      Luxury on Tankah Bay

Left on 04/02/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Villa Orquidea is nothing short of marvelous. The property is magnificent, with finishes of the highest quality, and furnishings to match. No detail has been overlooked. Jose attended to our every need, despite the fact that his wife Marisol was staying with her mother in Akumal, in anticipation of the imminent birth of their second child. Jose and sister Anna prepared fabulous dinners and breakfasts. Don't miss the chiles rellenos, and the huevos rancheros. Jose's Mexican Flag after dinner drink is a must do! Colorful, flamboyant, fun, and tasty. We kayaked out to the reef every day, where the snorkeling was some of the best we've ever experienced. All manner of colorful tropical fish; even a sea turtle, langosta, and several nurse sharks. Large schools of small fish (chub?), 1,000 or more at a time. With pleasant security personnel unobtrusively keeping an eye on things at night, we always felt safe. We enjoyed pizza and Caribbean Fish at the Blue Sky, where Leo runs a great restaurant. Tankah Bay is a beautiful, quiet setting. No high rises or mega resorts. Perfect! Direct access into the water is difficult, and you'll want sturdy Tevas, Keens, or surf shoes for beach walking. The beach is not really a walking beach, though we did walk all the way down to Dreams. Day trips to Akumal Bay, the Tulum ruins, and the Tulum beaches provided some nice variety; and we were always happy to return to our haven on Tankah Bay. I would strongly recommend Villa Orquidea to anyone who is seeking a luxury, beach front vacation, with all the amenities of home.

      Escape to Paradise

Left on 02/14/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Villa Orquidea is a perfect escape from the hussle & bussle of many popular vacation destinations -- a true hidden paradise! The villa is close enough to many exciting excursions, but also allows for total relaxation if that's what you need.

      Nice and relaxing

Left on 12/13/2011 for a stay in November 2011

We had a great time. It went mostly very well. I would have rated it higher if the service had been more professional. However, being a remote beach area in Mexico, I should have adjusted my expectations accordingly. All in all, we enjoyed our vacation very much and the house was wonderful.

      Family Vacation and Celebration

Left on 06/22/2011 for a stay in June 2011

The family of twelve had a great time. The Casitas were also used. The house was well equipped to entertain the group.
The location was great for water activites and adventures. We did a lot of the cooking and enjoyed shopping in Tulum and Aukmal.

      Fabulous oceanfront retreat

Left on 02/09/2011 for a stay in March 2010

If you are looking for the vacation of a lifetime, this is the place. We spent Spring Break there with friends and everything was perfect. First, you are right on the beach, and all three bedrooms are oceanfront. The water is very calm and the snorkling is perfect. Plus, there's kayaks available to get out on the water. There is also a great pool between you and the ocean if lounging poolside is your idea of the perfect vacation. There is also a cute guest house (also oceanfront) on the property if you have a larger group. If the perfect place for the grandparents or the couple with an infant.

The house is first class and very tastefully decorated. You can tell someone with a true sense of style put it all together. Yet, it is also very comfortable with lots of various areas to kick back and just read a book. A friend often says you should always rent a home nicer than your own home while on vacation, and this certainly fit the bill!

I also loved the location. Tulum is just a 10-minute ride. It's a neat town with a mix of upscale and local flavor. Plus, you can walk (or kayak) to two fun restaurants -- Blue Sky and Casa Cenote -- right from Villa Orquidea. Lunch on the beach at Casa Cenote is a must -- the fresh fish is fabulous -- followed by snorkling in the fresh water cenote next door. Add an outdoor dinner on the romantic Blue Sky patio and it is the perfect day.

      thrilled with Orquidea

Left on 01/05/2011 for a stay in December 2010

We loved our stay!!Your home is truly wonderful. We traveled with my 93 year old father and 89 year old mother who found it totally comfortable relaxing and enjoyable. My 30 year old and 25 year old children loved staying in their own private quarters in the casita. The home's design, layout and furnishings are super lovely and very comfortable..bedding , linens ,tableware ,furniture. First class all the way. Loved the cross ventilation in the interior, the views, just everything was terrific!!!
      Thank you so much.
Just to give you room for improvement..we did have trouble with the internet more often than not. my folks were disappointed that you lost dish network as they were planning on watching the packer game..but my brother had brought Cd's down so we were able to entertain ourselves that way when in need of our tv fix.
Jose and maria were lovely and made some tasty Mexican lunches for us . it was great having the maid service which usually doesn't come with a rental home , in my experience.
I have visited the area before but can confirm for new guests to the area -there is much much to do in the mayan Riviera and one never needs to travel more than 30 minutes from the house to take it all in!
Happy new year and thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. we will have great memories of our vacation at villa oquidea!!

      luxurious home

Left on 12/28/2010 for a stay in December 2010

this is a very beautiful and exceedingly comfortable new home that has every amenity . it is a total delight to stay in. the traveller should know it is down a bumpy gravel road(that runs along tankah bay (where other luxury homes are located). a reef surrounds the bay so entrance to water for swimming is not ideal but typical for Akumal and Soliman Bay. This location holds much interest for those who want to kayak, snorkel and dive or explore nearby ruins, adventure and eco-parks or sunbathe on the flawless beaches of tulum. I doubt there is a more wonderful home base from which to enjoy the many pleasures of the mayan riviera than villa orquidea!

Left on 11/15/2010 for a stay in November 2010

Please read these as areas the owner could improve - not criticisms (we did enjoy the tripa and the property:
Hot water was only warm. asked Jose to turn up but little change
Kitchen knives way too dull for any cooking
Dogs barked all night on several days. kept several in our party awake
Complementary meals and cooking services not clear. Jose does not understand or explain well. ( we missed the complementary meal )
On a positive note the bedding, towels, cleanliness were all excellent.

      Orquidea

Left on 10/18/2009 for a stay in October 2009

Fantastic house in a wonderful location with (almost) everything you could possibly need provided. The only things missing were a dishwasher and snorkeling equipment which is a must to enjoy the undersea life in the bay and on the reef near the house. The house was not ready when we arrived (some confusion over dates), but the on-site staff quickly remedied that situation. Occasional problems (wi-fi and safe combination setting) were quickly resolved. Expect the occasional power outage - normal for the region. Close to wonderful beaches at Tulum and in Sian Ka'an Biosphere. Overall, very highly recommended.
