Location, location, location. Location was amazing. For summer, near running stream, hiking, and center of downtown, not to mention the gondola. (Key for winter). However, the place was much smaller than it appeared in photos. Barely room for the sofa downstairs and the bed upstairs. No hangout space to speak of. Bathroom was very nice. Breakfast was a joke -- packaged oatmeal, granola bar, yogurt. We skipped it and opted for town breakfast instead but the kitchen was nice to have as a backup, and the patio of the lodge was a lovely spot for lunch. Read more
Thank you for your review of the Manitou Lodge. You can't beat the location! We appreciate your feedback on breakfast. We are trying a new Get Movin' Breakfast this summer and are experimenting with different options to make it convenient for our guests. We look forward to seeing you on your next Telluride adventure.

We really liked this cute little place. It is quite small (maybe too small for some, but perfect for us) and very clean and cozy. It was the perfect place for us to get married and spend our little honeymoon. We loved the little balcony and how it was right above the river. Would love to come back in the summer and lounge out there.
The only 'cons' I think other people might see are that the toilets are low flow, the sink is very little with a tiny little faucet. But that is nothing to us.
It is such a great location! It's only a couple blocks from the gondola! A couple blocks from Smuggler's brewpub too:) So easy to walk everywhere. The lady who greeted us in the kitchen was very kind! She surprised us with a bottle of wine when she found out we were getting married.:) The hot tub was nice as well and it was really cool when it was snowing and coming in through the opening in the ceiling:) Telluride is so much fun! Would love to come back and stay there again!:) Read more

Loved being able to walk to the lifts and the easy access to businesses in this neat little town. Not a big fan of the loft layout of the room but it worked out okay. The gatherings for breakfast in the morning always had some interesting conversations going on among the guests. For the money, it is hard to beat. Read more

Small, but comfy. Good enough for two skiers. Three, maybe...four a tight fit. Continental breakfast was very nice. Parking is a bit sketchy as it isn't on-site. You get a permit to park on the street which may be 3 blocks away (or right in front of lucky). 200 yard walk to the gondola. I would stay there again! Read more

We have stayed at the Manitou every time we have been in Telluride. Wouldn't think of going anywhere else! It is a wonderful, family friendly lodge, with everything we enjoy in a spectacular location right next to the river and gondola. Comfortable, well-appointed, great hot tub and common area, yummy breakfast, everything we need for a memorable stay, every time! We come in the summertime too for beautiful hiking. I have stayed at the Manitou Lodge in the past and enjoyed the stay, but this time was different. If you read the description from the manager, at the bottom it lists the room as "967 sq ft". That is very far from the truth. This room is closer to 300sq ft, and that is a major discrepancy. Had I known that this room is less than half the size (and the same price) as the room I stayed in previously, I would have stayed elsewhere. Besides the misrepresentation of the room size, we had no other issues. The Manitou Lodge is clean and the management team is friendly. Read more

A bit squeezed but hosts and Telluride great

My wife and I found this room a bit small for the two of us considering the costs. The photo was somewhat misleading to me when I booked. Since I've had such great times at the Manitou in the past, I have to say this room was a disappointment. That said, Heather was gracious as always and made us feel very welcomed. And, since we came to hike and not spend all that much time in the room we had a great Telluride experience.
One other thing. Some joker turned the deck light on at 1130p. One light was directly under the room and woke us both up since it was so bright. I had to get up and find the chain switch to turn the light off. Not a good night. But not management's fault. Just a rude person.

The Manitou is wonderful. It's convenient location next to a stream as well as close to main street is a plus. Heather was particularly helpful moving us into a spacious room. I would suggest not arriving in the evening when there is no attendant present.

The location was super, but the room was a good bit smaller than I expected. There were few places to sit or hang things. I was not satisfied with the parking arrangements. Because of problems with our flight, we got there very late and had difficulty finding Manitou. I did get a peek into some larger rooms that were much more spacious than mine. Read more

Thank you for your review and we are sorry for the difficulty in finding the Manitou since your flight was delayed. In the prearrival email we send to guests we try to give them all information and contact information needed for regular and late arrivals. As you mentoned, rooms 8-11 are smaller (you were in 10) with a queen bed in a loft and a single pullout futon. You might find Rooms 4, 5, 6 and 7 more to your liking. Parking can be challenging during ski season and coming in late does not help. However, we try to accommodate our guests if we know they are coming in late in every way possible.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your experience at the Manitou Lodge. The hot tub, being an old red wood hot tub is nicely maintained by a local company, San Miguel Building & Spa. We are currently getting a new roof which should make it even nicer.

This place was exactly what we needed. Its simple and small. It has a beautiful view right on the river. It was very clean and the breakfast was nice. Since we stayed in the summertime we opened windows and there was a nice breeze thru the room. It cooled off nicely. I would suggest this room in the summertime. The only complaint is that the sink is in the living area instead of the bathroom area and it is low and very small. Its frustrating to use. The bed was super comfortable! Read more

We thank you for your kind review. It is true that the sinks in Manitou B&B units 8-11 are configured in the rooms this way due to compact layout. Units 1-7 are configured differently offering a little more space for more guests in these units. You can view these rooms online at www.telluride.com

The Sleep Sofa
Left on 10/14/2010 for a stay in September 2010 | Susan
The photos should show this unit with the sleep sofa unfolded. When the sofa is unfolded, it is completely against the stairwell. If you have two people sleeping upstairs and two downstairs on the sleep sofa, the only one who can go to the bathroom without waking others is the person sleeping next to the bathroom on the sleep sofa. For four women over 50, this makes this unit a bad place to get a good night's sleep. In this particular unit, the problem was compounded by the fact that the sleep sofa was damaged; if you tried to crawl across the end to go to the bathroom, you would fall through it.
On the positive side, the bathroom had been remodeled very nicely and the common breakfast/lounge area was wonderful. Breakfast was served promptly and was more than adequate for our needs.
Telluride alpine Lodging did respond to our complaints after several calls and emails. We were promised a refund of half the price; we received $12.68 less than the refund we were promised. Read more

I came to Telluride for my first time and stayed at the Blue Mesa Lodge in the Village. The process to check in was a little confusing but they provided a phone number if I needed help. I arrived at 8pm and was apprehensive that I was going to be sleeping in my car when I couldnt find my key. I called the number and talked to a local person who said I was in the wrong check in location. She said she would meet me at the correct location. I meet her there and we discovered that I had messed up my reservation and was a day early. She took care of it and got me a room for the same price. The next day I went and checked in to the room I had reserved.
I was surprised to find out parking was an additional $20 per day. I was not happy about that being left out of the details. I did find free parking at the end of a gondola and bus trip.
Convenient, but tight quarters.

My husband and I have been coming to Telluride since the early 80s, but
find it increasingly challenging to find lodging that is reasonably priced. Our
location was as inexpensive as we could find, yet still pricey. We loved the
location, but the room was so small, that we had to walk across the fold-
out couch to get to the bathroom. Others had, too, as the springs were
broken from this approach...We loved the queen mattress upstairs, and the
flat-screen TV, but it would have been nice to have a coffee maker or
hairdryer. The floor space was so limited that we were challenged to find a
place to put suitcases or hang ski coats...It would be one thing if we were
paying $100/night, or even $120, but $176 was overpriced, but then that's
what we've experienced with Telluride. My husband is a physician, but we
can hardly afford to stay there...
However, the breakfasts were nice, and it was wonderful to have a parking
space in town.
Lastly, my boys indicated that the hot tub was pretty scummy... Read more

Thank you for reviewing your stay at the Manitou Bed & Breakfast. We appreciate your comments and suggestions. Manitou B&B is setup as a smaller, hotel facility (best for 2 or 3 people) and not a large spacious condo for 5 people as you had on your reservation. Next time you visit, we can look into a larger condo instead of a hotel property to accommodate your entire party. Thank you for your comments and we look forward to having you back in Telluride soon!

Thanks for reviewing your recent stay at the Manitou. We're glad you enjoyed the great price and location. Nice Unit - Crappy Customer Service
Left on 01/22/2010 for a stay in January 2010 | Sarah
The unit was small, but clean and comfortable. Also, the price was right - $99 for the middle os ski season. The registration process was a chore. Finding parking by their office was complicated. I had lost my purse earlier in the day and could not provide the credit card I used to fully pay for the room in advance. The staff had little sympathy and I nearly had to beg them to let me stay in the room - a room that had been paid for in full. I needed to check out about 6:00 am and the staff was snotty about that, too.
I would stay there again, but would hope for a much nicer and more understanding staff. Read more

Our experience was great from start to finish. The Manitou B&B was perfectly located and Jan was a great hostess. Our room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. One recommendation, maybe some sort of very small closet or hanging system. The hooks worked but we needed just a little more closet space.
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Manitou Lodge. We're glad you enjoyed the great location and friendly manager, Jan. The location is the best aspect of this B&B. I dont remember being notified of the fact that I had to stop by an Alpine Lodging office to pick up the keys and parking passes, so I had a bit of a run-around when arriving into town. Once I got into the room I was a bit disappointed of the room size. It was very tight with not much space for luggage and no table of any kind. The only other negative thing that I need to address is the fact that the walls are soooo thin! At 2am our neighbors came home and we could hear every word...and they were not even being that loud. Be aware that everything you say can be heard through the walls! I enjoyed our stay overall. Being able to hop out and walk into town or get on the gondola in minutes was great! Breakfast was minimal but ok. I'd recommend going for one of the bigger rooms if you can afford it. Read more

I've stayed in this room twice. It is a small room, even for just one person and storage space is a bit tight. But it is comfortable, efficient, clean, has a nice hot shower, and is close to everything in town, including the Gondola. Breakfast is served at 7:30 every morning, again nothing fancy, but always sufficient to get the day started in Telluride. I'll have no trouble either recommending this room, or staying in it again myself. Read more
