Description from the owner
Villa Fradama is an historical villa built around 1400 in the countryside near Siracusa (south-east of Sicily). It was restored a few years ago and the house has returned to the splendour of the early 20th century. The villa is an Italian historical building as here, under the shade of one of its olive trees, in 1943, was signed the Armistice of Cassibile, after the American landings on the coasts of Sicily.
The villa can host up to 9 people and is therefore perfect for large families and group of friends travelling together. It has 4 bedrooms (2 en-suite) and 4 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a huge dining room where you can r...Read more

The villa is located on a big farm and is therefore surrounded by cultivated fields, an orange garden and an olive grove. It is in the quietest environment as there are no other houses on the premises except for the tenant's house.
The perfect way to reach the villa and be able to explore the surroundings freely is by car as public transportation doesn't get so far in the country.
Private parking for up to 3 cars is in the courtyard.

San Remo, Italyun sogno meraviglioso
Left on 05/21/2013 for a stay in May 2013

London, United KingdomLovely house, great people; fantastic holidays

We chose Villa Fradama because we neeeded the space; it's so much nicer than expected. A section of the house dates from the XVI century (with a moat, thick walls with slits for shooters, a granary at the basement, etc); will all these the house has been refurbished recently with everything you'd expect (dishwasher, air conditioning).
Our 2 year old daughter loved the garden and the rural land that surrounds the house -actually, they grow oranges and olives there, so she harvested as many oranges as she wanted.
The owners (Mario and Liliana) and the people who work there (Franco and Maria) deserve a special chapter: they were incredibly generous to us; from advising on excursions to goat's milk and home made sweets.
Yes, we became fans of Villa Fradama and we recommend it wholeheartedly. -

LondonBrilliant House that is quirky, comfortable and a treat
Left on 04/24/2013 for a stay in March 2013
There were 8 of us ranging from 8 years old to 73 and we stayed over Easter. The owner, Mario, and his sister could not have been more welcoming. They contacted me before we arrived to arrange for the kitchen to be stocked as the shops were closed over Easter. The house has wonderful tall ceilings and every evening the next door farmer came in to light a huge fire. It is not a villa - but it is a historic farmhouse full of interesting pieces of furniture and pictures. The local village is not great, but within 10 minutes drive you are in in the countryside or a busy local town. For a genuine experience of Italy you could not do better.

Ashford, KentFabulous historic house, beautifullly renovated, wonderful atten
Left on 09/15/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We had a wonderful time staying at San Michele. We felt like lords of the manor in this magnificent fortified house, with its baronial-sized rooms and its lovingly-restored interior. To us, it felt as if it hadn't changed in 100 years (apart from electricity and modern fittings in the bathrooms and kitchen). We loved the beautiful furnishings, and the fact that it felt like someone's home rather than an impersonal hotel, especially with the fascinating black and white family photos on the walls. It felt like the family had just stepped outside for a while and left us in charge.
Inside, the attention to detail is amazing, with many original furnishings and beautiful linens.
One thing we particularly liked was that it was a completely different experience from staying in a hotel, many of which, however nice, feel like clones of each other.
There is plenty to explore in the house, with its flat roof with views over the surrounding countryside, and the (dry) moat around the house which is being turned into a garden. There are chairs and table outside if you fancy an evening drink or meal under the sky. All the windows have huge wooden shutters, which can be kept shut to keep out the sun, or left open to let the breeze pass through.
We were made to feel very welcome by the owner, and were provided with an ample selection of groceries when we arrived. Any question or request we had was dealt with quickly and efficiently.
The house is not far from the wonderful city of Syracuse, a short drive to local beaches at aranella and Fontane Bianche, and 10 minutes or so from the main Catania motorway. The local town of Cassibile has a selection of grocery stores and a handful of restaurants. There is also a shady car port to park the car in the main courtyard. This is shared with the caretaker/farmer and his wife who live in a house at the other side of the courtyard. The owners speak some English, one very well.
We are certainly planning to rent this house again next year. -

LondonThe true Sicilian experience, wonderful!
Left on 08/29/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The Villa and its surroundings are truly beautiful. The Villa itself is very comfortable and spacious and everything has been thought off. The bedrooms and bathrooms were extremelly comfortable and clean as was the rest of the Villa. Our two young daughters loved the gardens and had a wonderful time distinguishing the orange trees from the fig trees. The owner was very helpful with any questions we had providing us with useful recommendations etc. From the moment we arrived we were shown true Sicilian hospitality. We will definitely be going back!
