      Another wonderful holiday in Paradise

Left on 09/03/2011 for a stay in August 2011

Another wonderful holiday on Texada Island, and once again a very relaxing and enjoyable stay at Rosebank Cottage. Whenever the stresses of big city life start to get us down, we can always recharge at Rosebank. Whether the magnificent views from the dining room or from the decks, the amazing sunrises , the marine life, it has to be seen to be appreciated. We found Rosebank to be clean, quiet and most comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped for preparing meals , and the grocery store is conveniently around the corner. As kayakers, there was suitable beach access only minutes away. The owners were very courteous, friendly and welcoming. They have a wealth of information about Texada Island, its history and geography, and for us being avid kayakers, they were very helpful with directions for other suitable launch sites. There is lots of terrific paddling around the island and many seals to greet you as you go. A big thank you to Karen & Clarence,...See you next year. Ps: If you sell, it will be a sad day , but hopefully the new owners will carry on the tradition and character of Rosebank Cottage.

kayaking at Davie Bay.. sunset off Shelter Point.. marine life of island waters..

Basic acccommodations with a 5-Star View

Left on 08/04/2011 for a stay in July 2011

My husband and I stayed in the Blue Suite in July, 2011. Overall we liked this property although it was extremely basic accommodation. The bottom line is that it's older, has mismatched furniture and a musty smell. Those facts would deter anyone who likes luxury. But there are few options on Texada Island for accommodations, and we ended up enjoying the suite because of the incredible view and it's strategic location on a cliff side.

      Pro's
-amazing view of Vananda Bay from the full wall of windows in the living room (my husband witnessed the most amazing sunrise from the couch)
-quiet, peaceful location on a cliff overlooking the bay (saw some seals in the morning and birds all around), no traffic sounds, only a few other quiet homes nearby
-lots of room including a large living room & eating area, and a spacious kitchen
-full kitchen facilities (although we didn't cook while there)
      -very reasonable rate at $80/night
      -clean bathroom & kitchen
      - bowl of very nice fresh fruit provided
-friendly property managers who were easy to contact & responded quickly & were friendly

      Cons
-a musty smell in the suite upon arrival (improved with airing & I guess we got used to it)
-small bedroom with double bed & no view from the bedroom
-the balcony was a bit 'disconnected' from the suite (only a few steps away, but you have to leave the front door of the suite and the deck is off to the side by a shed). This deck has no protection from the shade and isn't totally private (from the guests in the other suite would pass you on their way to their car) tip: The other suite (ie . not the blue suite) appears to have a much better balcony (attached and covered, and more private)
-mismatched furniture that is a bit old-fashioned and sometimes was 'tacky' and worn
-the fuses blew if you used a hair blow dryer and coffee maker at the same time! (and no warning or instructions provided on how to deal with this!)
-parking is awkward and limited, and accessed off a very steep lane. Access to the cottage from the driveway requires a hike up and down a long flight of stairs. This is not suitable for someone with serious mobility issues.

If not for the location & view, we would have given the suite a 2-star rating. But we have to agree with 4-star rating that others gave, because of the incredible view and quiet location. Staying in this suite is truly getting your little bit of water-side paradise in the Gulf Islands.

By the way, this property is for sale! My husband and I seriously thought of buying it for the location and view. A major overhaul of the decor and furnishings would be required, though, before we'd move in! And the source of the musty odor would have to be found & remedied!

      Relaxation

Left on 02/10/2011 for a stay in August 2010

Rosebank Cottage offers peace and tranquility at an affordable price. The views from inside and out are quite spectacular. I fully expected to see a whale at any moment. Texada offers a variety of activities. Being an avid hiker and kayaker, there was no shortage of trails, beachcombing and scenic paddles, with "put ins" only minutes from the cottage. Our hosts, Karen and Clarence welcomed us with their vast knowledge of the area. I would definately recommend a stay at Rosebank Cottage for those seeking relaxation and serenity. Who knows maybe we will see you there, because we will be back.

the sunrise from Rosebank ahhhhh..... looking back, i hate to leave...

      Tranquility

Left on 02/09/2011 for a stay in June 2010

My wife and I visited Rosebank in June 2010. We loved waking up and sitting at the dining table watching the seals swim around and the eagles flying around the area. We even got to see an otter one day. This area and the island is a photographers dream whether you are an amateur or a professional. We loved walking around the area, it was a great get away from our hectic lives.
