Wharewaka Cottage is in the residential area of Four Mile Bay, 7 minutes drive from the centre of Taupo. Its a quiet suburb with very pretty views of the lake and idyllic bays. Great walking/biking opportunities on the Lions Walk which follows the shoreline all the way to Taupo township. 2 minutes from Taupo Airport and situated on the local bus route. Parking for two cars on site.

We were met by the very gracious owners who reside on the property, with the kitchen and frig stocked with welcome comestibles and wine and answers to our many questions. The home is cozy and comfortable with room to really enjoy, inside and out. You need only to bring your clothes and fishing poles! The cottage is located over- looking Lake Taupo which is very accessible,for beach and water sports. We loved the atmosphere in the residential area, and the hosts are the very best we have encountered at the many places we have rented over the years.

This newly renovated cottage is the last part of a once well known motel, and is reminiscent of a bygone era. Ideally situated with a view to 4 Mile Bay, it is the perfect blend of a peaceful getaway with easy access to all the excitement and amenities of the Taupo area and the volcanic central plateau.
It is a short walk (or scooter trip for our children!) away from the picturesque Wharewaka Reserve - which boasts stunning views of the volcanic peaks, a walking/biking path to town and a children's playground, not to mention pristine lake beaches and boat access.
The renovation has maintained the essential character of the motel unit, while providing excellent kitchen, bathroom and sleeping facilities. Both a heat pump and wood burning fire ensure that even in the depths of winter it was warm - and the northwest aspect ensures sheltered all day sun.
We have found it a perfect spot for our family (children aged 4 and 6) and have visited on 3 different occasions over the past 3 years. Within a few minutes drive you could be horse-riding at Huka Falls, viewing the thermal "Craters of the Moon", boating, trout fishing or golfing - and being on the south side of Taupo means that the hiking trails and skiing in the Tongariro National Park are less than an hour away.
The service is consistently outstanding. Gill and alistair are wonderful hosts and ensure everything is ready for our arrival - even providing childrens' toys and books.
