Really nice spot. Quiet and peaceful and the fire pit and unlimited wood was great. 4 young adults had a great time in hot tub, sauna and cooking over open fire. Dogs really had a blast in the lake. Not a big deal but the main TV was stuck on closed caption and the outside ligthts had burned out. We are returning for 3 days at Thanksgiving.

Carmel Cove is a great loation for quieter activities like swimming and kayaking as you are away from the busy, main part of the lake. We could even take some nice walks in the woods surrounding the cove.
Scandanavian Retreat was in good condition, except for the hot tub - which took three visits from the maintenance department to correct. But, it was fixed pretty quickly. We liked having an area surrounded by stones for a camp fire and the deck for grilling and eating just off of the main area.
Checking in and out was a breeze and any knowing someone was there to handle any questions or problems was great. -

Pittsburgh, PAA weekend at the Scandinavian
Left on 06/09/2010 for a stay in May 2010
The Scandinavian retreat was overall a decent place to stay. The location on the lake was very private and made for good fishing and minimal traffic.
The house was just okay, I missed having the view of the lake from the deck, but I take the blame for that. The pool table pictured on the rental guide has seen better days and we spent little to no time in the game room, that was disappointing.
Another issue was the absence of a dock. The house came with a dock slip, but there was no clear indicator as to which dock belonged to the house. Thankfully, the friendly neighbors next door did not have a boat and let us use their dock. A warning for boaters, if the water level is high, there is a good chance you will not be able to get back to the house with your boat. To get there you have to travel under the state park bridge. We have a jet boat that sits low, with the bimini completely flat, we squeaked through.
Overall, I'd say it was just okay. -

I can't say enough positive things about the rental agency, Railey Vacations! They were great and I called several times with questions. Answered quickly and with a good attitude.
We enjoyed our stay there, the week of Christmas. The best thing about the Scandinavian Retreat is the big hottub. Kept warm all the time, so usable at any moment, day or night. Seated about 8, I think.
They listed the property as having a steep driveway and that we might need chains. We had chains, but still couldn't get up the driveway once in there. We had to remove the small trailer we had taken and back our car out and hand push/drag the trailor up. I don't think this driveway is usable. Maybe in the summer?
The TV's are all old-fashioned and small. We had taken our Wii, and couldn't use it.
Knives were unusable. Could have used a stick with as much effectiveness.
There is no handrail on the staircase to the basement. The TV in the basement is in the corner of a high ceiling - and small.
The sleeping arrangements for 6 adults and two children were great. One more child could have stayed there, too. Beyond that, people would be sleeping on pull-out couches.
Bathrooms were nice. Place was relatively clean.

Overall great experience and would love to go back. The house was very open and had plenty of room, yet was very cozy and comfortable. Many relaxing hours were spent in the hot-tub or in front of the fireplace after cold hours on the slopes. The first 1.5 days we had no hot water for showers, but maintenance replaced the water heater quickly and all staff was helpful and pleasant. The driveway is horrible with snow and wasn't plowed much, even a REAL 4x4(not a soccer mom suv)had trouble getting in and out. A word to the wise, don't put money on a billiards game before checking the table, the novelty is nice, but nigh impossible to play as the table top needs replaced.
Even with said minor pitfalls, overall great time, the staff was friendly and helpful and home itself great. As you may guess I am a tough critic, but I will very likely be going back this winter and would very highly recommend checking it out, you will not be disapointed.
