Sandwich, United KingdomA memorable, adorable 'Rachel Khoo' Paris apartment!
Left on 03/20/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We have just returned from a wonderful five days in Paris. The apartment was perfect for the two of us. Very quirky and 'Rachel Khoo' - being creative types we loved the attention to detail. Tracy & Didier were very organised and friendly and met us late at night to let us in when our flight was delayed which was much appreciated. The apartment was very clean and well equipped without being cluttered. A little bath in Paris was a luxury! The location is very quirky - the fashion district - dead in the evening and the weekend but bustling on a week day. Supermarkets both fancy and basic are within 5 min walk, you're right next door to the post office and there's a great bakery to the left of St ambroise across the street. We loved being a ten minute walk from La Marais and used the Batobus from Hotel de Ville to zip up and down the seine. We are planning our next stay already. We really Reccomend this beautiful apartment if you want your own kitchen etc and to feel like a local for a few days.

Left on 02/09/2013 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed for 4 nights in July 2012. Booking the apartment was very easy - Tracy was really helpful and gave us suggestions for the best way to get to the apartment.
We were met by one of his staff upon our arrival and given a tour of the apartment. The apartment is well laid out. The kitchen was well supplied and was perfect for our needs. The bed was comfortable.
We spent our days and nights on the go in Paris and the location was perfect for accessing the Metro or heading out on foot.
The dining room set in front of the window was perfect for early breakfasts or a late supper.
The living room chairs are not too comfortable but we were always on the go and didn't spend time sitting around. It would be nice to have some some storage to unpack clothes from suitcases.
Overall we would definitely stay here again. This rental is best for those on the go who want an affordable, cozy and clean place to stay. Thanks! -

Left on 02/08/2013 for a stay in November 2012
We stayed in this appartment for 5 nights. It was a very good choice: easy to get anywhere in Paris from there, cozy neighborhood with tons of restaurants and bars. The appartment was small but confortable for 2 persons, with all the stuff needed to cook and cable tv. Great Choice for a small stay, the owner is not only trustable but also very welcoming. Highly recomended.

I loved staying in the well-organized, elegant pied-a-terre in the 11th. The windows look out on a classic city view--Paris rooftops & traditional buildings. I was within walking distance to my favourite cafe & weekly market off Bastille, and three minutes from a convenient metro stop. The apartment was quiet, extremely clean, and well-appointed for cooking & living.

Garden Grove, CaliforniaWonderful little place - would stay here again.
Left on 10/25/2012 for a stay in October 2012
I stayed here with my boyfriend for 9 nights in early October 2012. The apartment looks great and comes fully stocked with towels, cooking utensils, spices, soap, we didn't need anything extra. The bed was comfortable and warm. There was hot water every morning and night. I have absolutely no complaints about this place.
The area was quiet at night, but could get loud very early in the morning as people arrived for work - just be sure to keep your windows closed and you'll barely hear a thing. There are nearby supermarkets as well as a Thursday/Sunday farmer's market to get some great food. There's also restaurants and plenty of stores in the area. It's only about a 20 to 30 minute walk to get to Notre Dame and the Latin Quarter. It's also close to a metro stop.
Tracey and Didier were very helpful, polite, understanding and flexible. My phone wouldn't work in a foreign country, but you can use the apartment phone for free. I used my ipad and free wifi to email them as needed. They were more than helpful in arranging a 4:30 am taxi to take us to the airport. - which i am very thankful for.
Be aware that it is 4 flights up with no elevator. We didn't mind, but some people might not like that extra bit of exercise. Tall people be aware that the bed is around 6' long - again not a problem for my boyfriend and I.
This was my first time getting a vacation rental. Everything went smoothly and this was a wonderful experience. I've paid more for hotels in Europe that came with a lot less. This is a wonderful place to stay at. -

Left on 09/26/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We have just spent 2 weeks here and we can thoroughly recommend this apartment. We were met there by Didier and he gallantly carried my case up the 4 flights of stairs to the apartment. He had a bottle of red wine as a welcome and being aussies this really impressed! The apartment had a good "feel" to it. It has all the cooking utesils you require (crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, etc) and even basics like olive oil, salt and pepper and even some spices. It is in the Bastille area and close to 2 or 3 Metros. We would recommend this apartment without hesitation.

Left on 09/20/2012 for a stay in June 2012
A fantastic apartment , that gave us a beautiful little taste of Paris. Kitchen was well stocked and we even got a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. The area is busy during the day, with all the wholesale traders but really peaceful at night. Everything within walking distance- supermarket, bakeries, pharmacies and even a choice of metro stations.
The bathroom had one of those showers over the tub and was a bit of a squeeze. Also there was not much ventilation in the bathroom, so it did smell a bit.
Didier met us on arrival , as planned and gave us all the info regarding free wifi , keys etc etc. -

We had a great time staying here. The apartment is wonderfully quirky, and although small it had everything we needed. It was also close to the amazing Bastille market full of delicious food, a supermarket, bakeries, metro and lots to see and do within walking distance. So much nicer than staying in a hotel.

Left on 07/09/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I booked this apartment for a short stay with my boyfriend because on paper the apartment looked perfect - and it didn't disappoint! I genuinely couldn't believe that for that price we had such a well furnished and stylish apartment with all the facilities you need (kitchen especially well stocked). On top of all of that, the area is great. 2 pharmacies close by, a supermarket round the corner, a road with two Vélib stations, a metro, a bakers and several cafes/bars. Great view, quiet area, and you quickly get used to the 4 flights of stairs!

We really loved this place - it has character and a great view out over the French rooftops. Although a little out of the main tourist areas it is a short walk to the Marais and beyond. Great value and great service.

Kern River Valley, CANice apartment, Great Location
Left on 04/04/2012 for a stay in March 2012
This is a great apartment. First, it is exactly as it looks in the photos – what you see is what you will get. It is tastefully furnished, comfortable and very clean. The kitchen is well equipped, everything we needed was there. It is in a great location – nearby are bakeries, restaurants, grocery stores, the Metro. If you like to walk, the apartment is within walking distance of Pere Lachaise cemetery in one direction and Notre Dame in the other. One of the great benefits of this apartment is that it is very quiet at night! It is in the wholesale fashion district, so although the area is busy during the day, there is really nothing happening there at night. Finally, our hosts were wonderful – they met us at the apartment just as planned, answered emails promptly and even were so helpful as to arrange a taxi for us when we left. We would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone planning a stay in Paris. It was just as we expected, and we were very happy with our stay.

We loved our stay. Tracy is a terrific host, helpful yet unobtrusive, and the flat is very charming and really comfortable. Very good location, close to the Metro and also very walkable to the heart of the Marais and beyond. Look for the fantastic market days on Blvd. Richard-Lenoir, a 5-minute walk. We will return!

MelbourneLovely cosy apartment in great location
Left on 01/31/2012 for a stay in January 2012
This was our third time in 4 years staying at this apartment, which we think says it all. Great location close to Metro and 200m to No.69 bus which takes you via The Marais, Louvre & D'Orsay and finishes at the Eiffel Tower. Very clean apartment with free wi-fi and a well equipped kitchen complemented by great bakeries & supermarkets very nearby, as well as a market every Thurs & Sun mornings. Lots of bars, restaurants & shops in the area - very vibrant. Excellent communication with Tracy the owner, who was always accommodating with our varying arrival times (one year we arrived at 8am and this year we were delayed & arrived late in the evening). But we were always met at the apartment with a big welcome and a bottle of red! Can't speak highly enough of this cosy comfortable apartment and have recommended it to friends.

We've stayed in this apartment twice; the first time for one month, the second time for two weeks. Dealing with Tracy and Didier is an absolute pleasure, the apartment is beautiful, and the location ideal. It's the perfect size for two people, and we have since recommended it to about 7 or 8 couples, all of whom have had wonderful stays there.

Sydney is home, London for 12 monthsParis long weekend, to meet old friends.
Left on 12/20/2011 for a stay in December 2011
The apartment was very good for the price, just the right size for a couple with plenty of storage for a week or so. About a 7 minute walk from the metro station which is on a line direct to Gare du Nord where we arrived on the Eurostar from London. The Bastille art market on Saturday was interesting, and the food market on the Sunday was great. We wished we were staying longer just so we could have bought some fresh produce. Plenty of local cafes and restaurants, health food shop and small clothin shops in the area. Easy to get all over paris via the metro. Only minor drawback is the 4 flights of stairs, but then if you are only going out and coming back once a day, they are not a problem. The small lounge chair is not comfortable to sit on, but then we were out all day and much of the night and rarely used it.

Left on 12/20/2011 for a stay in September 2011
Absolutely loved this apartment! Perfect size for two - cute and cozy with a lovely view. Location is close to several different Metro stops, there are lots of bakeries, grocery stores, etc. to stock up the kitchen, and you are within walking distance of some fantastic shopping in the Marais neighborhood. Communication with owners was very easy - all information and instructions were very clear and detailed, and the price was great! We had such a great experience I'm not sure we will ever stay in a hotel again! Just note that it is a 4th floor walkup, so remember that when packing your suitcase because you will have to haul it up the stairs! :-)

Left on 11/16/2011 for a stay in November 2011
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week, and I can't rate the apartment highly enough. It is beautifully presented and furnished, and has everything you could need. The layout makes the kitchen feel quite separate, and the whole place is spacious and airy. Perfectly located for both the Bastille and Marais, and there's even a great boulangerie on the same street, with a supermarket and wine/cheese shop just around the corner. Excellent, friendly service from the owners. Perfect.

Wellington, New ZealandCute, comfortable and good value for money ...
Left on 05/19/2011 for a stay in July 2010
Well, Parisian apartments are small, there's no getting around it! But this place has all the interior charm of a romantic little pad ... well laid out, with very pleasant decor and some obvious interior attention paid to detail in the bathroom and kitchen.
Bed was a pull-out sofa arrangement (which I understand is very common in small apartments) with big cushions and although the apartment building itself is getting a bit old and tired the aprtment itself has a very comfortable feel to it and not at all shabby.
This place is not designed for views but the full length opening windows onto the street are a great feature and I was more than happy coming home after a hard day's sightseeing to open them up, mooch around and plan for the next day!
The general area might look a little suspect but once you realise this is where a lot of the non-label clothing wholesalers have their trade outlets the reason for lots of minivans parked on the street and people busily wheeling covered racks (of clothes it turns out) up and down the street become apparent. Usually everything has been closed up by about 4.30pm and the area becomes much quieter and serene after that.
I had no problems on the street and found it generally safe around the area (e.g. to walk home after dinner) although I wouldn't choose to linger around at night unneccessarily. The general feeling of the area is a no-nonsense trade and wholesale centre.
The apartment was relatively handy to metro stations but usually I would just walk down to the Bastille and decide where to go from there. Was within walkable distance (for me) to the Seine and all its attractions and did a number of impromptu afternoon walking trips to the islands to enjoy the late evening sun etc. Nearby food and craft markets near the Bastille (on a Sunday I think) were a fascinating experience.
There are some great (and very authentic feeling) Paris coffee bars in the area - perfect for an espresso or two in the morning on your way out. Again, business-like but very quick and easy and just what I need usually to get going. Also a basic superette up the road, and is in relatively close walking distance to vintage clothing shopping and general cafe bohemia in some of the streets bordering on the Bastille.
I was there in July which in 2010 was very hot - there's not much you can do about it! So if you prefer more temperate weather and want to avoid the heat in your apartment (temperatures do not drop much during the evening) plan for June or possibly September or later. If heat really bothers you, you should investigate something with air con rather than just a fan.
So, in summary, a good value and fairly well-located apartment for a single or couple with everything you need for resting up prior to planning your next day's adventures . It was clean, comfortable and nicely appointed but not in the luxury category so if I was honeymooning or want that special weekend away I would probably plum for something more expensive and therefore probably in a more romantic location.Response from Tracy Darin - 06/08/2011
Owner
Thank you Simon for taking time to write your detailed review and for the 5 star rating! I'm pleased with your comments about the apt. however I would like to add some updates on a few points. Since your stay one year ago, quite a few changes have been made. The bed is no longer a pull out sofa but a full size bed and we've added and replaced some furniture. All the outside building façades have been recently renovated and we are currently in the process of interieur renovation of the public areas including the lobby, stairwell, halls and floors which were in desperate need of repair. The neighborhood is changing as well, there are now three large supermarkets within several minutes. The City of Paris has started a complete make-over project of the Quartier Ilot Bréguet (see web site):
http://www.mairie11.paris.fr/mairie11/documentid=17227&id_attribute=127
which will include a public park and recreational facility as well as rehabilitation of several large city buildings and La Poste. One further point, air-conditioning is really rare in Paris. Basically in private apts. it doesn't exist. If you were hot in July, you were lucky to have nice weather, summers in Paris can often be rainy and chilly!;)
Thanks again!
