The breath taking views and the sunsets make this a unique setting and accommodation. This mountain top retreat is an extension of your journey that takes you into the New Zealand native bush. You will look upon the Firth of Thames sea while joining to the rain forests and mountain ranges. Ideally situated as a base from which to explore the extensive history the property provides including trekking trails that lead to the historic gold mining caves of the 1880’s and our own Nightingale Falls waterfall.

Facilities:

Twinkingham Cottage features exquisite views from the comfort of your living room, whether warmed beside the wood fire or soaking in the warmth of the summer sun. The master bedroom has luxurious bedding and sea views, along with a second bedroom with single bunks and a pull out bed. Nightingale Falls Farmstay Retreat is a unique property situated on 45 hectares of bush and pasture overlooking the Firth of Thames in the hills of Tararu Bay.
We blend both nature and farming together to produce not only a better food product but a balance of spiritual restoration as well.
From the very start of your retreat you feel the experience of adventure as drive up into the hills to the accommodation that awaits you.
As you climb the hills you voyage through the farms various animals, most which are free to roam grazing and doing as they please. The horses, sheep, cows and pigs gain a variety of flora which keep them healthy and require little intervention.
Upon arrival experience the Twinkingham Cottage or maybe stay in Shantilly Cottage as you sip drinks from the extensive decking that overlooks the native bush and water views.
Share in the farm chores. Try your hand at feeding out each morning to the grazing cattle or milking the house goat. Learn how to care for the Shire horse or mingle with the smaller ponies.Take a hike to Nightingale Falls or the mining caves.

Location

Nightingale Farmstay Retreat is truly off the beaten track. Located just outside of Thames in Tararu Bay, you travel up the middle of a gently sloping valley that meanders along a riverbed. It is a five kilometre journey along the gravel or metal road until you come all the way to the very end and can truly go no further. Then you have reached the large blue gate and the beginning of your adventure. Your hosts will meet you at the entrance to welcome you. If you have a four wheel drive you will be escorted to your accommodation. If not Nightingale Falls has a free shuttle for your convenience. Off the beaten track, yet only 15 minutes from Thames. Free and secure parking.

  Booked to stay in this fabulous venue for 2 nights and stayed 4. I would probably would still be there now if not for the demands of a return flight.
  
  Gorgeous views in a tranquil setting. Warm and accommodating hosts, friendly animals and a country setting most of us only dream about.
  
  Cottages are beautifully appointed, tons of hot water, fluffy towels and comfortable beds. If you wish to cook for yourself the enchanting Twickinham cottage has a full kitchen. Both units have ensuites and facility to make tea and coffee. They both boast outstanding views of the hills and the Bay.
  
  Terrific value for money! Would do it again in a heartbeat.
