Quality self contained apartment wheel chair friendly heated throughout, with Queen Bedroom and a King/Twin Bedroom as optional extra. Overlooking Deep Bay beach 100 metres away,there is not a house in sight. This is a real getaway place with adventure outside the property and comfort inside. Your hosts will give you as much attention as you want and are available to make helpful suggestions if requested.

This island is the way the world used to be, friendly, considerate - even some of our birds pop on to your balcony to check you out. Luxuriate in native birdsong on your private tree top balcony. Continental breakfast, all linen pro...vided, wireless internet, TV. There are many walks locally or you can go out into the National Park which comprises 85% of the Island. "Lush rainforest, golden beaches, flora and fauna," bathe your eyes and ears. You are at peace.

Visitors arrive by Ferry or Air. For those who want an active stay, your choices are wide and varied; bird watching, kyaking, fishing, hunting or diving. There is a well stocked grocery store, restaurants, coffee and gift shops. 3 Kilometres by road from Halfmoon Bay township - Oban. 20 minutes through a delightful bush walk reaching the harbour view. Your hosts will transfer you to and from your plane or ferry and are happy to give you a lift at other times.

  From the moment we landed until the moment we left everything was perfect - wish we had stayed longer. Mrs Wadds gave a local tour to start our stay and introduced us to many local people, including Ulva who guides the tours on Ulva Island - a real must for bird lovers. The apartment was beyond our expectations - as was the service received - Excellent 5* in everyway.

  We first visited Stewart Island in January 2010.Foveaux Strait certainly lived up to its name-'rough and often treacherous stretch of water'. A 1hr crossing in gale force winds-so pleased to get to Oban-terra firma at last!
  We were greeted at the ferry by the landlady Mrs Wadds who is very warm and welcoming. She loaded our luggage into her car and gave us a small tour of the island. It seemed we had known her for ages, very friendly indeed.
  As the door to the apartment opened, I felt embarrassed.I recalled that when doing our booking I had asked Mrs Wadds "is the apartment clean?" as I had previously had experiences elsewhere in New Zealand where "what you see is not what you get". She politely had replied "yes - it is". This place was immaculate.The perfect accommodation to relax and unwind, feel comfortable and be treated to luxury, away from the hustle and bustle, away from news, video games, internet, tv(facilities available)-the place where time stands still. Perfect location for beach/bush walks or to simply enjoy the view from the balcony whilst enjoying a nice glass of wine in the evening breeze. The Kaka's would come to the balcony morn and eve to a hand feed of peanuts from the kids. We later got to know that our welcoming landlady is the ex principal of the only school on the island thus her dedication to introducing and teaching our kids of the various wildlife around the area. Mrs Wadds would check on us throughout every day of our visit to see if there was anything she could help us with. Both her knowledge and that of her husband proved very useful going around the island.
  It felt like we were living next door to our parents.
  Seafood is abundant...paua,green shell mussels, oysters, sea snails, cray fish, black mussels... its genuine. A Fishing trip for blue cod is a must on the island.
  Since our first trip to Stewart Island we have been back three times, and always to Deep Bay appts-there must be valid enough reason-its paradise.

  We were not quite sure what to expect when introduced to the idea of visiting Stewart Island - except that it can be very cold and wet - and not visited by many Kiwis.
  A combination of location and comfortable accommodation makes for an ideal holiday so we opted for Deep Bay apartments.
  There are no words to describe the beauty and serenity of Stewart Island from the moment you get sight of the tiny islands but the warmth and hospitality of Mr & Mrs Wadds are beyond expectation. The apartment is extremely well presented - clean and tidy, bright and airy. We were even treated to home baking for breakfast. The apartment is simply beautiful and highly recommended. It is the perfect location, right on the beach were you can truly listen to the sound of silence whilst surrounded with the abundance of nature. It was lovely to walk on the beach when the tide was out. Yet 30min walk from 'town'through native bush and picturesque bays. It is simply a magical place. It was lovely to have Mrs Wadds share with us her vast knowledge of the island and of must do's on the island.
  At our age I make it a point to once a year visit a place we have never been before, and at the young age of eighty, I have truly done that...combined with the best accommodation on the island. I'm lucky to say that I have literally been around the world but Stewart Island and the hospitality shown by the owners of Deep Bay apartment will forever remain in my memory as a truly special place.

  Stewart Island is a breathtakingly beautiful part of NZ and Deep Bay apt. only added to the whole experience. Actually, it made the experience! Perfect location and amenities with Lee and alan as wonderful hosts, who made us all feel like part of their extended family. The location was superb and the way the house was built you actually feel like you're staying in a plush tree house with a great view of the Bay and close-up Kodak moments with many native bird species! Great hiking nearby, the Ringa Ringa golf course (coolest name ever!), close to town and good food. A great place to relax and enjoy and getaway from it all.
