Description from the owner

If you are looking for a waterfront cottage just 45 feet from Seal Harbor, with a magnificent southern exposure that includes a busy fishing harbor, the open Atlantic Ocean and numerous protective islands then perhaps you should consider this two bedroom classic Maine Coast waterfront cottage.

You could just quietly sit, relax and watch an ever-changing stream of fishing boats, sunrises, lobster boats, coastal windjammers, sunsets, sailing boats, moonrises, kayaks, seals and seabirds, all from a comfortable chair by a window.

Or... you should really get outside the cottage and experience the coast of Maine in person. There are p...Read more

      Peaceful and relaxing

Left on 10/04/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My friend and I really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was clean and cozy and the location right on the water was beautiful. The owners provided a lot of information on things to do in the area which was helpful. We really liked cooking our own lobsters which we bought right down the street at Maine Lobster Co. We went to Sweetgrass Winery and Distillery, took a sail on the schooner appledore, and visisted Marshall Point lighthouse just to name a few things we did. We explored the whole area and there is so much to see and do. We would definetly come back, the Maine scenery is breathtaking! Thanks anita and Peter for a wonderful homebase.

Do we have to go home?

Left on 09/24/2011 for a stay in August 2011

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Spruce Head Island, Maine at Sprucy Cottage. The location is perfect, right on Seal Harbor, yet close enough to Rockland for easy access to restaurants, museums, etc. The area is very quiet and peaceful, with a fleet of lobster boats moored directly in front of the cottage. Every day brought a different view of the bay, bright sunshine, gloomy fog (which I love), incredible sunsets.

The cottage is comfortable, spacious, and well equipped. The owners are very friendly and hospitable and did everything thing they could to make our stay enjoyable.

      We will be back!

Left on 08/08/2011 for a stay in August 2010

This was my second visit to Sprucy. I absolutely adore this cottage. It's close to wonderful Maine towns but also extremely quiet and peaceful. Right on the water, it's an absolutely gorgeous little spot. Never in my life have I seen stars like I've seen sprawled on the picnic table on my back late at night (I left my star chart behind for the next intrepid explorers!) You awake with the lobstermen; you drift to sleep with cool ocean breezes. On my second visit, even though Maine was experiencing an incredible near-100-degree heat wave, Sprucy remained breezy, cool, and peaceful - a perfect escape from the mideastern seabooard. Our hosts could not have been more accommodating or helpful; they even called to check in about our comfort in the heat. I have taken some of my favorite photos from the adirondacks out back; I have had some of my favorite experiences in Rockland and Camden. When you come, do not skip Waterman's Beach Lobster. Make reservation super early for Primo (on OpenTable.com at last check) just at the edge of town. One of the best meals of our lives. Go kayaking; go walk to the lighthouse; dip in the icy ocean waters by Owl's Head. We will be back. Many, many times.

A little piece of heaven on earth.

Left on 08/05/2011 for a stay in September 2010

We have visited Sprucy for twelve consecutive years. We look forward to the quiet, peaceful beauty of Sprucy all year long. It is truly the most relaxing place we know of. It is a step back in time away from the busy city life we experience everyday. Come with no agenda and plan as you go. There are boat trips, shopping experiences, hiking, museums, and art, art, art! Food is great in all of the nearby towns. Best lobster ever just across the street for Sprucy and you can easily cook your own.

Enjoyed the cottage, weather, water and food.

Left on 07/31/2011 for a stay in August 2010

We enjoyed it all! This was our first Maine stay, and we loved the area, the access to all there is to explore, and relished coming back to the solitude the cottage provided. It is so different from our home in the high desert on the east slope of the Sierra Nevada, and we can't wait to return to see more. We loved the friendliness of Mainers, and the food is heavenly. Loved watching the lobster boats return with their catch to the business nearby. Can't wait to return.

A wonderful cottage on the water

Left on 07/26/2011 for a stay in August 2009

We arrived to find flowers on the table and a welcome note with useful information. The view from the cottage--right on the water, was wonderful. I drove to the end of the street and bought 2 huge lobsters right off the boat one afternoon--enjoyed cooking dinner in the well-equipped kitchen. The cottage was cute, clean, and comfortable. Our stay at "Sprucy" will remain one of our fondest memories.

Peaceful, Picturesque Cottage on Maine Coast

Left on 07/25/2011 for a stay in August 2010

If you are looking for a relaxing cottage off the beaten path, Sprucy delivers. Suitable for a couple who like sitting by the water watching the lobstermen go in and out of the cove and adjacent lobster pound, Sprucy is a small but cozy vacation rental. If you need to stay connected, Sprucy has Internet access and a small TV. Dining, theatre, museums and shopping are all within a 30-40 minute drive to Rockland, Rockport and Camden.

      Hidden Paradise

Left on 07/20/2011 for a stay in August 2010

I stayed at this house with two other friends during the Lobster Festival in august of 2010. The house was in a perfect location to get to town, but yet far enough away to enjoy peace and quite with a beautiful view of the ocean. There are a ton of things to do and see while vacationing in Maine, but we found it very hard to leave the house and the view on a regular basis. Also, it is right next door to the atwood Lobster Company. There was nothing better than getting fresh lobster right off the boat, cooking it for dinner, and then eating outside by the ocean. I was reluctant to write this review because I would like to keep this house a secret for myself - but thought other people in the world should enjoy it as well. I will definitely go back to Maine again, and when I do I will stay here. Thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise!

      What a view!

Left on 07/20/2011 for a stay in August 2010

We were lucky enough to experience the full moon over the harbor, what a sight. The cottage is very clean, and with the picture windows facing the harbor, you could enjoy the view inside or outside. I've seen most of the us, and Midcoast Maine is one of the most picturesque places to visit, and I thought Sprucy's view was one of the best. Sprucy is also close to shopping, sight seeing, restuarants, and several, very quaint, small towns. I hope to visit again someday...it was sure hard to leave.

      Midcoast Maine at its best.

Left on 07/17/2011 for a stay in October 2010

A stay at Sprucy allows one to experience all the authentic flavors of a working lobster harbor while staying in a charming, comfortable, clean and well supplied cottage. The cottage is located right on the harbor so the views ars spectacular and that includes seeing working lobster boats coming and going.
The cottage is located a very convenient distance from Rockland and Camden, so there is as much or as little to do as you like depending on your preference.
A stay at Sprucy is getting away at its best!!

"Sprucy, Where Wonderful Childhood Memories are Made"

Left on 07/16/2011 for a stay in August 2010

We spent many summer vacations at Sprucy watching our boys grow each year from children to young men. Each summer it was like returning home to the cozy cottage with the best Maine atmopshere you will find. Sprucy gave us so many wonderful memories to look back on. One summer we each painted our own version of the Bay looking out from Sprucy and have the collection of framed artwork hanging in our home. I cannot say enough about the location, the local Maine seafood or the friendly people we have come to know over the years. You will not visit Sprucy just once!

Quaint Seaside Cottage Captures Maine ambience

Left on 07/13/2011 for a stay in October 2010

The rugged fieldstone fireplace that overwhelms, the spectacular ocean view that mesmerizes, the neighboring lobstering activities that intrigue and the personal touches that provide comfort: this is the place that we have returned to every Fall for the past 10 years to fulfill our longing for the Maine Coast. This unique and comfortable cottage is nestled on tiny Spruce Head Island, away from town traffic but close enough to take in the wonderful area sites and activities as well as superb seafood. The cottage is fully equipped and includes special amenities such as books and magazines about the area, a host of fun games, a cozy outdoor firepit and everything you need to cook your own lobster feast, with fresh lobster available just a few doors away. The Sandefurs have created a true gem in this cottage with its decor and ambience that bring to mind coastal living of yesteryear. We can't wait to return!
