If you want to feel like you are really in Bali, around real Balinese people, not just other tourists, then this is the place for you.
Open vistas in all directions, including ocean view, surrounded by rice fields, you can't help but feel peaceful.

Kubu Kedungu, the beautiful hotel in the middle of the rice fields.
A spacious, airy bedroom with a king size bed, elegant bathroom, cozy living room with a practical kitchen ... an immense luxury to myself, as if I were a princess. The people of the staff are friendly and caring, and spoil me as if I really am one.
A facade of the main building was left open and replaced by thick bamboo blinds. During the day they can be rolled up so you discover a vast panorama of lush green rice fields, in the evening discolored by a romantic sunset.
Before I go to sleep, I sit on the couch for a while. Soothing sounds rise from the rice fields and the small kampong (village). I can hear the sea roar in the distance en let myself get carried away into the most balanced state of mind.
I have a giant bed with crisp, fresh sheets for me alone. There is no pea under the thick mattress and soon I sink into a deep sleep.
6:00 am. Mercury as a fiddle I swap the bed for the pool. Half an hour swimming and under water fun, the whole saltwater pool just for me. To end, a splashing cold rain shower in 'my' bathroom.
Too bad I only have short time to stay in this paradise resort.

The first thing i noticed on arrival to Kubu Kegungu is that i'd found something different, Kubu dosent compete with the luxury villa circuit, it dosent need too...
Set on rice fields and only minutes to the ocean, its a perfect peaceful getaway. No traffic, no crowds, just green surroundings and plenty of space to relax.
The rooms had a nice rustic feel, felt comfortable as soon as i walked in. With two rooms avail its perfect for family or friends to be together, but have your own space..
i stayed two nights and the place really grows on you, the saltwater pool is nice and relaxing and dosent burn your eyes. I checked out the sunset at the beach nearby, just beautiful.
The staff were helpful & pleasant but not in your face or annoying.
The location is just great to get away from the crowded Bali scene but only 20mins if you want to check out the food & bars in nearby Canggu.
Overal, loved my stay & i'll be back again for sure. Thanks to the management & staff :) -

We needed to stay in the Tabanan area to go to a friends wedding. Wanting somewhere quiet, with a pool and not in a built up area Kubu Kedungu suited us well.
We were able to organize transport to the wedding and after match parties through Dan. The salt water pool was lovely. We both had an after breakfast one hour massage by the pool every morning for about $14NZ each. Just what we needed.
Breakfast was very nice. The villa does not serve dinner or lunch and is away from shops. We could get a driver to go somewhere or as we did, we got Dan to pick us up the most healthy takeaways wrapped in leaves and paper (no plastic!). As we ate mainly at the wedding party house this was no problem.
The villa had a full kitchen so self catering would be easy. -

Never had we expected to find such a place on the touristic island of Bali as the Kubu kedungu is.
After a few loud and hectic days at the Hard Rock Hotel in Kuta we knew this was not our location to relax and have a family- time out. Looking for a quiet idyllic spot in the countryside and still close to the sea we were, it had to be authentic and not too touristy giving every member of the family the chance for the holiday activities. And sure did we find the perfect place to stay. Surrounded by rice fields is this set of 4 country homes, including a swimming pool area. all very spacy and with a perfectly working (!) air condition, modern and airy baths, beautiful hand fully furnished bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen and living room large and usable as an additional bedroom if needed. All surrounding a little garden area, private. Motorbikes for rent and meals on demand. A wonderfully friendly team looking after us whenever we had any wish or desire. Nothing did we have to worry about during our stay here.
The two teenage boys went surfing and motorbike riding, searching for wild animals under the cheerful guidance of Wayan. Our girl spent most of the time chilling on the most beautiful open house with a view over rice fields and to the ocean. We were happy to enjoy the sunrise at the beach, breakfast being served in our house, reading and cooling down every now and then in the most beautiful and perfectly temperatures swimming pool we ever enjoyed. Massages in the evening and indonesian dinner. A sightseeing trip every now and then with Wayan. Daniel is the best landlord one can think of. He introduced us to the balinesian culture and to the very open and friendly village people who even shared with us their feasts and celebrations. It was a lifetime experience and the perfect holiday thanks to the Daniel and the people of the kubu kedungu.

Starting from the staff greeting us to the wonderful views of rice fields and distant mountains, this villa was tastefully decorated and the kitchen a joy to use. The fans in the kitchen and living room were a joy to be around, lots of places don't have good fans and it makes one want to stay in the a/z.
The bedrooms were quiet with great blinds and the shower was the best we'd had on our travels. The safe box was a welcome added feature as well as the fastest internet in Bali. Most places skimp on the speed of the server, not here. A library room was a welcome surprise with such a great living room to read in with lots of light and air.
The views out to the ocean from the 2ed floor were delightful. And watching the people work in the rice field fun too. The village is a short (5 min.) walk from the villa and people so friendly as well. Walking on the beach was fun in the morning and what a lovely beach it is (10min away). The kitchen was stocked with the latest applicances and a very nice frig. I throughly enjoyed the lovely salt water pool. Be sure to stop at the grocery store so you will have all your favorite things to eat as you won't want to leave here (ever). -

-the place is unique because its located in the center of rice field which has a fresh environtment. Also in the morning we can find a clear sunrise with little bit fogy so we can get a realy natural view.
-the room is realy clean, the bed, and the room utility is quite complete.
-you need to go to the living room building. The one I stayed its located in separate building, they have kitchen on the 1st floor that I love to stay for a coffee and on the second floor youl found a big wood chair or semi coach face to the telivision with cable programs and dvd. Total entertainment.
I recomend this place for its warmth employe, the comfortable palace and the green environment. Love to get back there. -

First place that i can think of getaways is "Bali" secondly will be "kubu kedungu" Yep, a 30 minutes ride from Kuta to Canggu, escaping the riot to someplace that i would say "a secret hidden villa".
The staffs were friendly and the service was great. I really love how they have different antiques and decor in each rooms, really exotically Indonesia, not to forget the rice field scenery arround the villa. I will deffenetly recommend this place to all pregnant moms like me. Peaceful.

The staff are super friendly and always ready to serve the guests. The view in our villa was the best, surrounded by the rice field over viewing the kedungu beach.
If you're looking for a quiet and secluded place this is the perfect place to stay, especially when you come with your family.
It would be nice to have a phone in each villa so people can order food easily but other than that we had a pleasant stay ... -

Nice surrounding, clean rooms, and lovely people.
The location is a bit far from most touristic place in bali, but it is just perfect for those who wants to spend good quality holiday in quite, calm and relax atmosphere, specially with family.
It is surrounding by Rice field and lot of open space, so some people might get disturb by small animal crossing the floor, or the sounds of frog singing out loud at night. But it is part of the nature beauty for me.
Lastly, the service is a bit slow, but we're in the mood of a relax holiday aren't we? :)

I stayed in Kubu Kedungu as the guest of some close friends who invited us to join them before we began our holiday in our usual hotel in Legain (Our family has been going there for over 10 years).
After 2 days in legian we were straight back up to Kudu Kedungu to get a villa of our own.
The main reasons for this was that it was truly a quiet and relaxing experience, in a truly Balinese Village atmosphere, No traffic, No aggressive sellers, just the local villagers and the very helpful staff.
I come to bali to surf and have been put off by the traffic going to some of my favorite spots like Canggu, but from Kedungu it only takes 10 mins to get there, i was stoked.
When Dan (the american owner) saw me with a surfboard he was only to happy to show me some of the good surf breaks in the area. if the waves were small there were some perfect beach breaks that still picked up good waves, only 5 mins from the villa, i also surfed a sundown session with only me and 2 local kids from the village on my last night there (Special times).
My wife (workaholic) spent a lot of time at the Kubu Kedungu pool, drinking cappuccinos, using WiFi on here laptop, Skyp'ing, or watching cable tv, and sleeping in the a/C bedroom. She commented on return to australia that she felt truly refreshed and relaxed after out trip and that we should do it more often. -

Left on 04/05/2012 for a stay in March 2012

32655An incredible stay in Bali
Left on 04/01/2012 for a stay in March 2012
My stay at Kubu Kedungu (Kubu means a humble dwelling in a rice field) has been an unforgettable experience for us with its simple, elegant and spacious Balinese architecture.
Looking out from our "suite" through the landscaping in our own courtyard at the few workers in the fields of rice (with banana and coconut trees growing along their borders) is like living right in a watercolor painting.
From the airy and bright "T.V. and observation room", with its amazing vaulted Balinese ceiling and outdoor wraparound walkway/deck is where picturesque becomes personal, with its blue-water ocean view and whispering surf sounds. Sunsets are really beautiful from there.
Thankfully, the internet wi-fi is the fastest we have had so far in our 3 months of traveling in asia, and works everywhere, including in your a.c. room. The kitchen/dining area is located in the suite's other building under the observation room, and has a clean new basic kitchen and frig, at our disposal, which is exactly how we prefer it. Some food shopping before hand personalizes every meal and snack.
In the the tropical Balinese climate, there is only one thing (besides a/c) that rhymes with cool ...Pool! The salt water pool is beautifully landscaped and walled for privacy, and is just the right temperature.
The staff is friendly, pleasant, eager and available around the clock...really. They even guided me on a motorbike tour through local villages that ended with a walk on the beach before returning home to Kebu Kudungu.
Each room has a small laptop safe in it. The villa's have a guardroom, a nightly police patrol, a private security officer, and for good measure-nothing gets by the compound dog, and nothing beats a perfect record. Although its a little hard to find call ahead and help with come. There's my story about Kebu Kudengu. Patrick Neely -

BerneLuxurious stay in traditional Balinese village
Left on 03/28/2012 for a stay in March 2012
My girlfriend and I stayed at Kubu Kedungu for two nights. The owner Dan, the manager Wayan, and the staff welcomed us warmly. Whenever we needed something, someone was at our service and was happy to help (be it something about the villa or information about Bali and its culture or trips). If one has a question about the culture, its ceremonies, and customs, Dan is the one to ask.
The interior design of the villas is very stylish with attention to details like traditional furniture, sculptures, pots etc. The open living room and kitchen (well equipped!) are beautiful - we could overlook rice fields as well as see and hear the ocean. Our bedrooms and bathrooms were very modern and luxurious, neatly decorated with fresh exotic flowers.
The shared swimming pool is - unlike most other hotel pools - not full of chlorine but still perfectly clean. However, we spent more time on the nearly empty beach just down the road.
Kedungu is perfect for people who want to stay at a quiet place, where one can still observe the true Balinese way of living. Yet - if it gets too quiet - for shopping, dining, and going out, Canggu, Seminyak and Kuta are not very far away. We rented a scooter through Dan and drove down to these places on our own.
We can totally recommend Kubu Kedungu. We felt very comfortable and could relax perfectly. We're happy to have stayed there and hope to return again. Thanks!

I stayed here for 10 days in December, and was blown away by the hospitality and knowledge of the staff. Breakfast was served every day, and the must have for breakfast is the avocado shake. I had the pleasure of attending a Gamelan practice, and was so close to the beach, i could walk there from my suite. The staff took me to a ceremony that was very cool.
Daniel and his staff made my stay in Bali an experience I will never forget. I highly recommend staying at kubu kedungu if you would like to experience the Balinese culture. Thank you!!

A small place, no bustle, naturalness in
in the middle from rice fields. Really, really wonderful. We enjoyed every day and are already glad about coming again. The rooms clean and everday day decorated with warmth and flowers. The pool, a refreshing place, the cooking delightful. The road to the beach, near by. The villagers, friendly, open and interested.
You need a bike, no problem, you need a car with driver, no problem, you need an idea for your trip around Bali, no problem, you are interested in culture, you want to join a ceremony, like to see traditional dance, no problem, a cooking course, ok.
Whatever you like to do, stay there and Wayan and his crew make it possible.Response from Daniel Rastorfer - 03/15/2012
