If you look to my other reviews, you will find that this review is an exception. My experience has to be pretty bad to rate this kind of review.

No disrespect to the owners of this cabin, but they need to look for a new property management company. The pictures reflect the cabin pretty accurately. Nothing fancy - , but if you are there for the snow, it's just a place to lay your head anyway and a good basic cabin for a family of five looking for a mini vacation in the snow.

The cabin is located in a heavily occupied neighborhood in Sugarloaf and the backyard is very tiny - and if your car is parked in the driveway - there is no snow play available. Corner store has a good supply (although very pricey), nice owner, but the parking lot is suspect of drug deals.

Back to the cabin. We were told to arrive between 3pm and 5pm to pick up the property key or we would need to go to a different location after 5pm and we would be charged for the key pick up. We arrived at the office just before 4 which placed us at the cabin around 4:15 - only to discover the cleaning person still inside. I called the property management company as we left to survey the area and give the cleaning person more time. I was provided with an apology and told that they thought the cabin was ready at 2pm - that was it. We came back and the cleaning person was still there...the cleaning person did not leave until 6:30!!! Its a two bedroom cabin. My guess is the cleaning person arrived minutes before our first arrival. However when you are going to charge a renter a fee for a late key pick up you should ensure the rental is ready.

We reserved the cabin for 5 people for 4 days. We were left with one towel a piece, two washclothes, 2 handtowels, 1.5 rolls of single ply toilet paper.

We found mouse droppings behind one of the bedroom dressers.

The master bedroom heater misfunctioned during the second night and set off the fire alarm. We went without the next night.

Wine opener was broken (and we definitely need it with our experience here)...we bought a Dollar Tree version at the corner store for $5 and left it in the kitchen for the next poor soul who has the misfortune to stay there.

The front door jammed shut and could not be opened. My husband had to remove the lock to find that there was a nail sticking out of the bottom of the door jam which was preventing the door from opening.

We paid for a $75 cleaning fee - but we were required to strip the bed linens and place them in a pile with all of the used towels (all five of them), empty all of the trash cans and take the trash with us, and we were required to wash all the dishes we used and place them back into the cupboards or we would be charged per dish!!! I ask you, what exactly does the cleaning fee entail?

I wrote a letter to the rental property two weeks ago, but I have not received a response.

We have used rentals in the past and have never had such an experience.

Its a shame because I feel most of our experience was due to the property management company rather than the cabin itself. Owners - you need a change!

Good news - great restaurant at the airport, Bj's hamburgers rock, big , the area at the end of Maple street is a great place for sledding and when it starts to melt trek over to alpine Slides.

      Manager

      GobClan,
Thank your for responding to our survey on Highland Hideaway. We are so sorry you had so many problems while you were here. We have fixed the front door and the bedroom heater. Any housekeeping problems you incur while staying with us can be addressed while you are here but unfortunately this one was not. Mice can pose a quick problem while in the mountains. Especially during the winter season as they are looking for warmth. We apologize for this inconvenience as well. Hopefully, you will give us an opportunity to serve you better on a future stay. Again, thank you for the review-it will allow us to give a better product to our guests.

      Sincerely,

      The Village Reservations Team
