Zion, IllinoisBeautiful lodging and property
Left on 09/03/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Loved the house and property! Absolutely beautiful and comfortable. The landscaping was awesome too.
Really easy access to train station but also the train blasting as it crosses the nearby RR tracks several times throughout the night and morning.
Great having access to bikes for the short ride to town!
Wished you had listed availability of washer and dryer.
Thanks for sharing your lodging! -

Decatur GABig House - Beautiful View - great price

Talkeetna is a quaint town. Climbers getting ready to head up Mount McKinley hang out there waiting for their time to ascend. Our family traveled as a group of 8 and wanted to stay together in a house so we could have breakfast together and make sandwiches for lunches. This was the best option we found in the area and the price couldn't be beat. There are a lot of rooms for rent in Talkeetna and the Eye of Denali is like an upscale boarding house. Each of the 3 bedrooms rents individually and has a lock on the door. There are two bathrooms with weird showers(very small) and one of the Ba is inside a bedroom upstairs. The sofa bed in the LR is ouchy uncomfortable and there are no shades so whoever sleeps there needs an eye shield. The kitchen was not well-stocked for bowls and dishes for meals. Everything else was a giant plus. We loved being near the viewpoint for Mount McKinley/Denali, local lakes(Byers Lake & Denali State Park) & hikes, the little restaurants, and friendly people. It is about 3 hours to Denali National Park and on the way we saw bears and Caribou. We had a great time in Talkeetna.

Owner
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to review the Eye of Denali. Im glad that you enjoyed your stay! Im sorry you found the sofa sleeper uncomfortable, although it is fairly new I will take a look and see if it needs replacing. I have purchased a new set of dishes and more cookware. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Also please note to anyone reading this that we rent out the Eye of Denali 2 different ways. You can rent individual rooms OR rent the entire place. All the nights showing availability on the Flip Key web site are for the entire 3 bedroom house. You will not have to share with anyone if you rent this way. Please email us if you have any questions.
Thanks! Karey Larson -

Little Neck, New YorkThis place was awesome

My husband and I were traveling with another couple and we both stayed only one night here and was sorry we couldn't stay longer. Clean, bright, comfortable. The owners have several bicycles for use - we enjoyed riding along the trail near the train. It was quiet and truly peaceful. We brought our own food and was happy to see the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our dinner and to clean up (including a dishwasher).
The beds were really comfortable too. I would stay there again. -

Louisville, KYCool little town off the beaten path

The nicest part about the stay at Eye of Denali Inn was discovering the unique little town of Talkeetna, an old village that is a sporting and recreational hub for local outdoor activities, including climbing Denali (aka Mt. McKinley). Sort of a hippie vibe, which we liked. Great local restaurants and bakeries, three rivers, live music in the town square. The Inn had a great location on the river, backyard with a hammock, well-tended flower pots, etc. but could use a thorough cleaning. The kitchen smelled stale, and the bed linens were tired and in need of updating. Maybe a previous guest had stayed there with pets because the sofa and the bedspread had a definite smell of dogs. Very nice to have bicycles and helmuts available free of charge to ride the wonderful bike trail into town. Unfortunately, it was raining during the only free time we had for riding.

My husband and I needed to 'debrief' from our hectic work schedule in anchorage. We were able to rent the entire main building to ourselves (thank you Christie) and relax in the backyard and listen to the river. The Eye is close enough to Talkeetna to walk but far enough to feel like you are in the sticks! It's a rustic cabin feel with all the amenities.
We took a 2 hour river jet boat trip which was a blast. -

New OrleansMake the Eye of Denali be your first Talkeetna reservation

My wife and I highly recommend the Eye of Denali if you are planning to visit the Talkeetna area. We have been going to the alaska for the past six summers and we make sure that we have this wonderful inn reserved each season. It's close to Denali park and is within walking distance of everything in the quaint village of Talkeetna. We have tried other accommodations but nothing in the area really compares to the Eye for cleanliness, convenience and privacy...and make sure you visit the historic Fairview Inn while you are in Talkeetna.

Loved the Eye of Denali! We were able to cook, and do laundry as well as have a beautiful view of the River and a yard too! very comfy and clean, even had goodies in the fridge for our breakfast!
Town was just a stroll away, so we didn't even need the car. A great little town with music, theater, and history.
