Left on 12/29/2011 for a stay in December 2011
I booked this cabin for me and my boyfriend, our stay was really great. everything worked well except the bathroom sometimes ran into trouble. I like the cabin design since it gave me a feel coziness, the location wasn't far away from snow summit or big bear so driving around wasn't inconvenient at all. Checking in and out was fast and easy. We had a great time overall, would go back here again

We enjoyed our 3 day's stay with only minor problems. The accommodations are acceptable and affordable. We didn't book a stay at the Hilton so people that expect something more than what it is need a reality check. Terrific quaint cabin just right for a couple or small family. Gives you the feeling of being a local instead of a tourist.

This cabin is as what it said it is. While my stay, the heater failed to provide the desirable temp for the bedroom. Make sure that you wear heavy sweaters to the bed.
When I booked this cabin online, nowhere does it say about additional pet fee so I was unprepared to shell out additional fee on my yorkie. Unlike other properties shown online that discloses fees for pets, it only tells you this is per friendly.Response from Big Bear Vacations - 03/15/2012

Thank you so much for staying with Big Bear Vacations. We do out best to make all fees transparently visible in multiple locations in both our rental agreement as well as on our web site (the above mentioned disclosure can be seen here). We do appreciate your honest feed back.

The cabin is cute. The front screen door did not close or lock and with a small dog that was not helpful. Windows with no screens. No air conditioning.
The neighborhood was not very comfortable to walk in. We made the best of our situation. -

Los AngelesPoor experience at Mountain Hide Out
Left on 07/13/2011 for a stay in July 2011
While the staff of Big Bear Vacations was extremely friendly and helpful, and the cabin was clean upon arrival, we had some not-great experiences during our weekend stay.
After a lovely, smooth, easy check in, we drove to the cabin only to find that our key didn't work. We both tried it several times, and at this point it had started to rain. Due to long hours on the road, there was also a bathroom situation. I called the office and the man who answered assured me he would contact Maintenance, and that they would come and let us in in 15 minutes at the most. I totally understand that mistakes happen and sometimes keys don't work, so I was fine with that. We sat in the car and 15 minutes came and went. I called again and spoke to a woman who said that the call had been put into Maintenance but they were busy with other work orders and it'd be another 15-20 minutes. This happened two more times. We waited for over an hour for someone to drive a couple minutes from the office to the cabin. And then, Maintenance couldn't find the cabin. Several times, the office called to make sure I was at the right place because the man couldn't find us. It was pretty frustrating. Not a fun way to start the weekend.
The next morning, my boyfriend attempted to take a shower. It didn't work. He worked on it for about 30 minutes, and finally he fixed the showerhead and water began to flow. It seems crazy to me that he would have to do that at all. We called the office for Maintenance again, but after our experience upon check-in, I didn't trust them.
The kitchen utensils were melted (a previous guest must have left the plastic sitting on a pan), there were no tools for cleaning or operating the grill, the dresser in the bedroom malfunctioned - one of the drawers got stuck. Both my boyfriend and I pulled and pulled and got it out, and were almost stabbed by nails sticked out of the bottom of the drawer.
We didn't have as relaxing a weekend as we had hoped for. -

First of all, the people at the office gave us the wrong key and we had to wait at the door for a good 20 minutes until someone came with the right key. The property "Mountain hide-out #949" was terrible. There're spider webs behind the broken mini-blinds; the sliding shower door was stuck and almost fell off at one time; there's mold all over the place in the bathroom; several light bulbs were out in living room and bedroom; we couldn't get the tv to work; the heater made funny noices in the middle of the night. One good thing about the place was that it's close to the high school where my daughter was playing the softball tournament. Overall this is a poorly maintained property and a total disappointment.

The kitchen was very clean and well stocked (bring your own napkins/paper towels!), the stove was small, the cooking utensils had some wear. The bedroom is small but has a decent closet with extra linnens/pillows, the bed was firm, the mini blinds let you know when it's dawn when the sunshine hits you in the face. There is no view from any window that is "scenic" there are neighbors at extremely close proximity (we heard an interesting and colorful argument at 0800 from just south of) and gardeners are scheduled on the weekends for next door as well.
Overall a nice getaway, but a little far from town and no real yard for your furry companion (I'd only recommend brining 1 small to medium size dog).Response from Big Bear Vacations - 06/05/2011

Cute little cabin with all the amenities we needed. Perfect for the weekend getaway we had planned. Located in a quiet neighborhood, and not too far from town. Only real problem was the screen door was torn and one of our dogs momentarily escaped, however, Big Bear Vacations is aware of the problem and hopefully it will be fixed!

Left on 03/31/2011 for a stay in March 2011
This cabin was okay -- it was not well kept. There floor in the entry way was torn up and covered by a rug. The cabin had movies with a video player that did not work. The cabin is heated by a wall heater and therefore makes this small, cozy cabin unsafe for children due to the heat and location of the heater. We only stayed one night but for what we paid, the location and issues inside I would not recommend this place for families with children ages 7 and under.
Response from Big Bear Vacations - 03/31/2011

We have replace the DVD player and added some good movies for guests to watch. The heater does work very well and keep the cabin significantly warm.
Our Mountain Hide #949 is really a great place for children and well recommended for any type of vacation in Big Bear. Located in the Sugarloaf area it makes for good outdoor mountain fun!! Not too much traffic out there to worry about either.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this cabin to anyone. I have rented a ton of cabins as an avid snowboarder. This is the first one that I've ever had that was unclean. I honestly dont think they clean it at all. I was traveling with my wife and 20month old daughter. My daughters socks and pants were filthy from playing in this cabin. The couch and throw pillows were brown and dirty, and we were quite uncomfortable during our stay. Didnt want to sit on anything. The comforter on the bed was stained also. Also, there was only one wash cloth provided for three people for a two night stay. I do realize that this was an inexpensive rental but that is no reason for it to be so filthy. Baseboards were disgusting, laminate floor was peeled off in several areas. No wood provided for fireplace either.

Dear Guest,
We are sorry that the cabin was not up to your standards. We take a great pride in the Mountain Hideout, as it is a great little inexpensive cabin for a mountain getaway. It is not typical that guest have a problem with the cleanliness of the property, but in the case that it were to happen, I want to remind you that you can always call our office to let us know and we will do anything in our power (even re-sending housekeeping to do a walk through with you) to resolve the situation.
Have a great day!

We (my g/f, our Golden, and I) loved staying at the Mountain Hideout cabin. The cabin was comfortable and in a quiet neighborhood. It is about 7 miles or so away from the slopes, but we didn't mind that at all. We enjoyed it so much we wanted to extend our original 3-nights, but had to get back to work. We'll definitely be staying in this, if not another cabin by Big Bear Vacations.

For the price, it was amazing! There was some random damage on the floor, walls, etc. but it didn't really ruin the ambiance of a rustic cabin and it wasn't enough for us to be upset over.
We arrived to pick up the keys around 9 or 10 PM, they were very friendly and offered us the restroom and coffee due to our long drive. When we got there everything was clean, a light in the cabin was on to help us find our way in.
It is only about 5 minutes away from the busy areas of Big Bear.Response from Big Bear Vacations - 02/08/2011

Left on 08/15/2010 for a stay in July 2010
Summer is ending soon. We decided to spend two nights up the mountain and do some boating in the Big Bear Lake. Selected this cabin for its generally good review. The check-in service is very fast and cordial. The cabin is away from the lake but in a nice wooded area. The cabin is well stocked with everything you need for cooking and good size for a family of 4. I only give it 3 star as the cabin is definitely in need of some maintenance. Several screens are missing, the lever for the toilet tank did not work, and the light switch for the lamp is broken. I fixed the toilet problem with a rubber band so we don't have to wait for the plumber to come. We had good time for our stay despite the inconvenience.

The cabin is in a nice location, quiet and serene. There was 3 of us who stayed there for 2 nights. Kitchen is nice with refrigerator, microwave, stove/oven and dishes. Tvs are in living room and bedroom. We used it just for a place to sleep and far enough away to be secluded but close enough to get to Big Bear within 10 to 15 minutes. Only complaint is the bedding covers had debris on top of it and needed to be better washed or replaced. Would rent again but would bring my own bedding.

Left on 06/02/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We enjoyed our 1-night stay at Mountain Hide Out. It's just a short drive from the main part of Big Bear, and we appreciated being away from the crowds. The cabin is nestled in a neighborhood and super quiet, which is important to me! We brought our dog with us and he had a great time. Big Bear is dog-friendly, and we took him hiking and swimming in the lake. We also appreciated the pet-friendly cabin options with BBV. That will make us visit more, for sure. Check-in was quick and they were very friendly. Appreciated the welcome bag with information and little treats. This was our first time renting a cabin from anyone, and next time we'll know we need to bring our own supplies, such as firewood, paper towels, etc. It would have been nice for someone to mention that. We were a little disappointed when at 8:30pm we realized we didn't have firewood and didn't want to go out again. The cabin was very comfortable. The heater worked great and sounded like a fire, so that was my substitute. The tv was fine, we enjoyed watching a movie on the futon couch. The kitchen was small and we intended to cook our meals there, but the stove is very old, so we opted for pizza instead. My only real complaint was that when we went to clean the dishes, there was a half sponge that was pretty worn, so we had to go buy a new one, plus, we were a little worried about how clean the dishes actually were. Next time we'll just wash before using. Live and learn. Overall, great experience, and we will definitely be using Big Bear Vacations the next time we rent in Big Bear!! Can't wait to come back.

This one bedroom cabin fixed in the quiet hills of Big Bear (Sugar Loaf) was the perfect place for a week?s vacation. The creature comforts were adequate and the decor were quite creative; with fishermen theme lamp stands and skis for overhead lights, this could keep the outdoorsy person inspired during their stay. The distance from civilization was only a few miles with many restaurants along the way. If you are planning on getting away for a short while from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind Big Bear is the place.
