This is a good location, with express busses one can reach the manhattan in half an hour, if ou are staying for a week express plus MTa card is perfect unlimited every mode of transportation. The house is nice as well, you can cook and make some sandwiches which would also save finances. It is perfect for small families. Altough shopping is limited, Marina took us for a grocery shopping, she even give us a ride to the metro station on the way back. The location is quite and accessible.

Ipswich, UKGreat Value and Ideal for Families
Left on 03/12/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We stayed here for 2 weeks with our 10 month old son. We wanted accommodation to suit our needs which was access to a kitchen and a separate living space from the bedroom so when our son went to bed early we wouldn't have to join him. Therefore 'Resort Living' was perfect for us. We had our own kitchen and living room with plenty of space for our son to play and a separate bedroom with an en-suite. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with plenty of towels and a cleaning service after our first week. The accommodation had a telephone, wireless internet, a PC in the living room and Cable TV with films on demand.
The apartment owner Marina was fantastic, very welcoming and helpful. She went out of her way to help us to settle in which made our arrival and first days so much easier.
The location was right across the road from the sandy beach where there is a very long boardwalk/promenade. There are plenty of local restaurants and takeaways nearby, as well as all the usual amenities within a short walk. We took the local bus and the ferry into Manhattan each day which did take time, about 1 hour from our door to Manhattan's South Ferry Terminal (including waiting time). Although you can get the Express 'commuter' buses which take 22 minutes into Manhattan we were unable to do this as we had a large 3 wheeled all terrain pushchair which was too big for the express bus and is more like a coach. In hindsight we would have been fine on the express buses with a small collapsable buggy.
On the whole we enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful time exploring Manhattan. We would never have been able to afford the same quality of accommodation in Manhattan and as a more affordable option this gave us the opportunity to stay for much longer. What we liked best was spacious and comfortable apartment. What we liked least was the commute into Manhattan on the local bus.

Marina helped us always when we had questions, eg. printing something. She was very friedly. We would go there again.

Left on 09/29/2011 for a stay in September 2011
All arrangements were made with Marina by email, and she was always prompt and thorough in her replies. The house is located off a small alley, and is easy to find. The one-bedroom unit is located in the basement. All facilities are modern and well maintained, and the place is fully equipped. On-street parking is free and easy to find. The location is only a couple of hundred yards from the boardwalk and beach. If you have to go to Manhattan, but you get stressed out staying there, this may be the place for you. We loved it, and we will stay here again when we must visit the city.

Dear guys,
I'm happy you enjoyed your stay and will be happy to see you again. The only little inaccuracy in your review is that what you call "basement" is actually walk in apartment. The house is legally 3 story dwelling with no basement. -

This apartment is a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Marina is a great host, providing the best service including optional pickup/drop off at airport. The amenities are really good- from the dishwasher to the shower which was in itself made the stay worth it. It is easy to get to Manhattan and Brooklyn. The bus is right across the road.I was lucky enough to be there for some summer weather and the beach and boardwalk was a good way to relax in the late afternoon/evening. I did pay extra for the express bus, but these stop at 9.30 am to go into Manhattan. Personally it was worth it, but I did also do the local bus and Staten Island Ferry and that is also a leisurely way to commute. I will return here again. In fact I am already planning it.

Left on 05/05/2011 for a stay in April 2011
This is a nice, comfortable, appartment with everything you could need for a short stay nearby. It is well located on Staten Island - near to a nice seafood restaurant and the beach (though it was too cold for us in april to really enjoy). It is easy enough to get to Manhattan via bus and ferry, but, unless you want to get up early and take the commuter bus, it takes around 1 hour and then another 20 mins or so on the subway to get up to Central Park etc. This was fine for us, and we liked having the freedom that an appartment offers, but would perhaps not be ideal if you were only in the city for a couple of days. Marina was really helpful and very friendly.
Response from Marina - 05/05/2011
Owner
Dear guys, I'm happy you enjoyed my place. Of course, you would enjoyed it even more if you paid attention to my recommendation to use a subway (it's in 7 min bus ride from home), when you are planning to spend your day in Upper Manhattan-Central Park, etc. It would take you less than an hour to get there. If you are in New York just for a couple of days, it's a good idea to use direct X-buses (bus stop is across the street from home, they are running every 5 minutes before 9:30 a.m.) and be in Downtown Manhattan in 25 min or in Midtown in 40 minutes. New York is a huge city indeed. You cannot be very close to everything at the same time unless you can afford staying in Midtown Manhattan. If you are on a budget, want to have comfortable accommodation and see it all without spending too much time on transportation, you cannot afford sleeping till noon. Also this apartment is equipped with a PC, so you can always search on line for the best and shortest way to travel to your particular destination. And my own office is next door from your apartment, I'm always ready to answer all your questions.

We had a wonderful stay with Marina in Staten Island in this beautiful apartment. It was just my son and myself, so the place was the perfect size for us. The kitchen was perfectly equipped, clean and easy to keep clean (with a dishwasher). Bus to Manhattan is directly outside the door, so travel to and from the city was no issue at all. The apartment is as well set up as a home, so we felt very much as though we lived in New York, not that we were tourists.
The apartment is clean, warm, cozy, and has everything you could ever need.

We stayed in this apartment in November. It was absolutely perfect for our needs. It is really easy to get into Manhattan using the bus and the ferry. We didn't use an Express Bus but the standard buses were fine and were included on our Metro Cards. The ferry is free, which is fantastic! Marina, the owner, was extremely friendly and very, very helpful. She answered all my questions about the apartment in advance very promptly, met us on arrival, told us everything we needed to know and more! There was a computer in the apartment and free internet which was extremely useful. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

We were staying in New York for 7days in November and wanted an apartment away from the hustle and bustle of Manhatten. Marina's apartment on Staten Island was perfect for the 2 of us - a very clean apartment with the bus stop right outside, the beach nearby and local shops. The commute to Manhatten took 30 minutes on the Xpress bus and a little longer using the ferry. Marina was really helpful and friendly. In all, very good value for money and worth a visit!

Spacious 1 bedroom apartment. Good if you are spending all day out and about as it is essentially a basement flat with only small windows. Great to have free wifi. Good restaurants nearby - I ate a a Russian one and the Blue Fin restaurant by the sea (top notch cocktails!). Lovely views of the Verrazano Narrows bridge from the boardwalk along the shore. Looks as though you could walk for miles up and down the coast. Safe area, noted for high population of Russians and Italians (and the manager is one of those, but fine!). Helpful to have a lift to Newark airport, which is less than half an hour's drive away. High speed bus into and out of Manhattan - so long as you know where to get on and off. Take the time to print out a route map by asking Google! You need a Metro card before boarding the bus (but the driver eventually took pity on me).
I suppose what the apartment lacks is any sort of view, but if you're trying to see NY, then that's not a big deal.Response from Marina - 11/04/2010

This apartment is a ground floor walk-in with medium size windows, not small "basement" windows. There is no basement in this house, it's legally 3 story building. There is an ocean view in the duplex upstairs, also listed at this site, but true, no interesting view from this apartment. This guest was instructed to buy MetroCard before boarding the bus in the local Deli/Grocery (5 min walk from home), but probably did not pay attention to my recommendations. Unfortunately, this lady stayed just for 2 nights and did not have a chance to enjoy all the benefits of this apartment: heated flooring, 250+ cable package with 4 chs on demand, other nice restaurants in the area (Turkish, Chinese, Mexican).

i am a former new yorker. my girlfriend has never been there. so i wanted to take her and show her manhattan for a couple of days. hotels are expensive and so are vacation rentals in manhattan. plus manhattan is noisy 24/7. she especially wanted to see the statue of liberty, central park and times square.
i saw Marinas place on trip advisor, read the reviews and thought it would be ideal. and it was. we checked in and marina was right there, very pleasant and helpful. we had a car so she suggested driving to the staten island ferry and parking there for $7 (round trip bus was more than $8 for two people). so off we went...ferry statue of liberty subway times square all within two hours of checking in!
back at midnight. same thing and more the next day.
marinas place is great.modern clean and quiet. she was always available for anything we needed. we will definetely stay there again next time we come to new york -

Port Coquitlam, BC, CanadaGreat as a Home Base
Left on 10/14/2010 for a stay in October 2010
My husband and I stayed here for a week. We've been to NY many times before but had never visited Staten Island. It made for a great home base for our day trips into Brooklyn and Manhattan. My sister-in-law stayed with us for the first 4 nights and we did not feel crowded. Marina was very helpful. Thankfully we were able to check in early which was much appreciated. We found the transit to be convenient. The bus ride to the ferry is approx 20 min and the ferry ride is about 25 min so give yourself at least an hour to get anywhere meaningful in Brooklyn or Manhattan. We didn't mind the commute and found it to be part of the fun of our trip. People watching in NY is always entertaining! For those who may get tired during the day and would like the convenience of returning back to home base for a little rest, this wouldn't be the place for you due to the commute time. However, if you're looking for somewhere that offers good value, is clean and safe then this could be the place for you. We pretty much headed out in the morning and returned at night to retire for the evening. We never felt uneasy walking around the neighbourhood. The only minor complaint I'd mention is the shower handle. I couldn't take advantage of the rain shower head as the dial was so hard to turn but the water pressure on the handheld shower was excellent so that's no big deal. As well, there were noisy tenants upstairs but we were often tired enough at night to still fall asleep without too much problem and they were gone after a few nights anyway. Overall, we were quite satisfied with our stay and Marina really made a difference in making us feel welcome. I would gladly recommend this accommodation to anyone who is looking to explore NY.

Dear guys,
Thank you for letting me know about the problem with the shower panel handle: it worked just in one mode instead of 4. It's fixed now, and my guests can enjoy rain shower, handhold shower, feet shower and jets in full. -

A big thank you to Marina for making our holiday staying in Sand Ct so stress free. Everything was thought of all facilities in the apartment were excellent. Very comfortable bed, plenty of towels etc, all very clean and with Marina on hand to answer any problems.
Public transport also very good, bus to ferry just across the road. We made the journey to Manhattan on the ferry part of the holiday, didn't need to pay for a tourist boat trip we had it every day for free. Although the novelty did wear off a bit by the end of the week.
Beach at the apartment was a surprise too; I didn't expect that to be part of a New York holiday. Couple of good restaurants near by and Chinese take away that will deliver.

The apartment is.....ok, nothing at all is actually wrong, IF you want a comfortable, no frills apartment in Staten Island specifically then I would not hessitate.
If your on more of a NY Manhattan specific vacation I'd like to point out the travel, though fairly easy via SI ferry & bus, does take considerable effort at the end of a long day, even if you are sailing right past the statue of liberty.
If SI is where you want to be or the only way your budget can work for a longer Manhattan stay then no worries, neither Marina nor the apartment will let you down.Response from Marina - 05/05/2010

At booking these people knew exactly where this apartment is located, it's no secret it's not in Manhattan, even its title says about it. And the rates are much lower too, correspondingly . I answered all their questions about transportation and commute. All public transportation is across the street from home. Some reviews say more about reviewer than about apartment. He had nothing bad to say about my place, no particular complaint, except it's not in Manhattan, but applied low rating for cleanliness, comfort, etc. His rating is just unfair.

Taxikosten waren pro Strecke 50$ vom bzw. zum Flughafen New Ark.
Marina ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Wir haben die Zeit sehr genossen und würden jederzeit wieder bei Marina buchen.

Marina was very helpful, apartment exactly as
advertised. Cannot fault the apartment other than
slightly noisy 1st thing in morning & late at night
from the house above. Ok if you are an early riser
& late to bed. Location - 25 mins from the
apartment by bus (stop right across the road) to
the ferry. The ferry then takes about 25 mins to
get into Manhattan. After a few days the novelty
of the travel wears off (about an hour each way).
There is the option of the express bus if you want
to leave before 9.30 am - goes straight into
Manhattan. Wouldn't recommend coming back after
dark (any time of year) on the ferry and bus...felt
quite intimidated.Response from Marina - 04/29/2010

I'm really sorry for the noise you experienced at the time of your stay. Unfortunately, the apartment above was rented out to the very nice, but big and loud family, which does not happen often. According to my leasing contract, no noise is allowed from 11 p.m. till 8 a.m. You were not disturbed during these hours, but in the morning they did get up early to catch direct Manhattan X-buses before 9:30 a.m., to see more of what New York has to offer. That's what they came to New York for, right? X-buses take you to Manhattan within 25 min. At the same time local bus (17 min) + ferry (23 min) are running 24/7 and their schedules are synchronized, you don't have to wait at all. Staten Island is the most safe New York City borough, with the lowest crime statistics. Police officer is present on each boat. Ferry terminal is full of police. Bus stop is inside the terminal. People even forget to lock their cars here. Your feeling of insecurity had no base.

Very clean apt with all facilities one can need and imagine. Marina is the perfect

Chinese or Mexican restaurant, pharmacy and tiny supermarkets!
On the other side of the road is also the bus stop
which takes you to Staten Island Ferry in about 25

relaxing way to start your day with a small

i travelled alone and spent only 3 nights of one week in the flat. the flat locates near the beach(5-10mins to cross over the street),yet it hides itself from the main street and therefore is quiet and ideal for vacation. bus stop is not far away but it takes some time to get to the ferry, downtown manhatten or airport. hmm, so i find out new york is really a BIG city which almost no city in europe should be compared to.
i didn't discover any grocery nearby, but a chinese snack bar around.
my most favorite part about the flat is the computer and internet, the great shower, the location from the beach whereas the least is that there were no light-prevent curains or blinds in the bed room?hmm...hope it has some now)and the noise from the water(or electricity?heater?no idea) pump is really annoying especially for someone with sleeping problem.
the landlord is nice and helpful and lives just right upstairs.

This apartment is not advertised as Manhattan or airport location. The travelers always have a choice to stay on Time Square or stay in the boroughs and save. Everything is a matter of the budget. Public transportation is not in 5-10 min walk, it's in 1-2 min walk if you do not have any health issues. And it's functioning 24/7. All NY airports are located either in Queens or in Newark, NJ. Unless you are staying in the airport hotel, you have to be ready for 20-40 min ride to any NYC destination. It was probably difficult "not to find any grocery near by", because there are 4 deli/groceries and 5 restaurants and cafes (Chinese, Turkish, Italian, Russian, Pizzeria, Subway and beach cafe), all of them within 5-10 min walk from home. I instruct each guest at arrival personally, and with the telephone and computer connected to the internet in the apartment and me living in the same house, it's never a problem to ask. The statement about window blinds is just a lie. They were installed in the apartment from the first day, and it's just impossible not to see them. Yes, heater does make some noise when it's on and off. But this apartment has a totally separate unique heating system with heated flooring and thermostat in the apartment. So you can regulate temperature for your comfort. But if you want to keep constant climate in the apartment, heater will be on and off, depending on the outside temperature. It's nothing to do with the apartment, it's physics. Unfortunately, some people bring their personal misery with them on vacation. This apartment was designed and built for my own son, it's simple, with the elements of extra luxury: modern shower with a massage panel, heated flooring, wardrobe with special trouser rods, computer, wireless internet, air conditioner, you name it. But please, be realistic, don't expect it to be 6 star accommodations for $100/night. I visited many vacation rental apartments and know for sure: this is the best vacation rental in NYC for this value.

The apartment was extremely good and supplied all our needs. My 17 year old son loved the shower in particular. Marina could not have been more helpful offering us help at every turn. We were in New York for 8 days and I found the cost of Manhatten prohibitive so got the best of both worlds staying there for 2 nights and transferring to Staten Island for the rest. (6 nights in the apartment less expensive than the 2 nights in Manhatten)Certainly there is more travelling involved but my son wanted only so much sight-seeing so we split our time between down time for him, while I read having coffee on the boardwalk oppisite, and heading over to Manhatten for serious tourist time. I would highly recommend this apartment.

What can I write here that will do Marina and her
apartment justice?
I guess I'd like to start by saying thank you.
From the moment we arrived Marina bent over
backwards to make us feel welcome and give us
information about the area, the city & local travel
options.
The apartment it's self is located right on the
beach, which in the summer would have been a
bustling area. Fully equiped with ever appliance
from corkscrews to an Internet enabled computer.
Don't be fooled by how far this place is from
downtown New York. The transport links work like
clockwork 24 hours a day. I really put that to the
test and it truely was faultless. The ferry is free
and always links up to the bus which stops right
outside the apartment.
Great value for money, when I'm next in New
York I will be staying here again.
Thank you Marina for a wonderful stay.
