6 to 8 mins walk from the centre of the old town, Boa Vista is a detached 4-bed, 3-bath villa, part air-con, with panoramic views over the Roman bridge, the Moorish Castle and old Tavira, and out to sea; a car is not essential. With two furnished terraces (wrap-around marble-tiled at ground floor level and a roof terrace at first floor level), and extensive pool and patio areas (also furnished), up to eight guests can comfortably be accommodated; and bring baby, a cot and/or high-chair are available free of charge on request.

On arrival, you are met by an English couple who introduce you to the facilities. They live locally and are on... hand by phone 24/7 should any minor emergencies occur during your stay. They also provide a Welcome Basket including tea, coffee, milk, sugar, cheese, cold meats, bread, water, wine, beer, soft drinks, etc – maybe not enough for a four course meal but enough that you don’t have to rush to the supermarket.

The villa is equipped throughout to a very high standard. The lounge area is approx 40sqm/400sqft. Satellite TV (Sky Free-to-air) and Cable TV are provided in the lounge, the dining room and the master bedroom – each location has an independent satellite connection. There is a large open-plan kitchen/dining area comprehensively equipped to cater for eight people. Both lounge and dining room are air-conditioned.

There are four bedrooms, two with double beds and two with twin beds. There are also three bathrooms. The master bedroom is air-conditioned and has bathroom en suite, TV, etc. The other double bedroom also has air-con; both twin bedrooms have fans. The utility room includes a washing machine and a dryer. Soaps, detergents, toilet paper, etc are provided.

The pool is 11m x 5m (36ft x 16ft) and is enclosed by a child-protection fence. The pool area is well equipped – there is a pergola, several umbrellas, 8 loungers, shower, etc. An informal selection of pool toys and flotation aids is available -- but do not leave children there unattended.

Alfresco dining for eight is provided on the patio close to the pool and also on a shaded portion of the wrap-around terrace beside the kitchen. Tables, chairs and umbrellas are also provided on another section of the terrace off the utility room and on the roof terrace (which also has some loungers). A gas BBQ offers easy cooking.

Wi-Fi internet access is provided; a telephone can be connected on request. Air-con (included in the rates) is provided in lounge, dining room and master bedroom, fans elsewhere. The urbanisation has no through traffic and free on-street parking is readily available. Taxis transfer to/from Faro airport costs Euro 40,00 for four, Euro 55,00 for six (2 x Euro 40,00 for eight). Taxis within the urban area are readily available and relatively inexpensive (Euro 4,00).

Throughout the season, the local Camara (Town Council) organises a wide selection of street theatre, folk dancing and singing, concerts, fairs and exhibitions, a film festival, etc. There are also regular street markets in Tavira and many of the surrounding towns and villages. Restaurants abound in Tavira – the choice varies from basic local with paper tablecloths offering a meal for two including house wine for under Euro 30,00 to the formal elegance of the Pousada where you can dine in fine style at Euro 100,00 or more per head. Tavira is still an active fishing port and an extraordinary variety of fresh fish is widely available. Tavira is a family-friendly town, much of it is pedestrianised and kids are safe and welcome. Unlike the towns of the Central and Western Algarve, disco bars and lager louts are conspicuous by their absence in Tavira – but there are several excellent bars (kids welcome) where you can relax after dinner and a few “night clubs” where you can see the dawn come up.

Nearby Ilha da Tavira (Tavira Island, but actually a sandbar) offers some 12km of magnificent white strands (also even a secluded nudist beach!) and the waters here are the warmest in the Algarve. The island offers bars, restaurants, massage facilities, rental of deck-chairs, loungers, umbrellas, etc. With such a stretch of beach reached from several different locations, there is never any difficulty having a good area of beach to yourself. The island is reached by several ferries from Tavira or by a little old train straight out of a kids cartoon.

Villa Boa Vista is located in a quiet, mature residential development within Tavira town. The villa overlooks the Roman bridge which is generally regarded as the centre point of the old town and which is six to eight minutes walk from the villa. Tavira is 35 minutes from Faro airport or two hours from Seville airport. Taxi transfer to/from Faro airport from Euro 45 each way (2013).

  We had a brilliant two-week holiday in Portugal and the house was really the icing on the cake. Both families had great expectations in advance and they were completely met and even exceeded. We felt quickly homey in the house and that's something you really can't expect from an ordinary rental home. In addition, the equipment is complete and everything works. Also Tavira was a charming town and not too touristic which is exactly what we had hoped for.

  We had the most brilliant holiday at Boa Vista. The owners have taken every care to equip the villa with everything you could possibly need. The furnishings are exquisite,loads of space to be together or to find a solitary and peaceful shady niche. Terrific pool and just a short walk into Tavira town where you can find many lovely places to eat tucked away in the cobbled streets. We could not have wished for more.

  Myself and my family stayed at Villa Boa Vista for a week in September and it was excellent. We wanted for nothing and, considering a lot of places provide the bare minimum in terms of amenities, the house was very well equipped.
  The fact that we had a pool to ourselves in an amazing sun trap also helped!

  Nicely located villa overlooking Tavira which is just a 10 minute walk away with shops, bars and restaurants.
  Tavira itself is a beautiful low key holiday destination, largely unspoilt by mass tourism.

  Ours was a family holiday with ages ranging from 2 to 62, everyone had a lovely time and will return. The Villa is a fantastic property with lovely views over the town to the sea in the distance. We all enjoyed the swimming pool on the days that we did not go the beach (which is a really good one as you need to go on the local ferry to get to the island)and either had a BBQ or walked into town in the evening to eat.
  Tavira is a lovely town with plenty of resturants catering for all tastes and is only a 10 minute walk if you go over the railway line or 20 minutes if you use the steps.
  Once again I would highly recommend this Villa and Ted the owner is always very quick to answer any queries you may have by mail.

  Superb villa in a great location

  Very clean well serviced luxury villa with every facility needed for a family holiday. It is very spacious and equiped to a high standard throughout. The pool area has sun all day, but has plenty of shade if needed, it is also has a safety fence for those travelling with children. The villa is only a short (15mins) downhill walk into the very pretty town of Tavira, which is a more traditional town with lots of restaurants, shops, supermarkets. The beach is a boat ride away and was definately a highlight of our visit to Tavira.
  Car hire is not essential as there are lots of taxis available in the town.

  Unbelievable value for such peace and tranquility!!

  Normally on a two week holiday, by the second week, I'm looking forward to going home but I can honestly say that staying at the Villa Boa Vista in the peaceful Tavira surroundings made we wish we could have stayed a lot longer.
  
  The villa is extremely well equipped and I found sun bathing my own private pool somewhat satisfying!! We enjoyed the open air dining experience most evenings along the various charming cobbled streets of Tavira town.
  
  I've already booked for next year!!
