It is the oldest town in Europe.Stari Grad is situated in the northwestern part of the island in a deep and protected bay, which is a safe shelter for boating people.The town of ancient times and cultural heritage was known as the Greek Pharos, and it is believed to be the oldest town in Europe. The Tvrdalj is the most prominent building in the town, which was a home of the famous local poet Petar Hektorović. Today, Stari Grad is a modern tourist resort. Hotels, apartments, bungalows, traditional dishes, especially fish dishes, famous Hvar wines, various possibilities of sport and recreation, bring visitors to this part of the Adriatic, chosen by the Greeks in the ancient times.
In summertime many cultural and sport events are organized: Starogradsko ljeto, concerts,recitals,entertainments, International music summer school, and Faros marathon-Croatian international championship in long distance swimming.

We were lucky enough to enjoy the hospitality of Fanita & Ivica during a family trip to Starigrad in September.
Having previously visited Starigrad and stayed in a hotel, we knew that an appartment would be a better option for our visit for our extended family group (needing 4 bedrooms) but what we had counted on was the personal touch and wonderful hospitality of Fanita & Ivica, who made the trip truly memorable.
From first contact with Fanita, her cheerful, bright and helpful nature was apparent, and during our stay they both went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great stay. Fanita met us at the ferry, and happily made multiple trips to get us all back to the house, and we shared many happy chats, glasses of wine and sampled Fanita's great cooking. They were happy to share their local knowledge of restuarants, destinations, transport, taxis (definately take her recommendation for Robert the Fabulous Taxi Driver) and even help with 'interpretor services' when we needed some help. (Their english is great, and their were no communication issues).
Their home is in the 'new' part of Starigrad. It is well located for an easy walk into the centre of town, and the appartments are separated into two appartments, each with 2 bedrooms, a self-contained kitchen and small dining table, good sized bathroom, and a lovely veranda with views over the garden with grape vines and pomegranate trees.
By the time we left, we felt like we were leaving friends - thank you Fanita and Ivica for making our visit special, and we look forward to staying with you again when we are back in Starigrad!Response from Fanita Repanic - 03/05/2013

We had a wonderful holiday in Starigrad staying at apartmani Hvar
with our hosts Fanita & Ivica Repanic .
We had travelled from australia with our adult son & daughter & family .
Fanita met us at the ferry terminal & drove our daughter &family; , loaded
with luggage , up to the apartments & then came back to collect us .
She wouldn't hear of us taking a taxi. .
The two apartments were spotlessly clean & each bring if two bedrooms
gave us plenty of space. .Each had a kitchen which was handy & we also enjoyed sitting out on the balcony .
The apartments are located a convenient 7 to 10 minute walk into the centre of
town & the picturesque Starigrad port .
Starigrad is beautiful. , the people are friendly , the water sparkles & there are many lovely little restaurants to eat at .
Our hosts spoke good English , knew all about the town & Island of Hvar , happily helped our son hire a scooter & recommended various things for us to see& do .
They became an important part of our holiday & we looked forward to spending
time with them every day .and as a bonus the home made wine was very , very good !!!
We highly recommend this home style accommodation with the friendly hosts who couldn't do enough for us .
We will definately return. .

The owner of this place is a wonderful Lady who did her utmost to ensure we had a great stay. We arrived in Hvar unexpectedly a day early because of a mix up with dates: Fanita managed to meet us at the ferry terminal (after having to sail to Hvar from Vis a day early - apparently at break-neck speed) and put us up in two lovely rooms in her own apartment until our apartment was ready the next day.
The apartment was in excellent condition and very clean. With two kids (aged 7 and 4) we found the walk into town entirely manageable. The children enjoyed the beaches (which were not overly crowded), and especially renting a motor boat to explore many of the gorgeous coves in the area. They also loved the trampoline park which allowed them to burn of excess energy before dinner. We found the restaurants in Stari Grad to be excellent (especially Jurin Podrum and Giardin).
Stari Grad is a lovely place, and it's not geared exclusively to tourists, which makes it laid back and somehow more authenitc. We loved it and would return again in a heartbeat. -

Thank you to Fanita, who went the 'extra mile' to ensure we had a lovely holiday. The apartment was clean and functional and in walking distance from the beautiful harbour. There is a supermarket and lots of beautiful shops and fantastic restaurants to choose from in the town. The nearby beach was beautiul and a safe place for the children to play.

We spent 12 nights in Fanita's 2 bedroom apartment and enjoyed every minute. Despite being a 5 minute walk to the shops and restaurants this is a very quiet location. Like all the other apartments on offer in the town it's in the middle of other houses so the view is partly of other gardens and houses but you can see down into the town and the neighbours are unbelievably quiet. This place is also quite high up (only one row of houses above it) so the views are better than most.
Good shower and private balcony are two features we particularly enjoyed.
Fanita and her husband Ivica are lovely people and can't do enough for their guests. They live upstairs from the two apartments so are often on hand to offer advice and help.
The food, the wine - all outstanding!
There's ample cooking fcailities in the apartment and a communal outdoor barbeque and eating area with seating for 8 too.
We loved it there and enjoyed a relaxing stay - we will definately be back - many thanks to Fanita and Ivica. See you again soon!! -

First of all I would like to say it was difficult to find an accommodation for 8 people prior to our arrival to Hvar as we left it on very last moment.
I found Fanita's place online. At that time, she had only one apartment available for 4 people, and was helping me to find another apartment around her neighbours, but with no luck. And then Fanita came up with an idea that the remaining 4 members of our team could stay in her own apartment upstairs! Perfect solution so we stayed all together.
Fanita and her husband Ivica came to pick us up to the local airport (yes we arrived by plane), we received a great welcome with plenty of drinks and tour around the island.
My cousin had birthday during out stay and Fanita with Ivica prepared amazing dinner! What a surprise when a birthday cake appear too!!
We absolutely loved their homemade cherry drink, which we completely finished. Sorry to those of you, who were visiting after us ?
The location of the apartment is convenient - very close to the town centre and to the nearby beach - with our favourite café place...the view was stunning (you could see the whole harbour) and so as the beer!
Oh and not to forget - we spent one day on the sailing boat with Ivica. Amazing experience!
The last day Fanita prepared breakfast for all of us, which was very nice and again took us to the airport.
If you are thinking of staying in this place, you will not regret it at all!! You will feel like at home!!

If you like to eat fresh fish, drink nice vine and other local food there is place for you. Owner will prepare it for you for only 25eu/person..

Beautiful vacation!the place is enchanting, the house is clean,very nice and faithful to photos seen on internet.Fanita has been a generous and very nice owner!!!the sea is beautiful and the centre is connected very well with hvar!!!Perhaps the only defect is the centre of stari grad that is little animated in the evening!We will return surely there!!!

The apartment is very comfortable, perfectly clean and tidy. Stari Grad is a wonderful little place that is rich with history and beautiful nature. What I liked most is the hospitality. With family Repani? I felt like I was in my house. For all that we needed them we were at the service. For us, they would prepare dinner with so much love from domestic products. The taste of their food, believe me, you can not experience in restaurants. They are joyful and full of humor. They have a beautiful boat with which we went on trips to neighboring islands. Swimming, sunbathing and again by their good food. Through them we really know Hvar and their way of life.
In a word, beautiful place, very good apartment and perfect host!
