Nestled on a hilltop in the midst of a lush, tropical garden and immaculately kept coconut plantation, The Teak House is one of Sri Lanka's South Coast's most romantic and serene villa hideaways. If you are seeking complete privacy or even solitude within moments of an unspoilt Indian Ocean beach, The Teak House offers luxury and privacy in equal measure.
From its elevated position overlooking Seenimodera beach, the villa's vast bedrooms and open plan living benefit from the constant breezes coming from the Indian Ocean below. Hidden from view, the villa, constructed entirely of teak - one of Sri Lanka's sustainable hardwoods - is relaxed and incredibly comfortable. Lying in one of the six foot, four poster beds, wreathed in fine white mosquito nets, you can see and hear the constant rhythm of the Indian Ocean.
Completed in September 2014, The Teak House now offers a truly beautiful infinity pool. Swim in the shadow of coconut trees and watch the waves crashing on the beach below. After a long time (as they say in Sri Lanka), the new pool is heavenly - for those who want to do their laps or those who simply want to raise an evening cocktail in the cool of the water. Enjoy.
Planted with an exotic collection of wonderful tropical flora, The Teak House garden has become a haven for a stunning collection of tropical birds. Woodpecker, peacocks, birds of paradise, kingfisher and the busy chit chat birds luxuriate in its lush profusion. Sea eagles hover above and, as dusk falls and a dark tropical night descends, fireflies light up the sky.
Renowned as one of the Sri Lanka's most picturesque and unspoilt sandy beaches, Seenimodera offers safe swimming all year round and incomparable walking. Stroll across to neighbouring Mahawella beach, a horseshoe shaped bay of over 3 km, long celebrated by CN Traveller magazine.

Response from the owner It is sometimes difficult to understand why people behave in a certain manner. When these guests returned from The Teak House, they wrote the following by way of email to us: "We had a wonderful vacation! I have travelled extensively around the World, and I have to say that the three weeks we enjoyed at The Teak House qualifies as one of the top places I have ever been to. Our expectations were surpassed in almost every way possible. The house itself is a wonderfully minimalistic creation with warmth and caring built into the walls. The attention to detail blends perfectly with the rustique charm of simple craftsmanship. The bedroom is airy and comfortable, the shower was great. The garden is a perfect place to sit and enjoy the closeness to the nature, with all kinds of flora and fauna. The beach is picture perfect with pure fine-grained sand and the sea is clear and temperate, and we had it almost exclusively to ourselves - save a few fishermen and the occasional kid. Tangalle is a charming little place. We loved the markets and bought everything we didn't recognize and had poor Roshan prepare it for us. There are plentiful experiences and excursions of exceptional experiential value - close encounters with leopards, elephants, sea turtles and blue whales. Cultural experiences at Kataragama, Hanundugoda and Galle. We fell in love with the ladies at Dickwella Lace and pretty much cleared out their stock. Roshan's cooking was superb (a good thing, since the restaurants we tried were really quite awful!), and we didn't lack anything. There is an amazing range of exotic and exciting fresh produce to explore. Ruan was a quiet, but pleasant presence and he drove us diligently to wherever we wanted to go - although I could see that he thought us odd at times (eg when we wanted to go for a ten minute ride to try out a roadside hopper place). All in all: when I write my book - this is where I will want to be for a few months to get it done." They also said that a small amount of damage had been done to a couple of items of clothing they had hung in the cupboard. This has never happened to our clothing or to other guests' clothing before and we took the incident very seriously indeed. We did not understand why they did not make a claim on their travel insurance however. Nonetheless, after much toing and froing, we made a payment to them as a gesture of goodwill. They never acknowledged that payment which surprised us. That was all more than three months ago. It is always disappointing when someone decides to write a review such as this but, since it has never happened before, we shall put it down to experience.
