Bella Due - central Spoleto, car NOT necessary.
Spoleto, Umbria, Italy
What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
PLease note that Google may NOT show the exact location ie Rocca Dei Perugini.
Bella Due is in Porta Fuga, in the Rocca Dei Perugini, a very beautiful palazzo in the most ancient part of the historic centre of Spoleto, entirely pedestrian, very pretty and teaming with shops, bars and restaurants.
A mellow city/town, the famous city of Spoleto is like a giant fairy castle with arches, tunnels and cobbled streets. At the top of Spoleto, a 15 mins walk or a short bus-ride from Piazza Garibaldi, a few minutes down the road, is the famous Ponte (a magnificent Roman aquaduct), which takes you immediately into the mountains. Also, here is Spoleto's pride and joy, a sensational piece of architecture, La Rocca, a castle, now used as an exhibition centre.
In the centre of Italy and of Umbria, Spoleto is the perfect location to base yourself, if you wish to visit the rest of Italy. Rome is easy to get to by train, about 1 he 20 mins. Naples is about 4 hours away. And, Venice is the furthest away, being 5 hours direct by train.
Spoleto resembles an illustration from one of those classic fairy-tale books. Walking through its cobbled, arched streets is like walking in a dream. It is the kind of place where fantasy meets reality and you believe that anything could happen !
Spoleto is older than Rome. However, it is not essential to be steeped in history to be able to appreciate the spirituality and awesome beauty of Spoleto. The spirit of its fascinating past is immersed in every stone and cobble. Within this mediaeval setting, you can also enjoy the finest wines, the best truffles and the most mouth-watering olive-oils in Italy in the myriad of bars and restaurants scattered in and around the tiny, arched streets. You can literally savour some of the best cooking in the world here. You can sit for hours in the piazzas, sipping real cappuccino and enjoying ice-creams to die for. And, for the really irreverent among you, there are always the shops and, not-to-be missed by any self-repecting Italian, that most famous of all Italian activities, the passagiata that takes place between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, come rain or shine !!!
For the sporty amongst you, there is a flash tennis club that you can use, which is within walking distance of almost anywhere you are staying or a short bus-ride from Piazza Garibaldi. And, there is pony trekking that takes place just outside of Spoleto. The stables are placed in a exquisite environment and, you can either go on long treks into the mountains or just do an hour or so in the nearby woods – all supervised, the level of supervision depending on your level of expertise.
Other activities available are swimming, fishing, cycling, walking......these and many more activities such as wine-tasting and truffle-trails can be investigated at the tourist office in Piazza Liberta in central Spoleto (0039) 0743 238 920/1 - the persons to speak to are Max or Cyncia, both of whom speak perfect English and who are very helpful. Max, in particular. Here there are also maps with places of special interest marked on trails (including the Rocca dei Perugini) as well as many more walking trails in the hills round about.
It is, also, very easy to reach Assisi, Perugia, Bevagna, Orvieto, Trevi, Norcia, Todi, the Gran Piano and Castellucio, all between 10 to 50 minutes drive. Or, there are the trains and the busses. Our nearest lake is Bracciano, a small town with a castle, where the wedding took place of Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes, about a 50 minute drive.
However, while all these other Umbrian towns and cities are worth a visit, Spoleto is the one to actually stay a while because it has everything ! Of all the Italian cities, Spoleto is arguably the most beautiful and one of the most diverse in what it has to offer the world traveller. Very much a town and country experience, you can lounge in bars, gelaterie and restaurants, meander up and down the cobbled arched streets or, you can don your walking kit and set off into the hills, treading the very same foot-paths of the millions of pilgrims who have trod this path since time immemorial. Walk for a maximum of 15 minutes in any direction from anywhere in Spoleto and you can be in the mountains, immersed in the most spectacular scenery…….bright green valleys, hills covered with olive groves, thick woodland, monasteries, castles and tiny villages dotted here and there, a truly magical environment ! Particularly, if you start your walk from across the aquaduct.
Glamour and style ! Or, walking boots and a stick ! The choice is yours !

The place was great, but even better were the propery managers/landlords Norma and Laurie. They were very helpful in getting us settled in and provided us with a lot if information regarding Spoleto and surronding areas to visit and see.
I highly recommend doing business with them wherever you stay as they have other options as well. -

this was my third trip to italy & wanted to spend it in the region of umbria. the apartment was big, clean and very airy with beautiful flowers surrounding the balconies. i was a solo traveler and felt very safe as the apartment is gated.my three week stay was wonderful. both norma & laurie were very nice people & lived right at the apartment if you needed anything. the train stn., was about an 10 min walk (up hill, which was most of umbria) the towns people who spoke very little english were just as nice and once they recognized you they were very welcoming (they also helped me with my italian!)the location was a good central point to visit other surrounding cities. since the shops/stores close from 1:30 to 4:30 i strongly suggest you plan ahead for meals if you are planning to do your meals in the apartment. tourist office not far and they speak english and very helpful.

Bella Due is very conveniently located off the Corso Garibaldi, a street full of chic shops in the lower town.
It has a large, comfortable sitting/dining room, good double bedroom with a comfortable bed, a good bathroom, and private parking at the rear. There is a lift (it is on the 4th floor).
There is no aircon (it was sweltering when were there) but fans in every room, and the kitchen is a bit cramped (but there are many good restaurants nearby) -

Thank you for making our 2 months in Spoleto so enjoyable and memorable. We had a fantastic time. The apartment was perfect for us - clean and with everything provided. We did not miss out by not having a car with the buses and trains taking us everywhere we wanted to go. There was so much to see and do. Thank you Norma and Laurie for being so friendly and helpful during our stay. The pick up from the station on arrival was most appreciated. We would highly recommend these apartments.

Great base to explore Spoleto and the rest of Umbria is easily accessible--the area around Norcia was a real find for us. The owners are very helpful and keyed in to the area. You can't miss with a holiday with them in Spoleto.

Left on 02/02/2012 for a stay in August 2011
I can't believe it's taken 6 months to send in this review! We stayed in Bella Due with our 15 month old daughter this past summer, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The location is wonderful, and the apartment had everything we needed. The only downside was the timing - one week is enough for discovering Spoleto, but not long enough to visit much of the surrounding area. Next time we come (which we know we'll do), we plan to stay for at least 2 weeks - if not 3 or more - and we'll finally see the pool at Villa Marianna :)
As for logistics, Laurie and Norma could not have been more helpful! They truly went above and beyond to get us from the train station to Belle Due, and they even helped us settled in. They are wonderful people.
I think our favorite feature of Belle Due was being able to listen to the music coming from the street every night on our little patio...if only it were bigger (we had to fight for space with our drying laundry)! Many glasses of wine were enjoyed out there. Another great feature was being able to walk out the door and directly onto the main street - shops and restaurants galore. The location was truly amazing.
For people looking to spend more time indoors, you might want to consider the apartment next door (Norma would know the name - she rents it as well), since it's bigger and has a large outside dining area. For us, we really only need a home base for sleeping and breakfast, and the smaller area meant less running around chasing down our toddler.
I hope everyone else enjoys the apartment as much as we did!
Ciao,
Laura -

Location perfect and facilities just right, what really distinguishes this apartment is the care and attention of the owners, Laurie and Norma. British ex-pats but now long time residents of the town they know everything there is to know, and everyone who matters, in town. If you ever need more information and hints on what, when and where than is already provided on arrival (after lift from station for those who need it) they are more than happy to provide it. Mention you are staying with Norma gets you an even warmer welcome than usual just about anywhere around town. Ensuring their guests really enjoy their Spoleto stay (which isn't that difficult, it's a gorgeous town) is clearly something they take enormous pride in. 5 star service at 2 star prices. I stayed for four weeks. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else if I returned.

Bella Due is an adorable apartment in a perfect location- at a great price.
Spoleto is an incredible town and, as advertised, a perfect home base for exploring the many hill towns of Umbria.
We had a car for half of our visit, and travelled by train for the other. Walking to the train station is very convenient from Bella Due.
This was our fourth apartment rental in Italy- and the orientation and personal service was the best of all experiences .We would love to visit again!

We arrived on the 13th July. where do I start? the welcome from Laurie and Norma, the apartment with balcony and terrace, the views, the town? exactly what we were looking for , so glad we had booked the full week and regretted having to leave at the end of it. The trips to the mountain villa with swimming pool and lunch cooked by Chef Leonardo were the icing on the cake. the apartment is well appointed in the town and has everything needed for a relaxing stay in this beautiful town. dine in or out... it's your choice. good advice left in the apartment fr walks, trips, shops, resturants etc. Laurie was very helpful throughout our stay- he and Norma are a delightful couple who made a big difference to the week we stayed there. Would go back in an instant. Thanks again to you both. D & E Jones

San FranciscoComfortable place to stay in great location
Left on 07/29/2011 for a stay in June 2011
This apartment is on the fourth floor of a building on the main, pedestrian, street inside the walls of Spoleto. It is at the bottom of the hill so walking to shops and restaurants almost always involves a climb, but what do you expect in an Italian hill town! The apartment is cool and clean, with all the services advertized, although we never managed to make the network work. We were so thankful after driving through unusual spring thunderstorms to meet up with Laurie who adjusted very quickly to arrival by car from an unusual direction – to suggest an easy meeting point at a supermarket on our entrance road that allowed us to stock up on some supplies. Laurie guided us to the apartment swiftly and smoothly and was very patient and expert in explaining the elevators (so good that the apartment has an elevator!), keys, entrances etc. so we could feel the apartment was our home for the week. We then found the kitchen had bread, milk, olive oil, cheese, butter, spaghetti, tomatoes – practically all we needed for at least one if not two meals. This wasn’t our first day of being in Italy so we were very thankful there was a washing machine in our apartment – maybe it had some drying mechanism too but we were happy to hang our clothes out, Italian fashion, on the back balcony which was sunny (when it wasn’t raining!), but not really large enough to sit on. There is an outdoor eating area shown on the photo of the entrance to the apartment, but it is by the elevator and part of the access to two other apartments so we didn’t use it much. We were three adults in the apartment but the layout was such that we never stepped over each other. We already had our excursions planned – but the apartment had books and local maps to hand, including Laurie and Norma’s list of recommended restaurants in Spoleto compiled of their own and their guests’ experiences – the suggestions were invaluable. Laurie and Norma were wonderful hosts and though we didn’t have any emergencies we always felt they would have been available if we needed them. Thanks so much to Norma and Laurie for making our vacation easy, comfortable and enjoyable. The only slight drawback – they don’t take credit cards so you have to work out some alternative method of payment.

We were fortunate enough to rent the Bella Due apartment for one week and were very pleasantly surprised by all that Spoleto has to offer. In fact Umbria in general is so lovely and much less of a "tourist trap" than its nearby cousin Tuscany. We would recommend this apartment and Umbria Holiday Rentals 100% to anyone thinking of travelling here. The service and help we received from Norma and Laurie was second to none, which helped make our experience all the more enjoyable. Overall we would highly recommend this destination to anyone.

Norma and Lauri were fantastically supportive from start to finish, their initial paperwork super efficient, Lauri's meeting on site warm and welcoming. The apartment was lovely and comfortable and the location was fantastic. Umbria was a revelation. I had never been here before and was totally bowled over by everything. The countryside was beautiful with unexpectedly fantastic autumn colours giving New England a run for its money, food was so delicious both of us will have to diet for months to get the weight off again, people unbelievably friendly and welcoming and easy to get along with even considering my poor Italian. Most of the people we bumped into were happy to communicate with hands and feet and many even spoke English, smiles were never lacking. We are already planning our next stay and will certainly recommend the area to everybody and will not hesitate to mention Umbria Holiday Rental. Apart from just the tiniest, picky, (on our part) criticism we could not fault it. Thank you for everything, we'll be back!

Left on 09/27/2010 for a stay in September 2010
The apartment was very comfortable and roomy. Unfortunately no real outdoor table which would have been nice for alfresco dining. When windows and doors closed apartment could be dark. The shower needs to be improved as the shower head had to be hand held as holder broken and not convenient to have a bath all the time. Kitchen somewhat restricted but serviceable. Directions for the washing machine needed to be in English but we managed somehow. Other than that - a great place to stay and very convenient to everything. The hosts were very helpful and provided everything that we needed.
