Clair de Lune (F...rench for “Moonlight”) has been a popular villa rental in the Terres Basses community of St. Martin for years – and it just got better! Through the fall of 2012 the villa underwent several projects to renew the look and feel of this Caribbean retreat – all of which you can read about in the following villa tour.

As you pass through the private gate and wind down the driveway towards Clair de Lune you easily notice that this villa has one of the healthiest and most vibrant gardens of any private property in the area. The driveway ends in a roundabout for easy drive-around access. There’s plenty of parking as well – but on your first visit to the villa we suggest you pull around to the double door front entrance so you can take in the incredible view straight through the living room and over the pool to the Caribbean Sea as you step into Paradise.

A large lap pool centers the upper deck at Clair de Lune while the lower deck offers a whirlpool with centre table (so you can sip drinks or play a card game while you’re in the pool of course). The lower deck has been completely refinished and is the ideal area to pull up one of 8 brand new chaises lounges for some afternoon tanning. From this vantage point you can take in the view over the manicured garden (with new night-time lighting) to the Caribbean Sea. Or, if you prefer some shade, the pool-side gazebo is a perfect spot to enjoy meals with friends or to sit and read the latest mystery novel.

Clair de Lune is conveniently located within a 2 minute drive of Plum Bay Beach, 3 minutes to Long Bay Beach, and 5 minutes to Baie Rouge Beach. And if you’re looking for restaurants, casinos and action at night Marigot and Maho are less than 15 minutes away.

  We had a terrific time at Claire De Lune. The property was lovely, lush well-kept grounds. And home was in a good state of repair. We had no major difficulties. We only have a few comments for possible improvement: 1) the master bedroom did smell strongly of cigarette smoke, and therefore we were unable to use it. We used another bedroom instead. 2) Overall, the \'white\' decor seems dated and monchrome. We would suggest an update, and injection of some colour. 3) the kitchen fridge has some corrosion on the exterior, but is otherwise functional. 4) Mosquitios are a problem.   Another great trip to a place that feels like home. Great trip once we arrived in St. Martin. Too bad that Delta does not fly there more often as our travel itinerary was not very satisfactory.

  Our Stay at Clair De Lune

  "Everything at LR was handled great. There were some hiccups with the on island service. The phone did not work for three days. We have always relied on the house phone, using a phone card for international calls. We were effectively cut off for three days. When we realized the size of the house, I wanted to call a friend to come on down and share it with us. I had no way to make the call and no one with Carimo offered a way to do it. By the time the phone was repaired it was too late. Great house and great location but it is older than we realized. It needs new mattresses in the bedrooms. The sound system was pathetic and hardly played CDs. The hair dryers did not match up with the outlets so you had to leave the bathroom and find an outlet to dry off. The maid was great however, the groundskeeper had a bit of an attitude."
