Manassas, VAUpscale, clean, beautiful house w/every vacation amentity you wa
Left on 08/21/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The Shale Beach house exceeded all our expectations for our week rental in august. The pics are all accurate, but the house really seems even better in person. Very clean, very new, very pretty, lots of space, plenty of upscale touches.
Dealing w/property owners was very easy. Phillip & Colleen were quick to respond as we sought info, reserved the house, got check-in details, etc..
The Shale Beach house truly has something for whatever mood you're in... Sit on 2nd floor balcony listening to outdoor speakers while enjoying view of the Bay. Walk across street & comb shale beach for fossils, or go into the water. Grill on back patio. Play foosball upstairs. Sit in chairs around firepit listening to creek running alongside the property. Hottub. Watch kids play on the huge playground set. Take a walk on Georgian Trail (right behind the house). Bike ride into Collingwood on Georgian Trail. Drive 10 minutes into Collingwood. Drive 5 minutes to Blue Mtn resort. Cave at Metcalf Crevice 15 minutes away. Be a couch potatoe watching the flat screens, using the ceiling speaker sysytem. Curl up w/good book in any of the numerous places throughout the 3000 sq feet over 3 floors. Plenty of great stuff!
The 3rd floor was massive & great for our kids, with a huge BR, activity area w/table, & separate area for sleep sofa/tv/foosball. My 8 year old son liked to sleep with window open facing backyard where creek runs, to hear it at night.
All the bathrooms were very nice, but the 2nd floor Master Br's bathroom was particularly luxurious. Master Bath's huge tub w/jacuzzi bubbles was great. The tile in all bathrooms was gorgeous.
Compared to other newer, waterfront cottage rentals on Georgian Bay & Grey-Bruce area, the Shale Beach house was really a great value. Thanks for opening your house to us! -

Great location with plenty to do for kids of all ages. The house is very well kept, kitchen is well equipped. The bedrooms were comfortable and roomy. Two Tv's, great sound system with outdoor speakers for lounging by the fire pit or eating dinner on the deck. Our young children love the play structure in the back yard, perfect for lunchtime picnics. We had three families together in the house and had enough room (with a living area on each floor) for personal space when needed. The property comes equipped with a canoe and a kyak, life jackets, mountain bikes and helmets, all you need to enjoy the water and the trails. A short drive to Collingwood with all the ameneties you could want. The beach at Wasaga (35 minutes away) is beautiful. There is plenty to explore at the Blue Mountain resort just 5 minutes away (caves, roller coaster, water park). Not enough time in a one week visit to do everything. Owners are easy to contact, helpful and organized. An excellent choice, would not hesitate to come back.

Ottawa, CanadaExceptional Quality for an Extended Family
Left on 08/17/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Our son found the Shale Beach House on line and recommended that we share this location for our week long vacation. Our group consisted of grandparents, childern and grandchildren (three families, six adults and four children ages 20 months to 6 years). There was lots of space for play and relaxation even on rainy days.
The Shale Beach House is everything the description outlines with high quality standards throughout. The owner (Philip) who we dealt with was excellent and Joe the Caretaker was very friendly and on our arrival went over every detail of the accommodation.
Although the yard lacks any grassy area there is ample room for childern to play on a great swing set and wooden play house while the adults can relax either on the stone patio or in the hot tub and at night enjoy the feel of a camp fire by the on site fire pit.
Across the road is access to Georgian Bay and although not sandy is a fine place to sit and enjoy the water or to canoe / kayak (provided) and sandy beaches are only a few kilometers away. The Trans Canada Trail is also close and easy access for biking (several sizes of bikes are available) or hiking. -

We were delighted to spend our family gathering this Christmas at Shale Beach House. Not only is it an exceptionally comfortable, spacious, and beautiful home, with everything of the highest quality, in addition, our communication with the owners made everything fall into place with the utmost ease. We felt pampered to be in such beautiful surroundings. It is our pleasure to recommend it to others.

Girls weekend away

Left on 12/03/2011 for a stay in November 2011
The Shale Beach House was perfect for our annual "girls getaway" weekend. The house was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The bedrooms were really nice, as was the kitchen and the bathrooms. The walking trail right at the back of the property was great and we enjoyed a long hike into Collingwood. We also enjoyed the hot tub after a day of hiking. The owners made sure to give me all of the information that I needed and made the rental process very smooth. The only negative I could comment on is the proximity to the highway which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars for location.

As soon as we entered the house, we felt at home. It's very clean and spacious, with a great kitchen. There's a nice running trail behind the house that takes you right to the Village. If we head back to Blue Mountain, we hope to stay here again.

Left on 10/27/2011 for a stay in July 2011
My husband, myself and our 2 young children spent a week at the Shale beach house and my parents and brother and wife came up for 2 nights. The location of the house is handy for everything - Blue Mountain, the Beach, the town and has so many amenities you hardly need to leave - it truly is a 5 star house in size, decor and offerings. The layout of the house was perfect as the children loved their private top floor retreat, my husband and I could escape to the second floor to "keep an eye on the kids, honest" and leave our extended family to their noise on the main floor. We would love to come back for a long weekend soon!

Left on 10/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Our stay at the Shale Beach House was absolutely fantastic! This cottage is situated across from Craigleith's Shale Beach and the view is spectacular especially at sunset. The property is beautifully landscaped, well maintained with gorgeous greenery everywhere. A river/stream runs through the property and provides a tranquil setting when outside enjoying the backyard patio, jungle gym and hot tub. The cottage itself is very spacious with enough room for everyone. Its tasteful decor, furniture and state of the art appliances and location make this an excellent place to stay with family. The management team were very attentive of our needs from beginning to end. We will definetly be visiting again next year!

Richmond Hill, ONThe best stay of the year
Left on 10/22/2011 for a stay in September 2011
I had a fantastic time during my stay at the Shale Beach House last September.
This place is absolutely great. There is plenty of space to accommodate at least 10 people thanks to the five bedrooms available. However, more can be accommodated if necessary by using the large living room.
The kitchen has all the appliances you need and not only they are stainless steel but they are also spotless. The three washrooms are so clean that would please even the most "picky" person.
The patio in the back offers a great view and also the privacy you would expect/need. The beach is just across the street which means that it takes you literally a few seconds to get there.
Overall I had a great experience and I was very pleased with the choice I made by picking this house for my stay.

The house was exactly how it was described. Every convenience had been thought of. My daughter was getting married from here, and all the wedding party said what a relaxing place it was, and lovely surroundings to take photos.
Thanks again to Phillip and Colleen, all arrangements went smoothly and thanks for sharing your lovely property in great setting.
I will definitely recommend Shale Beach House to anyone vacationing in the Collingwood area.
I hope to come back as well, and this time get some golf in. -

What a great place, well appointed with comfortable furnishings, a well stocked professional kitchen, beautiful bedrooms/bathrooms, enough room for all of us to stretch out and relax. I could not have asked for more. The location was easy to find and many things to do when there, including the park/lake across the street and walking paths. A short drive into town. You can tell the owners take great pride in this property, as it shows in every area. I will be sure to book the Shale Beach house for my next trip into the Collingwood area. Thanks Phillip/Colleen we all truly felt like we where at home.

AuroraFirst class vacation rental
Left on 10/21/2011 for a stay in October 2011
I found the property online & contacted the owner. Philip was polite, courteous and explained in detail the terms of rental. We had occasion to contact the property manager regarding incidental enquiries & found him to be attentive & prompt in replying to our queries. The service prior & subsequent to booking was professional and commendable. In-house information is comprehensive & highlights ways to improve your enjoyment of the property and the beauty of the surrounding areas. Upon starting our vacation with extended family the house catered to almost every need. The house really was immaculate & fixtures and fittings were tastefully and generously appointed. Each of the three main bedrooms room has a distinct decorative style and offers varying views, all pleasant, from shore front to forest and trails. The rooms are beautifully appointed with superior workmanship evident both in the trim and tile work, flooring and the choice of dressings. There is ample storage space throughout the house and this also extends to the bedrooms. The kitchen and dining areas are very well equipped and family meals for 10 or more are no issue. The house also has a well sculpted and well thought-out outside area with hot-tub and large barbeque and eating area. The childrens extensive play area within eyesight of these areas again is testament to the thoughtful planning given to the design of this property.
The property is also equipped with a kayak, canoe and 5 bikes and a beach pass which are avilable for use. The house also has a wii systems for the kids and wireless internet. The two living areas are equipped with Blu Ray players and good quality Tv's for those rainy days and nights.
Despite the fact it rained for 6 of our eight days here, overall the superior comfort of Shale Beach House, the atmosphere of luxury and quality along with the flow of the rooms and communal areas definitely deserves your consideration and my recommendation as a first class family vacation rental.Response from Philip and Colleen Madonia - 10/21/2011

It was certainly unfortunate that after the fantastic weather of the Thanksgiving weekend, you encountered so much rain. Hopefully your next visit will bring better weather. So glad you enjoyed the place.
