The house was awesome and tucked deep in the woods. We loved that we were away from the hustle and bustle. We would consider it again. The only issue for us was the distance from Wisp. Not a deal breaker.

We loved the location and have had good experiences with another Railey Rental in the past. The problem we had with our stay at the Bear Mountain Lodge is that the house obviously had not been lived in or rented in a long time, and it was not ready for us. For starters, when we arrived on Friday night, late, we could not give baths to our children because there was no hot water. My husband figured out ultimately that the hot water heater was turned off, and he turned it back on. But by then, it was too late for baths.
The other problem was that there was a foul smell in the water (like rotten eggs), that stank up the whole house. It did not go away really until Saturday afternoon, after we ran the water for a while. Even then, it was still detectible, and it was not a good smell. It made me not want to bath the kids in such stinky water, or do any laundry or cook with that water.
Then on Sunday night, we bought materials to grill some steaks outside on the gas grill. But when my husband went to turn it on, the gas was empty and we could not grill. That was disappointing.
Finally, there was a beam that was sticking up on the deck floor, and my older boy tripped over it several times. It's dangerous and should be fixed.
We would try Railey Rental again, but we definitely would not stay again at this house. -

The house is great. We really enjoyed the hot tub and pool table. Great if you just want to get away and relax at the house, not great if you plan to spend much time in McHenry or away from the house. It seems like you are pretty far away from stuff, not even sure how close you are to the lake, we didn't leave the house. If you're there in the winter you really need 4 wheel drive in this neighborhood, we had a couple of people get stuck. The roads are narrow and hilly. House is beautiful and was very clean when we arrived. We had great time!

Spent a white wonderful New Years and ended up snowed in at Bear Mountain Lodge. What a perfect situation for the 4 couples and crazy single guy. What a beautiful area, we walked around the neighborhood, meet some neighbors and ended up borrowing sleds. A group of adults sledding like 10 year kids doesn't happen often but when your that relaxed it does.
I would recommend this to everyone, but I would suggest you bring a 4 wheel drive or you might be stuck in the winter, if so, make sure you have plenty of drinks :)
