We are an extended family of 6 - grandparents, parents and children aged 7 and 20 months. This could be disasterous if the house doesn't work, but Smithy House was ideal.
There are 2 large public rooms, so plenty of room to be together or peacefully apart. The children's bedroom was large enough to corner off the travel cot that was provided so that our older grandchild could read in bed without disturbing the younger one.
The kitchen was so well equipped that you could have covered any type of meal from slinging something in the microwave to a full scale dinner party (which we did with sole, langoustine, scallops, razor clams and oysters from the fishmonger's behind the info bureau in Tarbert - and far cheaper and fresher than we could buy at home) .
The garden was safely enclosed for our very active toddler, therefore relaxing for us adults as didn't have to be constantly on alert.
A bonus was the very handy local shop. Our shy 7 year old became very adept and confident at shopping on her own, helped by the shop staff.
Came home with a mass of shells from the beach and some great memories. -

An extremely comfortable and well appointed small house/cottage with good parking for 2/3 cars.
Usefully situated near the shop and bus stop - to Tarbert north and Campbeltown south.
Very pleasant and secluded garden with picnic/barbecue facilities adjacent to the kitchen and some amusements for children.
The lovely sandy beach(es) are a short walk as is the ferry to Gigha where a car can be left or taken onto the ferry.
Also sea fishing and boating -

WalesFantastic, comfortable, well equipped cottage

Having visited Smithy Cottage three times we thought we must rate this on Trip advisor. We've visited the cottage with friends (8 of us) before and found that there was plenty of living space for all of us with two lounge areas/dining room, three good size bedrooms and two bathrooms. The cottage has everything you need and the kitchen is better equipped than any other self catering unit we've ever stayed in. The surrounding area is so scenic, the local beaches so beautiful and the local shop (a stone's throw away) so good that we didn't need to spend much time in the car to find something to do. We ate out in Tarbert (20 minutes away) which had some excellent restaurants, the children swam at Campbeltown pool in the morning and surfed at the local beach in the afternoon, we Bbq'd in the enclosed garden in the evening sun (child and dog proof!) and took a ferry from the small port near the cottage over to neighbouring island Gigha. I would highly recommend this for a family holiday or to lease with friends.

We had a wonderful weekend break here. Cottage has separate sitting room and large dining room so plenty of room for both children and adults to do their own thing. Fantastic location for just relaxing or as we did visiting the many beaches in this beautiful part of the world. Children went crabbing from the pier.

Our family stayed in this cottage last July and we have just turned down a free flight abroad in favour of going back this summer. The children loved the beautiful beaches, the fishing and riding. The cottage is a delight and is probably the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. There is enough room to accomodate good number of people without getting in each others' way, although we preferrerd to book it out for just the four of us. The ferry crossing to Gigha is minutes away and the watersports are great, not to mention the quaint pub by a beautiful bay with white sand and turquoise waters. I will never go abroad in the summer again, this is a proper holiday and we all felt the benefit of truely chilling out in quality accommodation in one of the most stunning areas of Scotland.
