Not Toddler or Senior Friendly
Mountain Home IdahoNot Toddler or Senior Friendly
Left on 09/03/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We spent a week with our children and grandchildren. We were disappointed that the beach/dock access was not as it appeared in the photos. There is no lawn, the deck was about 5 feet above the yard with no railing very dangerous - it was open underneath the deck with corregated metal poking through. There is a partial walkway to the beach but 50% of the path is over large boulders = too big for a toddler or a senior to easily manuever. The beach is about a 25 Foot drop off from the house level. We usually spend all day at the beach on the lake in the boat but this year I was unable to enjoy activities because it was too difficult to get there. They advertise a king bed but we found only a queens. The stairway to the upper level was open with no railing to prevent a toddler from falling through. Definately bring your own water - it tastes and smells bad. I'm not sure if it is the water or rusty pipes. Our clothes were stained and smelled bad when we washed them. We even used bottled water to brush our teeth.

This guest has some legitimate complaints and is correct on some of her observations.
The crescent beach that appears in the photos is the exact beach that is in front of the home. However, we make it very clear, depending on the time of year, the beach can be smaller or larger depending on the amount of snow runoff from the previous winter that fills the lake. We also make it very clear that all of the homes on this side of the lake sit well above the lake level and you cannot just walk out to the beach. It is a good 25-30 feet down a carved rock/wood staircase to get down to the beach. The photos that we have on our website do show the stairs and rocks down to the beach.
There is no lawn, the area is natural with large ponderosa pines and natural grasses. No where do we state or show in photographs this home has a manicured lawn. In fact we do show photos of the home from the backview which truly show the naturalscape.
The home is not the perfect home for small children or elderly and we totally agree with this statement. The home has many staircases from the entryway, throughout the house, out to the beach and a large wrap-around deck without a hand-railing. We show this in our photography as well. Older homes doe not have to meet current regulations and we do show the deck without railings on our website.
There are two king beds, one in each bedroom, plus a queen bed and two twins. There is also a queen sleeper sofa. The beds are all brand new (less than 2 years old) so I don't know what the guest is talking about as far as bedding.
The stairscase to the upper level has a hand railing on the east side attached to the wall and the stairs are open facing the living room on the west side. Any toddler going up or down any stairs needs to be watched, however there is no wall protecting a toddler from falling through if they are not holding onto the hand-rail.
All of the homes around the lake are on well water. If you are use to only city water and not well water, it does taste funny. It does not mean its not clean. This home had an older water softener system as the home is at least 40 years old and since this guest's stay the homeowner has upgraded the water softener and filtration system in homes of preventing the well water taste and smell. We have addressed this complaint.
I agree with several of the statements made by this guest and always suggest to anyone renting a vacation home to give the management company a lot of details about family members. Had I known this guest was traveling with elderly and small children it would have given us a chance to recommend another home, or bring some of these items to their attention. We do our best to photograph all angles of the home, grounds, in this case beach and boat dock, so that we are as honest as possible when showing what the home looks like from both the interior and exterior.
