Additional Location Information
Nestled high in the Sangre De Cristo mountains, this vacation property is the highest in Taos Ski Valley. We are pleased to have the BEST mountain views in the entire valley. Just sit on the deck and take in the 180-degree panoramic view of the mountain peaks, tress, and sky. It is within sight of the Williams Lake Trailhead and the Kachina ski lift.
**4x4 or tire chains highly recommended in the winter. The road is well plowed and sanded, however, the snowfall at 10,000ft can be significant, so better to play it safe**
-------
DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
-------
Be advised: GPS navigators will often not take you directly to the condo in the winter due to seasonally closed roads. Please follow these directions:
For a visual depiction use Google Maps to help you match this description or the Village of Taos Ski Valley Chamber of Commerce Map. Google gives directions via the summer roads and not the way it is in the winter. Input these coordinates to see exactly where the condo is located: 36.58054,-105.439181. It is the second building of the four with green roofs that are clear in the satellite mode.
From Albuquerque google directions are good except you can save some time taking the Sante Fe relief route (Hwy 599) instead of going straight through Sante Fe.
Once in the Ski Valley parking area, go to the upper parking lot (Coyote Parking) and then turn on to Twining Road, which is just gravel in the summer. Once you're established on Twining Road you pretty much follow it to the condos. It will feel like a long way especially if its dark, but you'll know you've gone to far if you reach the Bavarian Restaurant which is at the end of the road and only a 1/4 mile past our place. If you reference the chamber of commerce map, our condos are labeled as building 53 and are just past the hiker parking area.
During the winter, don't take the "Phoenix Switchback" road like your GPS might tell you to do, it is only open during the summer.

House was well equipped, nice sized rooms, spaced out well for multiple people. Great location to mountain bike trails, frisbee golf, and hiking. Phenomenal views. Love the wildlife behind the house. Quiet neighborhood. Great location to walk two minutes to the Bavarian Restaurant for an evening dinner.

Boise, IDEasy ski-in-ski-out access.
Left on 09/29/2010 for a stay in February 2010
My wife & I are planning our 2010-2011 ski vacation & would like to return to Taos Ski Valley, Alpenglow Chalet. We had so much fun last year skiing with family & friends, we want to make the alpenglow Chalet part of our annual winter tradition. The condo is well put together and seems to be brand new. The views from the balcony are incredible and you can't beat the easy ski-in-ski-out access (backcountry or resort). If you are flying into NM in the winter renting a 4 wheel drive car is a must.
Response from Heather U - 10/04/2010
Owner
Mr. Schaffeld, thanks for your review. We certainly hope to have you back at the Alpenglow for another season of skiing. Anytime we get backcountry skiers, we're pretty excited to hear of their adventures. As for the 4WD, we've also found chains will do the trick for the last mile of hilly driving. It sure is nice to leave the crowds behind and drive high up to the condo! Enjoy your upcoming winter- Rob

Bozeman, MTPerfect Ski Holiday for the Whole Family
Left on 09/22/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We traveled from Bozeman, MT to Taos for a winter ski vacation with our family and can't wait to go back. We have family in Denver and in arizona, so it was a great central location for us all. The condo had enough room for our entirefamily--kids, spouses, grandparents and friends-- which is hard to find! We wanted to spend our vacation somewhere with something for everyone, and Taos was the perfect place. We could ski, shop and dine all just a few minutes from the condo. It was easy to spend the morning skiing and meet up with the non-skiiers for lunch or snacks. We skiied in and out the front door all week and enjoyed fresh powder on some of the best terrain in the country. We even got dad to hike the ridge! I can't wait to go back and watch my little nephews master the magic carpet. In 10 years they'll be showing us the way on the ridge!

We recently spent a long weekend at the condo and it was amazing. We had a large group of friends and we all fit comfortably. A good time was had by all. I would absolutely recommend it to friends. The condo is close to hiking and ski trails. We spent the day hiking in the 70 degree temperatures followed by a liter refreshment at the Bavarian restaurant.
Thanks for the hospitality!Response from Heather U - 09/22/2010

We're glad to hear you enjoyed your visit as well as a liter of the Bavarian's tasty German beer (I assume). Come back again, we're always happy to have you in Taos! --Rob

Denver, COHuge! Family friendly w/ the most amazing views
Left on 09/09/2010 for a stay in September 2010
Just got back from an amazing weekend in Taos for the Music Festival. The lofted ceiling, large family room, spacious kitchen and numerous beds and bunks made for a wonderful, family filled weekend. We had three babies, family and friends--- with room to spare!
My highlight was waking up to the views of Kachina Peak and the Taos Ski Valley. Within walking distance to the ski lift and the Bavarian Restaurant--- you can bet on us coming back for a Winter Wonderland vacation.
Thanks again, we cant wait to come back!Response from Heather U - 09/13/2010
Owner
Gavin- We are happy you were able to enjoy the end of summer up at our condo. The addition of the Taos' annual music festival is an exciting change on the mountain that I'm looking forward to experiencing as soon as I'm free to attend. Thanks for the feedback- I'm glad to have one of our repeat guests leave feedback on both winter and summer experiences at Alpenglow. We look forward to having you and your family return once the snow falls again! Although Thanksgiving is still open... ;) Cheers- Rob

Left on 09/09/2010 for a stay in September 2010
Taos Ski Valley is an amazing place to go to beat the summer heat and this condo struck all the right cords with my family and friends. The location is great because its right across the street from the Williams Lake Trailhead. The condo has tons of space which was great for the kids and adults and made for a super relaxing weekend. We went to the Taos Mountain Music Festival too, which was awesome!
Response from Heather U - 09/13/2010
Owner
Mark- We're sure envious of your wonderful Labor Day / Taos Music Festival experience. Word on the street is that the weather was perfect. We were very happy to know that some of our repeat guests were going to enjoy such a perfect weekend up there. You can bet I wish the condo wasn't available b/c I was in it. Thank you for responding to our feedback request. We hope to see you and your family friends signing the guest book once the lifts are running! Cheers- Rob M

AlbuquerqueThe Top Ticket in Taos!
Left on 09/08/2010 for a stay in February 2010
This place is great! Highlights definitely include comfort and lift access!!! A group of 8 of us went up, and no one had a single complaint about their sleeping quarters (rare in a group of 8). It was super clean, large living room with a fireplace right in front of large windows to enjoy the Taos scenery. Hands down the best place we have stayed in Taos. Five stars!
Response from Heather U - 09/20/2010
Owner
Thanks for the positive and honest feedback. We're glad the condo accommodated your group and you enjoyed the scenery/lift access. Since your visit several winters ago, we've changed condo managers and snow/ice removal has improved significantly! While we're thankful for the extra snow that falls up at our high-altitude, it does mean a little extra work clearing snow and ice. But that also means extra snow for sledding in front of the condo or snowshoeing the adjacent trails. We sincerely look forward to your return.

Albuquerque, NMBeautiful home, fantastic location
Left on 09/08/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We stayed in the alpenglow Chalet in February 2010 and - lucky us - the same weekend that Taos got 20+ inches of fresh snow. We loved being able to walk to the lifts (or the Bavarian Restaurant) from the condo. The home is beautiful and very comfortable. There were four adults and four kids in our group, and we had more than enough space. The kids (and their parents) all enjoyed skiing, playing in the snow right outside the condo, watching movies and sitting in front of the fireplace. There was something for everyone! The accommodations are perfect for those who want to hunker down and get away from it all... while being within walking distance of some of the best skiing and snowboarding in North america. We can't wait to stay there again!

We're happy (and envious) you had a great stay during the big snow fall last winter. The skiing/boarding must have been out of this world. What an amazing time to spend up there!! Thanks for the review- you and your family are always welcome at our condo. --Rob
