Description from the owner
A rare traditional old crofter’s cottage, in a stunning area of the Isle of Lewis called South Lochs, Caberfeidh’s stone walls are over 2 feet thick, and many of the internal walls retain its original V lining –wooden paneling, which was used for further insulation in times gone by.
The cozy cottage overlooks the sea is set in its own fenced garden. You can walk to the coast within minutes. The closest neighbors are 100 meters away, and you’d be lucky to see a car go bye, or anyone else for that matter. The Cottage was fully renovated in 2011, and this is this only the second year I am renting Caberfeidh out. The three bedro...Read more

Sydney, AustraliaThe prettiest cottage in a real 'get away from it all location'
Left on 05/09/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We loved our week away, and rather than the week flying by, felt that we had been away for a month, and felt relaxed.
The house is fully contained - everything has been thought about, and the owner couldn't have made the stay easier. Highly recommended for couples, small families, or friends wanting to get away. -

DerbyNice cottage in a stunning location
Left on 12/11/2012 for a stay in May 2012
Everything was as described but the cottage was difficult to heat when the wind blew the little heat from the electric fires away. The main fire place is huge but without a fire in it the wind just sucked all the heat up the chimney. It was quite a long drive from the main road but other than that was very convenient for sight seeing around the island. The cottage was clean and quite comfortable and safe for a large family as there is little traffic in the area. You can do walks from the cottage as it is quite hilly and very scenic around the cottage. There are no amenities within walking distance such as a shop or pub, a nice place to get away from it all.

Hi Colin. Thank you for your feedback, and I’m glad you enjoyed your stay at Caberfeidh. This is the first time a guest has mentioned the issue of heat loss in the Living Room. You didn’t mention the three large storage heaters in the Living Room, Kitchen and Hall, which are very easy to operate and pumps out heat when they are turned up. The one portable electric heater is for the only bedroom without a wall heater, and there is no extra charge for electricity used. That said, I am looking into a fireproof sheet being fitted in the chimney to stop birds coming down, rain in storms, but as nobody had mentioned heat loss through the chimney, and I hadn’t thought of it as an issue, I had given it a low priority. I hope you return to Lewis, and stay at Caberfeidh again. The Island is a very special place. Rgs Rob

Having done lots of self catering cottages in the past, this one was by far the best, traditional cottage but equipped to a higher standard than we have had in the past and so well maintained and clean. We stopped over Christmas and it was so cosy to come back to a warm cottage and relax in front of the log fire after walking around the stunning scenery, all in all the perfect place to unwind.
