We had a lovely stay here in July/August 2013. The apartments are in a great location in the hills between Itri and the coast, set amongst acres of olive trees. The beaches are a 20-30 minute car journey away (depending on which beach you're visiting). The surrounding towns have excellent transport links so it's an ideal base to explore places that are a bit further away such as Sorrento and Pompeii.
The apartment that we stayed in was very spacious and comfortable. It came equipped with everything that you could conceivably need during your stay, whether it be plentiful wardrobe space or a ravioli cutter. Our favourite feature was the massive private balcony. You can spend the evening dining al fresco while watching the sunset as it lights up the surrounding mountains and olive trees.
Paul and Louise were superb hosts who were very knowledgeable about the local area. They provided help and advice on a multitude of issues - deciding which beach to visit through to explaining how parking works in the local towns. Nothing was too much trouble for them during our stay.
To summarise, the Tre Cancelle apartments are a genuine home from home in a beautiful location.

This was a super find that we stumbled upon through the internet. We stayed in the upstairs apartment which was very clean and comfortable, providing great relaxation and fabulous sunsets from the terrace looking out to the mountains and coast. Paul and Louise are perfect hosts, being on hand to provide all the local information and knowledge to make for a great holiday but also allowing you plenty of space to enjoy their property. They also maintain a website with loys of information and interest about the property and locality. There is so much to see and visit in the locality but we also made easy day visits to both Rome and Pompeii using fast and cheap trains from the station in Itri. This holiday met all our expectations - thoroughly recommended.
Due to our late flight, we only got to the apartment at about 03:00 in the morning. This was no trouble for the hosts (Paul and Louise) Paul even picked us up from the main road, and lead us to the apartment.
The apartment was beautiful. It had a very homely feel too. The place was clean, and above all, had everything we needed for our stay. It is beautifully decorated (I am sure Louise spent many hours doing that!)
The apartment is set in a beautiful location (on their farm). Its feels lovely and isolated, but you are only 3-4km away from the nearest town Itri, so you can buy any groceries, or eat out. The apartment overseas the olive grove and beautiful mountains.
The host had a book with all relevant information in the area. They were also always available to answer any questions that we had.
It was a magical stay, and we would certainly recommend it to anyone.

The owners are a lovely couple and were so helpful. From the first contact, via email, they catered for our every need.We were travelling with two small boys so we had lots of questions which were all answered. An example of their "going beyond the call of duty" was when we asked if a specific type of milk -lactose free-was available for one of our boys in the local shops. They actually bought a couple of litres and had them in the fridge for our arrival.
The actual house turned out to be just what we were looking for.Clean,child-proof and located in "real" Italy. Not too far from either beaches or mountains.
On the days when we just wanted to chill out, there was always the pool.
We have very happy memories of our stay with Paul and Louise.

We stayed here for 3 nights in May with friends and found the accommodation perfect for a relaxing short break. We stayed in the upper apartment which enjoys wonderful views over olive groves down the valley to the sea. The location is good - only about 5 minutes drive to Itri which is a nice old town, and the coast is not far either (20 minutes if I remember correctly) The hosts, Paul and Louise, were very friendly, welcoming and happy to provide tips/information on the locality etc. In short, I'd have no hesitation in staying here again if passing through this part of Italy in the future.

We were so made welcome at Tre Cancelle. To say it was a home from home would not do it justice - our home isn't as warm and friendly as this! As dog lovers we were so enamored of the "Woof Gang". If you want the bright lights and "Kiss Me Quick" brigade to share your holiday - don't come to Itri! We didn't speak a word of Italian when we arrived but the locals all went out of their way to make us welcome... and there was always Paul & Louise should they be needed.
A not to be forgotten rural Italian experience. Wonderful!
Charming rural retreat with fantstic English hosts

Imagine a remote spot in the Italian countryside surrounded by olive groves with magnificent views to the Sperlonga beaches. Prepare a simple meal in the well appointed kitchen and dine alfresco on the balcony with a glass of the local vino. Watch the twinkling lights appear in the distance as the sun disappears over the mountains and the soft Italian evening descends. It was pure magic and I could almost feel the cares melt away in this tranquil setting.
Our hosts, Paul and Louise went out of their way to ensure a great stay for us. They'll guide you to the best local restaurants, point you to great beaches and wonderful scenic villages in the aurunci (??) mountains. Louise even taught mne how to order cold meat and chees in the local shops and where to buy the best gelato ever. This was a holiday experience like none other and I can't wait to return to Itri.
A lovely farmhouse in the traditional olive groves

Paul and Louise made us very welcome to the apartment at the top of their farmhouse, with its pool, an oasis in the middle of the working olive groves between Itri, Fondi, Gaeta and Formia. It's easy to get to these towns, but the real gems of the area are the medieval hilltop villages like Pico and Lenola where the roads are too narrow for a car and the shops sell hand made Mozzarella, local olives, rustic bread and wine perfect for a picnic in the hills.

Had a lovely 10 days at Tre Cancelle in May 2013. It was perfect for us (two adults and toddler). The accommodation was comfortable and had a "homely" feel. We enjoyed cooking with fresh, local ingredients and eating on the terrace appreciating the spectacular view. There was lots to enjoy between the mountains and sea in the close surrounding area. Louise and Paul were friendly and kind hosts. They produce the best olive oil I've ever tasted too! Would love to return some day.

A nice country house with a very friendly host couple. Paul and Louise made us feel like at home. Gave us great advice on where to go and what to see. The kids could borrow some beachtoys used by their relatives when visiting.
The beaches of Sperlonga are easy to reach via a 20 minutes car ride. Historic city of Itri, just a few minutes away, is well worth a couple of visits.
The best memory are the beautiful evenings sitting on the balcony overlooking the hills with olive trees, with the sea in the distance and seeing the sun set.
Neat & tidy with a well equipped kitchen. There were many friendly dogs at the house when we were there. We would love to go back again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Tre Cancelle in springtime with a serive second to none from our hosts. The surrounding olive groves and beautiful aurunci Mountains were just beautiful early morning visions. Extremely clean and affordable accommodation, a home away from home!Very near to the enchanting villages of Campodimele and Itri.

Well, what can I say? Having stayed with Louise and Paul almost every year since they began. This beautiful place they call home, is located in a very quiet area but not too far from sandy beaches and little market towns. The most perfect hosts make you feel most welcome and you usually go home having made new friends for life. The house and Olive grove are child friendly. They do keep dogs but they are in an area of there own.

Beautiful Tre Cancelle!
We had the most wonderful time staying at Tre Cancelle when on vacation in March. Paul and Louise are fantastic hosts. We felt so much at home there; yet at the same time we were surrounded by a lush olive grove and vineyard, completely immersed in Italian life. The apartment was so clean and homey; it had everything we could have possibly needed during our stay. The view from our bedroom balcony overlooking Louise's garden, the hills, and the sea in the distance was breathtaking. The peaceful quiet setting in the Itri countryside was fantistic.
We enjoyed driving intro Itri's city center to shop and to visit the castle. We found the cemetery near Tre Cancelle very interesting, surprisingly we spent an entire morning there. We went out to dinner a few times in Itri and a couple of neighboring towns, delicious authentic meals, but we loved shopping for food in the local markets and bringing it back to the apartment to make dinner. Our favorite meals were had at Tre Cancelle, sitting around the table trading stories with Louise and Paul into the night.
Tre Cancelle also worked great as a home base while we visited other regions of Italy. We took a couple of day trips to Rome and to the Naples area and we took an overnight trip to Pescara on the east coast.
The dogs at Tre Cancelle "the wolf gang” made leaving my dogs behind at home much easier. There was always one available to go for a walk or play fetch in the yard.
Needless to say, I'm counting the days until my next visit to Tre Cancelle.
Louise and Paul thanks again for a wonderful visit.

The Tre Cannele villa and its owners, where we stayed during a fortnight last august, presented us with a unique experience of combining a total relax and quiet of deep countryside, meals on a big open terrace overlooking lonely hills and olive groves with no human on the horizon, and exuberant, crowded, vivacious life of sea-side resorts, just 20 minute-drive away, with crystal-clear water and the best beaches of the Italian west coast! Historic, architectural, cultural sites as many as one can encompass. And incomparable local food products.. No better place that we can recommend to people who love Italy or still have a chance to fall in love with it.

Being of Italian origin and having stayed with family in a picturesque village nestled in the appenines in the Lazio region on numerous occasions, including prior to the stay at Tre Cancelle, the hospitality extended by Paul and Louise Shapcott and stunning location provided by Tre Cancelle was an extension of the 'family' experience. Itri has several excellent restaurants and a great family waterpark with breath-taking views; Sperlonga has a wonderful, extensive sandy beach, a beautifully preserved old centre peppered with craft/art studios; Gaeta, a town with a lively military history and numerous sites of historical interest, is a short drive to the south; Rome and Naples (Pompeii) are a must visit; Terracina port is unmissable if a delicious and varied seafood menu is required (at reasonable cost). I could go on, however the only way to truly ignite the senses is to visit. Tre Cancelle provides the perfect base.

My partner and I and my parents spent a week at Tre Cancelle in October - the weather was still lovely at that time of year. We stayed in the newly renovated upstairs apartment which was very homely and had all mod cons. We went on day trips to Naples, Sperlonga, Montecassino and other parts of the surrounding area - all easy to get to. The owners Louise and Paul made us most welcome and couldn't do enough to make sure we had an enjoyable stay.

The apartment was really well equipped and very clean. The owners were lovely and extremely helpful. The location was great for visits to Rome, Naples, Pompeii and Monte Casino. The town of Itri is very pleasant & has some nice restaurants. The children enjoyed the dogs (although they barked when the owners were out!)
The grounds were very nice & we enjoyed eating fresh figs from the trees. The views from the balcony were magnificent.

Paul and Louise have created a welcoming and charming farmhouse with self-catering apartments on two floors, both of which command views over vines and olive groves in the rolling hills behind Sperlonga. They go out of their way to make ones stay interesting and memorable and are a mine of useful information about key places to visit in the surrounding countryside.

Well, our stay in Tre Cancelle was the most extraordinary and pleasurable experience we ever had on any holiday. The apartment was so comfortable and we were supplied all we could possibly need and much more too!
We cannot exaggerate any of the pleasures and abundant hospitality that was showered on both of us from the moment we arrived, Louise and Paul made our holiday an unforgettable experience, they are excellent hosts who are friendly and helpful.
We still talk of the fresh figs we picked from the tree for breakfast, the peace and spectacular views from the balcony & in the evenings looking down on the sun setting over the sea and the lights of Sperlonga twinkling in the distance.
The coastline is well worth touring, there are lots of good towns to visit and all along the coast there is an abundance of good beaches. The scenery along the coast and inland too, is spectacular.
We found the beach in Sperlonga very nice with clean, clear water and plenty of facilities. Sperlonga is a nice town and the quaint streets in old part are a delight to explore.
It is worth spending a day at least in some of the other surrounding towns and villages such as Itri, and Formia. We enjoyed eating freshly-cooked fish at the harbourside in Terracina, and taking an evening stroll around the port of Gaeta. The Abbey at Monte Cassino is well worth visiting.
Being located halfway between Rome and Naples, we were able to visit both, Herculaneum and Pompei were amazing.
The drive to Tre Cancelle from Rome was easy thanks to excellent, clear directions.

Have been here four times since 2007, and it gets better every time. Paul & Louise are the world's best hosts, the accommodation is charming and the location is beautiful. If you want to get away from the tourist traps and sample the real Italy then this is the place to stay. AND if all this isn't enough, the surrounding area is full of breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches and amazing architecture. Whats not to like ?
