Scottsdale, ArizonaDescription completely misleading and untrue
Left on 05/13/2013 for a stay in May 2013
I need to start this review by saying we own a timeshare, have rented timeshares all over the us and overseas and rented condos directly from owners for over 30 years. This rental was by far the worst experience we have ever had. I have written many reviews but never had to write a warning review.
My husband and I stayed in this condo the first of May 2013. I should have trusted my instincts and never rented a condo without previous reviews. I need to state right off that we were extremely disappointed and ended up spending our days and well into the night at the condo my sister rented down the street. Her condo was easily twice as big and clean.
I'll start with the good...the location is wonderful, directly across from the beach. We could see the ocean from the balcony but never used the balcony because the furniture was so old and dirty we were uncomfortable sitting out there. We were told the condo was on the third floor which technically it is but with the building on stilts, it's up four flights of stairs. The carpeting on the stairs is worn and in one place so ripped it created a tripping hazzard. It does have 2 flat screen tvs but that's the only thing in the ad that I would say is as described.
The condo is extremely small and would be totally inappropriate for 6 as advertised. There's no way 6 adults could stay in this tiny condo unit. The master is small but was ok for us. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows old, stained and flat. There is no closet in the master which led us to believe the master was maybe split in half as the second (closet) bedroom was so tiny if you opened the futon (old) it would be difficult to walk in the room. The futon would meet the closet door. The second bedroom had 2 windows which opened and had screens which turned out to be our only means of fresh air. Neither the slider in the master or the living room had screens so to say you can "hear the waves break at night" only if you want bugs and whatever else coming in.
The first few days were very cold and rainy so we used the heat. Coming from aZ we were cold. The heat pump worked great. The next day or two we didn't need air at night and used the ceiling fans. The final days we needed air and were very upset because it was broken. It blew hot air only and we were miserable trying to sleep. I admit it was our fault not calling the owner to complain about the broken air conditioner but honestly we assumed when renting a condo the owner should make sure everything is in proper working order before guests arrive. The owner lives in the area. So we figured by the time she had someone fix it we'd be gone. We only "tried" to sleep there.
The ad states the condo is "newly furnished and decorated". That couldn't be further from the truth. The couch was so stained we put towels on the cushions to avoid sitting on the stains. The yellow chair was so filthy we never sat on it. The kitchen had enough items but the owner didn't provide any paper towels, sponge, dish detergent or anything else to get us started. Now for the bathroom..the tub was clean and newer but the knob was clear and has mold growing in it. The floor is tiled but tile is broken, grout is missing in many places and filled with dirt. We had to use towels on the floor rather than step on the tile. The baseboards were dirty and had hair stuck to it. Even the wallpaper in the bathroom was torn off in places. The front door has a large space under it so bugs etc could easily crawl in. This place is not properly maintained and the owner obviously doesn't take pride in the property. We were truly disappointed and have to state we would never recommend this condo to anyone. It is truly a shame the property is in such poor condition because if it was clean, updated and in good repair with the great location it could be a good rental.
