      Highly Recommend

Left on 01/10/2013 for a stay in December 2012

Tranquil setting and spacious accommodations. We rented flat number 2 a one bedroom on the second floor. The first thing you notice about this property is the feeling of being secure behind a locked gate. Not just anyone can gain access to the property. The courtyard is stunning with a Koi pond and lovely landscaping. Remove your shoes on entering the house proper and leave them in cubby holes at the base of the stairs. It is a winding staircase to reach the upper floors but one studio is on the main floor. Great attention to detail for the traveler. Our flat had a spacious well stocked kitchen and a large bedroom by Paris standards. The toilet is in a different room from the shower/tub so that helps if a family is staying in this flat. The couch makes out in to a bed so a family of 3 or 4 could stay with enough elbow room. A washer/dryer combo is in the same room as the toilet. A drying rack is provided as well. We did our wash after dinner and let clothes air dry over night. It really cuts down on the amount clothing you need to pack when you have easy access to a washing machine. Cnn and BBC channels available on the TV if you want to keep up with news in the USa or Great Britain.

There is always someone on property if you need assistance. Out the main entry and a few steps to your left there is a well stocked modern grocery store. We stocked up on the basics and it really helped stretch the food budget. There is a pharmacy a few doors down from the grocery store. Across a side street from the pharmacy is the most charming bakery. We tried a new treat every day. Fresh bread each day for around a $1.30. Yellow mail box across the street for mailing postcards. Taxi stand up the street and a bus stop. Metro station a short walk.

The only down side was we had a trouble with a week internet signal.

      The perfect spot

Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in October 2012

This is our fourth stay at Maison Zen and I really hope it will not be our last. The place is immaculate, stylish, comfortable, and in a fabulous location.
I only hesitate in writing a glowing review because I hate for the word to get out about what a phenomenal place to stay this is. You will be surrounded with original art and soothing colors. There's a complete supermarket right next door, and you will be between two metro stops.
I don't think this is the cheapest place to stay in Paris, but I'm not tempted to look elsewhere.
There is a beautiful garden, often populated with a pair of friendly dogs. This all adds up to the coziness of the place. Enjoy your stay - you will not be sorry.

Beautiful, quiet apartment in the heart of Paris.

Left on 08/29/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Maison Zen is a true find. Beautifully furnished, with a fully equipped kitchen, it lets you take advantage of the nearby farmer's market on Place Bastille. Also within walking distance, are such Paris landmarks as "Le Train Blue" at the Lyon railroad station, a remarkably decorated restaurant from 1901; and the similar "Le Bofinger" serving alsatian food. Bring your camera when have dinner there. Add the attentive service of Grazyna Perl and her staff, the reasonable price, and you have an unbeatable place to spend a week (or more) in Paris. And don't forget to take a stroll on the beautiful "Promenade Plantee" just steps away.

      A home away from home

Left on 08/13/2012 for a stay in July 2012

My family and I enjoyed our 1 week stay at Maison Zen. Madame Perl met us on arrival, made us feel very welcome and went out of her way to ensure that we had all we needed.

The flat (number 2) was clean, tastefully decorated and well-equipped. There were lots of personal touches that created a very homely feel. The Maison as a whole is a charming and very secure environment.

There are restaurants and food stores on the same block and it is an easy walk to the two nearest Metro stations. We found it to be an excellent base from which to explore Paris.

      Disappointing

Left on 06/28/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We stayed with Ms. Perl on June 20 to the 24th. We were assured repeatedly that rooms would have airconditioning and this is why we agreed to the atrocious price for the two studios. the whole time we were there M. Perl did not provide aC but on the 2nd day gave my sister a portable aC that was so noisy, she couldn't sleep. We came out of that place full of bites, either from mosquitoes coz we had to sleep with the windows open or from bugs that roamed the place as soon as the lights were turned off. I called Ms. Perl 3 different times to ask for help with the phone and cable and not in one instance did she respond. When we arrived, we were given a folder with instructions on how to reach Ms. Perl but nothing about the Paris area and we were first time visitors. Neither were we given help on how to navigate the surrounding area of where the buses are and on that one time she brought the portable aircon, my siter asked her how we could get to Versailles and she made us walk all the way from the apt. to the train station being aware that I had to use a wheelchair since walking far was difficult for me instead of just steering us towards a taxi or a bus that goes to the station. Not once during our stay did Ms. Perl ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. She just said on her folder to call her but she never responded in the three instances I and my family needed help.
To stay at Maisonzen, you need to be an expert on Paris and the public transportations or have your own private car
as it would feel you landed in an alien place, there was nobody to ask for help. The price was absolutely thru the sky - 1240Euros for 4days stay in an unairconditioned room when our reservation said the rooms were airconditioned. Ms. Perl did not make an adjustment on the price for the lack of an aC. The tub is also so high it is like going over a hill just to be able to take a shower. Back home we are still wearing the red bug bites on our legs and arms and faces.

      Hello,
I'm very sorry for your bad experience. I see that there was much misunderstanding. The truth is that I run the place alone (I have one cleaning lady) and as it is not a hotel, but a furnished studios, and I have other occupations, I'm not available to help 24 hours a day.
I didn't realize that it was so bad for you and I really am sorry that you didn't have better experience. Sending you kind regards, Grazyna Perl

The location couldn't be better. There is easy access to several metro stations and to 2 railway stations. There is now a super market just next door and there are a lot of restaurants in the area. We particularly like the calm of the apartment although it is just steps away from the bustle of rue de Lyon. The owner Mrs. Perl is always friendly and ready to help and thus we have been renting with her every year for more than a decade.

Peaceful, comfortable, lovely decor and a great location

Left on 04/02/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Maisonzen is located in a great area of Paris really close to Gare de Lyon, and the no:1 Metro line which takes you to some of the most famous sights in the city. Maisonzen is not a hotel, nor is it a B&B.; We had a small but comfortable and sunny studio apartment, perfect for 2 people, that was artfully decorated and nicely furnished with everything you might need. There is a good supermarket next door for everything else. The courtyard was peaceful and sunny and completely free from the noise of the bustling traffic outside. The owner was around if we needed her, but otherwise we were left in peace and privacy. On our last day, we had a very late night flight out of Paris, and while we couldn't stay in our room because new guests had arrived, she gave us access to another sitting room and bathroom, so we could store our luggage and freshen up before leaving. I can't think of anything I didn't like, and I would definitely stay there again.

everything about Maison Zen worked so well for our party of 9, including 2 babies. We had 3 different apartments, all well appointed and very homey. The location is so convenient in every way. It is a short walk to Gard de Lyon and Bastille, a couple of Metro stations and a leisurely stroll to the Marais. There is a small supermarket next door and low-key cafes and restaurants on every corner. Mme Pearl was very gracious and accommodating and reflects her establishment - the moment you step through the street door, a peace descends and the calm of Maison Zen settles on you.
