Description from the owner

PICASSO SLEPT HERE, WHY NOT YOU? A freshly renovated town-house in the same leafy courtyard as Picasso's Montparnasse studio. Four bedrooms, two baths, sleeps eight, five minutes’ walk to the Luxembourg Gardens. Very central with fast, easy access to all the sights via public transport.

Our family's spacious, high-ceilinged, 2,200-sq-ft duplex positively drips with authentic Parisian patina and charm. Villa Picasso is not a sterile “rental property”, but a cozy home. It is virtually unchanged since it was built 107 years ago, and is often used for film and photo shoots. It has been thoroughly renovated since March 2013. The 5-room...Read more

    Additional Location Information

Villa Picasso is ideally located for visiting all of Paris, on foot or by public transport. It is an easy 15-minute stroll to St-Germain des Près with its renowned cafés and high-end shopping, 20 minutes walk to the historic Latin Quarter, 25 to Notre Dame Cathedral, 5 minutes to the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens, 30 to the tree-shaded quais of the Seine. And you are surrounded by the inimitable ambiance of Montparnasse, which has long attracted famous artists and writers from around the world.

If you prefer to ride, the house is extraordinarily well served by public transport: It is literally 10 steps from 2 Metro (subway) lines at the Raspail station. The n°6 line will whisk you directly to the Eiffel tower in 7 minutes, to the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees in 15 minutes. The n°4 line (with a quick change) takes you to picturesque Pigalle and Montmartre in 30 minutes, or directly to the heart of Saint-Germain des Près in 6 minutes with its famous cafés and high-end shopping; in 8 minutes you will be in the heart of the Latin Quarter, just steps from the Notre Dame Cathedral; and in 30 minutes you'll reach the world's most famous flea market.

A public bus that stops just across the street from the house will take you to the Louvre in 12 minutes, or to Paris’s most famous department stores in 20. A double-decker sightseeing bus service also stops just across the road every 15 minutes. Hop on for a guided tour of Paris. You can hop on or off at any stop. It is the easiest and quickest way to get acquainted with all the sights of the city.

Immediately around the house you will find literally dozens of restaurants for every taste and pocketbook, as well as museums, theatres, cafés with sidewalk terraces, cinemas and, of course, the studios of famous artists and writers of the past (and present!): not only Picasso but Gauguin, Modigliani, Max Jacob, Henry Miller and many more. You can virtually step into their lives by discovering their favorite neighbourhood.

And Montparnasse has not lost its flavour. Many studios and lofts are still occupied by working artists. You will meet them when you shop at the local street markets (not to be missed, Wednesday and Saturday mornings, just around the corner from the house) or in the local supermarket 60 yards from your front door. The house is in a very quiet, safe area. You will also be surrounded by friendly English-speaking neighbors who share our courtyard/garden.

Finally, your host will personally introduce you to his favorite inexpensive local restaurants, where you will be greeted as a friend. He will show you where to buy fresh warm croissants and bread for breakfast, and which streets provide the best shopping. The house is 200 yards from a guarded underground parking.

There is no better way to plunge into the life of Paris…as Parisians live it.

      Dream house in Paris

Left on 04/20/2013 for a stay in April 2013

We spent a week in Villa Picasso with our adult children, and all of us were delighted. It has all the attributes of a wonderful apartment - more like a home really - superb location, comfort, spaciousness, high ceilings, cleanliness, conveniences, and charm. But it also has a unique character that transports you back to historic Paris - you can imagine Simone de Beauvoir having tea with you in the kitchen, or Ravel playing on the grand piano. It also has what seems like the largest collection of excellent French and English books outside of any library. The magnificent picture window looking out on the Boulevard (pictured) is an experience in itself. Steve is a welcoming and gracious host, and his tips on what to do in Paris were superb. We hope to return!

      My New Home In France

Left on 04/09/2013 for a stay in April 2013

      Bonjour!
First and for most Stephen is an absolute gem. Everything he recommended was just as he described. By the end of our trip, I felt like old friends.
We had a group of 8 women on a mother daughter trip to France. The house was perfect! If anyone feels the kitchen needs updating, I say you don't know what old school charm is. The kitchen as well as all the other rooms were just as they were pictured on the site and just what we expected for a Villa from 1806.
I can not say enough about how wonderful the location was. We walked just about everywhere in 45 degrees. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.
When I go back with my husband and son, we will defiantly be staying with Stephen again.

      Great location, spacious but flawed

Left on 01/07/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We stayed here with a group of six, including two children.

Positives: location to Metro (and access to all of Paris), supermarkets (Monoprix), restaurants, historic cemetery and catacombs. It is a 10 minute walk to cinemas and a major department store, Galleries Lafayette. The living rooms downstairs are large and perfect for gatherings, relaxing under the light of the large windows and picking through the owner's book and recorded music collection. It has many nooks for children to explore and enjoy. It is a safe area.

Negatives: the kitchen needs renovating - stained tiles and grimy ceiling are a turn off; walls throughout need a paint job. The home has one bathroom and two toilets, so a large group needs good negotiation skills. The stairs to the second storey are slippery, take care. It is a personal home, so the personal effects may be a detraction for some.

      Ideal location and Great House

Left on 10/09/2012 for a stay in September 2012

What a wonderful house to begin our journey. 4 separate sleeping areas (3 doubles in separate bedrooms plus a double pull out sofa in one of the two living areas). This is a house really even though it is an apartment. Very spacious. Great living areas. Shared courtyard. A few metres to the metro lines that will get you anywhere you need to go.
We travelled with 3 children and they were mesmorised by all the wonderful things in Steve's house. He is great too, a person you would love to spend more time chatting to about his life in France. What else, free Wifi, 1 bathroom (upstairs) plus one extra toilet. Full kitchen with all condiments, we had a fruit platter and waters and so much left for us it was amazing.
Flying in from australia we all had the best nights sleep as all the beds were comfy and quiet. Steve was there to meet us and show us around. Would definitely stay here again if we ever get the chance. Neighbourhood was a very liveable area with lots of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Really close to small food store too.

Staying at Villa Paris Picasso made our trip to Paris special. The apartment is charming, spacious, very clean, comfortable, well-equipped, great location ... It was grea!. Steve was a delight to work with and went out of his way to assist with whatever he could. We were three couples and everyone on of us agree that staying at Villa Picasso was a very memorable part of our trip.

Great Parisian experience! Wonderful space for 6+ persons. Hig

Left on 09/05/2012 for a stay in August 2012

The apartment is very centrally located and the Raspail Metro stop is literally out the front door and a few steps to the left. From there, it is a quick Metro ride to all of Paris.

The house is in a lovely residential area of Montparnasse with plenty of cafes (check out Le Petit Broc and Le Jockey among others), restaurants (La Mere agitee, Fondue and Raclette on Raspail and Il Barone among others). There is a very nice smaller supermarket, Franprix, just one short blcok away and a laudromat if you need, although the apartment has a washer and dryer.

The apartment itself is lovely!. It is old, is beautifully furnished with antiques and artwork and it is spacious. The rooms are large with high ceilings so you will not be experiencing a $400 a night sterile hotel cubicle here. You and your party will be on two floors and there is a lovely courtyard in the middle of the surrounding buildings (the building across the courtyard to the left is where Picasso had his studio). Just open your shutters and enjoy the lovely Parisian evening breezes!

We particularly enjoyed having our breakfast every morning at the large table in the living room. There are numerous boulangeries in the neighborhood where you can pick up amazing baguettes, croissants, pan au chocolate and other freshly baked items.

Steve, the american owner, is a total groove; was extremely helpful and was there to meet us and give us the tour around the apartment to explain everything. When he is not living there, he is a short phone call away should any problems arise.

In short, our stay at Villa Picasso was " tres fantastique" and will always be in our memories of places that we have enjoyed the most. We will definitely want to stay there again!

      A happy experience

Left on 08/22/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We were a party of six spread out in four rooms/bedrooms in august 2012. Very nice and helpful american owner who is a longtime Paris resident. Nice neighborhoody (not touristy) location with lots of amenities and daily services nearby. Metro with 2-line access steps away from the front door. Lots of room to spread out.

2 queen-size beds, 1 fold-out queen-size couch, and one child's bed (we understand the child's bed is being replaced). Check with the owner. Other posted reviews provide a fair representation of the premises. Don't expect new furniture. Complete upstairs bathroom. Downstairs only a toilet in small w/c room. Well outfitted: WiFi, printer, electronics, television, books, Cd's, art.

Overall a relaxing somewhat funky pad that provides a good base of operations. A good value for a group of our size.

      Quirky Parisian experience

Left on 06/26/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Six friends, (2couples and 2 singles) stayed here in June 2012 for 4 nights. The apartment is light and large and full of objects d'art, books and plants. It had a very Parisian vibe. Brilliantly located for the Raspail metro (1 minute away) from where you can reach all areas of the city, local amenities (local supermarket, restaurants and market) and 10/15 minutes walk to Jardin de Luxembourg.
This is a lovely place to stay with a great deal of atmosphere but we found 1 bathroom a bit of a strain with 6 people sharing. The other bathroom is a downstairs toilet, not a bathroom. There is a basin in a small room next to the double bedroom upstairs but it is not en suite.
There are 2 double beds, a pull out sofa and a small child's bed, so for the 2 single adults in our party one adult had the child's bed which wasn't ideal. Storage for clothes doesn't seem to have been factored into the apartment, there isn't any, but we just lived out of the suitcases.
The living space is large, plenty of seating, and very atmospheric, surrounded by lovely things.
The kitchen is small but adequate, dishwasher works well and there is a large frig. Lots of supplies of everything, including condiments, spices etc. which you can use.
The market on Bvd Edgar Quinet on Saturday is well worth a visit.
The owner sends a comprehensive per visit info sheet which is very useful.
I would recommend this apartment but it would probably suit 2 couples better rather than 3 due to only having one bathroom and limited storage. However it is a truly French experience.

Return trip to Paris Villa Picasso was Perfect!!!

Left on 05/29/2012 for a stay in May 2012

This was my second trip to the Paris Villa Picasso in the past 18 months. It was just as wonderful this time. The house is a destination unto itself. It has all the amenities you could wish for, in addition to its charm, eclectic decor, and very spacious layout. The neighborhood is among my favorite in Paris and the ease of getting there and around the city with its vicinity steps from the Raspail metro make it a premier place to stay when in Paris. I really cannot say enough about how much my friends and I love this home. If you are considering going to Paris and you need space and want the true charm of Paris, Villa Picasso is a must stay.

Exactly what you picture a Paris Villa to be - great location

Left on 05/26/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Steve's place was exactly what we had envisioned for our 1st family trip to Europe. The location was ideal; metro station right outside the door, great restaurants within walking distance, lovely bakery down the street, small and large grocery stores within walking distance, Luxembourg Gardens 15 minutes away and the Seine 2.5 km. The Villa was exactly as pictured and our girls (aged, 12, 9 and 6) thought it was the one of the highlights of the trip.
We would highly recommend Steve's place and would love to stay there again.

Our party of 5 were very comfortable in this house, steps to the metro and great
restaurants. The house has been lived in and loved and it shows our host Steve was great with giving us information on local restuarants. Walking distance to Luxumbourg Gardens and if you like to walk 25 mins to Norte Dame. This was so much nicer than a tiny hotel room. In a residential district we went to the Montparnesse market on Saturday morning and lived like the locals as much as we
could. Thanks Steve we would love to return sometime soon.

      Amazing house...Amazing experience

Left on 10/03/2011 for a stay in September 2011

Amazing value for the price! This is a house in Paris...that in itself is an amazing find. Steve in incredibly helpful and the house offers an excess of charm and character. I stayed with my wife and our parents and the space and amenities made for a wonderful stay and lifetime memories. Relative to other options you get space, high ceilings, great beds, great rooms, a kitchen, huge windows to people watch from, steps to the metro, a wonderful neighborhood, proximity to a large grocery store near the base of the tower, proximity to street markets, great restaurants, proximity to the catacombs and Luxembourg gardens and observatory and entire left bank if you like to walk. The location was perfect. The space was perfect. We would stay again in a second and gladly recommend to others. The only caveats I would offer is do not wear socks on the wood stairs...they are wood stairs, and bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to street noise. Looking back at the pictures I can say that this was one of the very best places we have ever stayed while traveling. Some Paris recommendations: walk everywhere, try Patrick Roger chocolates (jasmine was amazing), and try the hot chocolate and citrus cake at the restaurant (not cafe) at the Musee de Orsay. A final thanks to Steve for making this wonderful house available...thank you.

Unique Paris rental in great location

Left on 09/03/2011 for a stay in August 2011

We had the pleasure of staying at the end of august. Steve met us to hand over the keys and to go over some of the unique qualities of the home. We enjoyed the large living spaces in the living/dining room and in the studio. The ceilings on the ground floor are high and the windows large, letting in lots of natural light. The kitchen is small and we did not use it to eat in, choosing to use the dining table at the front of the house instead. The house is situated on a main street and steps from the Metro. While the street was busy, the bedrooms are at the back of the house and we were not really bothered by the sound of traffic.

This is a unique property with lots of space. This is definitely a home and not a sterile rental property. It is lived in and not luxurious, but was very comfortable and perfect for our stay. Steve provides lots of helpful information and recommendations on restaurants, ice cream shops, food shopping (for stocking the fridge) and outdoor markets. We had one or two questions for Steve while we were there and he was always quick to respond. We did visit the organic market and the art market, each a few blocks away from the house and enjoyed them immensely. We plan to stay here again when we return to Paris. Thank you Steve.

This is like stepping into someone's home and is charming and full of personal collections.
Beds were extremely comfortable and we couldn't wait to get home each day and throw open the French doors in the dining room to look out onto Boulevard Raspail and watch the comings and goings.
Kitchen is not huge for large group and bit of a dust problem but apart from that
we had a ball and would recommend.
Make sure you go to the top of the Montparnasse building to see the sunset behind the Eiffel Tower. Better than going up the tower itself.
Great restaurants in the area too.

We loved our time at Villa Picasso, which seemed like a more genuine experience than a sterile hotel. Steve provided useful local information on restaurants, travel and the like. We didn't want for anything - the villa had everything we needed, and some things we didn't, like a grand piano! My seven year old enjoyed it, though.
Our least favourite experience was having to wait half an hour for Steve after a long day of travel, as he had forgotten we were arriving that day! The best thing was opening the fabulous windows at the front onto Bvd Raspail with a glass of champagne on Friday night.

      unmissable ambience, authenticity and location

Left on 09/17/2010 for a stay in September 2010

Villa Picasso proved to be the perfect choice for experiencing Paris with our family of five, although we weren't new to the city. There is a distinct atmosphere in Steve's artfully lived-in home, a uniquely Parisian vibe. His home is full of charm, personality and history transporting you back to the Montparnasse of the 1920's and '30s--an aura and depth rarely accessible for a tourist.

The immediate surroundings of the house offer an abundance of restaurants, and Steve will provide you with suggestions on the best of them. Several boulangeries and large supermarkets [2 Monoprix stores close by] will make your breakfasts and dinners delicious when you wish to stay in. There are street markets nearby, one of them is home to an organic farmers' market on Blvd Raspail each Sunday.
The two metro lines that stop right in front of the house will take you, without transfer, to a host of monuments and some major train stations. The Orlybus to ORY is also one metro stop or a five minute walk away, and so is the RER to CDG.

Villa Picasso itself is an experience on its own right, with its period features and Steve's immense collection of art and books. The huge loft window looking out on the street lend an inimitable ambience to the home, as do the bedrooms' windows opening onto a lush, private inner courtyard that is shared by the immediate neighbors. The Villa is equipped exacly as if someone was living there--this was one of our family's favourite aspects about the house. We found the beds really comfortable, the linens crisp and clean, the bath spotless and spacious. Upon arrival, Steve shows every detail you need to know, and he's always a phone call away should you need help during your stay.

Our family had an incredible stay, and can only recommend Villa Picasso to anyone in search of authenticity, history, charm, ample space, flexibility and freedom in experiencing the authentic Parisian way of life.

      Don't miss this perfect home!

Left on 09/14/2010 for a stay in September 2010

My friends and I stayed here in September 2010 after finding on Trip advisor. We were nervous about booking because of the limited number of reviews at that time, but let me put your mind at ease...I've been to Paris four times and this is the best accomodation in Paris. Steve, the owner, is an extremely accomodating and helpful host. He greeted us at the house after our red-eye flight from PHL in the am with fresh fruit, a tour of the house, and helpful recommendations for neighborhood restaurants and events. He was available to us the entire time we were there, and kept in great contact with us prior to our arrival.

From the moment you step foot in this amazingly decorated, spotlessly clean home you'll be glad you came. The house is filled with beautiful art and hundreds of books (French and English), and music lovers will appreciate the vast collection of CDs of all genres to enjoy. (And if you happen to play the piano you'll be right at home with the 19th c. concert baby grand -- in fantastic condition...just bring your own music!) Though the house has wi-fi, a TV and a gaming system, we never had use for them. Sitting in the artist's studio with the big windows open on the street, watching the people go by was far more entertaining. (Besides, who comes to Paris to watch TV?)

The beds are the most comfortable I've slept in while in Europe. The bathroom was incredibly spacious and came complete with soap and a hair dryer (thank goodness...one less thing to pack!).

The house is only a few steps from the Raspail metro stop making it terrific location. You can easily be at Notre Dame in ten minutes, Monmartre in about 20. The neighborhood is friendly, safe, and filled with shops, cafes, and a terrific open-air market on Saturdays and Wednesdays (not to be missed!).

You simply can not miss this home if you're looking for rental accomodations while in Paris.

If you want to immerse yourself in Paris...

Left on 09/14/2010 for a stay in September 2010

My three girlfriends and I just returned from a long weekend in Paris. It sounds decadent, but with the affordability of the Paris Villa Picasso, it was completely doable. Two of the girls had never been to Paris, and we said repeatedly, there is no better way to do it than at this residence. It is quirky, eclectic, a bibliofile's dream and absolutely perfect to immerse yourself in Parisienne culture. I have backpacked to 56 countries, and stayed at hundreds of establishments, this by far is among my top 5.

We spent each night sitting at a 6x10 street level window looking out enjoying cheese from the Maitre Frommage around the corner and champagne, fruit and wine from the local shops. Having the metro merely steps from the front door, all of Paris was immediately accessible if you wanted to leave this wonderful neighborhood. The Open Tour Bus also picks you up right across the street, if you wanted to ride around the city and see all the sights, particularly if you are limited on time.

Saturday morning was spent navigating the street markets that were about 2 blocks away...and the food. A foodies dream footsteps away. Across the street and down the road a bit is La Mere agitee...she is fabulous. Ask her if she has room, sit down, she decides the menu each day, you eat what she brings you, including wine for 30 euro each!!! Perfection.

This is not a luxorious palace, but it is a roomy, wonderful residence, accessible to all of Paris, big enough for up to 7 to stay and enjoy the beauty and magnificence of one of the world's most spectacular cities. The owner Steve is cool and responsive (I blew a circuit our first morning he was there within a half) He greeted us with fruit, cheese and wine...does it really get any better than this?

      Comfortable, convienent and good value

Left on 09/06/2010 for a stay in August 2010

We stayed here in august 2010 and were very satisifed. Steve's house is conviently located right next to a Metro station with a market, bakery, laundry, good restaurants and other shopping very close. It's a couple of blocks from Montparnesse Tower (must see...best view of Paris). It was easy to be in and out of the house and about town with the great location. The house is not luxorious, but it is indeed pleasant and homey with plenty of room and comfortable beds. Steve was a great host, meeting us on arrival and respectful of our privacy when he needed to get into the house while we were there. I recommend this rental.

      Extremely convenient location!

Left on 08/15/2010 for a stay in August 2010

I stayed here with 4 other people and absolutely loved it! The property is actually adjacent to the Raspail metro stop, and this fact earned me praise from my travel mates for finding this rental after each day of touring the city's many sights and getting back with ease. There are numerous restaurants nearby as well.
There are also no transfers to get to this property from Charles-de-Gaulle airport! The RER line from the airport takes you to Denfert-Rochereau station, and you can walk a block north from there with your bags easily! That was a pleasant surprise for me! Check it out on google maps!
The apartment is also very spacious, making it incredibly comfortable for 5 people. The home was just as described by Steve. We all thought it was very quaint, and my friends said it was a perfect pick with a Paris feel! He was there for our arrival to greet us and show us his home, and even left us fresh fruit to eat! We all agreed Steve was very accommodating and kind.
The wireless internet was very fast and did not fail once. In one of the upstairs bedrooms, I noticed there was a new video game console that I imagine a teen would have fun with.
After the heat that we've been experiencing this summer of 2010 in DC and the rest of the eastern U.S., I was a little worried about the fact that I couldn't find any listing with air conditioning on Trip advisor. Well, I can now tell you, don't worry about it! It's a different climate here. It felt cool like Maine does in the summer. In fact, I just checked something. Paris is near the 49th degree parallel, which is north of Maine. This is also the line that divides the United States from Canada. So I guess that is why it is so refreshing in Paris. Bring a light jacket!
In summation, we enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely recommend this vacation rental to any group looking for space and an excellent location that is steps from the metro!
