Description from the manager

Hunters Lodge provides a rare offering in Mountain Village – a spacious five-bedroom, log and stone private home, just a few minutes walk to the village core. This home was one of the first homes built in Mountain Village, and therefore boasts one of the best locations, just a short walk to the slopes, the market and the gondola. Very few homes in Mountain Village have such superb convenience!

The guest enters the home on the middle floor, where there is a warm, inviting great room featuring a kitchen, bar, dining table, and seating surrounding a wood burning fireplace. The kitchen has modern appliances from Viking and Fischer & P...Read more

    comfortable

Left on 05/04/2011 for a stay in April 2011

The house is tastfully decortated.  It's roomy and very comfortable.  Plenty to do as far as games and recreation on the inside.  This house was built near the year 2000 and is beginning to show it.  Certain features (faucets and downstairs kitchen) are now dated.  Audio and visual are a joke.  The main television is a "Trinitron".  A Red Roof Inn has more updated appliances than this house.  For a four million dollar residence, not one flat screen in the house.  No Ipod stations, no connections from an Ipad to a television were possible.  No televison in the second master suite.  No televison in the downstairs bedroom.  The audio in the house is an old Bose radio that can play one CD.  The juke box downstairs did not work.  The steam shower in the main bedroom did not work.  Two of the burners on the Viking stove had to be lit with a match.  The house was relatively clean upon arrival, but spiderwebs were hanging from the ceiling lighting features.  These are small issues but noticable. If your fussy, you'll question "For this money, I wonder what another residence would offer"!  We still had a relaxing time. I would shop around the next time.

Excellent rental company, comfortable house, great location

Left on 01/20/2011 for a stay in January 2011

We spent the week after New Year's at this house - 3 grandparents, 4 parents and 2 children and 1 infant and really enjoyed our stay. Telluride Rentals was extremely organized and responsive to our requests and needs plus they provide all your soaps for kitchen, laundry and bath and even bring replacements over if you need them (in our case they brought more paper towels and dishwashing detergent). We had a wi-fi issue and they got right on it.

The driveway was snow-plowed and the house in clean condition. Given the dry air in Telluride, I particularly appreciated the radiant heat floors and the humidifiers (at least 1 in every room). The mudroom has ample space for ski and gear storage as well as a boot drying machine that has capacity for 5 pairs of boots and 5 pairs of mittens which was awesome. There are two laundry rooms which was really handy with so many dirty socks and long underwear to wash. There's a real fireplace in the main living area and game area which were stocked with firewood and there are handy gas fireplaces in 3 of the bedrooms.

The house itself was well-equipped (lots of kitchen appliances you wouldn't necessarily expect to find like kitchenaid stand mixer, 2 food processors, plenty of spices, boxes of dry goods left over from other visitors such as tea, hot chocolate, etc.) The hot-tub was large, new and easy to access, though it doesn't have too much of a view, which didn't at all matter to our 3 year old who spent every afternoon in it. We didn't use the game room at all but it was amazingly well stocked with all kinds of fun games and a nice living/kitchen area and I could see it would be fun if you had a group of teenagers or 20 somethings. We didn't make use of the sauna/steam shower, but they have a full bath and were in good condition.

The bedrooms include two huge master suites (one with King and one with Queen) and those are extremely comfortable and nicely furnished. The two upstairs Queen rooms are a bit small and pale in comparison to the two master suites so we had to draw straws in which couples got which rooms. The downstairs double queen room is really spacious, huge fireplace, big bathroom and closet. It would work for a whole family of 4 or a gaggle of kids. The jacuzzi is right off of that room on a deck so you only have to take 2 frozen steps to get in it!

The pictures make the house look a bit more spacious than it really feels, for one thing, the main living room is overfurnished and everyone seemed to be tripping over statues, oversized benches and chairs all week and there is very little food storage space in the kitchen. The dining area won't seat more than about 8 or 9 people at once but you could put another 4 or 5 at the kitchen bar on barstools. That being said, we liked the comfort of the round table and the huge lazy susan to pass dishes around.

If you're planning on cooking every single night and having 6 people in the kitchen, it would be very cramped, but if you're going to eat most meals out or have only 1 person cook, it would be fine. I would recommend the owners do a bit of editing on kitchen items and that a new set of glassware be purchased as it was sort of mix-and-match for glasses.

On the whole, we really liked that this house feels like a home someone has really enjoyed a lot and made their own and not just like some corporate rental property. It made the experience a lot cozier.

As far as ski-in/ski-out, you could really only ski-out and that only if you were an advanced skier. We preferred to have someone drop us off less than 1 minute away by car in Mountain Village (close to enough to walk, but not carrying skis and wearing ski boots). The dial-a-ride system in Mountain Village is awesome - you call, they come immediately to pick you up and drop you off wherever you want. Couldn't be easier. And from Mountain Village you can take a free, super fast gondola over to the town of Telluride for dinner or shopping which seemed easier to us than going in the car. No need for a rental car at all really, especially since the shuttle services from Montrose are reliable and cost-efficient (one person's flight was cancelled and the shuttle company actually got her re-booked on a new flight, called her to tell her of the cancellation and came early to pick her up so she wouldn't get stuck another night!) Also, we bought groceries in Montrose and then discovered there's a perfectly decent grocery in both MV and in Telluride so it hadn't been necessary.

I should note, that while there was a garage, it had a car in it and two snowplows in front of it and so we couldn't use it if we had wanted to. That being said, there's room for about 4 cars in the driveway in front of the house so you don't really need the garage.

The views from the house are fine (sort of limited mountain and forest), nothing to die for, but then again, everytime you leave the house the views are amazing wherever you go, so it didn't matter a hoot to us. In the summer I imagine the views from the upper decks are awesome, but we didn't use them in winter. The super close location to mountain village was much more important and when I compared this property to several others, this one is really just about impossible to beat in that regard unless you stay in a condo.

The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that I found the price we paid to be quite high. What disappointed were basically those cramped upstairs bedrooms and the overfurnished main living area. Otherwise, absolutely everything was fantastic and I had a great experience with Telluride Rentals. Thanks to the owners and Telluride Rentals for an amazing stay!!!

    The perfect get-away

Left on 03/10/2010 for a stay in March 2010

Our stay in Telluride was nothing short of magical. The Hunter's Lodge was an ideal
home and located very well. We were as close to Mountain Village core as we could
be and still be in a house. Very nearly ski in ski out from Village Bypass. Everything
was walkable. The pool table, shuffle board, board games, hot tub, sauna and steam
were all put to good use. The house is extremely comfortable. We can't wait to go
    again.

    outstanding

Left on 01/22/2010 for a stay in December 2009

Hunters lodge was well located to all the facilities at mountain village and the home provided all you could ask for. We received excellent back up from the rental service, they even found our lost baggage and had it delivered to us. We had great snow and the skiing was outstanding. We simply had a wonderful relaxing holiday which was made special by the scenery.
