The best times I've spent in France were at La Baionnette

Left on 05/01/2012 for a stay in June 2011

I don't order lightly when I order off the vast menu of accommodation available in rural France, but I can without hesitation say that the three times I've stayed at La Baionnette were among the best holidays I've ever had. It is located in a part of the country which I didn't know at all, but which I have come to love. Charlotte Bauer and Clive Cope, the owners, are discreet and prize their guests' privacy above all (can I count the times I spent with no thought of clothes in that spectacular pool?); they furnished the house beautifully and comfortably (the beds and bedding are superb and enviable, the WiFi fast and reliable); and they showed a lot of foresight when they established themselves in a part of France where the cycling and walking are unbeatable (they've got bicycles for their guests), where there's a fantastic deli in a nearby village, where the wine is superb, and where the locals don't mind at all when one speaks abominable French to them. I can't recommend this property too enthusiastically. Try it, you won't be sorry. And say hello to Jean-Sebastien at his bar in Cahuzac-sur-Vere for me.

      Far from the madding tourists

Left on 05/01/2012 for a stay in April 2012

Esteemed South african journalist and expat Charlotte Bauer welcomes you to a relaxed home teased out of an old farm building. It's spacious, comfortable and private. We loved the big, rainbowed skies and vast, lush fields, the ancient hilltop bastides, and the intimate village markets where the choice of a cheese or saucisse will take you half the morning. This is wine and duck country, and there are no queues to visit the most exquisite ancient buildings and monuments. Dozens of vineyards welcome you with "Ouvert" signs. It's blissfully quiet, but it's not far to fine shopping and dining.

Relaxed, comfortable holiday in heritage farmhouse

Left on 04/15/2012 for a stay in June 2010

We were among the first to rent this charmingly renovated and comfortably equipped house. It served perfectly as a base to explore the Bastide villages and rivers of the region, as well as the local markets, and was a great sanctuary for resting up during the heat of the day and to enjoy the views over surrounding countryside. We loved eating outside by the pool during the warm summer evenings.
