We were in Tamarindo during Semana Santa which is a crazy, busy time of year. Harry's was a short walk away from all the craziness of the main strip. At Harry's we were able to relax and enjoy the beauty of Tamarindo from the roof top deck. The only noises that could be heard were the howler monkeys, cicadas, and abundant bird life - pura vida. The cabinas offer basic accomodation with the added bonus of a kitchenette. We enjoyed having the option of cooking for ourselves, although there are numerous restaurant choices nearby. My husband loved the free surfboards and we used the bikes to explore some of the backroads. Harry's is a very casual place to hang out... and did I mention how refreshing the pool was for a quick cool off?

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The cabinas were excellent and provided everything we needed. The pool, gardens, hammocks, and shade provided the ultimate relaxation environment and the upstairs deck with BBQ was perfect for dinner and drinks. Harry is the most righteous guy you'll ever meet. He was great to hang out with, and provided us with all sorts of excellent advice. The availability of bikes and surfboards was a huge bonus and saved us some cash. All in all it was a fantastic spot and I can't wait to get back there.

We stayed at Harry's in January 2013 and had a wonderful time. Harry's cabina (blue room) had everything we needed, with a kitchen, bath, bed, and patio, and the layout was great. The pool was wonderful - we lounged there often using the floats he had. There is a great balcony area that overlooks the jungle, where we would grill and hang out with Harry/guests at night. The place was perfect for us, only a short walk to the beach, and having the surfboards there was a big plus. Harry was a huge help to us, with tips on where to eat, shop, drink (Nogui's) and surf. He helped us book tours/adventures, and we were happy with all his recommendations. We watched monkeys eat mangos in the trees from his cabinas and ate pummelos grown onsite each morning. We highly recommend Harry's El Escondite and will be back again some day.

This is a great little property run efficiently by the affable Harry and his partner, Don't, who is in charge of security. Don't is a dog.
The cabinas are well-appointed and basically have everything you need except food - easily obtained at various grocery stores in the village. Perhaps the best (and closest) is 2001 (happily, this store has tonic water if you are a vodka drinker, as well as limes!)
Each cabana has its own patio and then there are common areas surrounding the plunge pool, which is great! The upstairs sun deck is a great place to read and contains a dining table and chairs with an outdoor kitchen with barbeque, which is a nice touch.
Harry's is located up inn the hills above the town just on the edge of the jungle so there is all sorts of interesting vegitation and sound of howler monkeys (although we didn't see any this trip.) It's maybe a 10 minute walk to the village down the hill and along the oiled dirt roads until you reach the main road, which is paved. Don't look for sidewalks here. Do look for holes in the road, etc. This is no trouble as long as you watch where you walk. Harry rides his bike everywhere. You can too.
Tamarindo itself has a nice beach vibe, sort of a former hippie heaven and very much a surf town. Fabulous beach and good waves if you're a surfer. Lots of beach shopping if you're a fan , many surf shops as you might expect and a large variety of restaurants, from casual beach to fairly formal (for Tamarindo, that is) One of the best, if not the best restaraunt is just steps from Harry's, called Season's. Highly recommended but remember they don't take cards. At the other end of the scale there's a great footlong place on the main street with different kinds of salsa, just next to a booth selling ive cream and smoothies. Yum!
We ate fish for much of our trip. really good fresh fish of all kinds.
I would stay at Harry's again. In fact, I've tentatively rented all three cabinas for Christmas week 2013.
The is a great, laid back place for people who don't want to do the all-inclusive thinkg and enjoy their independence. Another advantage, you get to see and experience more of Tamarindo and its' Ticos by staying in the community.
By the way, Xplore has a good officer here and provides very reasonable transportation to and from the Liberia airport.
If you go, give my regards to Don't! -

Harry's place is a true gem in Tamarindo. It's location is off the beaten path, but not too far that you can't walk to just about anywhere you want to go in town. We stayed in the blue cabina for 8 days and truly enjoyed the relaxed setting, the pool, our patio and the rooftop deck. We went to Tamarindo to surf and this was the first time we didn't bring our own boards. I was a little nervous to see what Harry would have to offer, but I absolutely loved the 9'2" Hobie and the selection was great. The bikes were a plus also when we just wanted to take a quick trip in the morning to check the surf. We liked having a full kitchen so we could save some money by cooking at home. Harry was also very accommodating. When my flip flops got stolen off the beach the first day, he had an extra pair that he lent me. Overall, one of our favorite vacations yet.

Stayed 8 nights at Harry's and loved every bit of it! Harry helped us book tours, gave us CR info and hung with us during our stay. If you want laid back but still able to socialize, this is the place. Everything we needed was provided, dishes, BBQ, laundry, just to name a few. If we make it back to tamarindo, this will be the place!

It was truly the best vacation ever. We only stayed at Harry's for 4 nights but loved everything about it. It is a little further away from the beach than anticipated, but great place nontheless. We didnt get to use the boards as it was too much of a pain to drag them to the beach, but we sure used the bikes to go to the local fish market and bring it back. Harry has a spectacular upper deck with grill, table, utencils etc. Full kitchen in the cabina with everything you need to make yourself at home. I mean Harry even had milk in our fridge to make my morning coffee. A smart TV is definitely a nice touch, however we didnt get a chance to use it and the main thing - AC! Cools down the place in minutes. Definitely a recommended spot! Thank you Harry! Marina and I will be back!

My boyfriend and i got back from Harry's about 2 weeks ago and we still haven't stopped talking about it, Tamarindo was our best vacation ever! Harry's place was everything we were looking for, very laid back, the cabinas were very spacious and had everything we needed ie; air conditioner, full kitchenette, a huge shower, wireless internet, satellite t.v. ( if you even have time to watch), king size bed, etc..Our cabina had privacy and beautiful greenery and plants all around not to mention the pool and the roof top deck with bbq, where many nights we just hung out having some drinks..Harry has lots of bikes and surf boards for free use at any time which is key and a bike is all you need to get around in Tamarindo...
Our next vacation was gonna be australia next year but after staying at Harry's we scrapped that idea and we're going back to Tamarindo and Harry's El Escondite!
We couldn't ask for anything more, the weather, the amazing beaches(especially if you don't like crowds),the food and it's safe, the people who live here are so friendly!, and you can't beat the price! -

We stayed at Harry's Escondite for almost 2 weeks from Nov to Dec 2011.
We had agreat time and we found that the rooms were clean and well maintained. The grounds are well kept and clean. The pool is refreshing and plenty of hammicks to lounge around on. Harry just completed a second floor lounge and BBQ area that is a great place to lounge and eat, drink, view monkeys and birds, etc.
Harry has plenty of surf boards and bikes to use during your stay and they are a great advantage to have at your disposal. No need to rent boards or bikes is a plus!
We will definately come back and stay at Harry's Escondite!! -

We stayed in the orange cabina for 5 days and enjoyed every minute. Harry's provides a real Costa Rica get away with the beautiful natural setting and his relaxed manner. Our cabina was comfortable and provided all of the comforts of home. It was nice having a/C when we needed it. Don't the dog got to know us the first day and greeted us with a smile and wagging tail from there on. The cat liked getting to know some new folks too. We felt very safe at Harry's and will stay there and nowhere else. Thanks Harry for the great local advice and nice stay in Tamarindo.

Harry's was great!! My wife and I had a terrific vacation due to Harry's hospitality and local know-how. Harry took the time to walk us through Tamarindo on our first day to show us around. Any advice Harry gives about local cuisine, surf spots or tours is golden. The cabina we stayed in (green) was super clean and the a/c made everything comfortable. We loved the pool and used the bikes and surfboards everyday. We would go back to Harry's in a heartbeat. Thanks again Harry!!

Left on 07/23/2010 for a stay in July 2010
Harry's built 4 comfortable cabinas (cottages) within walking distance of Tamarindo's best surf. They're clustered around a lush garden, patio, and pool that you will love when you're not out surfing the break's or on an adventure tour.
We came down to surf so having close to a dozen free boards to choose from was great. They're in good condition and range from short boards to long boards with mini-mals and fish in between.
Harry keeps everything in clean and in good working order. The cottage's kitchen has your basic electro-domestics and he's even got a laundry room although we didn't use it in the one week we stayed.
Not only was it a great value but it was a great experience. -

thank you so very much for all the hospitality and the great times when we were in tamarindo. we absolutely loved staying at your cabinas and hope to be added to your "repeat offenders list". the free surfboards and bikes are a great perk and saved us a ton of colones. the blue cabina was clean, comfortable and the shower was great. our favourite part was definately the pool area. we spent a lot of time in the pool both during the day and especially at night. with the cabina being a little bit secluded really made the night time swim under the stars awesome. we didnt mind the walk from the cabina to the beach either. it was great having "don't" around too. we would definately recommend your cabina to anyone thinking of visiting tamarindo and truely hope to return soon. thanks again harry...we had a blast!!!

Tamarindo is a a little crowded but Harry's is just outside of that. Nice and
quiet but a stone's throw away from everything. He's got free bikes and
surfboards to use. You get a porch, hammocks, and a small pool to cool off
in. Our bed was really comfortable in the blue cabina and there's a safe in the
room for passports, etc. The guard dog is awesome - his name is "Don't" and
he loves guests. Harry is very accommodating and is happy to give advice on
whatever (especially surf spots in all kinds of weather). Great place. -

Two friends and their collective four sons could make for a hectic vacation but not this time! We rented the orange and blue cabinas and put the four boys in one and ourselves in the other. The accommodations were clean and cool - important since it was 100 degrees fahrenheit just about everyday! We lounged in the pool, swung in the hammocks, and spent a relaxing 6 days with Harry, the kitty and the dog named Don't. We used the surfboards and the bikes and were impressed with how welcoming and patient Harry was even with 3 teenage boys and one almost teen. Great restaurant and beach recommendations too! Thank you, Harry!

My two teenage sons and my friend with her two teenage sons stayed at
Harry's for spring break. The boys took the blue cabino and the moms had
the orange. It worked great. Definitely nothing fancy but they were clean
and adequately equipped. Harry has surf boards and bikes which were
utilized daily.
The place is a short walk to the beach and town. I actually like the location a
lot and would prefer it to being right in town. Everything is within walking
distance so no car is needed. We also all loved Don't the dog and the no
name kitty cat. If you are missing a flip flop or shoe, be sure to check with
Don't because he likely took it to his favorite hiding place out back. The
monkeys were also entertaining!
If you are a resort type vacationer, this isn't the place for you. If you prefer
to get a local's perspective and just kick back and relax for a while, Harry's
is perfect. -

Harry is the best host around. El Escondite has everything you need for your
stay in Tamarindo. The Cabinas are always super clean and equipped with
complete kitchens, bathrooms with showers, t.v.'s with dvd players, air
conditioners, safes for your valuables and more. Harry's El Escondite is just
steps away from restaurants, shops and the beach. If you don't like walking,
Harry has numerous bikes which are included in your rent. Also included are
many surfboards of different sizes to suit all levels from begginers to pros. Not
a surfer? Harry can set you up with local tour companies that offer activities for
everyone and every interest. If you don't want to discover Costa Rica, feel free
to lounge around the cabinas. After testing out the shell shaped pool and the
many hammocks, you may never leave the comforts of El Escondite. -

Staying at Harry's El Escondite was incredible! I felt at home @ Harry's almost instantly.
El Escondite is comfortable, clean & quiet. Harry was so helpful...informing us of where to shop for groceries, good restaurants...hooking us up with a Catamaran tour etc.
Harry gave me with some terrific surf lessons...& he provided me the sweetest board I could have asked for. He showed me so many things...I was tearing around town on my bike...sometimes with surfboard in hand!
I would come home late after hanging out with friends & the motion lights would come on...I ALWAYS felt safe. The cutest dog in the world would be there to greet me & the cat would wait for me sometimes too.
I am planning on coming back ASAP & the ONLY place I will stay is Harry's...I even had my friends calling me @ the cabina to hang out...it was just AWESOME...truly my home away from home.
Also worth mentioning...I was in what felt like my own private pool everyday...the pool rocks!
The coolest pad in town is Harry's...the best hidden place I have ever been! -
