We had a great stay. With 4 adults and 3 kids, I was a little concerned about space, but this apt worked out beautifully. The owner was very helpful in showing us where to find the bus stops and nearby restaurants, all within just a few blocks. Taking the ferry into NYC was very convenient and we never had to wait for more than 15 minutes for the bus or ferry. I would highly recommend this rental.

The only disappointment we had was not being able to walk along the beach, this was due to ongoing work being done after hurricane Sandy. It looked beautiful sand... The accommodation was warm and very spacious with everything you needed, even down to toilet rolls. There were plenty of cups, plates etc and lots of towels. Marina, the owner, couldn't do enough for us, she gave detailed instructions on where to catch the bus, where to eat and where to buy food. We all had a brilliant time visiting New York...which helped in the knowledge that we were coming back to lovely, clean accommodation every day. Thanks Marina...

My family spend almost a week at Marina's house when visiting NY from Denmark. They were very exited and happy with the house and the location is very good for trips to either the beach or to the city. The house was neet and clean and everything worked and Marina was very helpful, and even left a cell phone so they could call her if they had questions. This house is definitely recommended for trips to NY and very reasonably priced.

All from the start when the Marina, the proprietor, was contacted there was an excellent level of servicemindedness, helpfulness and understanding. Perfect communication and instructions how to proceed all along. The appartment was very nice, clean and light. With three large bedrooms, there was room for our family of six. Two bathrooms, and a well equipped kitchen also made the stay a very good experience. For a longer stay there are washing possibilities nearby in a laundromat. Restaurants and deli is close by on walking distance. The only minor bad thing was the Staten Island Ferry. You should on your way back try to hit the departing times or else the whole trip back from Manhattan (subway, ferry, bus) may be somewhat lengthy. On the same time, the Staten Island Ferry was a great way to get into Manhattan, passing the Statue of Liberty and allowing you good views of lower Manhattan, the Bronx and the Hudson river.
Marina is wonderful. Whatever problem or question you may have she'll try to solve it for you. Excellent service and information. During summer I guess the appartment has a perfect location for a mix of city life and beach life. Highly recommended.Response from Marina - 04/04/2013

Dear guys,
It was great pleasure meeting your family. Hope to see you back here in summer time to enjoy the beach too. As to ferry/bus transfer, Their schedules are synchronized, By the time of ferry arrival all local buses are already waiting for its passengers. You have to follow signs to S51 bus without any delay. If you miss the bus which is already there by your arrival (there are several little cafes and stores at the terminal which might catch your attention) you will have to wait for the next one for about 20 min (if not at rush hours). That's what probably happened in your case. -

Left on 01/05/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We stayed here for a week over Xmas 2012. the apartment was lovely. Very spacious for 5 of us - the kitchen/dining area is great and the living room is airy and light.
The bedrooms, especially the master, have loads of storage space.
Marina was lovely and gave us all the info we needed on our arrival. We would definitely recommend staying here as a cheap alternative to staying in Manhattan. 10 minute drive to the Ferry and they run every 15 mins/30 mins. And you get great views of SoL, Ellis and Manhattan skyline from the ferry crosing.
(Note: Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty are currently closed due to Sandy)

We rented marina property in the last few days before our arrival to NYC, she respond immediately with clear contract.
The property accommodate us 5 brothers and sesters and my parents. Upon arrival It was ready and marina welcomed us and gave us 2 keys and nice paper of all the information we need ( address, vaction rental phone, bus route from staten island to. She also toke us to shope rite ( grocery store) with her car (free) and gave us her discount card to buy what we need.
When Sandy was expected she offered to move us to her parent house (free) to provide a place of safety. Since we 7 adults and we like the house we chosed to stay and see Sandy. Which was not the smartest decision but I can say this. Her house stranded tall when the see tie covered the first floor and the wend speed reached 90 mph. We stayed in the upper appartment not a single drope of water came inside and the electricity came back in less than 48 hours. In addition she provide 2 cars to take us to the airport (free).
Thank you marina, hope you repair your house soon, and we will rent your place againResponse from Marina - 12/01/2012

My dear guys,
I was absolutely sure you stayed in Manhattan hotel like you told me until I read your review!!! I'm terrified: you could die there. Dear travelers, your safety comes first. I'm flattered you liked my house, but believe me it's better be safe than sorry. I would never ever let you stay if I knew... Please, everybody, we cannot do anything against forces of nature. If local authorities announce mandatory evacuation, you have no other choice but comply. I did my best to offer you much more comfortable accommodations than public shelter. My aged parents kindly offered their 2 bedroom apartment in the safe area. I'm in the process of rebuilding of my 1st floor. Although I lost all my personal belongings and business (they both were on the ground floor of the same house), I consider myself really lucky: I am alive. I will rebuild soon, everything is replaceable accept human life. -

Left on 07/24/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Ideal for a large family. The appartment was roomy, comfortable and well equipped. It felt just like home. We travelled with two kids aged 7 and 2 and they loved the place. The large flat screen TV and DVD in the living room also helped. There is a lovely big kitchen and dining room table that can easily fit up to eight persons (perfect for planning the day ahead)
We did not mind the 30 minutes ferry ride to Manhattan and looked forward to returning to the appartment after a long day visiting the sights in NYC.
Thank you Marina for a lovely stay. You were a gracious host, we will certainly come back. -

St. Louis, Missourireally nice property, quiet retreat from Manhattan
Left on 06/10/2012 for a stay in June 2012
If you're looking for a quick trip into Manhattan, this place isn't for you. It's 1 hour away from downtown and 1-1/2 hours from midtown. So if you're not afraid of its bedbug infestation & ridiculous prices, then stay in manhattan.
However, if you want to be away from the city when you're done seeing the sights, then this place is for you! I can't recommend it enough. It's quiet & we never felt unsafe, even walking late at night.
The house is beautiful and its location across the street from the bus stop, boardwalk & beach is great. It isn't exactly convenient for "stepping out" for a bite to eat since there's only 1 restaurant within walking distance, but if you have a car then you won't have a problem.
On the first day of your stay, Marina takes you to the grocery store to stock up on food so take advantage of that. Her kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook meals.
I kept my expectations low so i'd be prepared for the worst. My jaw dropped upon entering the house and my smile kept getting bigger as we walked through the rest of the rooms. The kids were giddy with excitement and i accepted lots of praise for choosing such an "awesome" place. It was perfect for our family of 3 adults & 2 teenagers. For all the space you get, it's very reasonably priced.
Marina is a gracious hostess and helped with all our questions. We appreciated the fact that she lives just downstairs.
We didn't have hot enough weather to enjoy the beach but if it's hot enough then you'll appreciate having it across the street. The boardwalk is very nice and you'll see lots of moms pushing strollers. The neighborhood is peaceful and family-friendly.
You will have no regrets staying on this property. Yes, you're giving up the convenience of being in Manhattan but you're gaining all the wonderful amenities of not being in Manhattan, if you know what i mean.

Dear guys,
Thanks for everything, it was great pleasure meeting you wonderful family. I'm very upset you starved in the middle of food paradise. There are 5 different restaurants within 5-7 min walk from home: Italian-American Seafood, Chinese, Turkish, Russian, Mexican plus a beach cafe with fast food. I did mention all of them at your check in, but probably it was lost in the information stream. Hope you will have another chance to taste all local restaurants. I also highly recommend to use direct X-buses to Manhattan. It takes 22 min to Downtown and 40 min to Midtown. But you have to be at the bus stop across the street from home before 9:30 a.m. If you prefer to sleep longer, your commute to Manhattan will be longer too. Thanks for your nice and warm comments! -

I will recommend Marina's venue to the family traveller! The facilities are fully catered for and there are 3 roomy bedrooms. The bus stop is across the road with delies, restaurants and take-aways within walking distance. It is relaxing to come back to a peaceful neighbourhood after a very busy day visiting the New York sites. Taking walks on the promenade is a must! You will see Marina on the first and the last day! She will give you pointers, suggestions and a cellphone incase of emergencies.

Who can't stand to be wake up in the middle of the night by the city? This place is just a piece a quietness. Of course you take 45 minutes to get on manhattan, but you get to have the beach at 100 feet, with a wonderful sunrise! About the house, everything is perfect, it is what you need for 6, might be a little small for more. Marina is very friendly and very professional, I would go back to this house without thincking about it!

Left on 10/30/2011 for a stay in October 2011
A wonderful place to stay out of the city! We enjoyed every moment and visited New York practically every day! It is so easy to catch the Staten Island Ferry, enjoy the sights and view the New York skyline on the way.
Marina was waiting for us to arrive and is very helpful and able to advise on all the transport in the area and where to shop and eat etc. She was also able to lend us a mobile phone for our week's stay which proved invaluable when our rented car
had to be returned. We were very grateful for this.
The apartment is a perfect place to stay,
comfortable and roomy with a lovely big kitchen and table, ideal for planning days out. Wifi is freely available and we found this very useful for booking out tickets online to visit the 911 memorial and checking prices and times, also the weather!
The boardwalk just a minute away is a lovely place to exercise, walk or just enjoy the view.
We would love to return!

Very comfortable and clean apartment, was well equipped with everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Great location near a nice beach, whilst we all love Manhatten it was great to be able to get out of the city to a quieter and calmer location after a day of sightseeing. Express buses from outside the apartment excellent, a comfortable ride to and from various Manhatten locations - just need to plan your day if you want to use them as they are basically for commuters and don't run at weekends. Other easy 24 hr transport options from Staten Island to Brooklyn and Manhatten were reliable, great views from the ferry. Marina was incredibly helpful and very friendly, available if we needed her but otherwise left us to get on with our holiday undisturbed. Overall, the apartment was a very cost effective way to spend a week in New York, far cheaper and much more comfortable / sociable than spending 7 nights in hotel rooms. We would definately choose to stay in this apartment if we visit New York again. Thanks to Marina for helping us to have a great holiday.

A group of us stayed here for the weekend and what a lovely weekend it was! Marina is so helpful and so lovely, we were quite last minute in booking but she was very patient with us! She met us at the bus stop and showed us how to get to the house pointing out grocery stores and things we may need along the way. The house itself is beautiful, spacious, modern and is fully equipped with aC and all faclities you would possibly need including bedding and towels. It's also just across the road from the beach which was lovely! I would highly recommend both the house and Marina as a place to stay and a renter to deal with, thanks for a great weekend Marina!

Dear ladies,
It was pleasure having you as my guests. It's pity you did not follow my advise and did not use direct X-buses to Manhattan. Bus stop is across the street from home, and it takes 25 min to Downtown or 40 min to Midtown. It would have coasted you just $18/per week/per person more and would have saved you a lot of energy and time, especially with cold weather you experienced during your stay. All buses are riding strictly according to their schedule, and with a PC connected to the internet in the apartment, it's easy not to waste your time waiting for the bus. Even if you use local bus + ferry (24/7), it takes 40-45 min to Manhattan, of course, if you check ferry schedule (every 15-30 min) and don't arrive to the ferry terminal to see the boat just left the pier. Unfortunately, when it's cold outside, waiting time seems longer! -

Dear guys,
Your 3 stars rating for the cleanliness is just not fare. Both apartments were spotless at the time of your arrival. It's GUESTS' responsibility to maintain their apartments in a good and clean condition, unless professional cleaning service is requested during your stay ($100/visit). You left a larger apartment as a total mess and disregarded all my checkout instructions regarding recycling, linen, etc. According to our leasing agreement, I should have taken excessive cleaning fee out of your security deposit which at my good will I decided not to do, although my cleaning lady did charge me double after these guests. -

It was my first time travelling with my family and my infant niece to NY. I had no clue where to stay since I'm not familiar with the area. Places in Manhattan is very expensive and small to accomodate us. Plus parking is a nightmare there. Until I ran across Marina's home. Reading all of the past reviews, they all had a positive comments. From there, I just know I found the place. Before we arrived, Marina helped answering my questions she even called us on the day of the arrival to make sure we are fine. Her place is clean and neat. She has everything we need, we didn't have to worry. The trip to Manhattan with ferry is memorable as well. Stay at this place, you won't regret it.

we had only one week, but from the first day on the house and especially Marina, the landlady, made us at home. The house is and very clean and very well appointed so that we found all things we need.
The location is great. After a long trip, we found it very relaxing to walk some minutes on the beach, looking to the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, Brooklyn and the over the sea. Travelling to the heart of Manhattan takes indeed about 1 hour by bus (perfect: 3 minutes walk to the bus stop), staten island ferry and subway, but it was every day a nice experience, passing the statue of liberty and looking to the manhattan skyline, changing the view by different day and night times.
And to keep in mind a real highlight: Marina was always very kindly and so helpful. She provided us with all information for the journey, with hints for transportation and sightseeing which saved us money and time. She equipped us with a discount card for a local supermarket, printed out our board cards, manged at late night our transportation back to the airport ... Thanks a lot, Marina, for being more than just a host !
If we would come back again to New York in the future, it is quite sure which accommodation we will choose. -

Great stay on all dimensions:
- the landlady (Marina) is perfect, very helpfull but not intrusive - she gave us all the informations that we needed before and during our stay and she is always reachable by mail or SMS
- the house has been redecorated this spring and eveything is new: beds, bathrooms, kitchen appliances...
- bus stop is litterrally 3 minutes from the house. Depending the transport mode, it takes from 30 minutes to more than an hour to reach Manhattan. But taking the Staten Island ferry is also part of the holidays!
This is an extraordinary location for kids (many playgrounds + beach across the street) and if you like jogging (NYC equipped the sea shore with cycle tracks).
The buis network is dense and frequent: easy to shop, to visit, to wander...
If you hesitate between Manhattan and Miami, then come here :o)

It was perfect for 6 people, but I would not recommend it for 10 as said in the ad. The masterbed was very big so if you do not mind having a child in your bed this is big enough for at least one extra! The sofas in the livingroom can not be used as beds in my opinion. They are not big enough and they are made of leather. There is enough hot wather in the shower :). There are no outside area where you can e.g use a barbeque or sit down. There is a great playground for the kids right across the street towards the beach.
It is possible to buy some things around the corner, but you will need to go by car or bus to get to a regular supermarked. A small polish store had milk and bread and stuff. There was a farmasy, a hairdresser and a nailsaloon in walkingdistance (the nailsaloon was really good).
We did not rent a parking spot from Marina. She said that it was easy to park along the road. It was not! We often had to drive around several times to find a spot or to park in Marinas driveway and be ready to move it if somebody came or a spot opened in the street. We think that the parking should have been included in the rent.
We had a great stay and would rent it again if we should go back:).Response from Marina - 07/31/2010

It was a great pleasure having your family as my guests. This apartment does accommodate 10 people, if some guests sleep on the double sofa-beds in the living-room, and it's always OK with people who want to save (I charge just $100/week for each additional guest). This apartment is not being advertised as a house with a backyard and barbecue, and these guests were informed about it in my very first response. Local huge supermarket (ShopRite) is in 10 min drive, and I always offer my guests a FREE ride there by my car if they don't have one, at their arrival to do the major shopping for their stay. My office is located in the same building now, Parking spot was offered for $100/week, but it was rejected by these guests. There is no parking restrictions in the area, you can park 24/7, but if you want a comfort of having your car right at your door you'd better reserve a spot.

Atlanta, GALike taking my own home with me on vacation.
Left on 07/03/2010 for a stay in June 2010
My family (two adults, two teenage children) spent a week at Marina's three-bedroom Staten Island property. It was as though I had packed my own home in my suitcase and taken it with me. Her property is well-maintained, spacious, and near everything we needed/wanted with regard to stores and proximity to getting in and out of the City. Marina's hospitality was wonderful. We were made to feel right at home as soon as we got there. I would highly recommend this property for a family with children, or a group of adults travelling together. The rooms are large, the living areas are extremely comfortable.
Marina...we hope to come again sometime. Thank you. -

We stayed at Marinas apartment for a week in April and I would recommend it. The apartment is spacious & well equipped. It is ideally located for the public transport & shops etc. The boardwalk is just across the street with lovely views of the ocean. Marina was the perfect hostess and after showing us around the apartment she left us alone but was available if we needed anything.

Marina a pleasant and helpful Lady, has a wonderful home from which to visit the city. Marina’s apartment is great and excels at being accommodating and helpful during your stay. Comfortable and well serviced, we had everything we needed for an excellent vacation. Internet access was fantastic for planning your day.
A fantastic location, 2 minutes to the beach and promenade, an excellent place to walk and get the city out of you head. The bus runs regularly, from outside the appartment, to the free ferry a great place to view the city at night and during the day. Helpful and friendly staff & police on the boat and at the terminal. Staten Island may seem far away from Manhattan. From here you can get as quick to parts of the city as you would from the city itself, and you get a view.
My third visit to New York, I will not stay on Manhattan again, Staten Island is the place to be. A wonderful place in itself to visit, I walked over miles of it, will try it during the summer next time.
Super value for money, when next in New York I know where I will be looking to book again. What more can I write here that can give Marina and her apartment the praise that they deserve.
No more than saying. Marina, Thanks for providing us with a wonderful vacation.

We were a group of 4 women who stayed in Staten Island for a long weekend.
We arrived late at night as our drive was longer than expected and the host
was there to greet us. The accommodations were clean and spacious. We were
also very close to the Ferry which took us over to NYC right into the Financial
district. -

EssexFirst New York Trip
Left on 04/29/2010 for a stay in August 2009
Our family (2 adults + 2 teenagers) enjoyed a weeklong stay in this property. The house is very clean and comfortable and with 2 TVs and a computer there were no arguments over what to watch etc. There are small grocery stores etc and a really nice restaurant close by. The temperature outside during our stay was 90+F but the house was lovely and cool to come back to. We did not have a car and used the bus and free ferry to reach Manhattan every day where there is a choice of metro lines outside the terminal. We felt safe enough for our teenage son (16yrs) to make his own way back to the house alone. Marina was very welcoming and helpful but not intrusive.

Ideally located to explore all that Staten Island itself has to offer, the apartment is only a short walk from the beach and a 5-minute drive from the ferry to New York so you are close to the city when required but can also 'get away from it all' when desired! The apartment is part of a large house and Marina, the owner, really makes you feel at home. She is always on hand to provide directions to local attractions and restaurants etc, and to advise the ferry or bus service timetables to the mainland.

I'm happy to hear your have good memories about your stay 2 years ago. Sorry, I did not catch the moment with the ants. Usually I start spraying as soon as I see the first one even on the porch. There a lot of grass and trees around the house. So the best way to keep the ants out of the property is to keep the rear door screen closed and take the trash out daily. Unfortunately, not all the guests remember about it, and local ants just take advantage. Please, come again, no ants now!

Left on 04/28/2010 for a stay in July 2008
Marina's apartment was as billed: comfortable and private. Marina was helpful without being intrusive. The apartment was large enough for our family of five. Just across the boardwalk from the beach on Staten Island, facing Manhattan, we found that it provided respite at the end of each busy day on Manhattan. Excellent free ferry service meant we could come and go and enjoy Manhattan at half the cost. And Staten Island is a pleasant and less frantic spot. We found our children really appreciated coming back to somewhere more peaceful after sightseeing.
The foldout bed in the second bedroom was quite hard and uncomfortable, so we did have to pad it with blankets, but overall the amenities were fine.

Thank you very much for your feed back. It was pleasure having your family as my guests. I'm sorry to hear you were not comfortable with a foldout bed. This apartment accommodates up to 6 people without using foldout beds. It's pity you did not let me know about it during your stay. I would provide you with linen for the soft and very comfortable sofa-bed in the living-room. Currently I have another similar unit in the same house, which accommodates up to 10 people without using foldout beds at all. Hope to see you back in NY again!

Left on 04/22/2010 for a stay in August 2008
Our family of four spent two weeks in this spotless, very comfortable apartment which made a lovely quiet refuge to return to after days and nights exploring various parts of New York. Marina was very helpful in making sure we were comfortable and could find our way around. The free Staten Island ferry to Manhattan was just a 20/30 minute bus ride away, while the beach by the apartment was a 5 minute stroll. Highly recommended - we loved the entire trip.
