washington dcOur home in Taormina!
Left on 06/11/2013 for a stay in May 2013
The location is perfect! An easy walk to the Main Street, restaurants, etc,and yet in a quiet residential area. Claudio was most helpful in arranging restaurant reservations, and his suggestion of hiring a chef, Ignazio, to shop with us, and then show us how to prepare a Sicilian feast was one of the highlights of our stay!

DublinGreat location, great welcome, great craic!!!
Left on 04/14/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We were travelling with our 12 year old and 14 year old and they aren't always easy to please but everyone really enjoyed their stay here. We have travelled a lot but have rarely got a welcome as good as this anywhere in the world.
The apartment itself is bright and roomy. The furniture a bit odd, given the size of the apartment, but the view more than makes up for it and it is really conveniently located just a few minutes from the main street and 200metres from a really good restaurant - the Tiramisu.
Claudio met us on arrival but we had much more dealings with his brother Iggy and his business partner angelo. We did a cookery course with Iggy which was brilliant fun. We went to the market with him in the morning to buy all our supplies, that evening he came back and showed us how to cook a five course meal. Iggy is quite a character. The evening was great craic and the food was excellent.
The following day I searched in town for a tour to Mount Etna, but because it was out of season they only did tours on Tuesday and Saturdays. We had missed Tuesday and were leaving on Saturday so decided to go with angelo. Iggy came along for the fun. He picked us up in the morning with in a people carrier/van. Our first stop was for pastries, coffee and sorbets at a 19th century cafe in a village en route to Mount Etna. We then visited honey producers and toured the craters stopping for snow fights on the way. We had coffees and juice at 1pm and then made our way around the mountain to a vineyard on the north side of the mountain for wine tasting and lunch. Pasta was cooked especially for the kids. We got home about 5.30 and later that evening Iggy brought over a disc of photos from the two days.
When we were leaving the following day, Iggy came over on his motorbike to lead me down through the narrow streets towards the motorway, just to make things easier. Driving in Sicily is a bit daunting!
I have to say, Iggy, Angelo and Claudio could not have been more helpful. It was really a pleasure spending time with them. They made our trip to Sicily. -

Boston, MABest Vacation Ever!
Left on 02/10/2013 for a stay in December 2012
Taormina is absolutely one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and this apartment was the perfect home base to explore. Claudio was extremely attentive to our needs and was easily reached whenever we needed him.
The house was perfect for our group of 7 adults. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and dishes, the views were fantastic- even the bedrooms that don't face the sea look out on to a wonderful tiered patio area- and the beds were very comfortable. There's also a tiny laundry off the patio which was hugely helpful. We were given two sets of keys which was fantastic as that meant we could wander around in smaller groups instead of one, or with rigid times when someone had to be back at the house to make sure others could get in.
About 2 minutes away on foot is a market with food, wine, and soap, paper towels, etc. There's also a farmer's market around the corner- don't miss the fresh sausage! There's a great little pizza place across from the market for quick lunches. And while cooking with such fresh food in a well-appointed was a joy, make sure you have dinner at least once at arco di Cappuchini.
From here it's only another 2-3 minutes to the Corso Umberto and stunning views from the Piazza (the Wunderbar is kind of a rip-off, but have a drink on the patio just for the experience! You'll feel like an old-time movie star!).
The house is all one floor, but there is a set of stairs you must walk down to get in and out of the house, so maybe this isn't the right house for someone with mobility issues, but other than that, the layout is fantastic and gave us all plenty of space- we never felt like we were on top of one another.
We're already trying to figure out how soon we can get back to Taormina and Casa alessandro! -

LondonClose to town centre, very big but something missing
Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in September 2012
The apartment was very roomy - we were two families with 3 young children and there was plenty of room for all of us. And it was a 5min walk to town and the cable car, which was really convenient. After being shown around when we first arrived we didn't see Claudio again, but he was very responsive to all my emails prior to booking & arrival. Unfortunately we asked for a bath plug (so that we could bath the kids more easily) but only got it the day before we left (we asked for it on the first day). The gate to the apartment was extremely difficult to open to the point that I never even bothered to try it. We also would've loved a mop to clean the floors (the babies would end up black after a few minutes of crawling) but all we had was a broom. We did use the pool at the hotel opposite, they charged 5 euros per adult which made it more affordable than going to the beach and far more convenient being just across the road. We did have a great time and the apartment was reasonably priced so I guess you have to weigh it all up. I wouldn't say don't go but perhaps not great for families with young kids.

Hi Sonia,
yes i know about the gate, had some problems with other clients but now we changed the lock and it works perfecly. thanks for the advising, we have now provided the apartment with the mop. I came to the house 3 times to check how you were but couldnt find you sorry. About your kids i am sorry but in the past we had many children and nobody complained. My mum 40 years a go was washing me in a plastic tube and i am here fully alive and in good health:) 1 of the bathrooms has a bathtube anyway which is good to wash babies
About the beach, if you would have looked at the review i have received before you would understand. There i mention that the centre of Taormina is not near the sea. I REPEAT THIS FOR ALL NEW GUESTS: The town is on a hill and the sea can be reached or by car or by the funicular. The seaside has no amusements, it is nice in the day but in the night there is nothing to do. Staying at the sea will force you, if you want to go out in the evening, to take the cable car to go back to your apartment and cable car runs till 1 in full summer while it stops at 8 in spring. It is much better to stay in the centre, enjoying the sea in the day and after that you come back, take a shower and enjoy all the attractions of Taormina like the main street, the Greek Theatre and all bars and pubs:)
In the end i am happy that you liked the house and i appreciate the fact that the money you paid was worth:)
ciao

TorontoWonderful apartment, walk to Taormina Centre
Left on 07/17/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed 6 nights in this beautiful apartment. The large windows open to showcase the wonderful view of the coastline. The bedrooms are large and are air conditioned. The ample living room and kitchen provide a nice place to relax. We parked our car in the apartment's parking area and did not use much since the apartment is so close to the centre of Taormina. This was indeed the best feature of the apartment: being able to walk 3-4 minutes to the centre for meals or to just wonder the old city. Despite its close proximity, the apartment is very quiet and we were able to get great sleep there. This is a wonderful apartment with lots of space and a great location.

Houston, TXFantastic Vacation in Taormina
Left on 07/16/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I spent two weeks in June with my two grown kids at Casa alessandro, and we loved it. The pictures say it all - the view from the balcony is incredible, and the house is roomy and comfortable. A 5 minute walk gets you to the main street (Corso Umberto I). There is a small grocery store and butcher on the way, in case you want to do some cooking. The beach is a bit farther, and you will probably want either a car or the bus for that. There is also a cable car to a public beach (Mazzaro).
Claudio and his brother are terrific, and we were instant friends. They made sure we had everything we needed, and they showed us the warm hospitality that Italians are famous for. They also run several tours - for us they arranged a cooking lesson at the home of a friend of theirs in Taormina, and it was one of the highlights of the trip!
I will be back to Sicily and Taormina in the future and when I do I will definitely give Claudio a call!Response from Claudio Byron - 07/17/2012

yes thanks Leonard to explain something important about Taormina:)
First of all you have to know that the centre of Taormina is not near the sea. The town is on a hill and the sea can be reached or by car or by the funicular. The seaside has no amusements, it is nice in the day but in the night there is nothing to do. Staying at the sea will force you, if you want to go out in the evening, to take the cable car to go back to your apartment and cable car runs till 1 in full summer while it stops at 8 in spring.
