Description from the owner
Parisians say that Montmartre is "un vrai village", a genuine village, and it truly is. If you avoid the tourist scene at Sacre Coeur, you are living just like a Parisian of old with all the neighborhood merchants and the same neighbors that you see each day as you go about your errands on the cobblestoned streets. Everyone who has ever stayed in our place has been enchanted with the "quartier", a very vibrant place.
We are close to music and theater venues, and there is a thriving local nightlife for young people or the young at heart as well as great shopping for food, art, clothing, antiques, you name it. There is even an excellent...Read more

This is a great apartment in a fantastic location. Myself and my boyfriend stayed at Laurie and Owen's apartment for a week over the new year and it was brilliant. Prior to our departure Laurie provided all the information we needed and then some. She even went to Gare du Nord and double checked for us that there was somewhere we could leave our luggage for a few hours before catching the Eurostar back to London!
The local information in the apartment was extremely useful and the local restaurants recommended were fab. The person who greeted us at the apartment upon our arrival was really helpful and spoke English which was a real bonus for us as our French isn't great...
Montmartre is a really fun area with lots to see and do. We had both been to Paris a number of times but this was the first time we had rented an apartment and we will never go back to hotels in Paris!
Enjoy!Response from Laurie & Owen Guitteau - 01/09/2013

So glad you enjoyed yourselves in spite of the weather, Abby. We look forward to your return. Happy 2013!!

Our 4 day Paris visit was wonderful in every way, but what made it most special was this wonderful apartment. Our family of 4 (inc. 2 teenage daughters) loved this apartment and the neighborhood. We really felt like we were part of the neighborhood for the time we were there; the little shops were adorable; the boulangeries and cafes so very Parisian! Never felt like a tourist while we wandered the narrow streets, full of character around every corner. The beds in the apartment were both wonderfully comfortable and my 2 daughters insisted that the sofa bed was far more comfortable than their regular beds back home. And after a nap on it myself, I have to agree! Laurie and Owen (the owners) were so gracious and helpful from the beginning, answering all of our questions and always going above and beyond to help us plan the perfect trip. Their advice was always spot on. And every recommended restaurant was a hit. Cannot recommend this apartment highly enough.

The apartment was compact but space was utilised very well. Its well located on a pretty street and close to two metro stops. The bed is very comfortable and we cooked a lot during our stay and had all the tools you would expect. I would definately recommend the apartment. The whole transaction was smooth and easy and Laurie, even though miles away feels attentive and informative ! Thanks !

My wife and I have stayed at this apartment on the rue des Trois on two occasions, most recently to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. The apartment is spacious, clean, comfortable and very well equipped including an extensive collection of guide books on Paris and France.
The local area is full of life and vitality with lots of small shops, cafes and bars located within a 5 minute walk from the apartment. The sandwich shop virtually opposite the apartment is great for lunch and there are several fresh provisions shops nearby.
The apartment is located close to two Metro stations which provides great flexibility when planning the next day of sightseeing. It is also a comfortable 20 minute walk to the Gare du Nord railway station.
The owner was very professional in all of our dealings with her when arranging the bookings. The information we received from Laurie before leaving home about the neighbourhood, location of bakeries, laundry, cafes etc helped make the arrival process as stress free as possible.
The bottle of red, fresh baguette and cheese that was waiting for us on arrival was the finishing touch to a perfect start for a wonderful Parisian experience. -

This adorable apartment provides the perfect home away from home! This is the second time I have stayed here and both times I was amazed at how easy Laurie and Owen have made it to feel welcome and comfortable in Paris. They have thought of absolutely everything! From the time you arrive to the day you leave, you have the support you need to make your trip especially joyful. The fabulous location is my favorite part of staying here. Walking out the door to the streets of Monte Marte is truly a treat. Surrounded by shops and restaurants, you are in a neighborhood of amazing history and culture. I can't wait to go back again!

The location was perfect, the apartment warm and comfortable, and the travel guidance provided by Laurie (the owner) made our first trip to Paris an easy and wonderful experience. Great location, accessible to multiple metro stations. Very quaint neighborhood with great restaurants, bakeries and shops, perfect for strolling and seeing the sights. Very close to Sacre Couer, and a short metro ride from most Parisian sights. This was our first trip to Paris, and I highly recommend staying in an apartment rather than a hotel. This apartment looks just as pictured, and was very comfortable, the perfect place to come to after a full day of sightseeing. Laurie was an amazing hostess, providing tips on the neighborhood, places to eat, etc. on email starting before our trip. Check-in worked well, and the management representative took the time to even program the wi-FI code on our iPad, and had a bottle of wine/ cheese waiting. Free international calls were provided, which was great for keeping in touch with home. The only drawback to the apartment was that the elevator was not functional during our week stay. For us, this was only an issue during arrival and departure with suitcases (5 stories up a steep staircase), but may present a problem for those with physical limitations. The neighbors in the apartment building were great- there are many families with kids that live there so evenings are quiet. We would definitely recommend this rental to friends. Thanks, Laurie and Owen, for helping make our first trip to Paris so memorable! We will definitely be back!

Having travelled to Paris before and briefly explored the Montmatre area, we decided this is where we wanted to stay.
The appartment was wonderful, ideally situated in the heart of Montmatre and placed between the Pigalle,Abbess and Blanche metro stations. This is an area where you can eat well, buy fresh produce and explore Paris. The appartment was very well equipped with electrical appliances and the facilities to be able to cook up a storm if required! There were plenty of reference/guide/phrase books to help you to navigate the city. The appartment was also clean and well furnished and the communication from the owner and the agents was excellent. It was a true home from home. Thanks Laurie and Owen! Aurevoir..from Scotland -

Bon jour!
Visit this lovely apartment centrally located in the art center of Paris. The delightful home is easily accessible and is nestled in the village of Montmarte. Located within walking distance of brasseries, boulangeries, Sacré-Coeur, shopping, and theatres, this darling Parisian home is also conveniently central to the local Metro station stop where transportation is available to many historical Paris destinations!
The well maintained apartment offers the ease of being "home” while touring a world-class city. Fresh open-air markets provide the finest in locally grown fresh fruits & vegetables for a taste of culinary delights! Since the apartment includes a self-contained kitchen, the open-air markets present a delightful array of options for the traveling gourmet chef!
The unit is cozy and comfortable after a long day of touring many historical sites! The bedroom is roomy and the sofa bed provides additional sleeping space for travelers.
We would recommend the apartment to all of our family and friends, as it is charming and much easier to enjoy the city than staying in a tourist hotel. The feeling of experiencing the culture of Parisian life is only felt by living as a Parisian.

There is nothing that one can say to describe the incredible adventure we had in this charming apartment. The ambience and location are perfect and the owner is a Jewel. There is a personal note book giving "hints" to Montmatre living and Paris in general. This wonderful place is everything the description claims and much, much more. This apartment was recommended by a friend who stayed there last winter and the only problem I see is just how fast we can get back. The eight nights were a dream and we have already asked the owner to block it for us next Spring! Thank you Laurie! Superb!

We recently spent a week in this lovely Montmartre (Paris)apartment. Our experience was amazing as our hosts have thought of every detail to make the stay very special. It is certainly not your standard vacation rental. On the contrary as it is the owners' own space that they share with lucky travelers. It is fully equipped with item that one would want that is impossible to think of or to bring along. The owner also provides a multitude of informational materials - places to eat and many guide books. Truly a memorable experience.

This review is long overdue but I had to write down what a wonderful experience my husband, son, my mother and myself had in Laurie & Owen's Montmartre apartment.
Laurie was very professional and quick in her response to my enquiry and went above and beyond in furnishing information about the apartment, the surrounding area and other great places to visit in the wonderful city of Paris.
The apartment itself is very quaint and has all the amenities you would need. It's cozy and I loved the building with the wonderful spiral type staircase. The elevator was a plus for my mum with her knees.
The neighborhood was perfect - a stone's throw away from Sacre Coeur and plenty of restaurants, metro stops, bakeries and all things wonderful about France. We were busy on all four days that we were there and we all looked forward every evening to coming home to our home away from home.
I will definitely be returning one day and when I do I hope that Laurie and Owen will have availability!

Paris was beautiful at this time of year! And the apartment was wonderfully situated for strolls to Sacre Coeur, the local Christmas Markets, bakeries, fromageries, and so many little shops and markets! Metro lines were close by as well. Our hosts had lists of wonderful restaurants nearby and we were disappointed by none.
The apartment itself was beautiful once inside. From the outside you might wonder what you have gotten yourself into, but once you step inside the apartment it was spacious (for Paris) and homely. -

Left on 01/20/2011 for a stay in December 2010
This was our first trip Europe for our family (daughter 10; son 13) husband and me. We could not have picked a better place to stay. Laurie proved to be a very valuable resource from the moment we booked the apt in June 2010, to our arrival Dec. 17. She sent us suggestions for sites our kids might be interested in visiting; placed to eat; answered our questions on cell phones and using ATMs, and she checked on us once we arrived as an unusual snowstorm blanketed the city in beautiful fluffy snow.
The apartment offered plenty of room for our family. The kitchen had everything we needed and we ate breakfast in, packed snacks and had dinner out. It was so cozy that we actually spent at least two out of our 15 days stay in the apt., reading, eating fresh croissants from the boulangerie down the street, and Steve and I enjoying a glass of wine.
The apartment has an extensive library that we used often as we planned our outings. My daughter loved a shopping Paris booklet that she used to schedule a Girl's Day Out. Laurie maintains an excellent notebook of restaurant suggestions in the neighborhood which we used often. The beds were very comfy, and the bathroom and shower were fine for the 4 of us. The view out the kitchen window of Parisian rooftops and windows is one of the best memories I have of this wonderful place.
The location was perfect for us. There is a full service supermarket- CarreFour, down the hill about 3 blocks, where we stocked up often. Up the hill and around the corner are 3 boulangeries , also around the corner is Sacre Coeur--beautiful at night, a short walkuphill is Montmartre Butte, where some of our most famous artists- Pissarro, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Picasso hung out.
We were looking to a neighborhood experience and we certainly got that in Laurie's apartment. Residents in the building were very welcoming, and we watched neighborhood life each morning. We will be back!

Left on 01/17/2011 for a stay in December 2010
From the moment we contacted Laurie, to our arrival back in Texas, she treated us like family. The apartment offered plenty of room for my 13 year old son, 10 year old daughter, my husband and me. Unfortunately, this december was the coldest in Paris in 30 years, but it didn't dampen our spirits. The apartment made for a cozy retreat, and we actually spent a couple of our 15 days, sitting around, reading, eating warm croissants, and enjoying a glass of wine (not for thekids!). The apartment has quite a good selection of books on paris--my 10 year old shopper loved a small booklet on where to shop and she mapped out a day for us girls.
There are 3 boulangeries within walking distance- le Grenier a Pain was our favorite and judging by the line out the door most mornings, it's also a neighborhood favorite. The Carrefour Market is a full service grocery store- about 2-3 blocks downhill, and we stocked the kitchen with cheese, milk, eggs and other staples allowing us to have breakfast and snacks at night in the apt. There is a very interesting assortment of shops immediately around the apartment--my daughter loved Pylons, and Sacre Cour is a must see--just around the corner. There are atms throughout the neighborhood, which offered the best exchange rate.
The apartment was quiet, and we loved the location as we crawled back after a long day of sightseeing, eating, museums, eating, watching street performers, eating and ...did I mention we did quite a bit of eating? Laurie checked on us via email as snowstorms enveloped the city (it was just beautiful), and her close friends were a phone call away.
Having internet in the apartment was an added bonus, particularly for the kids as they corresponded with friends back home and my husband who posted hundreds of pictures on FB. The notebook Laurie prepared for visitors was our guide, as we tried restaurants she recommended in the neighborhood, used the laundromat around the corner and successfully got our laptop to recognize the wi- fi signal.
This was our first trip to Europe and the kids can't wait to go back. We will surely call Laurie when we do. -

This was absolutely the best way for our family to enjoy Paris. We immediately felt attached to the clean, comfortable, and well-located property. Among the things I liked best:
* the books -- the home comes with a library of the finest travel books, including a wonderful cookbook
* the WiFi -- we were able to use the 'net to plan adventures and send pictures of pastries to our loved ones.
*the kitchen -- perfect. Cute, functional, tidy, with very good pots, pans, and utensils.
* the support. The owner called and checked on us, one of her dear friends checked on us. We knew who to call if something unexpected came up.
* The guidance. The binder that comes with the unit is friendly, informative, and thoughtful. It was actually a joy to read and a great guide to both the home and the area.
We loved our dream stay and have told all of our friends about this haven in Paris. We truly hope to return again and again.

The Paris apartment of Laurie and Owen Guitteau is in the very interesting neighborhood of Montmartre. It is a true neighborhood with children and babies in strollers and many nice shops for a variety of things. We especially enjoyed the four great boulangeries within five minutes walk; we ate baguettes as we walked down the street, just like the Parisians. Of course, there are tourists as well since Sacre-Coeur is only a short distance away. In fact, all of Paris is easily accessible since the apartment is near both abbesses and anvers Metro stops. The apartment is small but nicely appointed and easy to live in. We frequently cooked in the well equipped kitchen, taking advantage of the great food shops in the neighborhood. Of course, eating out was also delightful, and the owners have thoughtfully compiled a list of their nearby favorite restaurants, in addition to the many other courtesies they extended. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are recommending the apartment to our friends.

The apartment is very pleasant, compact but well stocked and laid out. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided, including a great library of resource books to help you plan your daily adventures. Suggestions and tips are generously offered by the owner, Laurie, so that you can get the most out of your holiday. Situated conveniently between two metro stations, the apartment is steps away from a vibrant neighborhood that is especially a treat for cooks and those who like to eat: great butchers, fishmongers, produce, and, of course, award-winning boulangeries - bakeries. As a family of four (two girls, 8 & 11, were happy to share the very nice sofabed), we found this a great place to stay in Paris.

We had a great experience at this apartment. The location of this apartment is
second to none. Montmarte feels like a village with loads of fabulous shops
and places to get a tasty bite. Anvers metro station is a two minute walk and
is a very convient way to get around the city. We stayed there for five days
with our kids and they had a ball. The highlight was spending new years eve
at the Sacre Coeur and then being able to walk down the hill and straight into
our beds at the end of it. Overall a great experience and a great service. -

Santa Barbara, CaliforniaWe Love This Flat!
Left on 04/04/2010 for a stay in December 2009
We have stayed in Laurie and Owen's Paris flat three times over the past six years. Generally a week to 2 weeks at a time. Our most recent visit was Christmas 2009. Our family now considers this apartment home!
Each time we have stayed in the flat, we were met by a wonderful local agent who supplied us with a typical french welcome. Flowers, cheese, bread, wine. After our long flights, we were thrilled to have someone take care of us.
The flat is on the 4th floor (5th US) and is at the rear of the building, so much quieter than other flats which are situated on the street. The building is typical french, six stories high and built in the mid to late 1800's. The interior is well maintained with a security door and even an elevator!
The unit is beautifully furnished and maintained. It has 1 bedroom and a sofa sleeper in the living room. The sofa is a special model so it feels as a bed, not a sleeper.
Our party included husband, wife and 2 boys (term used loosely as they are 13 and 21). There is plenty of room, even in the winter!
All the windows are operable. It is wonderful to have the true light and air.
The kitchen is compact, but fully functional. We mostly eat in because we love to shop for fresh food in Paris and try different cuisines. Markets are close by.
Laurie and Owen's book in the bookcase is a wealth of information about markets and restaurants. You feel as if someone is guiding you over the whole of Montmartre.
The building is situated close to 2 metro stops (Anver and Abbesses). It is also near the funicular at Sacre Coeur.
I can't think of a negative. As you can see we love Laurie and Owen's place and we plan to stay there again!
