Fayetteville NCridgetop hideaway review

We just spent our honeymoon vacation here and we were very satisfied! It seems very fresh and newly renovated, but as such, it didn't seem quite finished. There were some pieces if wall art and a nice DVD player with surround sound complete with speakers and cables. Wasn't able to use the DVD player however because the play button on the front wouldn't play my Dvd's and I couldn't find a remote for it. Very comfortable place though for the two of us, but make sure that you don't try to drive up that mountain at night cause it was pretty freaky with all the winding turns. Beautiful area though with an incredible porch view of the mountain valley. We didn't have to drive more than fifteen to twenty minutes to get to most of the good places in town either. Go here!

Summerville, SCFeel secluded but not away from it all!

This cabin was awesome! The cabin was very well kept and was very comfortable. Everything was neat and clean when we arrived. The dog run was also great since we had brought along our dogs. It feels very secluded even though there are other houses along the way coming up the road. It had everything we needed for a fun long weekend. We also really liked its close proximity to asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure. Our children loved everything about it and didn't want to come back home. We would love to stay there again someday.
The office staff that we made the reservation with was also great. They were very friendly and accomodating as we worked with them over the phone. I would recommend Greybeard Rentals to anyone!

Greybeard managed to find a family of 4 a house at the last minute for a much needed getaway. Living on the Outer Banks of North Carolina we wanted the opposite vacation spot. The realtors were very friendly and professional. The home had a great kitchen and great master bedroom. the downstaairs left the impression that it has not been finished. Only one TV worked. The location was fun once we found it. We felt as if we were the only people on the mountain! Perfect silience.

Our stay at Ridgetop Hideaway was everything we hoped it would be. Greybeard Rentals is a pleasure to plan a vacation with. Everyone is very friendly, with great communication back and forth. The directions to the home were easy to follow; the house was spotlessly clean upon our arrival.
The home was perfect for us, we are a couple that were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The location is very secluded with a beautiful view of the mountains. We spent a lot of time on the porch just relaxing and admiring the view; we also used the fire pit to cook hotdogs and marshmallows.
Everything about the home was more than satisfactory. Nice bathroom with plenty of hot water and fluffy towels; very comfortable bed in the master bedroom; the central air and ceiling fans kept everything super comfortable. The kitchen is equipped with really nice appliances, everything we needed to prepare our meals was there.
We didn't venture out much, the house was so nice we didn't want to leave. We did spend a great day at the shopping village in Black Mountain.
This is one of the best vacations we've ever had. We will definitely be planning many more vacations through Greybeard Rentals and are already thinking about when we can come back to Ridgetop Hideaway. -

As first time renters, we were surprised at the condition of some of the amenities. There were only 6 glasses of mixed matched size, only 3 dinner forks - albeit several small forks and the plastic cooking utensils were so flimsy they could not be used. The pots and pans were absolutely insulting as one had caked on food at the inside and one had so many scratches that they both were unsafe and unusable. Additionally there was only 1 lid and it didn't fit any pot. I read the previous reviews and therefore brought my own "kitchen". Had I not, i would have requested money back. Also the "2nd" bedroom is an above ground basement without closet or bureaus or door. We had to leave our on clothes in the suitcases or stacked in the open on a ledge. While we enjoyed our stay, we would not recommend this place unless they restock the kitchen adequately and properly. One last thing. The frig area needs to be repaired as it hits the countertop and makes much to much noise below in the "2nd" bedroom - a condition I requested investigated and resolved which was not.

Overall a very nice, clean home. Great to have kids area seperate downstairs. Internet and TV did not work but not a bad thing since the weather was perfect. It could not be fixed in a timely manner. Several bee hives were removed quickly. The rental company seemed to have a great sense of urgency to fix these issues.

Savannah, GAGreat place to wind down on a much-needed vacation
Left on 06/17/2012 for a stay in June 2012
My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in this cabin. It is very nicely decorated and had everything we could possibly need. It's pet-friendly and has a wonderful fenced in area for our wiener dogs. You can also close off the porch area to give them more room to roam safely.
The location is great: close to asheville and near the top of the mountain. It's very private and we saw lots of critters. The wild turkeys were hysterical.
There are only 2 minor things that could make this place perfect: a hammock for the upstairs deck area and an outdoor hot tub. There was a jacuzzi in the upstairs bath which was awesome after a long day of hiking but we really wanted to be outside and enjoy the view.
The only problem we had was yellow jackets. They're building nests underneath the stairs and the railing by the French doors. My fiancé got stung twice. Fortunately he's not allergic to their stings but the wasps became increasingly aggressive. We eventually had to run to and from the car to beat them.
The cabin also has a garage with a door opener which came in handy with those yellow jackets.
We were really sad to leave and as we drove off talked about how soon we could return. -

It was exactly the house we were looking for. Very private, neighbors' houses are far away, amazing view from the deck, the house itself is very clean and nicely furnished. Driving to the house is fun, it's quite steep and you need 4-wheel. The only thing we were having hard time was taking showers, water pressure was weak and hot water didn't last long enough to wash your hair or shave your legs). We go to the NC mountains a few times a year to different locations and my job is to find a place and book it, sometimes it's a last minute decision, and many cabins can't be booked online and owners don't take credit cards, so it takes up to a few days to set things up with the owner. This house I booked online and paid with a credit card which was very quick, easy, and convenient. We certainly will be coming back!

Washington, D.C.Quiet but not too isolated
Left on 05/13/2012 for a stay in April 2012
First, getting to the house is an adventure in itself. The directions Graybeard provided should be reviewed - they make the drive more confusing than it really is, and fail to mention that one of the streets is unmarked (and has a "No Exit" sign that leads you to believe it dead ends which isn't true). An SUV is very useful given the steep road and constant switchbacks. Be careful on the road at night - the road and turns disappear in the fog.
The house itself is nice furnished with modern appliances and electronics. Everything worked as promised, and the Internet connection was great. I know this is always an issue with rental houses but the cooking gear, could use an upgrade, e.g. none of the pots had lids that fit. This was more of an issue with this house because we ended up cooking almost every night - we weren't in the mood to drive back down the hill to find a restaurant. If you plan on cooking at night, you may want to bring your own utensils like good knives, pyrex dishes, etc.
One other comment about the kitchen - the refrigerator was loud, and from downstairs it sounded like a jet ready for take off. We had to turn it down every night so we could sleep. Also, the house has a steep spiral staircase between the floors, which may be a problem for some.
But those were minor problems. The surrounding area was extremely quiet and there is a great view from the porch. I sat outside every morning in the rocking chair with a cup of coffee and watched the sun come over the mountains. We were also grateful they accepted pets.
It is a good location for exploring the area. Downtown asheville is twenty minutes away, hiking trails in the Pisgah National Forest were less than hour (via the wonderful Blue Ridge Parkway), and the gorgeous waterfalls in the Dupont State Forest were an hour and half drive.
I wish we could have stayed longer as there was much more we wanted to do in the area, but the week stay was wonderful.

DurhamA Wonderful Getaway
Left on 05/12/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We really enjoyed our stay at Ridgetop Hideaway. We got up the mountain in our Grand am, but may not have been able to make it in the rain. The home itself was nice and cozy. The view was beautiful and it was nice to be able to have our dog run around in the dog run outside. We had so much fun and would definitely stay there again.
The second bedroom is actually just the whole bottom floor, so if you need two enclosed bedrooms, this doesn't fit the bill. I wouldn't recommend this to people with toddlers as the spiral staircase is a little narrow. Our small dog had a little bit of trouble getting up and down the stairs.
We were very happy with the complete seclusion and the feeling of being away from it all.
