Full House
Barrington, NHPlenty for everyone
Left on 05/03/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We had a full house of 10 people staying at Parlay in april. There was plenty of room for each person to find their own space and we didn't feel crowded at all. The beach is beautiful and you can enjoy sun or full shade. The yard has a nice array of hammocks, swings, and chairs. There is a badminton net and a great patio just off the back of the house. Inside is just as good. Bedrooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The common area is open and comfortable. Plus there is a playroom for any children. This beach house has it all!! Be sure to utilize the vehicle to make trips to see the sights. We loved the Glass Window and Ocean Hole. We definitely recommend swimming at Ocean Hole. We all agreed that our vacation at Parlay was the best one we've ever had. We highly recommend it!! The owners are kind and easy to work with. They provide great information to make your stay the most enjoyable. I especially appreciated not having to bring linens and the available washer/dryer. We hope to go back some day.

Our vacation at Parlay was even better than we imagined it would be. Eleuthera is a complete change of pace from our busy lives yet we felt completely at home there. The house is lovely and the owners have thought of everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The beach is amazing! Crystal clear water, incredibly private, and so much to explore. I could not say enough about how wonderful our week was, I felt like it was such a departure from the typical vacation where you end up running from activity to activity...while there is plenty to see and do, you'll probably enjoy just staying put at the house and relaxing. When you do go exploring, you'll find the locals friendly and helpful. Our family is looking forward to another trip to this beautiful place!

If you are not into "touristy spots" that are crowded, like me, this is the place for you!!
My husband, some friends, my sister, her beau and I stayed at Parlay the first week of November 2012, only a few days after Hurricane Sandy went through. Aside from the beach errosion at the house, everything was perfect! I am dying to go back to see the beach all cleaned up and accessible!! We did use the beach there to watch sunsets, spectacular view right outside the backdoor. We went on excursions daily to other nearby beaches only to find that we would sometimes be the only ones there. You would never think being on an 110-mile island, you would find such privacy. The locals are so very friendly and helpful too. The house is very large with plenty of space for everyone and all the amentities of home. It's a fantastic get-away, for a couple looking for some quiet alone time, or for a family with kids. We can't wait to plan our next trip with our kids! It's truly an oasis and you will not be disappointed. Only downside are the mosquitos...my goodness, those things feasted on us! So go prepared!!

Our family stayed here in august 2012. We had such a great time. There was something for everyone. The children had so much fun, playing indoors and out. They even made a pirate video. On the beach was like a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean! The adults relaxed. We already have plans to go back next summer. Everyone agreed it was the greatest vacation ever!

We stayed for two weeks. The house is wonderful with all anemities provided. Home away from home. We never saw anybody on the beach. The beach in front of the house was great for shells and was full of wildlife. My kids enjoyed the kayaks. The location was excellent and everyday we were off to spectacular atlantic side beaches. The house was great to come home to at the end of the day and a campfire on the beach watching the sun go down was a fitting end to the day.

Our 3 week stay at Parlay was awesome. It was starting to feel like a second home. The house is warm and comfortable. We loved the location being almost exactly between Rock Sound and Governor's Harbor. The caretakers were incredibly warm and friendly and took very good care of us if we needed anything. The only drawback if there was one, was the water pressure. It made showering a little challenging after the beach, but we made do just fine. It is probably just another "quirk" of being on an island. I would definitely recommend Parlay to someone else!!

Owner
Hello Renee,
Glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with Parlay At Sunset. Mr and Mrs Culmer are wonderful people and do a fabulous job of maintaining the property as well as taking care of the guests.
We are sorry that you were having problems with water pressure during your stay. We do have a pressure pump at the house to boost the pressure of the water at Paraly and it has always been functioning correctly. Mr Culmer is going to check on the system for any malfunctions. Thank you for letting us know about the situation so we could remedy it for future guests.
Once again, thank you for staying at Parlay At Sunset and we hope you come visit again! -

Accommodation is spacious yet welcoming. Obviously a much loved and looked after family home. Fully equipped for all our needs during our stay. Idyllic, isolated beach location with miles of white sand. Wonderful snorkeling and canoeing opportunities. Rented a car for a few days to explore the rest of the island but for me a day away from Parlay was a day wasted!
Only real downside are the biting insects so go prepared! -

Our family of 6 (4 girls age 6-13) and 2 friends came to Parley to celebrate my 40th birthday. While we were extremely well-prepared for the trip (thanks to the comprehensive information packet), we were completely unprepared for the exquisite beauty of the place. This cannot be described. It has to be experienced! Parley at Sunset is an incredibly unique place. We were met at the airport with a taxi and the complimentary jeep with no glitches. As this is not a touristy area (bonus!), we had the very friendly and helpful property manager's phone number should we have questions. Upon arriving at Parley, it is evident that every detail has been meticulously thought out. The inside spaces are clean and cozy with all the comforts of home. The 'back yard' is an series of 'outdoor rooms', spaces for relaxation, volleyball, eating, napping, sunning or shading yourself. Then there is the beach...for 10 days we had the entire stretch of beach completely to ourselves to snorkel, swim, kayak, build sand castles and explore. Since there were 8 of us, we rented a second vehicle for 3 days ($60/day) and explored the island top to bottom. Highlights for us were the Glass Window, Ocean Hole, Sky Beach Resort, and the Front Porch restaurant (best shrimp ever). The Friday Night Fish Fry is a must. Locally, we really loved Barbie's for grouper sandwiches and oh, what was the name..Shantzee's? for cracked conch! Fresh Conch salad is also yummy local fare. Food is expensive-we were well-warned! We did bring a bunch of frozen meat and other food, which we definitely recommend. We didn't bring enough snacks (a bag of chips or a small bag of candy are like $6) so stock up a suitcase if you like to munch!! Since we returned from our trip, our girls haven't stopped talking about the friends they made (snails, crabs, starfish, the resident stingray and shark, etc.) and sharing shells and stories with their friends. Definitely an unforgettable holiday!

My daughter and I had the privilege of staying at Parlay at Sunset from February 25 until March 5,2012. The home itself is very inviting. The front landscaping includes many plants and flowers surrounded by conch shells. Once inside, guests can enjoy a modern kitchen open to the dining and living areas. The furniture is up to date and comfortable. One welcome feature was the recently updated screens, meant to keep out the nightime no see-um bugs. Ample ceiling fans kept the house cool enough during the day to not use air conditioning. The best part of the house is the backyard! The beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean are steps away and provided hours of relaxation and enjoyment. My teenage daughter and I spent hours sitting in beach chairs placed in the water looking at the fish, sea urchins, starfish, sand dollars and rays passing by. There are plenty of beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, floats, sand toys and two kayaks to allow guests full enjoyment of the beach area. We did have the opportunity to visit several different areas of the island and everyone we met was extremely friendly and helpful.I would absolutely recommend Parlay at Sunset. The property has all the amenities one could ever need and the island is truly beautiful!

The best vacation we ever had.
Parley at Sunset. What a wonderful & tranquil home. Enter through the front door you see the ocean right through the sliding doors in the living room.
The house: Awesome 5 bedrooms & 2 full bathrooms, large open concept living room, dining room & kitchen. The floors are tile for easy sweep-it clean. Sleep peacefully at night with windows open was wonderful.
Back yard: Step right out to the breathtaking view of the atlantic Ocean. Walk down to the beach & step in the powder soft sand. Talk about relaxing & fun. You can snorkel or kayak for hours. The crystal clear ocean has many blended colors of turquoise. This view will be etched in my mind forever. If you just want to relax you can sit in the hammock or a beach chair. There is fishing too right here no need to go anywhere. I do recommend venturing out & about.
Out & about: Drive to any one of the "hundreds of beaches” and swim, snorkel, sleep, soak up the sun (bring sun screen unless you want to look like a lobster), do not forget to take pictures. You can ask anyone for directions to these breathtaking beaches, including where Princess Cruises "Princess Cays” docks their boats. You can shop at these huts for gifts to take home or buy yourself a gift.
We went to Governor's Harbour for the "Fish Fry” which is every Friday night. Enjoy the night life with the Bahamians & indulge in the Fish Fry or the Conch salad along with the local beers. For a romantic and relaxing dinner I recommend that you go to the Beach House Restaurant. It is all about the location & the food. Sit outside on the terrace & you can view the ocean. After dinner walk down to the beach to look at the breathtaking stretch of French Leave Beach. Take a dip if you desire to.
To end with sunsets: Sit in the back yard at Parley at Sunset & watch the Bahamas sunsets. Is this an optical illusion or is this Heaven on Earth. Every night is an experience that you must see.

This house has everything you need for an amazing stress free vacation. There are kayaks, snorkel gear, sand toys for the kids(or adults), beach chairs, hammocks, and chair swings. They have also built a beach cabana this spring for even more enjoyment outside. There is an outside shower by the deck, a bbq grill on the deck plus seats and a patio table for outside fun. The inside is just beautiful. 5 spacious bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms with tile flooring throughout the house. The kitchen/living space is one very large area so you can enjoy everyone's company while cooking or sitting at the kitchen island. This is very much a dream home that the owners have taken great time and care in building. As far as the house and property itself, you will not be disappointed at all. Oh yeah, then there's the fact that the beach is your backyard. Walk about 30 yards out the back sliding glass door and you're in the ocean on the Caribbean side which means calm waters most of the time. This makes it great swimming and snorkeling for the kids or anyone for that matter. No getting beaten up by waves here. I could go on and on but this is the perfect house for a "get away from it all" vacation.

Where to begin, I arrive at the airport to my our car waiting for us. Everyone is friendly and the ride was incredible. The house was everything and more, we had a beautiful welcome basket to help us till the next day when we went to the store.
The beach was clean and beautiful, we threw the kayaks in the water and went exploring. The sunset was incredible! We picked our bedrooms and slept in our wonderful airconditioned rooms.
There is a book to help you find all the beaches located all over the island and if you get lost just ask someone! The locals are so friendly and happy to show off their island.
Everything you need to enjoy your vacation is there, the Smith family has provided a home away from home for you! Enjoy -

It is often that the pictures of a vacation spot don't actually depict the true value of the place. That is not the case here. The pictures are very true to Parlay's nature. Personally, we like to stay right on the beach. Many homes are a bit of a trudge to the sand or even uphill or stairs. That is not the case here. Being right on the beach, it is nothing to run to the water to jump in, play in the wildlife, and run back to the house. The outdoor shower makes it very convenient to do so, as well. The area in the back is designed for peaceful interludes between the relaxing beach and the very comfortable, modern, plentiful house. The shells are abundant and the water is calm. Each day we were there, we saw something new and of significance in the water. Stingray, baby sharks, nurse shark, barracuda, gorgeous starfish, many sand dollars, many fishes and plantlife. (As I write this, I am so eager to return to the peace!)
The house is very new and very modern. We've stayed a few places in Eleuthera and the amenities are abundant here. Although we have gone without on the island, Dish TV rocks, as does the very impressive speedy internet here. The kitchen is furnished with appliances I don't even have in my own home. The blender is more than capable. Lol. The kitchen was actually quite a pleasure to work in and by work, I mean make meals for the family. So pack a cooler or two, hit the grocery store, and enjoy family time. Bring stuff to pack a day trip cooler because the island is full of amazing beaches~ the best we have ever seen. You could adventure to a new spot of beauty every day, twice a day and each one is so incredibly unique and breathtakingly beautiful. The location of Parlay at Sunset makes it a perfect home base to go to every spot on the island. (Use the Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera book and website!!!)

Best girls trip ever!
I had the luxury of traveling to Parlay at Sunset with the owner and a couple of friends. The trip was amazing. Starting at the airport in Rock Sound, the jeep was waiting for us. We got to the house, quickly dropped our bags and ran to the beach! It is gorgeous! We spent the week on the beach-theirs and the many others up and down the island! We kayaked, snorkeled, searched for shells, walked the beach and sunbathed!
We took two day trips. One day we drove down to Lighthouse Beach. Be ready for a bumpy jeep ride! Views at the end of the ride are breathtaking! The other day trip was up to Harbour Island. This is a 2 hour ride up the island, but, well worth the drive! You take a 5 minute boat ride to the island. When we went not much was open and that made it perfect! We rented a golf cart to explore the island, walked a pink sand beach, had lunch at acqua Pazza (a restaurant overlooking the water-with a pool!) and even walked through a "haunted house!"
Take time to read the binder the owners have put together for you. The information in it will make your trip go smoothly. They have worked hard to make their house a fun, comfortable place to vacation. Respect the house and the amenities they have provided for you and you will have the best trip ever too!!

Don't let the 4 star rating fool you- I'd give it 4.75 if I could.
The house was great- spacious kitchen, adequately stocked with equipment, 5 bedrooms- two on one side of the living space, three (including master) on the other side. It's set up with all the modern conveniences, but since this is a tropical island, not all the modern utilities worked continuously. We never had a water supply or satellite TV problem, but internet, and power were subject to interruption. (The house has a generator, but it wasn't power supply that got us, it was tripped circuit breakers from us overusing appliances once we got home from a day at the beach. Once we quit showering, running the dryer and cooking all at once, we didn't have further problems. Know this going in and treat it as the adventure it is.
We were in the water everyday, though our family of 4 kids, ages 7 to 17, got bored with the water at the house and wanted to seek more variety. Variety exists at every turn down a dirt road. If you look for it, you'll find it.
Locals are very kind and friendly. We felt safe everywhere, even driving three miles down a single lane road through the "jungle" to find Lighthouse Beach. It was worth the drive!
We did have to adjust to Bahamian time and scheduling. Everything is approximate, so relax and roll with it.
The house caretaker, who lives practically next door, was very helpful with fixing problems, meeting our desires/needs with info and amenities, and offering advice.
The home owners were very good to work with, with excellent communication and fair dealing. The place was exactly as it was represented on the website. They also gave us some great advice about preparing for our trip once we booked through an info packet. Read and Heed!
So long as you realize what type of trip a house rental on Eleuthera is, you can't go wrong with this one.

If you are looking for an authentic Bahamian vacation, this is the place for you. This is where to go if you want to get away from the busy resorts, tourist centers, and off-the-beaten-path. The owners were very helpful and responsive in getting everything set up, and informing us about everything we needed to know about Eleuthera. The property manager, Mr. Culmer, truly went above and beyond the call of duty, when he was able to help book a (quite literally) last minute flight to Fort Lauderdale. Splendid! The property itself is great! It was very comfortable, modern, and surpassed our every need. The location's beauty cannot be overstated. After saving for years, all expectations for our vacation-of-a-lifetime were met within 30 minutes after arrival. Absolutely awesome!!

My husband and I had the best time at Parlay. The kayaks were great to take out down the beach for snorkeling. The Jeep made it fantastic to explore the island, Lighthouse beach and Jack's cay being our favorite spots. Everyone on the island was so kind, esp. Miss audrey. And Kelly and Denise could have not been more helpful. Our last night we saw 4-5 (4-6ft) nurse sharks right off shore. Couldn't have been a better trip and maybe next time we will bring the kids.

The owners are very very friendly, caring and professional people focused on giving a good service, they really want you to have a good time and enjoy their place to the maximum! House is clean, fully equipped for the whole family to be happy (satellite TV, books, lots of toys for children, kayaks, hammocks,...), lots of space. You have everything you need to feel right at home. We (my husband, myself and my 7 month-old baby) stayed for a week and saw only one person pass by on the beach, which is just a few steps away in your backyard! The beach is nice, we found it beautiful and we enjoyed it very much with trees and hammocks, but the shore is full of small shells, and thorns from trees, not a 'pure white postal card sand' but then again, that didn't bother us at all. If you really want a 'wow' beach, take the Jeep and drive 15 min to Ten Bay beach or 30-40 min to Club Med Beach. Amaaazing! but you will always be happy to return to your 'home sweet home ' at P@S at the end of the day.
Also, when entering the water, you will have a dead coral barrier for a few steps but passed that, its just nice white sand. During a week, we saw 3 small sharks (not dangerous!), lots of rays, some fish but not a lot, a crab or two, a sea star, urchin, not interesting enough coral to snorkle around though.
The house is located on a 'highway' but really is more like a main road. Cars do pass by but with the front door closed, you don't hear anything, it's quiet. Also, when we were there, on each side of the house, there were two houses started being build but they seemed abandonned so basically the closest neighbour is ... well, far away!
If you want to stay at aquiet place, being comfortable and in a relaxing surrounding, exploring Bahamian nature, forget the crouded, overrated and expansive resorts! go to Parlay at Sunset... -

We had an awesome time at Parlay at Sunset. It is so calm and peaceful away from the tourist area's. In a way it is hard to describe our week. The most fantastic vacation we have taken. We usually go on all inclusive vacations. These have been great but Parlay at Sunset was the ultimate vacation. Living in a beautiful home with every convenience one needs at your fingertips. The beauty of hearing the ocean when waking up in the morning was great.
Meals were easier than we anticipated. We definitely over packed food, but all the frozen things made it without a problem. The next time we go we will know exactly what to take. Simple meals, Healthy snacks. I actually prefer having just the food you need and not having so many choices.
The house is beautiful, makes one feel at home when you walk in. Every convenience one needs is at your fingertips. There is so much room. We were with another couple and there was plenty of space.
We brought home many shells. The sea left gifts every morning. Bring your water shoes and you will not have a problem. We took long walks on the beach a couple of times a day. One morning as we were walking there were ripples on the water. At first glance it would have looked like little waves on the ocean but it was a university of fish. It seemed like hundreds of fish swimming together, separating and coming back together all around us. I saw a large Sting ray while snorkeling; my husband saw a sand shark about six feet long.
Having the jeep available was also fantastic. Driving on the left side of the road was a trip at first, but it did not take long to have it under control. We did not see near the entire island and cannot wait to go back! Oh yes, one should always wear one's seatbelt while driving on the island, we almost got a 500 dollar fine. But the police officer was very nice and let us off with a warning.
Thank you Kelly and Denise for allowing us to stay at your most beautiful home.

This place was a real pleasure. It was roomy and comfortable and very nice having a beach right out the back door. The owners have put a lot of attention into fixing it up, and the seawall and back yard with hammocks and chairs were nice to have. The large kitchen was convenient and well stocked and we cooked local fish and lobster from the docks in Tarpum Bay one night. Also very convenient being right on the main road. The use of the Jeep made a pleasant difference to us, as car rentals and taxis are very pricey on the island.
