      thyme out

Left on 08/06/2012 for a stay in June 2012

My wife and I recently spent a week in Thyme cottage in the Tarn region. From the moment we arrived we knew we would be happy here. Una welcomed us warmly with, to our delight, real coffee and a bottle of the local wine. She gave us lots of information about the area and then tactfully left us to our own devices. The cottage was an old converted stone building with all the necessary bits and pieces including outdoor tables and loungers. It was surrounded by pretty flowers and a grassy path led to the tiny village of Coumbieres. If you like majestic forests, pretty quiet little villages and shady walks then this is for you. But, if you like mountain biking and other exhilerating mountain activities then this is also the place for you and Una can help in arranging things for you.You do need a car as you are luckily a bit off the beaten path. There are many sights to explore nearby eg. the beautiful Black Mountains, the breathtaking Viaduc de Millau, highest in the world, the amazing Toulouse Lautrec museum, the many sleepy villages and much much more.We would love to return to Thyme cottage.

      A most relaxing motorcycle adventure!

Left on 07/20/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Having taken the plunge after a number of guided tours to plan and carry out our own motorcycle tour, we decided on somewhere that would be within easy reach of the famous Millau bridge. Luck was definitely with us when we came upon the Thyme holiday home in the Tarn region. Set in the beautiful Black Mountain region of France, the property is both quaint and romantic - a perfect retreat for a couple! The accomodation is extremely comfortable and restful with only the birds to wake you in the mornings.
Facilities available are very good with just about everything you could want. As a couple touring by nmotorcycle, we wanted for nothing! The property is surrounded by riolling hills, trees and beautiful countryside and provides easy access to a wide area of this fantastic regaion in France.
Una could not be a more hospitalble and helpful host if she tried! None of our requests were too much effort - plans for walks, places to eat - all were met with a cheery smile and Una provided all the help we needed.
The holiday home is easy to find and within easy reach of Castres and many other lovely french towns and villages. For the car driver or motorcyclist an almost perfect base from which to travel and discover. Highly Recommended!

Although small, the gite we stayed in had everything we needed, including a hot bath! The heating was adequate for a winter break but there was a lovely log burner in the sitting room which was not made available to us. Our stay would have been perfect with a roaring fire.

Left on 04/18/2011 for a stay in December 2010

Arrived at a cold december day and was warmly welcomed by Una and her family. The little house/tower is a small, but friendly home with a nice fireplace and a lovely countryside around. Unfortunately I had to move on after 3 weeks :-(
Whenever I´m going back I will stop and visit Una or spend a few days at the tower :-)
All the best to you, Harald

Beautiful rural setting, complemented by wonderful hosts.

Left on 03/31/2011 for a stay in July 2009

Thyme cottage is ideally suited for a couple who would enjoy the rural and mountainous setting and the local outdoor attractions. We spent a memorable week there and thoroughly enjoyed the local countryside, the many charted walks, the more energetic pursuits like kayaking and mountain biking and the local restaurants in the neighbouring villages that offered great value and delicious food. We also used it as a base from which we travelled to the regional towns and the many tourist attractions. We found the hospitality of our hosts, Una and Errol, excellent and we were treated like family. The accommodation is clean, functional and quaint, but not suitable for those with mobility problems due to the stairs and the 3-level structure. Overall, highly recommended!

We came to this area on a special purpose and we were out most of the time. Regardless of this, we really enjoyed our stay and we would renew our experience, this time to get more out of the facilities and activities.

It would have been nice to have the television and access to internet even though we arenot network addicts.

Thank you Funn for taking the time to leave a guest review. We appreciate it. We acknowledge your comment on the TV channels, the area is in the process of changing to digital, so we'll be looking at inputting a suitable Ariel or satellite dish as soon as we can. There is a TV & DVD player there for the purpose of watching movies. Also we now have wifi, but the very nature of the buildings being so old (over 200 years) with thick stone walls renders access difficult in certain places.

      Kind regards

The "Thyme converted pigeon loft" is a delightful place to stay. All that we needed was contained in the building and its layout and construction added to the romantic nature of its setting. Both Una and her husband were extremely welcoming and helpful. Altogether a wonderful and relaxing place to stay for a holiday. We have been holidaying (self-catering) in France almost every year since 1987 and this place ranks up at the top of the places where we have been.
