous Italian modern design touches.. Felt immediately like being at home!

A Taste of the Real Italy
We stayed in in Casa Spello in Spello for a week and were transformed into real Italians by the end of the week. We traveled up the cobbled street in the morning to fetch our fresh baked bread from the bakery. We compared the gelato at the many spots throughout the town. The accomodations were over the top. Renovations were done tastefully with a reverance to the Umbrian culture with pottery and design through out. The 2+ bedroom offered plenty of room. Please take advantage of the private garden available to just the guests of Casa Spello. When in season in the summer, take a bite of a fresh plum off the tree in the garden. Enjoy your time at Casa Spello. Please let me know if you want any other details.

Our Fantastic Stay in Spello !!
I really don't know where to start...can I just say our stay in Spello in the beautifully comfortable villa we were lucky enough to stay in was PERFECT.
We really had no idea what to expect when we got there. We had planned a trip for many years & not only was the villa better than expected, but the town of Spello afforded us exactly what we were looking for: the feeling of really "living" Italy.
With 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, etc., the villa fit all of us comfortably. We started off with two people, then had 8, then ended with 5. Having 8 was one too many, so we had to borrow the rollaway, which, then, was perfect! The view out of the villa is breathtaking, & I would catch us just sitting & staring in disbelief of where we actually were. The windows overlook the fantastic garden which is open to each resident of the villa. We ate many meals there, sometimes just brought a bottle of wine, some cheese & crackers, & a book. Most of the time we found ourselves staring at the view.
The town is simply charming. So much history, authentic roman arches still show through the architecture. The stone roads will remind you of the importance of flat shoes for woman as it can be a bit bumpy in heels!! There are fantastic shops in Spello, wonderful espresso and gelato bars (Tullia's is a MUST!), and we made friends with all of them!!
The weather in the beginning of June was a bit warm...hot on some days, but it was better than the thunderstorm we got at the end of June.
Spello is close to so many other towns that we visited. Too many to list, but Assisi is in clear view just minutes away. We found our personal favorite was Montefalco which, again, was very close. There are many vineyards & olive orchards everywhere you turn. And just when I thought we had seen it all, we took the local train to other towns (Perugia and Rome..Florence is also easy by train).
In short, the best review is knowing that we're already planning our next trip to amazing Spello!!
My home in Umbria
When we arrived at casa spello we were very well received. There was a wonderful food basket waiting for us on the beautifully decorated kitchen table.
The location couldn't have been more central and the amenities were all great.
A highlight of our seven weeks in Italy
The "Cantina" unit was delightful. Essentially a 500 year old cellar converted into a cosy and comfortable apartment. The panorama from the garden was postcard perfect, particularly in the evenings when the landscape was accompanied by a stunning sunset (which in our case was most evenings).
We enjoyed our pre-dinner drinks in the garden and conversation with fellow guests and would talk about our adventures of the day, usually comprising of visits to local and equally attractive towns such as Bevagna, Assissi or Todi.
If in Spello, do not miss out on a meal at Osteria del Buchetto, a quaint little restaurant where we enjoyed one of the best meals of our holidays.
Our "host" in Spello, Nadia, was totally accommodating and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for her - making our stay there so much more pleasant.
We loved our stay at Casa Spello!
My husband and I lived in Umbria for a year and a half and returned to visit friends and family as well as see more of Italy. We booked our stay for a week and a half along with a friend who was traveling with us. We all had huge smiles when we opened the door to Casa Spello - it is beautiful, comfortable, elegant, and the most incredible views over the Val'Umbra ever! We had a full kitchen - although the dishwasher was not working at the time of our stay. We had a washing machine and lots of sun for drying our clothes, a large refrigerator by Italian standards, lovely dishes, along with every needed utensil you could ever need. The sunsets were spent outside in the private garden with a bottle of wine and the mornings were beautiful from our upstairs bathroom. When you open the shutters each morning, it takes your breath away each time.
Parking is a ways away but totally walkable, shopping is right in Spello, with many wonderful alimentari nearby. Morning coffee, gelato, and wonderful restaurants are in Spello along with cash machines, the post office, and many local artists walking distance. We loved our stay here and will come back and stay here.
Each time we would leave for the day and come back and see the towers of Spello, we knew we were home! Thank you for a lovely place to call home!
Eden on earth
Our stay at Casa Spello was a dream come true! Oozing charm and a perfect hillside location, it was also a comfortable accomodation with a fully equipped kitchen for making feasts from our local market adventures. And the charming garden put us over the top!
Almost too good to share
I almost don't want to tell anyone about this great place or the amazing town that it is in because it is so good I want to make sure it is available when I can next return. I rented an apartment with 3 friends in one of the apartments on the edge of the town of Spello. We got a last minute booking so we got an apartment that was relatively small for the 4 of us. Before we left we saw that the other apartments were bigger and quite luxurious. Regardless, it was a fantastic place with a terrific garden that seemed to be all ours. We spent a lot of nights sitting amongst the lavender, rosemary and fruit trees, completely at peace with our perfect view. The town itself is small but has everything you could need in a town. It is a town where real people live but they are kind to tourists too. Wandering up and down the wandering streets, sitting in the garden, going to cafes and markets, and making food in our apartment was a great vacation for all 4 of us. I can't wait to go back.
Had a great time...
The apartment is situated very nicely- in a very charming medieval town. The
garden is lovely overlooking a great vista. The seating arrangement can be
improved. It is a great space to have a large umbrella and some comfortable
The apartments them selves are very charming- old with the original stone
walls. They are a big over furnished- and seem a bit dingy. Overall, it was a
great experience but I do think improving conditions inside and out will
encourage more people to visit.
The staff is very helpful!
A wonderful medieval town experience
Spello is a charming medieval hilltop town, a 90 minute ride from Rome, Florence and Siena. Perugia, Assisi and Spoleto are nearby. Casa Spello is the perfect place to stay. Located a short walk away from the main shopping area, the villa overlooks a valley and has a lovely garden with fruit trees where one can dine al fresco. Several different apartments of different size are available, each with its own Italian style of furnishing. Gina and Dan were there during our stay and were very helpful in advising what to do, where to shop, specialities of the area, etc. (and that information is available in folders in the apt, along with a large selection of guide books and art books that give you much information about the area.) Highly recommend staying here to get a sense of what 'living' in Italy can be like.
The Wonderful and Beautiful Medieval and Roman Town of Spello
We have been fortunate enough to stay at this lovely vacation spot on
numerous occasions during the last three years.
The apartments are well equipped. Many have air conditioning, modern
kitchens, and nice beds.
The apartments are located on a street with both Roman and Medieval walls
with an old Roman tower.
Spello is perfectly situated for daily excursions. Perhaps you need a day of
rest and relaxation, the terrace and patio are perfect for lounging with
breathtaking views of the Umbrian countryside including a gorgeous view
Spello offers a unique location being centrally located in Umbria for day
trips by car or train to Rome and Florence (approximately 2 to 3 hours one
way). The Umbrian region is a treasure trove of wonderful cities nearby as
well as easily accessible locations in Tuscany and in the Marche.
Our best to our fellow Italy lovers – explore, enjoy, be inspired!
One of the nicest rentals I've ever stayed in
Casa Spello will cast its spell on you. We had the pleasure of staying in this beautifully restored and immaculately maintained apartment in the charming town of Spello. Gina Waldman, the owner, has turned her vacation home into 4 apartments. We stayed in the Augustus, a 2-story, 1-bedroom delight. Exposed stone walls, modern appliances and Deruta ceramics, along with Tunisian accents and lovely touches throughout. The view of the Umbrian valley is enough in and of itself, with front row seats for the sunset every day. Comfortable bed, inviting and well-cushioned furnishings, high-speed internet access, fully equipped and stocked kitchen, washing machine - the list goes on and on. A lovely outdoor garden, barbeque, arbor, and even a well. Conveniently located within walking distance to a great bakery and local market, and of course, all the nice Spello restaurants, shops, churches, and main piazza. Gina Waldman is a good woman, and her generosity of spirit is evident throughout the apartment, with guidebooks and personal recommendations included in a large album for your perusal. Regional maps, restaurant menus, places of interest, and local reading are in abundance in her bookshelves. I can not recommend this place highly enough - a very lovely stay. We hope to return one day.
The location is in the heartland of Umbria---close to remarkable vineyards, olive presses, historical villages, rolling hills, landscapes, artisans, friendly folk---has it all. The apartment, although below ground level, has nearly all the amenities (no stove) and is quaint. The view is pehnomenal but there is only that one window. Read more
Response from Gina Waldman - 09/14/2009
This apartment is our smallest of the four units. It has one window, with a view of the garden, and a huge (5 ft. wide by 4 ft. high) clear glass door which allows lots of sunlight. We have four units and only this unit doesn't have a stove because it is our smallest.
