Description from the owner
Our cottage is a unique Irish thatched cottage , which we have lovingly restored and extended. The original house was built in the late 19th century and has been occupied since then. We have just three rooms for guests as we wanted to keep the intimate, friendly atmosphere of a cottage. All guest's rooms have their private facilities. In the evening , all guests are welcome to relax in our sitting room and enjoy a cup of tea, a chat and a laugh , before a warming peat fire. We will be very happy to answer all your questions and advise on your itinerary , during your stay.
The cottage is surrounded on both sides by mature garde...Read more

Additional Location Information
An Caladh Gearr is located 5klms west of Spiddal on the coast road (R336) and is ideal as a base to tour Conamara or to visit the Aran Islands, also to visit Galway city. This area along the coast is a Gaeltacht, so called because the Irish language is still spoken here in daily life. As a result of this, there is a great appreciation of our Irish culture to be found.
Conamara has breathtaking beauty with its mountains and lakes and rural landscape. The Aran Islands are full of historic sites and Irish culture. Galway has shops , restaurants , pubs and Irish music. Spiddal, only 5klms away has a brilliant craft centre, where you can pick up some nice gifts. Also it has restaurants and pubs, with Irish music. The surrounding area is lovely for a coastal walk, a beach walk or a bog walk.
There is a bus service to Galway city and there is private car parking .

Torino (Italy)Genuine Irish hospitality and atmosphere
Left on 06/04/2012 for a stay in September 2011
Since the first time (in 2001, I guess...) I returned often to this B&B;, even just for a one night stay, and I've never been disappointed. The accomodation and service were always very good, but I'd take the warm hospitality of Maura and John as the real plus. They are always very happy to provide the guests with any kind of information (ranging from local attractions to traditional Irish recipes) or just to invite them for an evening chat in the livingroom in front of a turf fire.
The location is very quiet and at the same time easily accessible. It is ideal for touring Galway area (Galway centre at about 15 min driving), Aran Islands, south Connemara and also the Burren.
If you have the chance, don't miss to try the supergood miniscones which Maura sometimes prepares for breackfast!

Falls Church, Va.Beautiful thatched cottage near the beaches and city of Galway f
Left on 05/31/2012 for a stay in May 2012
This gem of a B&B; is just as you might picture in your mind a little thatched cottage of old...the rooms are spacious, the breakfast delicious and the gracious hospitality you are offered by the innkeepers is far beyond expectations. There is a warm hearth to great you as well as tea and a sweet on arrival. The cottage is by the seaside and near two spectacular beaches - Carna (coral beach) and Carraroe that is awash in colorful shells!! The City of Galway is just a short drive away and has so much to offer museums, art, music, shopping etc. and good local rapid transit readily available. I have visited an Cladagh Gearr several times and keep coming back for its beauty, warmth and its location...it's a Irish gem B&B; you should not miss!!

SCWarm, inviting, and all over grand!!!
Left on 04/09/2012 for a stay in June 2011
Maura and Michael were the perfect hosts from the warming peat fires each evening, the comfy beds, and the fabulous breakfasts-made to order. Be sure to try the pancakes with bananas and maple syrup--to die for!! Maura had a hugh bowl of fresh fruit each day and fresh baked scones. There were 5 of us traveling together. Best part of our trip-stayed a week and took day trips and returned to a welcoming home each evening.Located across the street from Galway Bay-dream come true.
