Apartments overlooking parks are rare in Paris and the window above this one lets in loads of sun all year round. You can just see the top of the Eiffel Tower lit up on the hour at night and, if you lean out the window, Sacre Coeur is just up the hill. There...Read more

After experiencing a hotel room in another location which was small and cramped, Barbara's apartment at Place D'anvers was very comfortable in a wonderful location. It was close to the Metro, Sacre Coeur and Rue de Matrys, which is a wonderful shopping strip with many cafes and shops. The view of the park is lovely, the kitchen very functional and the apartment was warm - we were there over Christmas. The apartment also has a bath, which was a godsend after a day out walking! Barbara was always prompt in replying to emails and courteous and generous. Tom and his partner, who greeted us on arrival, were also very helpful with advice on where to shop for groceries etc. The apartment provided exactly the kind of Paris experience we had hoped for!

Left on 11/19/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Service: booking was straightforward despite my anxiety of giving money to a stranger on the Internet I was reassured by using PayPal. Owners communication by email was excellent and full information was quickly given.
We arrived at the apartment a little early to find Tom fixing the blind in the bedroom. The place is just perfect and the pictures on the web page don't do it justice. We took a taxi from Charles de Gaulle e50 covered the trip with a tip. We had 4 large bags and I am partially sighted so it seemed a stress free choice.
In our first few hours we were amazed by the surrounding shops and atmosphere Montmartre has to offer. The area is pleasent with the Pigali far enough away not to impact at all.
Supermarket is 5 minutes walk, butchers, bakers, all couple hundred yards away.
As are a miriad of retaurants some better value than others. A street painter let us know where he ate - they don't speak English but they know how to cook!
We cooked our first meal in the superbly equipped kitchen. The gas hob is a treat to use, and clean afterwards. Dishwasher, fridge, and oven all nicely organised. Fully equipped utensils.
It feels as if someone has let me stay in their house rather than just equip a kitchen for the rental market.
A short walk at 8pm-ish took us to the Sacre Coeur Basilica which was a delight. It was really busy with a good natured crowd, a group singing, and a beautiful November night only Paris could provide.
We can see the top of the Eiffel Tower from the sofa with its search light illuminating the slight haze, and the park gives a nice open space to stare at and contemplate the next great adventure.
Taxi to the Louvre was e8 and e20 with tip to Eiffel Tower. We walked from the Champs Élysées to the apartment in about 45 minutes but stopped to window shop and look at the sights. A determined walker could do this in less time.
I can not reccomend this apartment strongly enough. I feel safe comfortable and very very happy.

Having read Barbara's book at least five times I therefore knew the apartment very well! The park view and glimpse of the eiffel tower top are all there as promised and after a day of walking taking a bath is perfection and obviously a luxury - so buy nice bubbles. In the week we spent it was a pity my sister and I did not hold a dinner party, as it's all there for the making. Being seconds away from the Tourist bus stop is fantastic, only 34 euro for a 2 day pass and that links to all 4 Tourist areas - helps if it's raining! The location is perfect walk across the road and start your trip up to the Sacre Coeur but visit the non- souvenir shops on the bottom road before you ascent! Friday night market food is not be missed, wonderful quality. Will be making plans for a longer visit next year.

Melbourne, Victoria, AustraliaSpacious apartment, great value and location
Left on 05/15/2012 for a stay in May 2012
My partner has been to Paris many times, and says this apartment is really spacious compared to most. He also says it's great value for money compared to other places he's stayed. It has a full sized bath (apparently rare in Paris rental apartments), a really well fitted kitchen with dishwaher and washing machine, and a great pantry where guests leave items they haven't finished. So there was plenty of coffee, and we left a large packet of tea bags and some beautiful strawberry jam we enjoyed with baguettes for breakfast. This is a really nice personal touch about the apartment. The living room is also spacious, and has a lovely view out over the park. Location-wise, it's just a couple of minutes walk to anvers metro station. This is not one of the very upmarket areas of Paris, but we were very comfortable there, and my partner says an apartment like this would be at least twice the price in the upmarket areas. There are lots of places to eat nearby, and a number of excellent supermarkets within walking distance. The only thing which I raised with the owner, and which is being addressed, is the need for a more comfortable mattress. She's on to this, so I have no hesitation in saying 'book this apartment for its space, fitout, comfort and proximity to cafes, food shops and the metro'. And enjoy Paris! What a fabulous city!!

A genuine Parisian apartment with everything at my fingertips. The location truly laid Paris at my feet. Multiple restaurants, bars, cafes, and eateries with in easy reach. Supermarket and Pharmacy just round the corner. A short hop to the Sacre Coeur (this shouldn't be missed). 100 metres to Tour Bus Excursion stop with interconnects, and onto the Eiffel Tower. At night from the forth floor window I could actually determine the Eiffel Tower peeking over the roof tops.
The apartment provided me with all the comfort, amenities, and convenience I could have asked for. Wifi, stereo, television, everything and all my needs were catered to.

This apartment has a creative feel to it. I found it an excellent place to launch my ventures into the theatre. The park view from the window is fabulous, and I spent lots of "thought hours" just drinking coffee, looking out the widow and wondering about how i finished up staying at such a great spot. When not out the door at the theatre, i cooked for some friends in the polished kitchen, and can confirm that everything works. To sum up, this is an apartment which is well placed in the right area of Paris with a lovely 'feel' to it. I have stayed in lots of apartments in the world which do not have that.

The Place
Good for big family of small kids, there are 6 of us and it's big enough to house all of us. Take note, I have 4 small kids...
All the amenities are there. Internet, TV, fine sampling of aretha Franklin... Kitchen is a blessing... Great place to be back after hours of walking around Paris. Thank god there is a lift.
Beautiful view of the park from window... a very rare things to get in Paris.
The Surrounding
Stone throw away to Metro (Anvers), L'Open Tour hop on hop off station. Walking distance to Sacre-Cur Basilica... Moulin Rouge... Good for amelie Poulain fanatic. Take note, it's near Montmarte area... so it can be a love / hate situation. Please read more on what Montmarte has to offer.
There is fresh market right outside the door step on Friday afternoon - evening ... great to sample local offering especially cheese.
Foods are everywhere. For Muslim travelers, take note... there are few halal cafe nearby... very convenience.
Few stores around the apartment for sundry ... Carrefour and Darty The Services Easy to deal with. I had difficulty to get my payment across and the owner has been very patient dealing with my ultra stupid bank. Straightforward checking in.
The minus ...
Since it's near the park and hangout place, it can get a bit noisy with youth hanging out below ... no big deal for us though. We all like the sound of kids playing at the park.
The concierge does not speak english at all ... we've been warned though.
The Verdict
Go ahead and book this apartment, it probably be the second best decision you made... the first is to visit Paris of course ... Thanks BB ... -

Thank you so much Barbara for all your help, and for opening your beautiful Paris apartment to me. Upon your wonderful recommendations I really lived a wonderful real Parisian life. All your advise before the trip was fantastic, and made it really easy for me to find what I needed. The apartment itself was perfect. Very clean, "designer trendy", and I loved the window overlooking the park. I love the area of Monmartre, and it was easy to discover all of Paris from there. Although I was lazy, and spent my days just in discovering all the local cafes and writing. An inspirational and homely home. I will be coming back for sure, (for the writing of the sequel to my book I hope!) "Merci beaucoup"!!!

My most pleasant stay in Paris! I arrived on friday afternoon and loved this apartment since I got in. Not only the decor was great, but I had a look out of the window: what a sprightly market in that huge square full of big trees! My friends had the bright idea to go shopping there so we got a full fridge for the week-end and a gourmet dinner without fatigue! The apartment is extremely comfortable and witty, furnished with great taste, with a magic, refined atmosphere framed in a relaxing view of Paris.I choose to sleep on the convertible bed and ...surprise! What a romantic moonlight caressing me! Hope to go back soon!

I stayed in the apartment with my parents and sister, it was a cosy fit but comfortable. The living/dining area has a charming view of a park and the kitchen was well-equipped. Great bathroom, lovely spaces and colour. Location is unbeatable, just pop out the front door and you're in the thick of things, with a great little market, the Moulin Rouge just up the street and Sacre Coeur and the magical Montmartre just a stroll up the hill. Ideal.

I wasa there in april to celebrate my 50th birthday. We are an Irish family from Kinsale, County Cork. Our group consisted of my wife and I, our 15year old son and 13year old daughter.
from arrival we knew we were on a winner! Barbara's directions ensured we arrived without a hitch.
The appartment has everything you could possibly need and the location is absolutely perfect. You are literally 3 mins from the metro which makes everything just go so smmothly. We stayed in the appartment for 4 days and managed to keep two teenagers entertained for the duration.
I can heartily recommend every aspect of this little gem. It made my 50th birthday a memorable occasion. I will be going back and would recommend this to anyone who wants to get in to the real spirit of Paris! -

I loved this apartment so much. I stayed for a month. At times, I felt like I was going "home" to "my" apartment. The window that opens out to the park on Pl d'Anvers is lovely. A friend in New York who grew up in Paris told me to stay near anvers. I loved being in an area where I felt like a local. The farmers market on Fridays was really nice. I found a great coffee shop (Kooka Boora Cafe) that made really great coffee and espresso (strangely hard to find in Paris!).
Everything was easy -- the money exchange, getting into the apartment, etc. Barbara has done a great job setting up the place to make it feel like a home and not like a rental.
I hope to stay in the apartment again soon. -

A Paris Adventure
I have stayed at 10 place d'Anvers twice and both times have been memorable. The first time was with two English girlfriends in 2009. We strolled, biked and when our feet complained, took the buses or the Metro back as it dropped us a few yards from the door. On foot we went up to Sacré Coeur and gazed at Paris at our feet, we spent a champagne tinted evening at the Moulin Rouge watching flying petticoats, visible garters and more. Unlike Abigail Adams in late 18th century, we did not cringe at these wholesale affronts to her sensibilities but cheered wholeheartedly before walking home, early in the morning, through the red district.
The second time was in 2010 and more studious but I cherish the moments when writer's block struck, I'd peer through the window overlooking the park from where faint children's laughter and shrills sometimes reached me. I marvelled as I watched young fathers (especially on weekends) put their little ones on rides or helped them take their first steps. The best was going downstairs on Fridays, when the street is blocked on both sides, and buy fresh produce from the street-turned-into-market just at the door. Not to mention every morning eating fresh baguette and/or croissants.

I spent a delightful weekend in Paris in august 2010 with 2 friends and stayed at this delightful apartment. It was a "working weekend"(lots of talking) but was made fantastic by the location. I especially like the way the view from the balcony over the park across the road also allows a delicious glimpse of Sacre Coeur if you turn your head. It is so close to Metro (Place D'Anvers), bikes and walking distance to almost anything you need and I particularly like the Indian restaurant nearby. It is well equipped and elegant and comfortable and I am planning to go again soon for a longer time.

We specifically looked for an apartment that would be close to the Montmartre area without being in the midst of all the tourists. This apartment was a perfect location. Just a short walk up to the neighborhood where you enjoy amazing views of the Sacre Coeur. It's up a hill, so you can take the funicular. We had breakfast there several mornings before the tourist crush arrived and it was so peaceful and fun. At the corner of the street in front of the apartment is a great subway stop that easily gets you all over Paris in minutes and a handy tourism kiosk for recommendations and information. The neighborhood is a little seedy so you have to be comfortable with some Paris dirt, but I felt completely safe and lived like a Parisan for a week. A great patisserie was right at the corner, two options for grocery shopping and a Starbucks only two subway stops away directly in front of the Moulin Rouge. The only downside was the noise. It's across the street from a large park filled with happy children playing day and night. So if you love the sound of children having a great time it shouldn't be a problem. They leave at dark. We also had some weekend trouble with drunks on the street late into the night, but I'm sure that's very random. Loved the apartment, lovely Parisian windows and a great kitchen. Bed could use a pad as we found it a little stiff - but that's probably preference as well. Barbara was excellent to communicate with all the way from australia! Her process for getting into and out of the apartment without any human involvement was amazing and worked like a charm!
Response from Barbara Biggs - 11/03/2011
Owner
The park is full of children playing but if you close the windows the noise is blocked out. Also, these guests were there during Easter holidays when there is no school. Normally the park is quiet except on weekends and after school until dark when the gates are locked. The bedroom is at the back of the apartment and is always quiet. Yes, as our guest said, the occasional drunk person on a Saturday is something I contend with in my own upmarket suburb at home in Australia too. Very random. As for the neighbourhood being 'seedy', two metro stops up, which in Paris is a neighbourhood away even though you could walk it in 5-10 minutes, there are some shops that sex toys etc. but it also has Paris' theatre district and the famous Moulin Rouge, which is itself a bit risque being a burlesque show. What some may consider seedy, others may consider risque and interesting. The apartment is at the junction of several distinct areas quite different from each other. If you turn right out of the apartment, you'll come to a heavily touristic area with many people visiting Sacre Coeur. If you turn left you end up in a quiet, genteel neighbourhood full of residents (many writers and people in the film industry which discovered the area about a decade ago) where tourists rarely venture. If you walk two metro stops away you end up in the 'risque' and theatre district, but then you have to walk past Rue des Martyrs before that, which is one of Paris' famous gourmet food streets, along with Rue Lepic nearby.

Left on 11/01/2011 for a stay in May 2011
I stayed in this apartment for a week in May 2011. All in all it was a fabulous experience. The location is perfect; close enough to the touristy areas of Montmartre but also within the excellent residential working class area of the 9th arrond. There are a number of convenient metro stops within a few blocks depending on your destination. Every kind of shop for food, clothing, etc. is within a few block radius, as well as a beautiful park across the street. The apartment itself was immaculate, beautifully decorated and user friendly. I found the bed especially comfortable;the kitchen was wonderfully designed to actually cook which I always try to do when staying in Paris; additionally the Friday market in front of the building has everything you could need to cook and/or eat an amazing meal. Although I didn't need to use the television, it was challenging to figure out but I have since been informed by the charming owner (a lovely australian author, be sure to read her wonderful book about renovating this apartment) that the instructions have been updated. The bathtub is absolutely wonderful and I love my baths; although there is a shower attachment I found it a little low to truly have a comfortable shower but worked well enough; I would take the bathtub over the shower most days. Although the weather was quite warm when I was there the apartment stayed at a perfect temperature and was so pleasant to have the windows open in the late afternoons with sounds of children playing drifting in. If noise is a problem closing the windows eliminates noise level. I love that the apartment reflects the wonderful taste of the owner and ones feels they are staying in a real paris home rather than a sterile rental. I have stayed in Paris over 18 times in the past 9 years and this is one of the very best experiences, thanks Barbara! Communications with the owner were excellent, easy and friendly. I highly recommend this property!

The Montmartre and South of Pigalle area are a perfect blend between the touristic and cultural opportunities of the City of Light and the feel to live like a real Parisian. This apartment has a wonderful outlook into the garden of Square d'Anvers with is giving to one of the most pleasant avenues in Paris - Avenue Trudaine. On Friday - evenings there is a delicious food-market with an emphasis on bio-foods but this should not be Paris if it were not very strict on the bio-side. Great cheeses - wonderful fish and meats - it has it all, as have many of the great foodie-paradise shops in the very near Rue des Martyrs. The apartment itself is very well equipped to cook it all and eat it then with one of the best views the city has to offer.Although we were only the two of us we felt that staying there with 4 people would be perfectly alright.Barbara is a wonderful and trustful person to deal with and the rental procedure went flawless.Perfect!

This apartment's location is a sensation. It is right in the heart of the most exciting part of Paris, the most exciting city in Europe. It is across the road from The Moulin Rouge, a short walk to Sacre Coeur Basillica which has an unforgettable view all over Paris from its portico, near a fascinating cemetery with ancient mausoleums to the famous, down the hill from where a truckload of famous artists lived and worked, and surrounded by great cafes. The locstion is also a stone's throw from the Paris Metro. The apartment itself is thoughtfully appointed and clean, with a lovely outlook to a pleasant garden square, with no noise issues. Handy to a supermarket. You could easily base your Paris stay here and, in fact, should as Montmartre, in many senses, expresses the Paris of legend. It is easy to obtain the key to the apartment entry and quite secure so easy for a young or older woman travelling solo as much as for a young family or baby-boomer couple. Four of us stayed quite comfortably and ate in as much as possible to protect the family holiday budget. The bath is a bonus as is the book The accidental Renovator written by the owner about her experience of renovating the apartment itself.

Style is the most important thing for us and we hunted high and low to find an apartment that had the level of design that suits us. This apartment was perfect from the moment we opened the door. We loved the window overlooking the park and often sat there to have our morning coffee and croissant, which we bought from the bakery at the end of the park. The open air tourist bus at the other end of the park took us all over Paris on a three-day ticket which allowed us to get on and off the bus at all the Paris monuments, museums and art galleries. We found the bed quite comfortable and the kitchen well appointed. Montmartre just up the hill was especially wonderful. We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone for whom interior design and location are important.

My husband and I recently spent three wonderful weeks in this apartment. We have stayed in several apartments in Paris in this price range and this was by far the most comfortable and best equipped we've seen. The kitchen and bathroom were a real treat after some we have experienced. The lovely view over the park ensured that we never forgot we were in Paris. Being able to read Barbara's story of her purchase and renovation of the apartment made the stay even more interesting. The convenience of this apartment is a further plus. Everything is close by - metro, bus stop, supermarket, Friday afternoon/evening market, restaurants (we especially liked the food and staff at La Table d'Anvers) and, of course, Montmartre which is such an amazing place, especially early in the morning before the tourists arrive. Booking our stay was easy, Barbara always responded quickly to emails, and we received a warm welcome and introduction to the apartment from the concierge. We are already planning our next visit.

Great location! Service and reservation process was effortless; very communicative and responsiveness regarding questions. Building manager very helpful. Accessible location with 2 subway options. Lots of restaurants, vendors, park across the street. Nice view from the front apartment window. Great for strolling. Location walking distance to Sacre Coeur, a great sight seeing opportunity! Apartment was cozy, has all the amenities to make you feel right at home. Only have great things to share...would definitely use this venue again!

RomeCome sentirsi a casa a Parigi - How to feel at home when in Pari
Left on 10/23/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We've visited Paris many times and stayed in hotels and apartments, but this time the choise was excellent: the apt. is so nice and elegant fully furnished and the view on the square is so relaxing and typically "Parisienne".
The Metro station is 50 mt far from the apt. and the gourmet shops of the area are unique. And Montmartre is just 5 minutes walking! We hope to be back soon... -

RaleighVisit with daughter

My husband and I spent 6 nights in Ms.Biggs apartment in the 8th while we visited our daughter working in Paris. We found the location convenient to the Metro, restaurants and shopping. The apartment was clean and well appointed for preparing meals. We were across the street from a small park with a children's playground. We were lucky enough to be in town for the Friday food market and on Saturday/Sunday a antique/flea market which was wonderful. Everything was as described by the owner and she was easy and ethical to work with.

The apartment is actually in the 9th arrondissement adjacent to Montmartre in the 18th not the 8th

MelbourneA Taste of the Real Paris
Left on 10/22/2011 for a stay in May 2011
The apartment was a breath of fresh air after staying in hotels for a month. It instantly felt like home. So tastefully decorated and everything you need to feel comfortable is within reach. The bed is comfy. Everything is in working order. There is a lift which is really helpful I took everything out of my suitcase put it away and had a long hot shower, washed clothes made a coffe with in the first hour,I then strolled up to Moulin Rouge for a peek. The metro is across the road,a cafe on the corner, and a delightful park across the street.
Staying at the apartment uplifted my travel weary spirits. Loved every minute of its hospitality.
