Additional Location Information
Kinloch is a fast growing destination offering an abundance of activities. The marina in the village of Kinloch gives access to the finest fishing waters of the Western Bays of Lake Taupo. Also, with the recently completed W2K Track and Kawakawa Bay Track, we have 2 world class walking and mountain biking tracks. The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course is also ranked a Top 100 in the world outside the US by Golf Digest Magazine.
Taupo Town is only a 15 minute drive away, offering fine dining, cafes and restaurants, as well as a number of boutique retail outlets. The lake itself is very swimmable in the summer and is popular as a stop-off for a few days being right in the central North Island on the main highway between Auckland and Wellington and Napier.
The air is fresh and clean, being at an altitude of 1400 feet, and the emphasis is on outdoor activities - the walking, kayaking, biking, fishing, golfing and white water rafting are most popular.
It is easy to stay a week in the region and leave plenty to do for a return trip !

The house is amazing - so comfortable and easy to relax. I'm not a golfer so I planned to go exploring the area. Trouble was, I was too happy just beingin this beautiful house, great wifi, fabulous views, a kitchen with all mod cons...I didn't even use the bikes that are provided.
The golfers adored this very special course and we can't wait to go back. -

This modern, 4 bedroom home is everything you could possibly want. Lovely decor and oh those views of the mountains with the 3rd and 4th hole at Kinloch at your back door. The expanse of glass is everywhere to enjoy the views and capture the cross breezes.
Alistair, your host couldn't have been more helpful with tee times and activity suggestions. He even caught a trout and brought it to us for our BBQ.

My wife and I stayed at Dunalistair on our 3 week trip around New Zealand. The place was fantastic!! A beautiful Luxury home, with all the modern comforts. Kirsty and alistair were fabulous hosts, who knew exactly when to give us our space, but who were also always at arms length. The rooms were fantastic and the house is so spacious. (especially for two people). Having your own laundry gave us a great chance to get all our washing done, which can be such a hassle at most hotels and luxury lodges.
The location to Taupo is fantastic, and being right on a (literally next to the hole) championship golf course was a real treat. Our hosts also provided us with great dining options in the area.
This is a must stay for any traveller, especially because it is very affordable and it has such a class about it. We highly recommend Dunalistair!Response from Alistair Tod - 02/07/2013

Hi Peter -
Thank you so much for your kind review. Dunalistair House has become a fantastic option for couples the past two years with our new pricing structure that does not penalise smaller numbers staying with a "full house" rate. So we are enjoying having more couples such as yourselves experiencing Dunalistair, and you get the added bonus of having the whole place exclusively !
It was a pleasure for Kirsty and I to meet with you and we hope the rest of your trip around New Zealand went well. The weather has certainly been absolutely stunning !
All the best,
Kind regards
Alistair & Kirsty

The location of this house on Kinloch Golf Course is beyond perfect. The 4th hole is outside the living room wall of sliding glass doors, the mountains, the view of Lake Taupo. It is breathtaking including the sunsets. For the golfer it is paradise , heaven on earth , 3 days there is not enough time for the non golfer as well. Within a short driving distance of 3- 4 other courses, all the activites at Lake Taupo and Huka Falls. The home is state of the art with 4 master suites , a fully stocked kitchen and wine in butlers pantry. You will never want to leave, It is elegant , intimate ,and Kinloch is yours! Treat yourself and bring the non golfer , it will be the highlight of your trip.

Thank you so much for your fantastic review Cindy.
It really is extremely pleasing and we are truly humbled to such positive reviews about Dunalistair House, and the special region that Kinloch is becoming. Kinloch over the years has been little known as a destination to overseas guests (having historically been a popular destination for New Zealanders), so it is fantastic that more international visitors are coming to stay.
All the very best with your onward travels and we look forward to seeing you back here again in the future!

magnificently designed home on gorgeous golf course by Nicklaus...his best iteration by far. Wonderful amenities, fully stocked bar including wine and food. Glorious sunsets and sunrises from every room in the house. Close to local area for swimming, fishing, and eating but why leave the place when it is so beautiful. Walked out onto the golf course from the living room. there is much to do for the non golfer as well. Perfect for families or 4 to 8 buddies on a golf trip. More luxurious than Bandon Dunes or Whistling Staits and similar golf to Scotland/Ireland but with much better weather and warmer waters. This is a must for travelers to NZ.

It was a delight meeting again Jim, and I look forward to hopefully another visit again in the future. We are particularly proud of the positive response Dunalistair House is receiving from guests who come to stay at our special hideaway. No amount of marketing can emphasise the truly magical place that Dunalistair and Kinloch is.
I am also delighted that your view is that Kinloch is Jack Nicklaus at his best. We certainly agree!
You are welcome back anytime!

I can not fault the setting of Dunalister. To wake up in the morning with a view of the course and the lake was magic. We were greeted with the most insane homemade chocolate brownie as well!
The beds were really comfortable, bathrooms extremely clean and all facilities top knotch and well thought through. The fully automated key pad for the music, windows etc was hours of fun!
We had a package of golf and beauty treatments, so was perfect all round. The boys said the golf was some of the best they have ever had.
Fantastic wine and beer at a great price...couldn't have asked for a better time. -

We recently used Dunalister House as our wedding venue, it was such a stunning property that we only looked at this one spot and decided it was the perfect place for our special day.
We've lost count of the number of wedding guests that fell in love with Dunalister House - I was afraid we wouldn't get them all off site before we had to hand the keys back to alistair and Kirsty who by the way have been incredibly helpful and accomodating.
Dunalister House has beautiful views in a very peaceful 'Kinloch' village with all the outdoor activities any one could want, including; fishing, waterskiing, swimming, fantastic mountainbike trails, running and walking trails and 2 golf couses.
I really can't find any reason not to stay at Dunalister House - it's just stunning.

This place had it all! Luxury, serenity, beauty - a location second to none situated on the door of a world class golf course and a short walk to the edge of one of the most stunning lakes I've ever seen. Alistaire was a stand out host ensuring that me and the family were well looked after. Oh, and having a helicopter land on the front lawn ready to take us for our scenic flight was the icing on a world class cake!

Fully glazed living and dining area with a gas fireplace was the best confort for us after a round of golf. It has a state of the art computerised control system with excellent surrounding audio.
Only 20 min. drive from Taupo town centre gave us a complete silence.
Stay and play package is nice and reasonable.

I stayed here with 3 friends on a golfing holiday. The location is unbeatable. Right on the golf course - literally. Four fabulous bedrooms, each with well appointed en suite. The dining/living areas are excellent and well supported by a music system, gas-flame open fire, and great kitchen. The coffee machine - a bonus. Good selection of wines, fresh fruit on arrival, and plenty of breakfast options. Our host was most attentive, providing advice on local restaurants and activities. Shame he couldn't help my golf score!

Our group of eight stayed two nights. We had a great time, not just because we get on very well but also because the each of the rooms was well equipped with fitted ironing boards & an iron, the bathroom drawers had eye pads & cotton buds in case you forgot these wee things when packing.
The quality of the linen on the beds was top of the line - something I find very important - and all fabrics were cotton and breatheable! No polyester!
A great breakfast of cereals, juice, yoghurt, bread, bacon & eggs was left for us. And a coffee machine!! Fantastic. Alastair went out of his way by dropping us girls off a long distance from the house so we could complete an extensive walk through the bush. His wife made us a delicious brownie too. Nothing was too much trouble. If you want the bustle of town, Taupo is only 20 minutes away but to come back to the tranquility and beauty of Kinloch is wonderful. Thank you alistair! Dunalistair House is a perfect location for exploring Lake Taupo & providing a peaceful location with all the amenities for relaxing after a day on the links. This modern home with incredible facilities for our NZ visit features a glass living room overlooking one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country. My wife and I stayed in Kinloch for 4 days in January & even though the weather didn't cooperate, the rainy days were enjoyable in the glass environs' of this home. Given it's unique location on the Jack Nicklaus designed "Kinloch Golf Club”, it's a natural to choose as a base for a golfing vacation. Alistair Todd, the owner/operator of Dunalistair House, runs a travel company called Greenfernz with connections to so many of the finest courses in New Zealand & specializes in "Stay & Play” packages, including Kinloch. Don't miss out on playing this undiscovered gem in the center of the North Island. It is a demanding layout in a British Open style with highly rewarding views & challenging shot values. Short drives from Dunalistair House will get you into Tongariro National Park for some epic walks & the geo thermal activity is worth a visit as well. Lot's of great food options if you're looking for restaurants in the area & the kitchen in the home is well stocked with all the tools of the trade to assist your own prep. Best of all, if you have any questions or additional needs, Alistair is readily available at all times to assist in making certain guests have everything they require. Every time we asked about a new activity, he'd find a suggestion we hadn't thought of. When we wanted to explore the thermal features you can see driving into Kinloch, Alistair offered to have a helicopter stop by the house & pick us up for a bird's eye view of the Lake. All in all, one of our favorite locations in New Zealand, our only regret from this trip was we didn't have family along to fill the other 3 bedrooms so I suppose we'll have to come back again!

Rarely do my wife and I sit down and write reviews, however Dunalistair House is without doubt deserving.
The house is simply stunning and very elegantly decorated. We joined 3 other members of our family and we stayed there for over 3 weeks. Not once did we feel crowded as the house provides for plenty of privacy, mixed with a spacious and comfortable living room. Rarely do you find accommodation outside of hotels that offer full en-suite bathrooms for all bedrooms. This created a good equilibrium for all of the residents and gave one a sense of personal space.
Unfortunately my wife nor I are golf fans which I can readily admit was a shame as the course did look fantastic. However it served well as a beautiful backdrop and for walks. It also keeps the house well removed from the road etc and hence it was fantastically private. The sunsets over Lake Taupo are not to be missed!
The owner alistair Tod and his lovely family were unfalteringly, the perfect hosts. Alistair's simple approach is that 'nothing is a problem' and thus he made us all feel so very welcome and at home.
Considering the size of the house and the amenities on tap I would certainly describe the rental costs as value for money.
In short the photographs and description of the property are exactly what you get. There is nothing hidden...no nasty surprises, just a perfectly set, clean and relaxing home.
Thanks alistair.
