We loved Stowe and Deer Hollow!

Left on 02/28/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Our family of six spent five very enjoyable days at Deer Hollow. Coming from a part of our country where snow is very rare we found Stowe, its surrounds and the weather very exciting! Our main objective was to get on the ski slopes and for this the location was perfect. The very comfortable house and its facilities met all our expectations and it was a pleasure doing business with Susan. We all think Vermont is a beautiful state and would love to return in the spring or summer. We would certainly stay at Deer Hollow again.

First, It's wonderful that you and your family came all the way from South Africa to ski in Stowe! And I'm really glad you found our little corner of the world quite beautiful, too. Next time you visit, I hope you'll stay long enough to see the sights or do some hiking or biking. There's a whole different world to explore during the spring, summer or fall. Thanks for being great guests, and please do come back again soon! (Btw, Deer Hollow now has WiFi Internet access.)

      Great peeping (at leaves)

Left on 11/20/2012 for a stay in October 2012

This house in north-central Vermont is conveniently located for touring the upper half of the state. The owner, Susan, takes great pride in the rental - it is beautifully maintained.

We enjoyed the nearby hikes up on the Notch and the beautiful drives down country lanes. We also enjoyed visiting the farmers markets and bringing all of our great finds back to the well equipped kitchen.

It's a great "get-away" - there is no Wi-Fi or cable television. Instead, we made good use of the very nice selection of Dvds in the evenings.

Recommended for anyone who prefers more space than is available in a bed and breakfast or hotel.

Louise and MIchael weren't that lucky in the weather department but they nevertheless found beautiful places to peep at fall foliage and other enticing things to do in Stowe and in the vicinity. Plus, DEER HOLLOW is cozy and clean and especially nice for relaxing in inclement weather or preparing a lovely country dinner with wine. Not only is there an extensive DVD collection (always growing), but there's also a small "library" for readers including a collection of vintage cookbooks that belonged to my father. Because there are many public Wi-Fi spots in town and on Mt. Mansfield, too, getting away won't also mean "disconnecting."

I hope you have a chance to visit with us again. Deer Hollow is wonderful any season!

      Perfect setting

Left on 09/21/2012 for a stay in September 2012

This house has a perfect setting, surrounded by trees and open fields giving way to huge open sky's that allow you to see millions of stars at night, something those of who live in the city rarely see. Many happy hours were spent on the back porch watching the humming birds, dragonflies and butterflies, not to mention the 'walking' wildlife.

We spent a wonderful holiday at Deer Hollow, there is so much to do in the area for both young and old and we have no doubt that we will return again to this idilic place.

The house was everything Susan had described, well stocked with everything you might need for home living, very clean and with lots of room for both small and large parties. We ate out most evenings only because there are so many great places in Stowe and a little further afield, but the kitchen and dining area is perfect if you wish to stay home.

If you choose to stay here, you will have taken the first step to a perfect holiday.

This "perfect setting" seems to have accommodated the Perfect Guests: you left the house spotless and even well-stocked! Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness; it is very much appreciated.

I'm so happy you truly enjoyed your stay at DEER HOLLOW and your visit to Stowe. I know you found many interesting places to go in the surrounding hills of Vermont and also across Lake Champlain in New York state after a beautiful, scenic ferry ride. As for dinning out, Stowe offers more than 50 choices! Of course, alfresco dinning on the porch is always a warm-weather option.

Please take that "second step" and come back soon....and maybe you can add a visit to Montreal, too. I look forward to meeting again.

Left on 02/07/2012 for a stay in December 2011

Stayed at Deer Hollow for 4 nights over Christmas, the Snow arrived on christams eve making the White Christmas Log Cabin experience a reality. Located about 6-7 mins drive from the amenities of Stowe and less than 20mins drive from the Ski resorts it is the perfect idylic retreat. The property is clean throughout and well furnished with all you will require for your stay. Would happily return for another stay at deer hollow.

I was happy to participate in the SURPRISE you arranged for your mum: a White Christmas in Vermont. Fortunately, the weather accommodated your plans the night before your arrival and made it all perfect. When you left England, she thought she was heading for Paris...how surprised she was arriving at Deer Hollow amidst the freshly snow-covered pines and giant oak trees! And inside, I had prepared Christmas lights and decorations for a Christmas tree. Sounds like your wonderful gift to your mother was perfectly idyllic. Best wishes and come back to DEER HOLLOW soon...maybe in another season!

      Family Summer Week at Stowe

Left on 09/11/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We had decided to rent a house in Vermont for the second week of our three week holiday in Canada and the us. Travelling with the family (parents and three children aged 14, 14 and 12) from Denmark we had a great week in Deer Hollow and in Stowe. Just what we had been looking for.

Following a week in Toronto we did enjoy the peace of the woods and the country but also managed a few sights, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in Waterbury being an obvious choice with kids, the cable trip to Mansfield Mountain, Burlington with Shelburne Farms and Lake Champlain -- and shops and restaurants in Stowe. Not as much dining at home as we had thought but the kitchen at Deer Hollow is fully equipped and we managed to cook our dinner there a couple of times. Shaw's supermarket is located just before entering Stowe, a 8 minute drive from Deer Hollow, and local farm products are on sale there and in other shops or at farm doors. On the last evening we went to the annual Stowe balloon festival with 25 hot air balloons taking off from a field just outside Stowe. A great experience.

Deer Hollow is spacious (at least to a Danish visitor), very clean, a house with a personality and at the same time easy to feel at home in. Also small notes on cupboard, etc. to guide us and we would like to thank Susan for her hospitality, which we felt all the way through.

We really enjoyed the week in northern Vermont, in Stowe and in Deer Hollow -- and yes, we did see a deer in the garden on the morning of July 4th!

It really sounds like you had a very full week in Stowe and managed to visit many of the wonderful attractions in the area. Stowe is nestled in a valley formed by the peaks surrounding Mt.Mansfield (the highest mountain in Vt.) and the Little River meanders its way through. But Lake Champlain, with spectacular views toward the Adirondack mountains in New York, is also close-by and provides lake enthusiasts with many water activities. With so much to do, it's really nice to have a comfortable place to come home to and DEER HOLLOW truly is like home! I'm very glad you enjoyed your stay, it was a pleasure to meet you, and I hope you are able to return soon to Stowe and Deer Hollow.

      Hilltop Farmhouse Deer Hollow Stowe

Left on 07/19/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at Deer Hollow. Susan was there to greet us and show us round the property. The house was very clean and well equipped. The kitchen was particularly well equipped. The surroundings were very peaceful but if you wanted the town Stowe and surrounging towns were easily accessible. Lots of opportunity for country walks and hill walking. Would recommend a visit to Burlington area.

Your return visit to Stowe after 20 years surely held some surprises, but Stowe and Mount Mansfield--Vermont's highest peak--are always spectacular and do provide limitless opportunities for every outdoor enthusiast. Burlington, on the shore of Lake Champlain, is a favorite of mine, too.
I'm very glad you enjoyed your stay at Deer Hollow and found the house extra-clean, well equipped, and very much as described--no surprises there!

      Wonderful and Cozy Country Home

Left on 05/17/2011 for a stay in February 2010

We stayed here during a busy February Vacation. You felt like a real local in this neighborhood as we watched the school bus each morning that we headed out to the mountain. It has a neat location that makes it very easy to get to the grocery store without having to get back on the main road. Also, you circumvent much of the traffic when you head up to the mountain. The house is well equipped with everything you need to cook up a storm and enjoy a vermont winter night. We loved the wood burning stove and appreciated having a washer and dryer with 3 small children. The only issue we encountered was very low water pressure in the shower for just a couple of the days. Susan is there to check you in and out and the house is immaculate.

This review was just received (May,2011) although your stay was in Feb, 2010. Since then, a number of measures have been taken to improve water pressure. The house is in a rural area where the neighbors are well hidden (on minimum 5-acre lots, many of which are much larger) and you will definitely see a traditional yellow school bus go by! I'm glad you found Deer Hollow immaculate, well-equipped and conveniently- located, and felt like a "real local," too....AND, that "Absolutely, I would recommend this accommodation to my best friend!"

The Best of all Possible Worlds

Left on 12/08/2010 for a stay in July 2009

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Deer Hollow. Susan took care to ensure everything related to our rental was organized and documented. When we arrived, she met us at the property, gave us a tour, and showed us where everything was. (We once rented a beach condo, and when we arrived late at night, the key the landlord had FedExed us did not work! So we were glad Susan took the time to drive to Stowe and meet us, long enough to make sure everything was in working order.) The meadow surrounding the house was beautiful, providing gorgeous vistas for reading and meditation. The house, itself, had everything we could possibly need -- a fully-stocked kitchen, microwave oven, dishwasher (with detergent), washer and dryer (again, with detergent), a library of Dvds, and an extensive collection of area maps and brochures for local attractions. The house combined the best of all possible worlds -- only a couple miles from Stowe Village with all its shops and restaurants, while still feeling secluded and quiet and away from it all. We hope to return!

Left on 11/12/2010 for a stay in October 2010

Fall in Stowe? No one could believe I would go to a winter wonderland in October, but what a fabulous choice I made. The autumn colors, the weather, the house itself were just perfect. The house was immaculate, as promised, and the amenities in the house were perfect. My friends and I loved being there and will certainly return for another visit next year.

I'm so glad you chose Deer Hollow during PEEK season! Stowe is surrounded by mountains, including the highest PEEK in Vermont, Mt. Mansfield. The views are spectacular during the fall...and considering your southern home, I'm not surprised that you were dazzled by the scenery. Come back again...Deer Hollow will be warm and welcoming whenever you arrive!

A ski resort isn't just for Winter

Left on 11/12/2010 for a stay in August 2010

Susan's cottage is well situated, just a few of miles out of Stowe, both for the peace of the mountains and for the high-life. Stowe proved a lively place even in the 'low' summer season. There's a vast choice of places to eat and drink there, although with such a high-spec kitchen we often ate in - and one evening even entertained friends and family. The place is wonderfully spacious. Everything was as Susan described, and spanking clean. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed breakfast and after-dinner drinks on the porch, entertained by butterflies, birds and dragonflies. Our young american nephews insisted we visit Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory and the Magic Hat brewery - free samples included! And we particularly enjoyed a visit to Montpelier. We would definitely recommend 'Deer Hollow' in the summer months to other non-skiers like ourselves.

It seems you've found the secret of Stowe! There are so many things to do in and around Stowe that it has truly become a four-season destination. The summer months buzz with a string of outdoor festivals within view of the mountains that inspired the Trapp family to settle in Vermont. Skiers and non-skiers alike will not be disappointed when they visit Stowe, and DEER HOLLOW offers rural vistas combined with the comforts of home, and access to all of Stowe's magic within minutes...and maybe a glimpse of the neighborhood *Deer* that visit regularly!!

Left on 11/04/2010 for a stay in October 2010

Deer Hollow is in a quiet, rural situation about 6 minutes from the nearest supermarket and a minute more from Stowe centre. It is exceptionally well equipped and extremely comfortable. All the services work well and there are more than enough towels and general equipment for even the most demanding. On arrival it was meticulously clean and Susan Hertzerg, the owner/manager was on hand to welcome us and show us where everything was and how everything worked. Deer Hollow provided a base for a really enjoyable holiday in a truly lovely area close to a fascinating small town with access to many other sites of interest, restaurants and scenic drives and walks. All pre-arrival services were efficiently handled: we will be back!

Home away from home, this cottage has all the facilities you would expect in a house and more! Susan is a pleasure to deal with and helps with local knowledge to enhance your trip. This cottage was perfect for us, a short drive to the town and the local supermarket. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again! Our only initial minor disappointment was no internet connection, however, Stowe itself offers plenty of free access so this did not interfere with our vacation at all. Thanks Susan!

Thanks for your recommendation and your understanding...meeting nice people is one of the pleasures of managing the property. Deer Hollow is in an area of Stowe that does not have much access to high speed internet. There is dial-up access at the house, which is good for daily communication needs such as email, and many locations in and around town offer free high-speed wireless access. On the other hand, come to Deer Hollow to disconnect!

Peace and Quiet and Natural Beauty in the Mountains

Left on 10/21/2010 for a stay in August 2009

I've stayed at this property for at least a week almost every year for the last ten years. I always wish I could stay longer.

The house is large and spacious and has everything you need for a quiet relaxing stay away. I like to bake and make good meals to save money and eat healthy, and I find the kitchen fully functional, and in some ways even better than in my own home.

The property and the area around it are full of windy roads, covered bridges and walking trails that are great places to go exploring. The air always seems so clean and the view of the sky so inspiring across the open meadow. Sunsets are the best, and sometimes, if you are lucky, you might even spot a few deer!

Of course there are lots of things to do in 'downtown' Stowe which is not far down the road, or a little farther afield in other towns nearby, but often I love to just stay in and enjoy the mountains all around and curl up with a good book.

The house is always spotless, with comfy beds and places to sit and read or talk. It's my favourite home away from home!
