We arrived at the Cottage in the early evening. Carole greeted us, showed us around and then quickly made sure that we got ourselves out for dinner before the restaurants closed. She knows all the secrets of the Berkshire area and she is charming. Our suite was so comfortable! The location is amazing! After a day out and a night at Tanglewood, we arrived back at The Cottage and my husband said "We're home!" I think that says it all.

We stayed for the opening season concert at Tanglewood. We were extremely impressed with the cottage, providing ample room for two couples, complete with privacy for each. The owner, Carole Owens, couldn't have been more accommodating. The landscaped countryside setting is just a short drive uphill from Stockbridge, ma, a quintessential New England village with amazing architecture. We'll be back!

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Cottage to celebrate her birthday in historic Stockbridge. We had a great stay in the antique Suite. The Cottage offers a relaxing atmosphere that has plenty of space and privacy. Best of all The Cottage is close to all the Stockbridge attractions and everywhere else in the Southern Berkshires. I would recommend The Cottage to anyone staying in the Berkshires. Carole is also a great host and was very pleasant to deal with.

I have stayed at Carole Owens' home, "bed and breakfast” several times over the past few years. I've always loved it there. Its location, in the Berkshire Hills, could not be more beautiful...quiet, private, with breathtaking views. And it's only minutes from very special venues...the Berkshire Playhouse, Tanglewood, and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. I've stayed in the room at the front of the house when I've been there alone. ..times when I have been acting at the Berkshire Theatre. It's comfortable and lovely, but the bed is a standard double bed. So when I reserve rooms for couples who are friends of ours, or go with my husband, we use another one of the rooms, or suites which have king size beds. ...he's a lot taller. All of them are lovely, comfortable and quiet. And the breakfasts are delicious. Carole Owens is a charming, witty hostess...a pleasure to know. We have always loved it there as have our friends!

Left on 03/05/2012 for a stay in February 2012
I definitely expect some quirkiness in a B&B...; lights that don't work predictably, sink outside the bathroom, a key that doesn't really work. And the location and space in this B&B;'s large suite are great. The main reason I would never stay here again is that the only bed for a couple is a double bed! That is six inches narrower and six inches shorter than a queen bed. That combined with the thunderously loud heating system meant that my 6'5" husband and I barely slept. Also, the breakfast was quite lame: fruit that was half rotten, inedible bagels, and expired milk.

Owner
This family were lovely guests and I thank them for their review. Even though it is not all positive, they have done a service: if you are 6' 5" the Antique Suite is not for you. It is spacious and well appointed with real antiques and there is the problem. The antique bed has both a head board and a foot board; that makes it impossible for a very tall person to stretch out. Last year a man called and requested the Antique Suite and then mentioned his height. I recommended against the Antique Suite, offered our other suite or offered to help him find another B&B. My goal is always for my guests to be comfortable and happy. Unfortunately this couple requested the Antique Suite and did not tell me how tall they were. Fnal note, antique beds are narrow but the bed in the Antique Suite has been restored with new rails and a special box spring that makes it just 2" under the width of a queen and the same length.

My boyfriend and I have stayed at The Cottage at least 4 times now. We would have stayed there many more times, except it is often already booked when I have called to make a reservation. We love staying at The Cottage. It is just a minute from the center of town, and the accomodations are very spacious and comfortable. We have stayed in the one bedroom suite with plenty of room and a beautiful view of the Berkshires. Carole is extremely hospitable, warm, and welcoming. Our suite had a lovely patio area. During our last stay we decided to stay in for dinner and Carole graciously provided us with a grill to use. It is simply a lovely spot at a very reasonable rate.

My wife and i have stayed here twice now, and we will come back. Beautiful rural setting with terrific views of the Berkshire foothills. Room is spacious and warm. Carol will leave you whatever you ask for breakfast -- try Guido's granola! She has only ever been very nice to us. Great location, too! Have no idea why the people who were dissatisfied did not like it..

We just returned from a lovely weekend in the Berkshires despite the 14 inches of snow, largely due to the wonderful suites at the Cottage. The rooms were large and very clean. They were very private and quiet, and nicely furnished with comfortable beds, great comforters and plenty of bath towels. The larger of the two suites had a window wall looking into the yard that was a beautiful panorama of freshly fallen snow. The smaller suite was very cozy, quite ample for a couple, and also looked out into the yard. The proprietor was gracious as could be, and did everything she could to ensure we had everything we needed at all times. She even had the drive way plowed twice while we were there to make sure we would not be inconvenienced. I don’t know why the last reviewers were so displeased. The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars is because I save that rating for 5 star properties like the Four Seasons. The Cottage surpassed our expectations, and we would surely stay there again when our travels take us to that part of the country.

Spent a Labor Day weekend with the friends. The price we were charged could buy us Sheraton or Hilton. Instead we got a run-down house in desperate need of cleaning, dust everywhere, spider webs and musty smell. My daughter has allergy and she could not breathe and I had to use allergy medication too
. We were charged for a breakfast which included stale bagels, spoiled cut fruit and one small yogurt per person.
We did not complain and just wanted to enjoy our holiday. But Carole, the owner was so rude and unfriendly that I promised my friends to write this review. We were staying there 2 nights. On the first morning she declared that "Tonight is your last night here and the check-out time is 10am". Considering that house seems to be empty for weeks (I can say by the smell ) it was just not nice. In the evening we came home and my friends found her letter requesting that they would not smoke in the house They never smoke in any house let alone in the hotel. This was a last drop...Response from Carole owens - 09/24/2011

So sorry this party did not enjoy their stay and so pleased that all the other reviews are very positive and reflected guests who did enjoy their stays. Had these guests mentioned anything that displeased them during their stay, it would have been corrected, however, they never said a negative word. Sometimes there is an inadvertant personality conflict that overshadows everything. It might explain this review. Sometimes there is a hint to the underlying displeasure, for example, there are no hotels in South Berkshire -- just B&Bs and inns -- perhaps that is not a form of travel they expected or enjoy.

Lovely, spacious property with excellent proximity to Tanglewood, Shakespeare & Co, Lenox, etc., - everything you want to do and see in the Berkshires. Peaceful and gorgeous environment that gives you sense of what it might be like to actually live in this lovely locale.

We stayed as a family with 2 young children in tow, and we came to the Berkshires for a last-minute getaway. The Cottage was in a great location, minutes from Stockbridge's town center, minutes from Lenox and not too far from the turnpike. The space was quite big. If you have older children, it would be especially good because you can contain them in a large but separate space. Carole, the owner, was friendly and helpful. One of the biggest benefits that she does not advertise is the fact that guests have use of the Stockbridge Bowl Town Beach. We spent hours there, and it was just a few miles away. The only downside, and really I don't even want to call it that because we would stay again, is that you can sometimes hear cars driving by the cottage. If you were intending to stay somewhere that you can't hear anything but birds and crickets, you might find yourself a tiny bit disappointed. But we did not have that goal for the trip and after 9p or so I don't recall hearing any cars anyway. All in all, I wish it wasn't booked or else we would have stayed another night in a heartbeat.

My husband and I needed to get away for the weekend and we found this website. We called the owner and made some inquires about the place. She was so nice and friendly and we decided to give it a try. The suite is very spacious and it had a warm quaint feel to the place. We had a very relaxing weekend and she pointed us to the best places to eat. The owner makes you feel like you're an old friend,. I would recommend this place wholeheartedly.

This place is in one of the absolutely ideal locations in Berkshire Co. You are a 10 minute drive to Tanglewood (and away from all the traffic jams in Lenox and Lee) a walk to Stockbridge center, and Great Barrington is just down Route 7 a few miles. People who want to go to the theatre in Stockbridge or concerts at Tanglewood are nuts not to stay here. If you are not into a breakfast with 5 other couples, this is for you, because it is just one unit. The owner is the absolute authority on Berkshire Co. history and estates, having written several books, and is familiar with many of its current residents as well. She will steer you clear of those few places not worthy of your time. You may be disappointed by the size of the bathrooms, but don't go to the Berkshires for the bathrooms...
