The area around Potsdamer Strasse located in Tiergarten is a truly emerging district. People of all kind mingling here: lots of different nations, high potential art people seeking for new open galleries as for good pieces in the already wellknown galleries as well, you'll see prostitutes and fat cars and from the mosque you can hear the singsong of the believers...
Within 5min walk right hand out of the house you will reach the "Mutterhaus Cafe Einstein". You will get served the very best and largest Wiener Schnitzel in town as Kaiserschmarrn and a lot of other german and austrian specialities. If you are lucky to stay in summer the beer garden belongong to the Villa is a splendid location to rest and enjoy a good beer or cool wine. ((website: hidden))
The Tiergarten - called also the green lunge of Berlin - is only 12 min walk into direction Potsdamer Platz away. Here is literally the center of the city and you will find the famous Siegessäule, called "Gold Else", the Brandenburger Gate, Jewish Memorial and Unter den Linden... The Park is a wonderful location to have a little peace and rest before again the exciting city gets you. A special tip is the "Cafe am Neuen See" in the center of the Tiergarten, close to the Zoo. It is a very nice restaurant where they serve good european food. They also have a casual beer garden and rowboats to rent. It is one of the most romantic places in Berlin.
If you follow into the North:
The Potsdamerstrasse leads towards the Tiergarten and is also worth to get a specific view by you. Recently it is changing a lot. It is a great insider tip for art lovers and fashion victims. A lot of new and emerging galleries moved from Mitte to Potsdamerstrasse because the place is much larger and more affordable meanwhile than Mitte.
You will find fashion labels like Murkudis and also a new Museum for contemporary art. Also well known galleries like Klosterfelde, Produzentengalerie.

Here you will also find the legendary old fashion "Victoria-bar" (Potsdamer Str. 102, (website: hidden)) famous for the well served cocktails. A stone through further you will find the "Kumpelnest" (Lützowstr. 23, (website: hidden)). That is an institution since ages here is always a party ongoing, also the Ex n pop where Nick Cave and Blixa Bargeld used to hung out.
The best organic soup you will find in "Ölweide-Imbiss" at Pohlstrasse (one cross street further, parallel to Kurfürstenstrasse). They also have a small organic food shop like a mom-and-pop grocery store of the old days. If you prefer a proper huge super-market you will find a Rewe-market and a turkish fruit store, Woolworth , the drugstore Rossman etc. in the opposite direction of Potsdamerstrasse, just around the corner of the apt.
It takes 15 min walk (or 5min by bus) to the Potsdamer Platz with it's certain shipping possibilities like the ARCADEN , the Sony-center and one of the beloved italian ice cream parlor inside of the ARKADEN. Also it is greta for Movie-lovers not only during the Berlinale - the international Berlin Movie Festival in February. The Cine-Star plays only non-dubt versions of movies, some of them with sub-titels.
On the way to the Potsdamer Platz you will find the National Galerie, built by one of the famous Bauhaus architects Mies van der Rohe. For real art-lovers is plenty more to discover in the "Gemäldegalerie" were all the old masters pieces are. On the way to Potsdamer Platz you will also strike the national library and the philharmonic orchestra.
Into the South – Charlottenburg & Schöneberg:
Enjoy the nice and authentic Berlin atmosphere of the Nollendorfplatz with it's cafes, bars, restaurants and lovely boutiques.
I especially recommend the wonderful huge farmers market at the Winterfeldt Platz - every Wen and Sat. You will be there within 8min walk. A few steps further you reach the authentic lively Akazienkiez with no tourist at all but a lot of street cafes and little shops.
Into the East:
Again - lots of galeries. Also the "90Grad" one of the well known clubs Berlins.
The new designed parc "Gleisdreick" on the rail way area is a nice recreative walk to Anhalter Bahnhof and Technik Museum.
