Additional Location Information
Split is a wonderful city to explore and is a perfect spot to explore the coast and the islands too. Some highlights of Split are :
Diocletian's Palace (UNESCO heritage site) - The historic centre of Split is built around the remains of this Roman palace. You only need to wander around to experience it but you can also pay to visit the excavated remains of the basement of the palace. The palace has well preserved main streets cardo and decumanus. Roman palace is enriched with gothic and renaissance buildings. The Palace has 4 monumental gates Porta Aurea (Zlatna vrata, Golden gate), Porta Argenta (Srebrna vrata, Silver gate), Porta Ferrea (Željezna vrata, Iron gate) and Porta Aenea (Mjedena vrata) forming the North, South, East and West entries to the Palace. It is probably the best preserved Roman palace in general.
St. Duje's Cathedral - Originally built around 305 AD as a mausoleum of Roman emperor Diocletian's (the oldest cathedral building in the world). It is a mixture of Roman temple and Catholic church. It also has a fantastic bell tower which provides you a great panoramic view of Split, nearby islands and Marjan hill. (this tower is seen from the living room of Palace View apartment)
Peristil square (Peristylium) – This is the main square of Diocletian's palace with well preserved Roman architecture which has just been fully unveiled having been undergoing restoration for the last eight years.
Jupiter's temple - Ancient Roman temple which became St. John's church.
Two original Egyptian sphinxes- One is located on Peristil square, and the other in front of Jupiter's temple or St. John's church. They were brought from Egypt by the Roman emperor Diocletian.
Riva is the main city promenade which forms the waterfront of the Palace and Old Town.
Marjan - a National Park which is situated on the west of Split. Marjan is an oasis for many people who look for a natural stress relief, a great place for long walks, jogging, and bike rides. Marjan's peak, Telegrin is 174 m high and gives a wonderful panoramic view of Split. South cliffs are popular within alpine climbers. St. Nicholas church is situated on the east of Marjan, on it's south side are beautiful St. Jeronimus church and "Gospe od Betlema" church (Madonna of Bethlehem). House building is strictly forbidden in order to save Marjan - the lungs of Split.
Veli Varoš - one of the oldest parts of town. A place where lived most of the city peasants and fishermen. Charming streets and beautiful small houses.
Galerija Meštrović - gallery contains works of Ivan Meštrović, famous Croatian sculptor.
Archaeological Museum - the oldest museum in Croatia(1820.), about 20 min walk north of the old town (entry 20 kn). Many artefacts and monuments from Roman colonies Salona and Narona.
Green Market / Pazar: a wonderful market at the East gate of the Palace and just two minutes from the apartment. Here you can find everything from fresh farm produce to local cheeses, flowers, meats, local honey, fabulous fresh local fruits and vegetables long with imported goods and souvenirs.
The apartment/city is 25 km from Split international airport, in the old centre of Split.
Airport buses: A shuttle bus run by Pleso Transport Company [3] operates between the airport and the city centre.A single ticket costs 30 kn (about €4). The bus stops at the central bus station by the port at a dedicated stop with an "AIRPORT" sign.
Taxis will also take you into town. A taxi to Split centre (ferry port or Diocletian's Palace) takes a bit over 30 min and costs about 270 kn on the meter.
Private Transfer: we can organise a private pickup or drop off for the airport and it costs 300 kuna for up to four guests.
If leaving Split by plane, be careful to plan the journey to the airport in advance, as local buses don't run before 5 AM or after midnight.

Lovely apartment 10 metres outside the old city walls.Quiet at night yet so close to all the restaurants, sights & markets. Ingrid the owner, greeted us on our arrival & gave us lots of tips on good restaurants & things to do & see. A great host. Apartment was well fitted out, had lots of character & was very comfortable. Had to carry the luggage up a steep flight of stairs (3 levels I think) but none of the houses or apartments anywhere have lifts. The view from our apartment at the top was worth it.

Wonderful apartment. Very large, impeccibly clean and Ingrid is a warm, friendly and extremely accomodating host. The location is perfect for getting around Split and the proximity to the morning market is a great perk.

Beautiful, clean and well equipped apartment right in the centre of Split with great bars & restaurants just a few steps from the front door. 2 mins walk to the ferry for day trips to Trogir, Hvar & Brac. nearest beach is about 15 mins walk but 30 mins walk north to much quieter beaches near the archaeological museum. the only downside is the three flights of stairs after a long day in the sun!

We really enjoyed our stay at Palace View. The apartment has been converted with great attention to detail and lots of amenities. Great for a family of four with plenty of space and great air conditioning! So welcome in the intense heat. Great location overlooking walls of Diocletion Palace and busy street market, and yet very quiet. Good location for exploring fascinating maze of alley ways of the old town and huge choice of places to eat wonderful local seafood. Ingrid, the owner, could not have been more helpful both with the booking process and throughout our stay - felt we'd made a new friend!

Left on 06/12/2012 for a stay in June 2012
My wife and infant son recently completed a one week stay in lovely Split and the only bad thing I have to say about this place is that it was so nice that we often didn't want to leave! In all seriousness, the owners made it a snap to rent this place. We paid ahead of time via paypal and arrived via driver from Dubrovnik whereby the owner spoke with our driver on the phone giving him directions and actually met us at the top of the street and assisted us with our baggage to the apartment. This was certainly appreciated and frankly unexpected. The owners were easy to deal with, responded quickly and even fixed the washer while we were there and purchased detergent for our use. They even bought for us milk and left us a Graco crib knowing we had an infant with us. The apartment is a spacious two bed two bath unit on the third floor on Hrjojeva (sp?) Street which literally looks upon the outer walls of Diocletian's palace. The kitchen and baths are renovated nicely. There's cable tv, a sectional couch, a nice dining table and two bedrooms, one with a queen and one with two twins so this place is excellent for a family. It's on a pretty quiet block at night and there's a daily market all day on the street, selling t-shirts, clothing etc. and there are supermarkets within walking distance as well as the green market around the corner. The heart of old town is literally like a one minute walk, if that (its actually like less than 300 feet or so) out of the apartment and the main harbor, including ferries, trains and taxis is less than five minutes away, if that. Also close by is the Riva where you can do all the people watching. In addition, you have Bacvice beach, a pretty nice public beach within about a 15 minute walk. I was told prior to my week in Split that I was staying there too long, however, Split is a wonderful city with direct access to ferries to many islands and bus excursions. We went on to Hvar for a night and there was so much more we could have done, but the apartment was so lovely we generally hung around old town and went back to the apartment. We even bought fish one day at the fish market in old town and prepared it at the apartment. The owner leaves a very handy guide in the apartment with her recommendations as to where to eat, drink, banks, pharmacies, markets, etc., and we found many of these eating recommendations to be spot on. Especially the pizza at the golden palace (zlatna vrata) in which you can eat world class pizza in a wonderful romanesque courtyard...and Stellon at Bacvice. There are two CRT tvs, with a good selection of channels and also wifi access. This was the nicest place I found other than a hotel in Split. Just a wonderful place, one which I would return to if we ever go back to Split. By the way, Ingrid, our infant son took his first steps in your apartment!

We (four girlfriends in our 60s) stayed here for a week. It was so beautiful I am Facebook friends with Palace View so I can brag about the place to my friends. The apartment is right out of architectural Digest and when you walk out the door you're within yards of the Old Town and the city market. Put Croatia, Split, and Palace View on your bucket list. I can't say enough good things about all three.

I stayed at Palace View in September with some friends. The location couldn't be better being right next to the Palace walls. The appartment itself was very clean and comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen. Although Ingrid sadly was not around to welcome us due to a family emergency, Antonia, Ingrid's friend was supeerb, extremely helpful and welcoming and supported me through my own emergency when admitted to hospital. Ingrid has been great in ensuring I got everything I needed once I returned to the UK. I would highly recommend this appartment.

It is a beautifully restored apartment with modern amenities. The kitchen was especially nice. Fully equipped with sets of plates, bowls, drinking glasses, wine glasses...Just like a home should be. Even condiments for cooking. We thank you. Those soft white towels. (Yes, they were very white. We loved them.) The location is fabulous. Just at the other side of the wall of the Dioclecian Palace. A neighborhood bakery where we bought fresh bread every morning. Very European! And the fresh food markets where we bought fruits and vegetables. We had a wonderful three day stay there. However, this beautiful property is not for those who cannot deal with climbing the stairs. There are a total of 60 steps before one gets to the apartment.
My only suggestion to the owner is to make available the user manual for TV and DVD/CD. We could not figure out how to use it. Oh, yeah. One more thing, if a lighter set of quilts could be provided for the bedroom with twin beds. They were very heavy. Because there was no other choice, we had to resort to turning on the aircon in order to have a good night sleep. -

Wow! Palace View was the first place we stayed on our trip and we were blown away! Incredible location looking out over the east wall of Diocletian's Palace and the market in the pedestrianized street below. Both bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and the bathrooms and kitchen feature every modern convenience. Very open and airy dining and living rooms. Ingrid and her husband have done a fabulous job renovating this apartment to highlight the historic nature of the building and its location (exposed stone, the incredible arch in the entryway!) whilst making it at the same time feel very modern and chic. Watching the birds flock around the palace in the evenings (and the resident cats run around the walls hoping for a slow one!) while enjoying a glass of wine was fantastic. Even with windows open the street noise was never more than a pleasant background buzz. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Ingrid and she was extremely kind and patient with us in answering our many questions and offering fantastic suggestions about dining and activities. My one regret is that we didn't stay longer!

Wow! Wow! Wow! What an amazing apartment! Definitely a five star experience! It is situated in the best part of Split, 2 mins walk to the Palace and 3 mins walk to all the amenities that you will need. It is extremely clean and modern and has a well stocked kitchen with every utensil. I will definitely be recommending to friends and family and look forward to staying there again when I next visit Croatia. Ingrid the host is lovely and extremely helpful! Thanks very much, lots of happy memories!

My partner and our 2 best friends in the whole world took a 2 week trip to Croatia. We began in Zagreb and drove down the coast visiting Pula, Zadar, Vis, Split and Dubrovnik.
Our night in Split (we needed 5 more!) was spent in the Palace View Apartment. It was beautiful. Ingrid was wonderful and we all did not want to leave. Ingrid met us and even allowed us to arrive early, we had just come in off of the 5:30 am ferry from Vis. She met us, helped us with our luggage and gave us the run down of Split. The apartment is stocked with everything you might need and so BEAUTIFUL.
The location could not be better, literally you walk out the front door cross a walkway and walk into the Palace. I fell asleep that night looking out the window at the beautifully lit Bell Tower (climb it, it is worth it!).
Please stay here - it makes your trip that much more wonderful. -

palace view is overlooking the roman emporor diocletian's palace from 300ad. the view is lovely. around the corner are 2 small grocery stores and a farmers' market which was fabulous--fresh vegetables, breads, meats, homemade olive oils, homemade liquors, flowers, you name it, it was probably there!
the apartment is decorated in a lovely modern manner. the kitchen is the best stocked for cooking of any apartment we've rented, and with the farmers' market around the corner, this worked out very well.
there are two bathrooms with plenty of room. one has a big shower and the other a bathtub/shower. there is a european combo washer/dryer in the one bathroom, but we never really got the knack of drying with it.
the apartment is up 3 flights of stairs, so i would not recommend it for anyone with mobility issues, or travelling with toddlers, because i would not want to have to lug them up those 3 flights.
the owner was immensely helpful and lovely. she made wonderful suggestions re: restaurants, car rentals, travel, etc.
there is a great restaurant right across the street, in diocletian's palace, through the silver gate. i forget the name.
definitely pay to see the basement of diocletian's palace ( a negligible amount). it was only discovered recently, as it had been filled in with garbage during the middle ages. and the palace itself is a unesco site, filled with shops, apartments, hotels, restaurants and an inordinate number of pizza parlours and churches. it was a lot of fun to just wander around what was originally the palace itself. right next door to the palace is the town built during the middle ages, which is equally fun to wander around. -

Four of us stayed in this apartment and felt like we were in an upscale hotel, except we had a kitchen, 2 baths, and a washing machine. The apartment is beautiful and fully equipped with everything we needed. The only thing we wanted that we didn't have was a coffee maker.
Every detail has been attended to. The furnishings and accessories are exceptional. It was great having 2 bathrooms.
Even though the apartment is up 4 flights of stairs, they are short flights and well worth the effort. The location is right outside the palace gates and within a few minutes walking from the Rive and market.
Don't miss shopping at the market. It's quite an experience. -

My family stayed at the palace view for one week in this summer, we are three generations and it was wonderful for us. Bigger than normal places so room for us all during the days. Just beside the gates to the palace but not noisy at all. Everything we needed was there in the place for cooking and relaxing and also for the baby crib which was free. Would be better to have a lift for baggage but old building so we had to use stairs.

We stayed at the Palace View in Split after a weeks sailing around Croatia and whilst this was fab, we were so grateful to have such luxury and spaciousness after being on a small yacht for a week! I really cannot recommend the apartment enough. It was truely stunning and very luxurious, definitely had the wow factor with its original stone walls, all newly done up, very very spacious too and had every mod con you could imagine. The beds were so comfortable too! The location was perfect, right in the heart of Split next to the Palace and all of its lovely restaurants but still very quiet due to being a few floors up..... and only a 10-20 min walk to the nearest beaches.
The owner Ingrid was lovely and took obvious pride in the apartment (rightly so!) and she was more than helpful and very very patient with us when booking and also spent time with us when we arrived telling us the best places to go which was very much appreciated..... especially the cocktail bar!
Overall if you're looking for a lovely luxurious apartment in Split in the best location, you really can't go wrong here! -

Four of us stayed at this apartment and we had a brilliant time. The people checking us in gave us loads of really good information about Split and everything in the area. The flat was really big and comfortable, we were able to do our washing and eat in when we wanted to cos the kitchen was decent. Internet was free and loads of tv channels. Place is right at the edge of the old town and palace so near everything.
Definitely we'll be back here, and friends of mine have booked themselves in for next year already .... best recommendation I can say. -

LondonA Perfect Gem ... our home from home vacation
Left on 04/29/2010 for a stay in August 2009
We stayed in this lovely apartment for almost a week and had a blast of a vacation. Having a large apartment in lieu of two hotel rooms gave us great flexibility in our daily plans and the great big living space/kitchen meant we could even invite our pals for dinner. The apartment had everything we could think of that we might need for our stay, my wife especially loved having a kitchen fully kitted.
The agents were easy to contact and had great information about what to do and what not to do. We were guided to a few gems that we never would have found without their guidance (still owe you guys a beer!!)
The location was right in the centre of town looking out on the cutest little market stalls and we shopped every day from the green market just down the street. The Palace was a delight to walk around and every day found us exploring a different alleyway or cafe or bar. The beaches were a little bit of a disappoint to be honest but the city made up for that. Maryan hill is a national park right in the middle of the city! Don't miss it. -

I stayed in this apartment with my family in the summer of 2006. It is a beautifully restored apartment in the heart of Split, with views over the palace walls. There is a calmness about the apartment that strikes you immediately you enter it. No matter how busy or hectic your day was, you return 'home' to a serene atmosphere in Palace View and all is well. The apartment has 2 bathrooms, recently remodelled and a lovely kitchen. The bedrooms are a good size and are comfortably furnished.
The service we received was second to none. The owners helped us with advice on what to do and where to eat.
Split itself is a wonderful city to explore. The ancient palace, with its marble tiles, warren-like alleys, bijou shops, markets and cafes is a joy to spend time in. My kids especially loved chasing pigeons in the many squares, while we sat over a relaxing cup of coffee.
The beach is a 20 minute walk away, but make sure you pick up some beach shoes in the market before you go, as there are no sandy beaches here in Split. They are stone beaches which definitely require footwear.
I would highly recommend a visit to Split, Croatia, and would also highly recommend you stay at Palace View, a haven of tranquility and calm.
