28970Lovely escape close to DC
Left on 03/02/2012 for a stay in February 2012
My husband and I rented this house with our 4-month old, plus two other couples and their 4-month olds for a long off-season weekend. It was a nutty idea as none of us slept. This house was perfect. We could all relax together in the spaciouls living room, kithcen, and dining room. The landscape was lovely to wake up to each day and it even snowed during this warm winter. Alton couldn't have been more accomodating. He made our stay great. We had plans of going into the park or down to Charlottesville, but ended up never leaving the property except to walk around. Would highly recommend.

Owner
Thanks, Kathy! Our guests enjoy our three vacation rentals year round: winter with the breath-taking vistas and cozy fireplaces; spring with the vivid landscapes and hikes; summer with the pool and ponds; fall with the spectacular, colors of foliage. Our farms comprise almost 300 acres with ponds and streams to explore and miniature horses to enjoy. There are over five miles of private trails. We are less than a 15 minute drive from the Swift Run Gap entrance to the Shenandoah Nation Park, Skyline and Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Appalachian Trail. We are convenient to historic sites such as Monticello, Montpelier, Ash Lawn and University of Virginia. We are near a number of excellent wineries nearby. . Please do visit our website for more information and to view the "What our guests say" page. Your host, Ambassador Alton Keel

Alexandria, VAOur favorite escape
Left on 04/18/2010 for a stay in August 2009
Our experience renting at Fairhill Farm is a five star experience in every
way! The view is spectacular. You can't help but relax just driving up to the
house. There are ponies to greet you in the morning and porches to watch
the sunset. The homes' amenities (we stay at Carrie's Cottage or High Fields
Farm) are very thoughtful - the kitchens are well equipped for family
cooking and entertaining; family/living rooms are comfortable and
equipped with games and reading material about the area - day trips and
history; hammocks to relax and read a book. Our favorite things to do on
the property - hiking. picnics with perfect views, feeding ponies, and taking
a swim (in summer). Our favorite things to do in the area - visit local
historic sites (Monticello, Montpellier, UVA), visit nearby vineyards, fun
shopping and good eats in Charlottesville.
Alton could not be a more attentive host!
We intend to rent again and again... -

Tulsa, OklahomaFairhill Farm......The Perfect Place for Families!
Left on 04/12/2010 for a stay in November 2009
Our children and grandchildren live in the Stanardsville area and we wanted
to visit with them but not inconvenience them in any way. With two sons
and wives, four grandchildren, their great grandpa and us, we had to find
something more than a hotel, something much bigger and open.
After cruising the internet, I found the incredible Fairhill Farm to rent. It
was perfect! Open kitchen and dining room made entertaining all thirteen
people so very easy. Kitchen was equipped well for cooking and large
dining table was perfect for eating and playing those board games. The
bedrooms are all large and very comfortable.
The property is absolutely beautiful with rolling hills complete with deer
who visited daily. We even had snow so the fireplace came in handy.
The Farm is about 30 minutes from the kids but it was well worth the drive.
We want to go back in the summer and enjoy more hours of daylight to get
in more hiking and then enjoy the pool.
Thank you to Alton Keel for such a beautiful home to visit! We'll be back! -

Sterling, VAStressful weeks and relaxing weekend
Left on 03/11/2010 for a stay in February 2010
After several stressful weeks I decided to surprise my husband on Valentine's weekend to a little get-away. I stumbled upon Fairhill Farm on the internet and decided to call for information and ended up booking a stay. We arrived and had no issues getting in and finding our way around. Everything was simple, easy, relaxing, and enjoyable.
The location and house was peaceful and we highly recommend Carrie's cottage for a couple, or family. The hosts were gracious and we will be returning for sure! -

Chevy Chase, MDGreat family experience
Left on 03/11/2010 for a stay in August 2009
Our family of four (2 adults, 2 young kids) has stayed in Carrie's Cottage at Fairhill Farm for five summers in a row, and we look forward to our trip back every year. The cottage is clean and bright and very comfortably furnished. It was completely renovated a few years ago, so the bathroom and kitchen are modern and spacious. The farm is lovely and very peaceful, and has incredible views of the Shenandoah Mountains from many spots. There's lots to do on the farm--hiking, feeding the miniature horses, swimming in the gorgeous pool--as well as in the Charlottesville/Orange County area. Alton is a wonderful host and can give you lots of information about the area.

Philadelphia, PABeautiful, relaxing farmhouse
Left on 03/11/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We rented the farmhouse at Highfields Farm for Valentine's Day weekend
2010. It was a pleasure working with the property manager, Alton Keel, Jr. to
reserve this weekend. We arrived at the home to find a plowed driveway (after
many feet of snow), lights on in the home and classical music playing from the
living room. There was a bottle of champaign and a box of chocolates on the
kitchen counter, which was just wonderful. The farmhouse has an amazing,
open floor plan so that you can see 365 degree views of the surrounding
farmland from almost every room. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in, and
we ate our meals in the dining room next to the gas fireplace. We would love
to gather our family at Highfields Farm for Christmas because it would provide
a great space for multiple families to get together in a warm, inviting, spacious
home.
