Description from the owner
Here in the First Arrondissement - the historic and geographic heart of Paris, we have just renovated two lovely apartments! The building used to be home to a Duke who held a weekly salon always attended by Benjamin Franklin, when he was ambassador to France. We have taken the ground floor space - facing the street and courtyard - and made a charming one bedroom apartment with a mezzanine, and an attached studio apartment. They can be rented separately or together.

We were first-time Vrbo users, and it was our first trip to France. Chose apt rental because of outstanding price and ability to cook if we wanted, as well as stay in a neighborhood away from the tourist fare. Whether she likes it or not, Naomi is now part of our family. She works extremely hard to make sure the apartment is above par for each guest. We found out that Naomi is an architect and completely refurbished this apartment and it's perfect because she preserved the true antique look and feel but upgraded the bathroom and kitchen amenities. I expected the Paris accommodations I read about when prepping for the trip, like a drippy version of a shower, tight space, etc. But the shower is great, footed tub is classic, efficient kitchen, washer/dryer fun to figure out, sleeping loft is spacious (best for kids under 5'6" though). We found our way around, metro very convenient, perfect location for Louvre, Opera, Tuileries, walking, shopping, etc. We loved our apartment. We did miss our beds at home; found that extra-firm mattresses are the rule in France.

Ben Franklins Salon is beautifully furnished with almost new amenities and appliances. We were 3 blocks from the Opera and a similar distance to Rue Rivoli; in between 2 Metro stations and yet we were not disturbed by street noise. In fact it was very peaceful if a little dark. This is because we chose to keep the curtains closed for privacy but that might not be an issue for other travellers. The television did not work for the entire 8-day stay but we were so tired after walking around Paris and the galleries that we really didn't mind. Wi-fi was freely available and the unit was very warm and comfortable. Our hostess was readily available and helpful whenever we had questions.

Needs improvement
Left on 01/03/2012 for a stay in December 2011
Whilst superbly located within walking distance of the Louvre, Jardin de Tuileries, Musee d'Orsay, Opera, etc this apartment could do with some improvement. We stayed one week with a family of 4 although the loft space is really not suitable as there is very limited headspace, making the apartment only really suitable for couples.
Cleanliness left something to be desired, bathroom walls rough hewn stone blocks not being conducive to hygiene. Noise from constant access by other residents in the building through all hours of the night lead to very limited sleep on the first night. This only improved marginally after we said something about the lack of privacy from the inadequate curtains and also faulty heater. Noise coming straight through the wooden floors from apartment above did not abate.
Little touches encountered elsewhere in our travels were lacking - toiletries, coat hooks, welcoming drinking water, milk for tea/coffee.
A more professional approach would be an improvement although Naomi was pleasant enough to deal with.Response from Naomi Benamy - 01/13/2012

I must confess I had had no idea, and am very sorry that you were not fully satisfied with the accommodations! I am left nonplussed - there are toiletries in the bathroom cabinet, hooks on the back of the door, a coat closet in the living room, a Brita water filter in the refrigerator; OK - no milk, since that spoils and I couldn't imagine stocking non-dairy creamer. I am, however, right in the building and always ask that you tell me immediately if you need anything. I have supplied medicines, drinks, even hard-to-find-in-Paris items like oatmeal and peanut butter, when people have asked.
There was always plenty of heat - while one of the fixed units was not working properly, there were additional units in every room, all perfectly functioning and individually controlled.
The windows have just been changed - while they had been single pane glass, they are now sound and thermal isolated double pane windows.
As we make clear, the mezzanine is a low-ceiling crawl space which requires some agility to use, but it's a great space for kids or young adults. It is also not child-proof, so I do not recommend it for children younger than about six.
And lastly - I am saddest of all to hear that the stone wall in the bathroom was a problem for you! We worked so hard to expose that wall during the renovation and to seal it against humidity. For me, it absolutely makes the space special.
For everyone, and always - I do ask that you come to me with any problems, any questions, any anything - this is my work. Sometimes, things may come up that I cannot fix entirely, but I will always do my absolute utmost. This is your vacation; I do want you to thoroughly enjoy it!

La Crescenta, CASpacious one bedroom, ideally located
Left on 06/22/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We loved our stay in the Ben Franklin Salon. The unit is composed of a roomy living area with a fully outfitted kitchenette on one side, a very roomy bathroom and large bedroom. There is also a half-height loft with a double bed.
There were three of us, I, my wife and my college-age daughter staying in the apartment and we felt right at home. The apartment was so spacious that we never felt constrained or awkward in moving around. There were enough chairs and other seating for us and guests. The washing machine/dryer unit was also a huge help as was the free wi-fi.
The apartment is on the street level of a very old building just a half block off the avenue de l'Opera and the Pyramides Metro stop, only a few blocks above the Louvre and a few blocks below the department stores on the Boulevard Haussman. It sits between the Place Vendome and the Palais Royal. In other words, it is extremely convenient to the major attractions in the 1st arondissement.
We truly enjoyed our stay in this apartment and highly recommend it. If you stay there, be sure to go to Julien's, an excellent little bakery around the corner on the Petits Champs. We also enjoyed the excellent bistro, Le Vaudeville, not too far away near the old Paris Bourse. Also recommended and very close is the very simple restaurant, Au Petit Bar, a family restaurant featuring one dish only every evening, but lovingly prepared and very economical.
