Description from the manager

Talmine is a small hamlet, one of several in this peaceful fishing and crofting community which look north east across the picturesque Tongue Bay. This traditional stone croft house is in a beautiful situation on the clifftops and has the best views in the village to the Rabbit Isles and along the North Coast. Visitors come here to enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the warm welcome from the friendly locals. Talmine village has a beautiful sandy beach with a harbour and jetty - the rocky outcrop that forms part of the harbour is studded with black and ruby garnets. Shops and hotels can be found in the pretty village of Tongue only three mil...Read more

      bad weather

Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in April 2013

The house is nice and the heating fast. It was absolutly cold in when we arrived. Clean and nice, bur it would be helpfull to have some informations about the many swiches and how to regulate the heating. There is a nice bathroom but really less hot water for the tub. To stay there with 5 adults means to cook hot water and carrie it to the tub. After a long day out with hiking this is hard work. First we had to do is to repair the roof of the wintergarden for the gass slides down and the rain came in. We had bad luck with hte weather, but without all this we had a good time there. For anyone from far south it wuld be great to have curtains that make the sleepingroom dark, as in the corridor. Cause of the light we was up early untill we found out to hang a blanket over the window. Informations about many things are there, but really less about hiking and walking ways. Maybe there are non, I don't know.

      A place to relax

Left on 09/03/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Superb views across to the islands from the lounge with really colourful sunrises across the water. The village store stocks all essentials for your stay. We had a problem with the hot water but this was immediately sorted by the owner who was most helpful. The cottage was aaccurately described in the holiday literature and provided and a very peaceful atmosphere in which to unwind.

Very pleasant but a few niggles

Left on 07/05/2012 for a stay in June 2012

The cottage is well placed, within walking distance of 2 beaches and with lovely views across the bay. The property is generally very good, with cosy lounge and spacious conservatory, but a few minor issues: broken fridge shelves & chair; bedroom door that cannot be opened from the inside; upstairs toilet only just flushed; too many cupboards full of linen and cleaning materials (particularly in the kitchen). Nothing that couldn't be sorted by the owner in a day...

      Wonderful views

Left on 10/01/2011 for a stay in September 2011

This cottage was fine for two people not sharing a room, I think it would have been too small for five. It would have been nice if the boiler ( hot water)had been left on, it took us 24hours to get it sorted. The area was perfect, we were more than satisfied with the walking there. We were told that there were bikes behind the cottage but the tyres were flat.

A comfortable stay in an amazing setting

Left on 09/17/2011 for a stay in August 2011

The situation of the cottage and the views across the sea are fabulous. The accomodation was comfortable and we especially enjoyed the conservatory. The local bays and beaches were stunning with excellent walking from the cottage. we felt the cottage lacked a few of the homely touches that we have found in other holiday cottages. For example some more detailed visitor information on the local area such as shops and opening times would have been helpful. Also there was insufficient toilet roll for the two bathrooms. However, these are only minor points and overall the accomodation was very good and we enjoyed our stay, especially the fantastic views and scenery. We would definitely return to this property and the surrounding area.

      Remote location with stunning scenery

Left on 05/19/2011 for a stay in April 2011

The cottage was comfortable and warm (after we bled the radiators!) However, we rather expected a change of bed linen and towels after the first week.
Location was great - good views and good walks from the front door.
Could not get the DVD to work - a set of instructions would have been helpful.

We have stayed in this cottage in May 2009 and 2010 and had a wonderful holiday on both occasions. The cottage is in excellent condition and has plenty of seating for guests. The views from the windows areoutstanding. We saw dolphins and whales in the bay. It is In sn excellent area for walking. The Craggan Inn is well worth a visit for a meal or just a drink .We intend visisting again in the not too distant future.

Lovely location with amazing sea views, well equiped 3 bedroom cottage, with most modern cons.
Locals very friendly, if you are of Mackay heritage, there are plenty of "relatives " around.
Close to Tongue Village[ 5 minute drive]
Make sure you go to nearby Craggan Hotel for meals, wonderful food at reasonable prices.
Overall the base for a memorable holiday.
